We had been wanting to go to a Black Bear Diner lately so we stopped by this one for brunch. Service was excellent and we enjoyed out big bear of a meal. I was craving waffles so I ordered the Bear's choice of Sweet Cream Waffle, with bacon, eggs and hash browns. To drink I got a classic orange juice, which was fresh squeezed and super refreshing. The place was pretty lively since it was a weekend, but the atmosphere was very comfortable and homey. Our server was super nice and accommodating. Our food came out at the same time. My boyfriend got the Bigfoot Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs, which he really liked and wasn't able to finish, which is rare for him, but understandable because it was just so much food. My waffle was super fluffy and hit the spot. My scrambled eggs were fluffy and my bacon had a good amount of crisp. It was a filling and satisfying meal that we both enjoyed. I could see us coming here again as they have a lot of different comfort menu options, not just for breakfast, but lunch and dinner as well. read more

I dined their with my husband and a mutual friend today for lunch. It was delicious. I had breakfast with scrambled eggs and avocado, and the most amazing blueberry pancakes. My husband enjoyed a double serving of grits and our friend had a New York steak with a baked potato. Our service was pretty good. But it seemed that we were maybe forgotten about a little bit towards the end. It took a while for them to bring the containers. We needed to take our food home and to pick up our credit card to pay for the meal. But the food was amazing and the atmosphere is great. read more

I always come here like a few times a month and DoorDash! I always have a great experience with the servers and the food! There was one time last year I had a server who was rude but I believe she is fired. Other than her everyone is so kind! It's got a comfy cabin vibe. No breakfast is amazing. Service is tremendous dinner. Is the food rotten the service run when you can't even get a hamburger correct you medium well and it comes back raw and then they take it and they fry it and it comes back and it just gets worse, my husband who is wrong and disgusting. I was wrong and disgusting but my grandson's food wasn't so bad I never ever ever go back in the evening. read more

Today (Christmas day) is obviously always a busy day but Tyrique was super attentive and kind to us sadly the table in front of us gave the restaurant a horrible time and yet the WHOLE team handled it with grace and respect. I had such a wonderful experience at this location on a previous visit that I left a positive review here about the friendly server and atmosphere. Based on that memory, I decided to bring my whole family -- including my parents and two toddlers -- for brunch this past Sunday, July 26th. Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences I've had. We were seated at a window table in the back corner. Our server, a woman with shoulder-length curly black hair, took our order but never returned to our table for the rest of the meal. Our food was brought out by a different server, and no one ever checked in to see if we needed anything or if the food was okay. Meanwhile, I watched the same server actively attending to the tables around us -- refilling coffee, bringing napkins -- while consistently avoiding our table. When we were ready to pay, she handed me the POS machine and walked away. While reviewing the receipt, I had a question, so I held off on paying and waited for her. When she returned, before I could ask anything, she told me the payment had already gone through, took the machine out of my hands, and walked it over to the table next to us with a smile. I never got the chance to print or review my receipt. What made it worse was that right after, she was laughing with that table and I overheard her say something like "Karen" -- clearly about me and my questions. Being dismissed was one thing, but being mocked in front of my family, including our young children, was genuinely hurtful. This was a stark contrast to the warm service I praised on our last visit. I would really appreciate a manager reaching out to me to discuss what happened. read more

Came in with a party of 6 at lunch time and waited less than 5 mins to be seated. Once we all sat down the server came over immediately and took our drink and lunch order, so immediately the service was spot on. The menu has just about everything you would want to eat and they serve breakfast all day. Love this. Portion sizes are more food than what seems to be typical these days and the best part is that the prices are within normal prices so you won't go broke having lunch. The food was hot, delicious, and the kind that you leave thinking about. They also have the cutest items to buy near the front door which sets the ambiance. Very disappointed in our meal! I got a taco shell salad with ground beef (they failed to tell me the ground beef was an old hamburger patty cut up, inedible) I asked for grilled chicken instead and they were very hospitable and brought it but after my meal was almost over- it was a warm grilled breast on a plate not even cut up. My husband's meatloaf was also disappointing. They seem to be going downhill fast. I will say that the service was great. About the only part of the meal we enjoyed. read more

Second time this week with Grandson because he REALLY wanted Chicken fried steak and eggs . To offset him I got the "lite" ham and cheese omelet. Cooked perfectly (not runny not dry) and the hash browns were perfect with the crunch around the side and on top. As always the service was excellent. The wait for my party of five was first told that it would be 10-15 minutes. It turned out to be a 45 minute wait. Parties of three were being seated before us and arrived way later than us. Absolutely horrible Easter meal. The restaurant was dirty and understaffed. We both got the prime rib holiday special. Our food was served before we got our salads and muffins. We sent it back. The salad is 95% lettuce. The prime rib was overcooked. We traded and only sent one back. It had absolutely no taste and the worst quality of meat. More like roast beef. It was just awful. The only good things we ate were the cornbread muffins and the sweet potato fries. The server was anxious to go home and brought over the credit card machine while we were still eating. Worst Easter meal ever. Really terrible to celebrate a holiday. read more

I ordered fried chicken, it was over cooked... not juicy at all. No seasonings... too much breading & very dry, Coleslaw was nothing, not much dressing. Bread pudding was so-so.... Needed cinnamon, more raisins & nuts!!!! Our server could have cared less... put one thing on the table @ a time & walked away. It was one of those mornings when everyone slept in, so for a late breakfast/early lunch, the whole family decided to head to Black Bear Diner for a quick brunch. We've been here a few times before without the kids, and after my fiancé and I raved about their chicken fried steak, the kids were excited to try it too. As usual, the portion sizes were huge, served with biscuits and gravy. We ended up taking home almost an entire meal because there was so much food left. Our two kids gave it two thumbs up, though they did mention it's a bit too much for one person. Next time, we might just order two and share! The vibe at Black Bear Diner is always cozy and welcoming--it's like stepping into someone's cabin and enjoying a homey meal with them. The staff is always friendly, and the service is quick and efficient. We're big fans of Black Bear Diner, and I'm sure we'll be back again soon! read more

This was the worst experience I've ever had at a diner. First we came in and all the table were dirty. Nobody was waiting, it was 3:00pm. The host said I'll be with you in a minute. It took more than 10 minutes for them to clean a table. I saw him talking to people in the back and not working. Once we got seated it just got worse. We had to wait another 5 minutes just to receive menus and place settings. My son's fish and chips were chewy and felt frozen. As I was drinking my coffee there was a paper straw wrapper in the bottom! I said look what's in my coffee? The server just shrugged and brought me a new one. Didn't offer to comp anything. When it came to order a milk shake my son ordered a malt but then the server came back and said we only have chocolate ice cream, is that ok? We said ok. Later in the meal my daughter ordered a sundae and now he offered the vanilla ice cream he said that they didn't have just a few minutes ago. What is going on here? He then went in the back and came back later saying, we don't have vanilla but we have chocolate or huckleberry. Huckleberry was never an option with the malt! My taco salad didn't have any beans like in the picture. The seats were wet. The country music was TERRIBLE. Who listens to this crap?? I just wanted to imagine i was in some mountain town but i was severely disappointed. It cost like $50 for this awful experience. I went and got good coffee at Made just to feel better. Also my daughter's mac and cheese was about the size of tennis ball. It was basically 1/4 of a box of Kraft Mac n Cheese. Like what, maybe 60 calories of food? The fruit cup pictured had berries in it. Hard cantaloupe, honeydew and one grape were delivered. This was so pathetic. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER. Denny's is better. Ihop destroys this place. I don't even like Ihop or Denny's. read more

Worse experience ever the girl Ysenia came back around 16 mins after our food had already came out (wrong) and finally asked if food was ok but I think she profiled us because we are Hispanic they forgot the bbq and my sausage gave me bacon but if she came out after the food was dropped she would have asked me sooner. Then when I was going to pay she was rude because I asked her for my receipt attitude and once. Thing what bothered me if she kept going to talk to the older couple and the kids behind us. We came here on a whim because we have always seen these diners all around southern california. We went and were seated fast at the bar for two of us. It was very easy to order. You definitely are hit with a a million choices. This is good old country breakfast. It's not the most amazing but it will fill you up. Rainy day, very busy diner but the staff had the line moving. We sat at the bar, watched the calm madness of kitchen getting every tables order out. Fluffy pancake, warm syrup but cold butter. Country friend steak omelette: country friend steak with spinach onion folded into a three egg shell. Buttery gravy covering giving additional flavor. Egg is fluffy. All I can say is I really appreciate Black Bear and how they feed you hearty portions whether you eat in the restaurant or you order through a food delivery service. My food tasted like I was being served at the restraint and I LOVE THAT FOR ME! I was craving something that felt homemade, and that's what I got. Sometimes I take Friday off to relax from everything in life, so I decided to go to Black Bear Diner in Fullerton because the food is of excellent. After I eat I go hiking at the Fullerton Loop. So I had a vegetable omelet and they gave me the works. I've always like my server Jennifer. She's phenomenal because she manages the the servers, cooks, etc as she's working. She's excellent in multitasking and is always so nice to the customers. Paulina, the general manager is very down to earth and is approachable. She is exceptional and does right by her customers. On a busy rainy day, our food arrived fast, the food was very good and hot. Our waitress provided exceptional customer service. She had a very busy section but made sure to check on us and all her customers. Anything we needed, from refills, to making sure our food was good. I'll be back to this Black Bear Diner. Highly recommend this place if visiting the area and Disneyland. Nothing like traveling and getting quality food with exceptional customer service. Great value too! read more

I've been a loyal fan of Black Bear Diner for years my family and I regularly visit the Costa Mesa location and always have a great experience there. This time, my dad and I decided to try the Fullerton location since we were nearby. We were seated right away and asked what we'd like to drink, but after that... nothing. We sat there for 20 minutes without receiving our drinks or having our order taken. Eventually, we just walked out. Very disappointing, especially for a place we've always loved. Unfortunately, we won't be returning to this location. read more

Over 30 yeas ago, our founders created the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, California, reflecting our founders' small-town America roots and their desire to bring home-style cooking and personal service back to the dining experience. Today began just like any other day, but then I treated myself to breakfast here, I can't believe this place is like dining in the mountains or the forest, but right in the heart of Fullerton. The Bear decor makes it even more forestry, I keep hoping a Black Bear Mascot would pop out from the back but no luck - lol The food and the menu is extensive and you can get dinner for breakfast, even lunch, sometime you might be craving a cheeseburger in the morning well guess what they serve it. I had just that a cheeseburger and fries, I got a few odd looks from other diners but the cheeseburger was delicious, and the fries were hot and crispy. Hit the spot 100%. Now lets talk about this fine diner's team of Black Bear servers and cooks, this team works well together and constant communication between the chefs and the servers which is refreshing to see. We were blessed with a server by the name of Jennifer, her warm greeting made me think of Mel's Diner a sitcom on TV way way back. Black Bear Diner is a fine diner indeed, driven past here a many times and decided to stop in for breakfast with my better half who loved all the bears, and we even ended up buying a few items on the way out. From the moment we walked in I thought I was in the mountains, at a lodge, having breakfast that is how original the decor is here. I think I've found the solution at PQH. We were welcomed by the warm smile of Jennifer, who was incredibly helpful throughout our wonderful experience. So, where should I start? We kicked things off with the Cafe de Olla, which was perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. It really gave me the jolt I needed! Seriously, you must order that first. Next, we tried the "Los Chilaquiles" with extra eggs and carnitas, along with the "Trio Sopesitos" combo. Can you believe the generous portions we received? Wow! Be careful with your choices because I left feeling stuffed and still had to take some home! Trust me, the menu doesn't do justice to the portion sizes. Don't let the prices mislead you! As you can see, I was thoroughly impressed not just with the food but also with the fresh, made-to-order meals no pre-made dishes here. I also appreciated our hostess Jennifer for being so humble and friendly when we inquired about the menu details.
