Once we all sat down the server came over immediately and took our drink and lunch order, so immediately the service was spot on. The menu has just about everything you would want to eat and they serve breakfast all day. Love this. Portion sizes are more food than what seems to be typical these days and the best part is that the prices are within normal prices so you won't go broke having lunch. The food was hot, delicious, and the kind that you leave thinking about. They also have the cutest items to buy near the front door which sets the ambiance. Second time this week with Grandson because he REALLY wanted Chicken fried steak and eggs . To offset him I got the "lite" ham and cheese omelet. Cooked perfectly (not runny not dry) and the hash browns were perfect with the crunch around the side and on top. As always the service was excellent. The salad is 95% lettuce. The prime rib was overcooked. We traded and only sent one back. It had absolutely no taste and the worst quality of meat. More like roast beef. It was just awful. The only good things we ate were the cornbread muffins and the sweet potato fries. The server was anxious to go home and brought over the credit card machine while we were still eating. It was one of those mornings when everyone slept in, so for a late breakfast/early lunch, the whole family decided to head to Black Bear Diner for a quick brunch. We've been here a few times before without the kids, and after my fiancé and I raved about their chicken fried steak, the kids were excited to try it too. As usual, the portion sizes were huge, served with biscuits and gravy. We ended up taking home almost an entire meal because there was so much food left. Our two kids gave it two thumbs up, though they did mention it's a bit too much for one person. Next time, we might just order two and share! The vibe at Black Bear Diner is always cozy and welcoming--it's like stepping into someone's cabin and enjoying a homey meal with them. This was the worst experience I've ever had at a diner. First we came in and all the table were dirty. Nobody was waiting, it was 3:00pm. The host said I'll be with you in a minute. It took more than 10 minutes for them to clean a table. I saw him talking to people in the back and not working. Once we got seated it just got worse. We had to wait another 5 minutes just to receive menus and place settings. My son's fish and chips were chewy and felt frozen. As I was drinking my coffee there was a paper straw wrapper in the bottom! I said look what's in my coffee? The server just shrugged and brought me a new one. Didn't offer to comp anything. When it came to order a milk shake my son ordered a malt but then the server came back and said we only have chocolate ice cream, is that ok? We said ok. Later in the meal my daughter ordered a sundae and now he offered the vanilla ice cream he said that they didn't have just a few minutes ago. What is going on here? He then went in the back and came back later saying, we don't have vanilla but we have chocolate or huckleberry. Huckleberry was never an option with the malt! My taco salad didn't have any beans like in the picture. The seats were wet. The country music was TERRIBLE. Who listens to this crap?? I just wanted to imagine i was in some mountain town but i was severely disappointed. It cost like $50 for this awful experience. I went and got good coffee at Made just to feel better. Also my daughter's mac and cheese was about the size of tennis ball. It was basically 1/4 of a box of Kraft Mac n Cheese. Like what, maybe 60 calories of food? The fruit cup pictured had berries in it. Hard cantaloupe, honeydew and one grape were delivered. This was so pathetic. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER. Denny's is better. Ihop destroys this place. I've been a loyal fan of Black Bear Diner for years my family and I regularly visit the Costa Mesa location and always have a great experience there. This time, my dad and I decided to try the Fullerton location since we were nearby. We were seated right away and asked what we'd like to drink, but after that... nothing. We sat there for 20 minutes without receiving our drinks or having our order taken. Eventually, we just walked out. Very disappointing, especially for a place we've always loved. Eggs were perfectly cooked and yummy. The sausage links were my favorite as they were huge and flavorful. The waffle was soft and a the perfectly cooked. Larger Tables weren't bussed and they sat us in the dead center of the main walkway! does the hostess not understand what a fire hazard is? Secondly Thankfully they re-sat us. as we asked to be relocated to a quieter and more spacious area for our sleeping baby, he awoke to the manager LOUDLY COMPLAINING about her labor percentages! Hell, even the couple next to us could hear the manager complain her labor being over 26; whatever that means. NOW THE ABSOLUTE REASON FOR MY REVIEW. My wife needed a break, so I decided I'll go to the bathroom and change my son's diaper; THE CHANGING TABLE BROKE AS SOON AS I SET MY SON DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Luckily I caught him as soon as it went into a decline fashion AND I HAVE PHOTOS TO PROVE IT!!! additonally I was apprehensive to even change my son in that disgusting graffiti ridden table, but I went against my judgement and gently put a piece of PPE between my baby boy and the table. As a man working in healthcare, I cannot tell you the amount of life-changing injuries i have witnessed due to a simple fall. The place was gross. I visited at dinnertime, sitting in a comfortable booth and attended to by a very attentive and personable server. The menu is mostly burgers and sandwiches with a few plated meals offered too and they have a number of breakfast items available all day. I ordered a huckleberry lemonade to drink (excellent) and a burger that was being offered as a temporary special called "We Be Jammin'". This sandwich, which is not on the regular menu and may no longer be offered by the time you read this review, consisted of a beef burger with a brown sugar-maple bacon jam, mayo, Monterey jack cheese, and cheddar cheese between "thick-cut sourdough bread grilled with a Parmesan crust". It came with fries. The sandwich was delicious with the cheeses being the prevailing taste. The salty-smokey flavor of the bacon jam was also there but there was no hint of sweetness that you might expect from the touted "brown sugar-maple bacon jam". The fries were superb, well seasoned and crisp outside, soft inside. The kitschy black bear theme throughout the restaurant gives the place a casual, relaxed atmosphere. Then our food took really long and I went to the restroom and I notice our food was sitting on the counter our waitress was busy washing dishes. . Same with getting more coffee or anything we needed.
