Unfortunately, our experience at Black Bear Diner was disappointing from the moment we walked in. There was no greeting, no "good morning," just "name, phone number, 25-minute wait." The friendliness and customer service at the front felt completely lacking. Once we were seated, our waiter was actually great and was the only positive part of the visit. However, the food itself was very disappointing. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, and when I took a bite, there were large eggshell pieces inside the eggs. After that, I completely lost my appetite and stopped eating. Initially I wanted to give this place 4 stars but I had a situation and it'll bring it down. The service was great, I forgot the name of our server but she was very sweet & attentive. I got the 4 piece fried chicken meal substitute mashed potatoes (10/10) my husband got some sort of burger with avocado sub fries for mashed (7/10) and we also got a banana bread pudding French toast to share (100/10) my toddler got a grilled cheese & he said it was cheesy and yummy (9/10) When I took my son to the restroom, as we were about to leave the stall - we came face to face with a male worker, inside the ladies room, cleaning. I didn't hear any knocking or any announcement of such - so it shook us a bit. I felt a little uncomfortable. He kept cleaning around us as we were washing our hands. It was not busy outside whatsoever in the restaurant so I'm not sure why he didn't just wait outside til we were done. I have girl cousins who sometimes use the restrooms by themselves and idk how I would feel if a male employee was in there with them. First time at any of these locations, I was invited as part of a large group. We had a table towards the back that seated our group with a little privacy. While everyone was arriving the server, who was all alone began serving coffee and water to everyone. Once everyone arrived our orders were taken. We went in after our hike Sunday morning. We were able to walk in and go straight to the counter. The service is five star very friendly and super quick in getting us our drinks and taking our order. Place was clean in our area although you have to deal with the front house noise of all the people being taken to their table. Food wise great portion for the price. I believe my classic plate was about $15. I was craving hash brown and it hit the spot. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is that it came out a bit on the just warmer side like it sat for just a bit and I've had more flavorful Benedicts. Overall good experience read more

Theres either something in the water, cups or ice machine. We ordered water and it had black flakes at the bottom. I dont know if its mold or what. We ordered another water and the same black flakes. Service is good. Very friendly and attentive. Food was ok. Just an ordinary breakfast, nothing to rave about. I'm worried about those black flakes tho. Two star for the rude hostess. We were alerted that our table was ready so we headed to the line where the hostess greets. She was singing in a guest so we waited patiently. A couple came in the door as we were in line and marched behind the desk and announced their table was called. I alerted the hostess that we were waiting in line before that couple even entered the restaurant. She replied with a blank stare and continued to seat these line violators. When she came back intimated what I said and her reply was "their name is on the list." I said, mine is also. She offered ZERO apologies and started your table. She walked away and I was telling my husband what had transpired as he didn't hear what we were saying. She butted into my conversation with, "I didn't know you were in line." I abruptly told her that she is not welcome into my conversation with my husband. She walked away and still ZERO apologies for how we were treated. Always a pleasure to dine here. Servers are always right on top of needs of the diners. I ordered a Chicken Avocado Club which was very good and wholesome. For my side I asked for a salad. Usually I have no problems with the salad. Today.... I don't see how this salad was sent out prepared to eat. The lettuce wasn't chilled, it looked dried out, and some of it was on the old side. Our server did defend that it's a mix The problem was that it was not appetizing She did get me a side of fries to replace the salad. Hopefully that the rest of the day the salads looks way better than what mine did read more

We're a Hispanic family of four who came in for breakfast for the first time, excited to try the place. When we walked in, we were told to wait a moment--which was fine--but we ended up standing there for about 10 minutes. Then, two Caucasian men walked in, and the hostess immediately rushed over to seat them, even though the table we eventually got was open the entire time. Once seated, we waited for service that never came--no water, no coffee, no one even took our drink order. Meanwhile, the two men who arrived after us were served right away, given coffee, and had their order taken. We watched as servers checked on other tables, brought refills, and attended to guests who came in after us, while we were completely ignored. After about 15 minutes of this, we decided to leave. It was embarrassing, frustrating, and disheartening to be treated like we weren't worth serving. As people of brown color, it felt like we were invisible and unwelcome. No one should ever be made to feel that way when they're simply trying to enjoy a meal. read more

The staff saw us and were really nice but kept saying "we'll be right with you" so guess they might have been pretty backed up. When they did seat us, they are fast with the orders and check in with you at a good interval. Food: good deal for the price and quantity. The soup bowl could be bigger. I got the chicken steak ($17.99) and it was enough food. Would avoid the fries (good when hot but otherwise bland) and avoid the baked potato (couldn't tell if it was just supposed to be too hard or just underbaked). Do get the shakes ($5.99)! read more

My family and I decided to check out this diner on a Tuesday night. They have merchandise, flurry slippers, baby onesie, t shirts and mugs and fun things near the front door. The service was friendly. The newspaper was a fun touch for my 10 years old. The food was rather meh, certainly not comforting like you would expect from a diner. I didn't know what to make of that empty feeling I got right after we left the diner. We had the chicken fried steak omelette and the bbq ribs plate. The omelette had fresh veggies but the chopped up chicken fried steak chunks were too mushy like the meat was marinated for too long. The country fried potatoes was okay, a bit too greasy for potatoes. The omelette was still edible. The ribs were just plain lazy, it was broiled with some bbq sauce on top. Pretty sure it was nowhere near a grill because it tasted like the microwave did the cooking!
