Don't be intimidated by the gas station vibe. Local pit stop for some brunch! The restaurant opening is located inside the Petro travel center store and there is plenty of parking. It was our first time here and the food was pretty ok for a truck stop dinner and the portions were large. However the Service wasn't terrific. We were a party of 12 and they were able to accommodate for our large party. Working in the food industry myself, I understand the struggle of rushes but in this case, we had to keep reminding the waiter of two orders. One of them even came so late that the food was cold, and everyone in our party almost finished with their meals. As for the second one It seems like they had forgotten it because we had to come up to the front and ask and we saw the plate just sitting there. They did reimburse us for one meal but service was a bit disappointing.

Black bear diner is a cute honey diner that is found in Horizon, TX. The service was great the servers were friendly and were able to recommend some of their favorite dishes. My boyfriend ended up trying the bacon classic cheese burger and I had the open faced turkey sandwich. The food was exceptional comfort food. The staff was extremely friendly. My boyfriend and I also shared a brownie sundae. The options are endless. If you are in the mood for comfort food check out the Black Bear Diner

The food was very cold. We asked our waitress to heat up the pancakes and she stuck the plate with the syrup in the microwave, which caramelized the syrup. Not to mention the pancakes were burnt.

In general, the husband and I like Black Bear Diner. The first one we went to was years ago in Phoenix and always a favorite place on a birthday. More recently, we've gone to the newer truckstop locations. It was nice to find one in El Paso. This location seems fairly new. It's located inside the Petro and replaces the previous restaurant. We were at the Petro for a couple of days on a reset and had three of our meals at the Black Bear. Each visit, we were seated right away. There are booths and tables along with counter dining. The menu has plenty of options, including entrees with smaller portions and low calorie options. The food was good, but lacking at times. The Fit & Focused Chicken Apple Scramble was greasy and missing the avocado. The husband had a cheeseburger that was very good, but the coleslaw was cabbage with very little else. Some of the food came out barely warm. Overall, food was hit or miss. All of our servers were pleasant. Service was good.

I have fond memories of visiting this location on the outskirts of El Paso, when it was the Iron Skillet so I took the family out to change things up a bit. I found myself wanting to give a 4-star rating but unfortunately I think everybody enjoyed shopping in the truck stop store afterward, more than our actual meals. The hustle at the location was undeniable. The staff was working hard & moving to get diners served quickly to make room for those waiting for seats. The location is kinda cool with woodwork throughout that ties into the Black Bear theme. For the actual food, we ordered the chicken strip meal with fries (4-5 stars), the breakfast waffle meal (3 stars but waffle was tasty & sweet enough to not require syrup), the bbq burger (4-5 stars), the chicken fried steak breakfast meal (3 stars) and the bbq pork ribs (2 stars). Best part of the meals was the kids strips & burger. Most disappointing was the ribs - they were not tender at all and most were left uneaten. We might return again but hopefully it'll be better food next time.

    Chicken and waffles

First when we sat down she took our drink order quickly. We Ordered chicken and waffles and Cheese burger basket waited 30 minutes still no food . People ordered around us came 15 minutes after us and they have already gotten the food. Same server. Would not recommend and won't be back.

Had been waiting to visit this location since opening and we seemed to have picked a perfect day to do so. We initially tried for Fathers day but the wait was just a tad over what we felt comfortable doing. Also as a recommendation to other people, this is a diner, which means it is not that large of a place and large parties will take time to be seated as the accommodations are a tad lackluster in that sense. Their food as always was as delicious as their arizona locations that we frequent throughout the year. I had their Country Fried Steak eggs benedict and as always the portions were good and hearty. The fruit was deliciously crisp and in season and honestly everything felt and tasted great. The atmosphere is one you would expect and it does feel very active throughout your meal. Please remember they do have fudge as well as other goodies you can take afterwards. This is inside the Petro station where there used to be a Skillet Diner so please don't go in expecting this to be a large establishment like its other iterations. Also shoutout to Petro for awesome amenities while traveling.

Menu is just like a newspaper, and it's folded about the same size, lots of food on there

First of all the menu is so extensive, it was difficult to decide what I wanted between so many good choices. Please know that the portions are huge! We couldn't decide to we started with dessert. It was a bear claw stuffed with berries, served, warm and yummy. Then we had a difficulty deciding between all you can eat fried fish on Friday or on Fridays and Saturdays the prime rib plate, but we chose order breakfast to go -I ordered the volcano , it started with humongous pancakes three of them. On top were eggs I chose my scrambled. They were two slices of bacon and two links of sausage. This order gave me t three good meals! For dinner I had the club sandwich on sourdough with sweet potato fries. It was fabulous, and so much food that I had to take half of it home. My friends ordered a large breakfast plate, with the eggs, sausage links, bacon, pancakes, and grits... everything was so good. She ended up taking the pancakes home.. This place is been around for a while, but it's off my beaten track. It is located inside the truckstop at the Petro on Horizon Boulevard. I haven't been there since they changed the restaurant inside. I will definitely go back. !

The food was a nice change of pace from traditional El Paso foods. Soul food eggrolls: it was like a big spoonful of granny's Sunday meal without overeating. I'd never put greens, Mac n cheese, and chicken together but somehow it worked. Understandably, it wasn't seasoned like granny's to appease the masses, but the sauce on the side elevated the taste. Shrimp and grits: such a New Orleans feel to it, a much try and f you like the taste of grits. Savory and flavorful. The steak skillet was a heaping serving of deliciousness. We definitely got our money's worth and took food home. Eating here was such a pleasant experience, we can't wait to go back and try other menu items.

TVs are located throughout, from various table angles. Our server Alex will receive 5/5 stars for his kindness, attentiveness and attention to not only our table but his very full and frequently sat section. However, when reaching out to other staff members for assistance in his absence, there were some things that fell through the cracks. Missing silverware, condiments not being present, and at times things going forgotten or unnoticed when requested. The appetizer (pictured) Philly Egg-rolls, were the best food option we received for brunch that afternoon. It was shareable between 3 adults and filling before the entrees arrived. I wouldn't order the Monte Cristo Sandwhich again, very large, dry and just didn't pair well with the potatoes and the jam offered (pictured). We did have to switch out drinks due to her taste and upkeep up the beverages. The sweet tea originally ordered did not taste well but received new drinks upon request: Mango and Strawberry lemonade. This is a family friendly place, busy, but I would give it another chance.

I really wanted the mole sampler but they currently only have their breakfast/ lunch menu and no mole. Ended up with the Lions Mane Mushrooms Taco which was very flavorufl and had the most delicious salsa with it (pour it all over for sure!) and also their very delicious, rich and flavorful three sisters green pozole. They make the dishes they serve the food in and there was a heart in the bottom of the bowl. I enjoyed looking at the art they have hanging on the walls. The service was simple, order at counter. Very vegan/ vegetarian friendly spot. They have an espresso machine and various creative drinks which I didn't try. I'd be curious to try their mole one day if they make it in the future and I happen upon there again.

I kept it classic with waffles, bacon, and eggs--and it absolutely hit the mark. The waffles were light, fluffy, and perfectly golden, the bacon was cooked just right, and everything came out fresh and satisfying. Simple comfort food done right. But what really elevated the experience was the atmosphere. They had live musical entertainment by Louie, who was incredible. He played a mix of hits from yesterday and today, moving effortlessly between country & western, contemporary favorites, and traditional Spanish songs. His versatility created a warm, lively environment that both staff and customers clearly enjoyed--it added something special you don't find everywhere. Service was just as impressive. Our server, XAY, had a bright, welcoming smile and provided outstanding service from start to finish. They offered great suggestions on local favorites and specials, which made the experience feel personal rather than routine. The vibe overall is relaxed, inviting, and very "El Paso"--a place where you can sit, enjoy your meal, and stay a while. Overall: Delicious, well-executed brunch classics Live music that enhances the experience (not overwhelms it) Exceptional, friendly service Comfortable, welcoming atmosphere Would I go back? Without a doubt. This is more than just brunch--it's an experience.
