At first, the hostess said it would be a few minutes, then came back and said about 20 minutes -- but a super-friendly host named Gio ended up seating us right away. He was cheerful and welcoming, which made a great first impression. We both ordered the Sweet Cream Waffle breakfasts. My friend had hers with strawberries and whipped cream, and we both got eggs and bacon -- she had scrambled, and I ordered mine over hard. The food was overall good, though my egg came out a bit too firm, with the top kind of too crispy, and the bacon was tasty. My friend said her meal was fine -- nothing special, but good. We both ordered coffee -- I got decaf and she had regular. I didn't care for my decaf; it had a strange chocolatey taste, so I sent it back. My friend's coffee came out in a stained cup, which didn't look great. They did exchange it for a clean one, but honestly, it never should have been served that way. Our server was polite, though service was on the slow side -- about 25 minutes for the food and a bit longer for the check. We came here late afternoon on a Friday, and were the only customers in the restaurant. We liked the the atmosphere, and the service was also good. They even have a little souvenir shop in the front of the restaurant if you're interested in some themed souvenirs. The main dishes we had were the hobo omelette and the cinnamon roll French toast. Both were really good. We've had better cinnamon roll French toast at other places, so we probably would get something different from here next time. All in all we enjoyed eating here. It's a good place to go get breakfast at any time of the day. We're looking forward to going back. read more

It has been disappointing to see that a quality of the food at this restaurant has been decreasing little-by-little. This used to be one of my favorite American breakfast. Restaurant I was there at these past week. And what a disappointment food was overcooked, even the pancakes were burnt and not only that, but cold when he was served or finally taken to my table, I addressed it to the waitress. And they warmed up my food in the microwave. Definitely. The food worse, not tasty steak was dry overcooked. Potatoes were aubercooked and chewy. Not crispy like if there were cooked and old. They have a lot of option here. It's a basic breakfast place. However, the portions are big so you feel it's worth the investment. The staff is friendly the inside feels like you're in a cabin and there's really not much to complain about. I really think they should improve the rewards program like every other establishment. We just put in your phone number and earn points but they don't do that here so that's a downside. Ordered a Parmesan sourdough burger that was supposed to have Swiss cheese and substitute a veggie patty. The first time the server brought something on marbled rye bread that had a burned burger patty. I have patronized other Black Bear Diners in other cities and Rancho Cucamonga more than once. Although the quantity of food is more than enough, the quality is less than desirable. I don't understand why the food they serve is good one day and the next, well, not so good. I ordered their breakfast marinated-grilled skirt steak special, and I was disappointed, to say the least. As a matter of fact, I lost my appetite. The steak was tough to the bite and less than warm, as was the rest of my plate. I also ordered a short stack, and the pancakes were cold and dry. The coffee was lukewarm. One positive review was their ham steak and eggs. My wife had no complaints. The whole experience with my order was disappointing. The service was slow even though there were only a handful of customers. Our waitress and the restaurant team, although busy, were nice and had good personalities. It has a nice country ambiance, and the restaurant was clean, although it needs better maintenance. Very disappointing experience. We received a plate with a hair in the food and had to send it back. Not only was the situation handled poorly, but we were also charged twice for the replacement plate. To make matters worse, the utensils we were given were dirty. The manager seemed upset that we sent the food back, even though the issue was clearly not our fault. The waitress was very loud when discussing the situation, which made the experience uncomfortable and embarrassing. I wanted to treat my eldest daughter dinner for her birthday. Ever since we tried Black Bear Diner (BBD) in Las Vegas, we've been wanting to try BBD in So Cal. Well, we found a location in Rancho Cucamonga. Here we are... We were greeted immediately upon entry. It was pretty empty at the time around 6pmish which was surprising since it was around dinner time. Don't let this worry you though. The stampede of customers came in around 7pmish. I guess we were just early LOL. BBD menu is massive... lots of variety for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I got the salmon with salad and my daughter got the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. We also tried the Huckleberry lemonade which was very good... not too sweet and not too tart... just right. Both our dishes were huge and just delish! Of course I had to get their huckleberry ice cream... sweet and yummy! For my daughter's b-day, they offered her a complimentary sundae which was very nice of them. Thank you BBD! Staff was amazing all around. Service was very good. Prices are quite reasonable for the big portions. Atmosphere is cute and countryish... almost like we were dining in the countryside. My kids have been here numerous times over the years. I'd only been here once , shortly after they opened this location, and I wasn't impressed. My kids suggested we go here for dinner tonight and I was up for giving it another chance since they speak so highly of the place. We were greeted promptly upon entering and seated immediately. Shortly after being seated, our server Tiffany came over to greet us and get our drink orders. I decided to try the huckleberry lemonade, which was really refreshing and delicious! My kids ordered strawberry lemonade and Dr. Pepper. Tiffany was GREAT! She was very personable and made us feel so welcomed. She let us take our time since the menu is so extensive and she offered her positive feedback on some of her favorite dishes. We really enjoyed having her as our server! Our order came out quickly. My youngest got The Grizz which came with practically a sample of everything from their breakfast menu. My oldest decided to try their fettuccine alfredo and added chicken. I opted for the chicken club with avocado and the onion rings with a side of ranch. Tiffany informed us they make their ranch from scratch and add bacon. It was delicious, and they're very generous with it! We needed boxes for our leftovers and Tiffany was kind enough to give my kids to-go cups for their drinks and topped them off for both of them.
