Tonight at 5:30 pm my fiancé and I pulled up to one of our regular go-to's for some dinner. He selected the chicken strips and I choose the taco salad. What I did not order was a side of moth. Honestly, the huge bug in my food didn't bother me as much as the carelessness in hospitality from the staff. Yes the bug in your food is super gross and I'm thankful I saw it and didn't eat it. But when we showed our server all she said was " oh I'm sorry. Can I get you something else"...ma'am I just found a bug in my food...why would I want something else? We both clearly lost our appetite after that and my fiancé did not finish his meal either. The did comp my salad (obviously) but charged us for the remainder. Which, in my opinion, should of also been comped. The bill was $22.00 - it was the least they could of done. But no...instead our server tried to upsell us on dessert... Again. After finding a bug in your food would you really want something more from the same establishment?! Black bear ...while I'll miss your food... you can do better. I've worked for The Walt Disney company for 15 years so hospitality and how you treat your guests is big to me. Black Bear is one of those spots that is consistently serving those plates we all know and love. This location is pretty busy all the time. But service is always good. It's pretty loud during breakfast so if you're looking for something calm this is not it. But you can always get a lot of food for the price. read more

My Uncle, who is a foodie, recommended this place to me. Although the $10.99 Steak & Eggs is no longer a thing, I thought the quality and especially the *quantity* of food you get for breakfast entrees in the $13-$18 range was exceptional. I ordered the Italian sausage patties with extra crispy hashbrowns and poached eggs. When the waitress asked me if I wanted toast, biscuit, or a pancake as the side, I did a doubletake and asked, "a pancake?" Yes. "Like, a real pancake with butter and syrup?" Yep. Only breakfast place I've ever been to that offers that. I guess this place only has a 4.0 and not the minimum 4.5 it deserves because of complaints about the staff, but I disagree with that too. My waitress gave me sufficient time to scan the copious menu options and didn't rush me to place an order. I got exactly what I wanted as ordered, and again, the volume of food you get for the price, plus the mountain cafe vibe of the place, makes Black Bear Diner well worth a morning visit. read more

We came in on a sunday night, about 1 hours before closing. we were seated and served quickly. I ordered a fried chicken dinner with salad, fries, toasts and veggies. My girlfriend ordered a chop steak with cheese cream, eggs and hash brown. The food was wonderful. Decent portion, my fried chicken breast has tender on the insider. No leftover yellow leaves in my salad. Absolutely zero compliants. Overall, we had a decent experience. the only thing i would mention was the carpet is bit messy. But hey, it is the end of the day. I visited Black Bear Diner in Fullerton with hopes of a hearty, satisfying meal, but unfortunately, my experience was far from that. While the service was decent--our server made sure we received everything quickly, even though they weren't very attentive--my main issue is with the surf and turf dinner. I ordered a steak that was supposed to be 6oz and cooked medium, but what I received were three sorry pieces of steak that were practically well-done. There is no way the portion I got was 6oz, and the quality left me deeply disappointed. The main reason we chose Black Bear Diner was that I was craving a good, hearty steak, but this meal completely missed the mark. My craving is still very much unsatisfied, and I will never order steak from Black Bear again for fear of receiving another mini flap of meat for over $20. She grabs the plates and just to the left of me, she's talking to the chef. "Please remake this food the customers say it's very cold" The chef replied, " cold!? What was it in the f***** freezer or something??" He proceeds to say with great attitude how he won't remake it, and it's not cold and he was being so rude and nasty to the server. I have not been to Black Bear Diner in a long time and have forgotten how good it is. On a Thursday lunch hour, there was no wait to be seated. The menu has so many great choices. I will have to come back soon to try other dishes. For today it's BBQ ribs and shrimp. If the menu item has a picture of a time clock, that item is available after 4:00 PM. Maria promptly took our drink and food order. She is very polite and professional. The meal came out in a timely manner. The ribs were generously lathered with very very tasty bbq sauce. The meat on the bones was almost fall off the bone. The shrimp was good accompanied with hand made sauce. I did have to ask for lemon. Had side of cole slaw which was good but a bit on the sweet side. The other side was a Parmesan cheese toast which was just perfect. Soft and flavorful. What can I say about this restaurant but ugh! We went here today for dinner based on our previous experience for breakfast and I must say that I never seen a restaurant do a 180 as well this location. The service was on the bare minimum if that, the food was over cooked with old oil, and it seemed like that we waited for ever to get our bill. With all this and the waitress still expected a tip, OMG! Funny thing is that I never been to a restaurant where they warmed their corn bread with a microwave. Their canned beans were on a different level. The Jolly Green Giant must be extremely happy of the used of their can products at this level. So you have been warned about this location.
