I visited at dinnertime, sitting in a comfortable booth and attended to by a very attentive and personable server. The menu is mostly burgers and sandwiches with a few plated meals offered too and they have a number of breakfast items available all day. I ordered a huckleberry lemonade to drink (excellent) and a burger that was being offered as a temporary special called "We Be Jammin'". This sandwich, which is not on the regular menu and may no longer be offered by the time you read this review, consisted of a beef burger with a brown sugar-maple bacon jam, mayo, Monterey jack cheese, and cheddar cheese between "thick-cut sourdough bread grilled with a Parmesan crust". It came with fries. The sandwich was delicious with the cheeses being the prevailing taste. The salty-smokey flavor of the bacon jam was also there but there was no hint of sweetness that you might expect from the touted "brown sugar-maple bacon jam". The fries were superb, well seasoned and crisp outside, soft inside. The kitschy black bear theme throughout the restaurant gives the place a casual, relaxed atmosphere. Wow! This was the most delicious breakfast meal I've ever had! Better than most breakfast places, their food quality is top tier. Their strawberry waffle was huge as well as the sausage links. Eggs were perfectly cooked and yummy. The sausage links were my favorite as they were huge and flavorful. The waffle was soft and a the perfectly cooked. I got this breakfast for free with a free birthday breakfast voucher that was sent to my email. This was amazing and the lady who was our waitress was so kind and patient. absolute horrific experience on Monday 8/26!! i'm a newly tired dad of a 5 month year-old baby boy. We decided as we try to crawl through our errands, to stop at my college favorite diner. Firstly, as we navigated our stroller through The dine-in area it was packed beyond belief in one area alone! knowing the diner there is way more spots throughout the entire restaurant to accommodate our entourage. Larger Tables weren't bussed and they sat us in the dead center of the main walkway! does the hostess not understand what a fire hazard is? Secondly Thankfully they re-sat us. as we asked to be relocated to a quieter and more spacious area for our sleeping baby, he awoke to the manager LOUDLY COMPLAINING about her labor percentages! Hell, even the couple next to us could hear the manager complain her labor being over 26; whatever that means. NOW THE ABSOLUTE REASON FOR MY REVIEW. My wife needed a break, so I decided I'll go to the bathroom and change my son's diaper; THE CHANGING TABLE BROKE AS SOON AS I SET MY SON DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Luckily I caught him as soon as it went into a decline fashion AND I HAVE PHOTOS TO PROVE IT!!! additonally I was apprehensive to even change my son in that disgusting graffiti ridden table, but I went against my judgement and gently put a piece of PPE between my baby boy and the table. As a man working in healthcare, I cannot tell you the amount of life-changing injuries i have witnessed due to a simple fall. The place was gross. Very popular old school diner with country lodge vibes. The food is passable as decent big portion cafeteria food at best. The service here is okay but they are very busy rotating two servers and one busser during a busy lunch on a weekday so food came out slow for most customers. Watched other tables with no food on their table for at least a solid 25-30 min. We ordered the tri tip dip and the grizz chicken fried steak just to get a taste of breakfast and lunch. The tri tip dip mentioned meat was piled high but it was just two strips of sliced peppery roast beef on a very chewy ciabatta bun and the au jus was barely flavored beef water. The fries were terrible they were not crispy at all like they been sitting out for a while. The "grizz" wasnt bad the country fried steak patty was delicious but the gravy seemed like it came out of a premix bag not homemade at all which is weird because the biscuits were definitely from scratch so why not the gravy too? The gravy needs more flavoring like some sausage and some salt or bacon fat like make us believe its evil and delicious. Anyway, this place isnt bad its pretty safe cafeteria food but i personally wouldnt come here for the fries trust me they were awful. read more

The food is great the staff not so much. They don't have enough people working. I stood waiting for over 10 minutes waiting for someone to ask us how many in our party. There was only 2 of us. Then our food took really long and I went to the restroom and I notice our food was sitting on the counter our waitress was busy washing dishes. . Same with getting more coffee or anything we needed. Service here isn't as friendly as they advertise. I think our waiter was disgruntled, possibly because she may be over worked. This location has scarce staff meaning the current staff has to work twice has hard to make up for the lack of employees. Our waitress got my order wrong, and I had to wait 30 mins without touching my plate so she can exchange it for the right order. And she didn't even check up on our table at all, I had to come out of my way and walk across the restaurant to talk to her. The waitress was very brief and to the point and only exchanged as few words as possible with us, she seemed to be in a rush. Anyways I don't blame her, she was probably over worked and doing her best. I would suggest the restaurant maybe close some tables down so the wait staff aren't over worked so they can focus on customer service, I feel like that's more important than being able to serve 2-3 more extra tables. I ordered a hot tea, but it quickly became a mess as the tea extra holder leaked everywhere and they didn't have just plain black tea, so that was a bit of disappointment. I took my son out for early dinner. He really wanted BBD, so we went. Unfortunately we didn't get to enjoy. We waiting for 15 min to be seated, mind you there was no one else waiting to be seated. I tried to get the cooks attention, but he kept looking down, avoiding me. So we walked out and had Hawaiian bbq. He DEMOLISHED the plate and practically licked it clean. I like the make your own plate and decided to try their house made sausage patties. Best. Patties. Ever. The mild ones are filled with so much flavor and melt in your mouth. When ordering, I asked for the cinnamon French toast but they brought out the original French toast. When I brought it to our server's attention (Cindy, who was an absolute delight), she was apologetic and brought out the cinnamon roll French toast ASAP. They let me keep my original plate and the new French toast as a "side". I was really happy with the service and the kindness the manager had for us. Black Bear Diner continues to be one of the best restaurants in Fullerton! Their food I are always above-average portions and their customer service is top tier. I personally love their Steak & Eggs breakfast with the red potatoes and two pancakes in the side. It's large enough to satisfy the greatest of hungers and the steak is always cooked to perfection. Best of all, they do Holidays! They feature different menu specials depending on the holidays and although this location can get pretty busy, they always move through the line quickly. Her eggs were overcooked like rubber. So I had to cook her eggs at home. Once I was done remaking her food I was able to rest my own which was cold.
