My husband and son had never been to Black Bear Diner so we decided to stop by for breakfast today. Our Server Jennifer was amazing, very friendly and helpful a true joy. My husband likes to joke around and have fun with servers, and she took everything in stride and dished it playfully back to him. My son ordered the Big foot, Hubby had the Joe's Hobo omelette (minus the spinach) and I just had the biscuits and gravy on the little less menu (it comes with bacon and i added a side of egg). Everything was hot fresh and so delicious. large portions, brought enough home for another meal. At checkout again the staff staff was super friendly, and warm. We talked to Vanessa the manager and she was appreciative of our complements. If you have never been to Black Bear in Pasadena or you have not been in awhile, you need to try it, I don't think you will be disappointed. read more

Nice atmosphere but it stops right there had better food from a gas station!!! Hash Browns cold the breakfast sliders had a weird sausage that would be better on a pizza than with eggs. As a diner the "Black Bear" is pretty solid. We were a party of (4) for a late breakfast and we received very good service. The portion size (quantity) is large and the price point is good...the quality, specifically seasoning (my only issue) needs to be improved, in my opinion it was definitely on the more bland side. This could be more of a cook issue and not reflective of every day. For me, I want to leave a place thinking ...now that was really good and sorry to say that was not the case today. For the price definitely worth it. The plates come pretty big, not like IHOP. The food was pretty good and the fresh squeezed orange juice was excellent. Definitely will come again. I never imagined that we'd get a Black Bear Diner where I live. I love their black bear theme, they support a wonderful cause; saving bears all around the country. Their portions are amazing, HUGE! Everything they cook is homemade, the staff are friendly and attentive, and the prices are decent. Black Bear Diner is a great place for breakfast and lunch, perfect for the family. My favorite menu item so far, is the chicken pot pie. I only gave Black Bear Diner three stars, because I didn't get a great (first time) experience. When my chicken pot pie arrived, there were strands of hair on my plate! YUCK! That was completely unacceptable, very poor service! Our server apologized and gave me a new plate with a freshly cooked pot pie. They took my order off our bill. IF Black Bear Diner perfects their management and presentation, I might give this place another chance. read more

Called on phone for pickup order because wife wasn't in mood for loud crowded space (little did we know it was dead inside) Tri tip sandwich came w no au jus (the main damn thing) , It is painfully dry & uninteresting without it.supposed to come w fries...no fries, instead they gave a cup of chili. (A separate "bowl " of chilli was ordered but not received. A place w so little business at that time could at least check the orders. Perhaps the greatest sin of all however, said chill contains beans...IN TX!!! Maybe spend less on your stupid T shirts & coffee mugs & concentrate on execution? However upon getting seated Amy from management was yelling at her waitress staff in front of everyone due to her pants.Which was extremely unprofessional and made it extremely uncomfortable for the rest of us in the restaurant as the restaurant grew quite. Went with family for dinner this evening for likely my only visit. The fish and chips was a poor choice. Gorton's planks in a box are better and the fries had no flavor, no salt, nothing. The cole slaw was dry with no dressing at all. Beware that the chili used on chili burgers has beans. The place wasn't very busy but the food service was slow anyhow. Our server was courteous and was probably the only positive aspect. I love BBD, but this location is horrible! I'm not a picky eater at all, but the food was too bad to eat. The potato was old and kind of crusty, the ribs were just fat, the slaw was dry cabbage with all of the dressing in the bottom of the bowl(how long had it been sitting for it to dry out?) and the shrimp was reheated. I let my server know that it was awful so he just ignored my table until he brought the check. It was honestly dead at the time, so the silverware on the floor that kept getting walked over, the dirty tables, and the filthy restrooms was pretty ridiculous. I can't imagine what the kitchen looks like. The manager did try to make things right, but the crew is just too young to properly run the place.
