I wanted to try this little local place for quite a while. I've always liked the cute little fat boy on the sign. We came here for lunch, and seem to leave the crowd. When we left there were quite a few people that have come in after us. There's not a whole lot to the place. It looks like it used to be an old Taco Bell or something. The color scheme is blue and white with cute little signs and pictures on the wall. It's got some booths and tables, and they still have up the social distancing dividers from The pandemic. There's also covered patio seating out front. There our menu screens that span above the entire counter with everything from Mexican food to breakfasts to burgers. They have a soda machine and also a machine with some aguas frescas. There is something here for everybody! We ordered a Fat Boy Burger, a quarter pound burger meal with fries, and a ground beef taco. I love ground beef tacos so I'll always order one if there's one on the menu just to try it. The burgers were good - - topped with cheese, lettuce, onion, and thousand Island dressing. The ground beef taco tasted very much like a Del Taco taco. The fries are those chunkier fries. All in all, the food was good. Someone came in after us and ordered the fried chicken meal and it looked so good, and another person ordered a breakfast that also looked pretty good. Johnie's Jr has been part of the La Palma food community for a long time. I've dined and ordered take-out from here through the years. The quality of food and service has been relatively consistent. Unfortunately, prices have increased due to inflation in the past year, but it's still a solid place for comfort food from morning til evening. The menu has Mexican and American fare--many items to choose from. My usual orders are the burger combos with their thick-cut fries or upgrading to onion rings. Lately, I've been exploring the menu more and have been surprised by how good the melts and sandwiches are. The dining area is usually clean, with minimal decor, and has both indoor and patio seating. The service has been polite and attentive whenever I've visited. Orders are also prepared quickly. Even though there are other good food options in the area, sometimes the craving for Johnie's Jr hits, and it doesn't disappoint. read more

I went for breakfast and got a chorizo plate. It wasn't too busy but the ladies working were very nice. It's a typical Mexican/American type diner place. The plate was fine. The chorizo had good flavor but it was really oily compared to other places I've gone, and I got a lot more hash browns than chorizo. I prefer the plate from Athenians down the street I think. I'll start off by saying I come here about every other week to pick up some food always has a great variety and prices are reasonable today went into order some food. Unfortunately, they made a small error on the food I ordered let the cashier know the mistake and I told her I would be more than happy to pay for the right thing however, the cashier seem to be in training and a lady by the name of Marina stepped in and refused to let me pay and fixed the mistake. We stopped at this restaurant for Lunch, if your in the mood for something quick it's all right. Burger meat was cold and looked mid done. They also have a sign hanging out side that says 6.99 but the problem is they don't put the size of the burger an when inside they tell you it's a Jr. Burger I think they should put it on the sign and not just attract customers like that. Panza llena, corazón contento!!!! I am glad we had the chance to stop for take out. The place was VERY clean, and they provide hand sanitizer. The lady who took our order was very nice. I got the combo plate, which was hard to decide for me cause everything sounded delicious lol. It came with 2 taquitos, asada taco, rice, beans and cheese and a side of guacamole. My family and I have been ordering from Johnny Jrs for close 20 years now, their breakfast burritos in particular are really good. I'm writing this review because I had an interesting experience today while I picked up my order. One of the reasons we continue to order from here and refer friends and family is that the food is good, but also I don't feel like I have to have weird interactions with staff to get condiments or salsa. It's mostly been relatively easy to ask for these things that complement the meal. However, today I noticed that my ordered was check over and over to see if I was charged extra for the salsa for the burritos we ordered. It was really uncomfortable, I stood there and I could tell that the issue was the extra salsa in the bag. I understand that the price of everything has increased over the years, and this had been passed to us, the consumer, however, I hope I don't have to look for another place to order food from because of something as small as extra condiments or salsa. It'd be unfortunate for us to stop coming here because of something so Insignificant. We have been coming here and referring friends a family for almost two decades. Therefore I hope that the service continues to be as friendly as it had been, or we'd be happy to find another establishment that recognizes that nickling and diming is not a good business practice. I wanted to give them more stars because the food is excellent they always cook my burger perfect but I have to say the morning/afternoon staff is not very nice or friendly and very quite rude so that's why I gave it three stars.. if you want to good stuff come later on in the evening the girls are sweet and nice.
