Me and my husband ate at this location last week for the first time and enjoyed ourself so much we came back the following week. We went both days on a Tuesday around 1:30 and it wasn't that busy our waitress Michelle let us sit where ever we wanted, I appreciated that. She was our waitress for both days and each time she was attentive, hospitable and welcoming we came back because of her. Last week I tried the BLT on sourdough and this week I ordered the steak and eggs with hashbrowns and toast for $12.99 it was their mon-fri special it was alot of food at a great price. The food and their strawberry lemonade was good. The food, the decor and our waitress Michelle made it an enjoyable and pleasant experience.

Black Bear Diner didn't disappoint. The food was so delicious. We had so much food we had to take some home. Loved their coffee it was good. Service was great. Our waitress was attentive. Only comment would be I wish there was a hostess at the front and cashier. There was a bit of a wait but would have been nice to not have to wait for someone. Ambiance - It's a diner LOL During breakfast there's a lot going on, lots of families with kids, etc. But it was totally fine and expected.

Been quite awhile since I've been here and breakfast just sounded good and came in. Ordered the steak & eggs special and overall it was good, asked for extra crispy hash browns and they were perfect! the steak was ok, the biscuit was very good. I have patronized other Black Bear Diners in other cities and Rancho Cucamonga more than once. Although the quantity of food is more than enough, the quality is less than desirable. I don't understand why the food they serve is good one day and the next, well, not so good. I ordered their breakfast marinated-grilled skirt steak special, and I was disappointed, to say the least. As a matter of fact, I lost my appetite. The steak was tough to the bite and less than warm, as was the rest of my plate. I also ordered a short stack, and the pancakes were cold and dry. The coffee was lukewarm. One positive review was their ham steak and eggs. My wife had no complaints. The whole experience with my order was disappointing. The service was slow even though there were only a handful of customers. Our waitress and the restaurant team, although busy, were nice and had good personalities. It has a nice country ambiance, and the restaurant was clean, although it needs better maintenance. It falls short of the owner's vision, "To have a clean place where people feel at home and can share good times together!"

You can never go wrong with eating at the Black Bear Diner. We were seated right away , all staff was friendly and attentive, the food had great portions, all food was cooked amazing and I wouldn't make any changes to what my husband and I ordered. And next time I'll be getting extra biscuits to go. Those are so fluffy , huge and just delicious.

It has been disappointing to see that a quality of the food at this restaurant has been decreasing little-by-little. This used to be one of my favorite American breakfast. Restaurant I was there at these past week. And what a disappointment food was overcooked, even the pancakes were burnt and not only that, but cold when he was served or finally taken to my table, I addressed it to the waitress. And they warmed up my food in the microwave. Definitely. The food worse, not tasty steak was dry overcooked. Potatoes were aubercooked and chewy. Not crispy like if there were cooked and old. Unfortunately for me, it is a disappointing to see. That's such a great restaurant. It has decreased the quality off their food. I took my daughter-in-law because she hadn't never been there. I had to spoke highly about the place and to realize that whatever memories I had from the plays before it's not there anymore.

My friend and I went to Black Bear Diner for breakfast, and it was pretty busy when we arrived. At first, the hostess said it would be a few minutes, then came back and said about 20 minutes -- but a super-friendly host named Gio ended up seating us right away. He was cheerful and welcoming, which made a great first impression. We both ordered the Sweet Cream Waffle breakfasts. My friend had hers with strawberries and whipped cream, and we both got eggs and bacon -- she had scrambled, and I ordered mine over hard. The food was overall good, though my egg came out a bit too firm, with the top kind of too crispy, and the bacon was tasty. My friend said her meal was fine -- nothing special, but good. We both ordered coffee -- I got decaf and she had regular. I didn't care for my decaf; it had a strange chocolatey taste, so I sent it back. My friend's coffee came out in a stained cup, which didn't look great. They did exchange it for a clean one, but honestly, it never should have been served that way. Our server was polite, though service was on the slow side -- about 25 minutes for the food and a bit longer for the check. The atmosphere was cozy and lively, with every table full, kind of like something you'd see at Knott's Berry Farm -- nostalgic and family-style. Overall, it was an okay breakfast -- friendly staff and a nice atmosphere, but a few service and quality issues kept it from being great.

Yeah Ok so I'm late to the party. I'm talking about Hella late but I'm finally here man! So breakfast for dinner? Yeah that all me! And probably some of you too. Anywho, this here spot gives me Big Bear vibes, not because it's the Black Bear diner but just the feel and look of it. Blah Blah Blah, so I scored the Corn Beef Hash and it was a little different then I'm used to but it was still tasty. Their coffee slaps you in the face but then again some people like it like that, LoL. So after drinking my coffee and grew a little hair on my chest, LoL I noticed that the Jukebox was like a mini Jack FM station if you know what I'm talking about. The service was really good for one person taking care of all of the tables by herself. And that's my take on this breakfast spot for late nights, Peace out.

We came here late afternoon on a Friday, and were the only customers in the restaurant. We liked the the atmosphere, and the service was also good. They even have a little souvenir shop in the front of the restaurant if you're interested in some themed souvenirs. The main dishes we had were the hobo omelette and the cinnamon roll French toast. Both were really good. We've had better cinnamon roll French toast at other places, so we probably would get something different from here next time. All in all we enjoyed eating here. It's a good place to go get breakfast at any time of the day. We're looking forward to going back.

They have a lot of option here. It's a basic breakfast place. However, the portions are big so you feel it's worth the investment. The staff is friendly the inside feels like you're in a cabin and there's really not much to complain about. I really think they should improve the rewards program like every other establishment. We just put in your phone number and earn points but they don't do that here so that's a downside. I highly recommend if you're not a huge eater to split with your partner, even the kids could possibly share a plate

I have always been a fan of black bear diner but I usually go to the location in la habra. This is my first time trying this location in Rancho, and I ordered an online pickup. The server, who was packaging my food I noticed was previously cleaning the facility's floor pulling trash out of a vacuum. He did not wash his hands once he was done then proceeded to package my food items. At this point I chose to not take the food and cancel the order because of the uncleanliness. I have been spending the last few days to try to get refunded, and it's been difficult to reach a supervisor. read more

Was in the area so stopped by for breakfast, was immediately greeted and welcomed in by a gracious staff, quickly seated myself and my 6 year old grandson, started off with coffee and decided to have the shredded corned beef and eggs with home style potatoes , black bear is known for their portions so it was no surprise when my order came my grandson said " Wow that's a lot grandpa " my grandson had the happy face pancake and had some of my potatoes which he loved, our server was a delight . read more

We love Black Bear Diner! Food is great and portions are generous. We love the fresh squeezed orange juice and the pancakes are so fluffy and delicious! I usually get the breakfast burrito, but want to try their lunch and dinner menu--the salads look amazing. We came on 4th of July and Megan served us. She was super sweet and very attentive during our dine-in experience. Food came out quick and fresh. read more

The food was alright, not the best but not the worse. Service lacked attention, a party of 9 food arrival took over an hour and while waiting we were offered corn bread to ease the wait stress of the food not being ready, we didn't get that. As consolation we were given a bit more of chicken crumbs for one of the salads however in the end their manager took the hit. Very rude gentleman, seem like he was upset at the entire staff in the meantime we were not offered any type of compensation or apologies from him as to the lack of service we received. Hope others have better luck. Ambience was great, was after 2 pm, rush hour was done with, maybe less than 10 other patrons in there. read more

Hello everyone it's been a while but I wanted to give another honest review on this brunch spot we found near our home. Parking: First off I'd like to say the parking is a lot better then a few locations that I've been to and it's next door to a credit union if you need to make any withdrawals Appearance/ambiance: At 1st glance it seems pretty simple from the outside but the decor inside has a very homey old school feel which I can really appreciate. The lighting is mellow and not too bright, and there is plenty of seating and the colors are a well coordinated and easy on the eyes Menu: There is a huge selection of meals and combos that are available as well as beverages and desserts. The menu appears as a newspaper in black and white but also talks about the history of the establishment which is really interesting. The main menu is a bit much to take in at 1st but with some patience you'll be ok. They offer breakfast lunch dinner which I'm hoping to try later down the line but today is going to be lunch Service: The service was good but they were a bit understaffed. Our server was Mario was very polite and tentative to us but was also having to cover all tables alone. I'm not going to knock him for that but I just thought I should mention it. Though for being understaffed the service was pretty quick and for that I give kudos Food: Today I had the turkey club and my girlfriend had the BLT. We both added avocado and I had sweet potato fries as my side and she had French fries as hers. Turkey Club: I'd like to start by saying this is one of the best club sandwiches I've had in a while. The taste off the bat was delicious everything was very fresh. The avocado was delicious, the bread was on point the perfect amount of crunch, the bacon was cooked well not too crispy and definitely not soft. Id also like to point out that the sweet potato fries were perfect. Not cut too thick or too thin a nice crispy outside and the inside was so soft sweet and delicious. I'd definitely recommend BLT: My girlfriend enjoyed her BLT very much. She also said the ingredients were very fresh and she loved their ranch and said it was definitely home made and could taste the chives. Great consistency not runny but not too thick Overall: Overall I'd give the Black Bear Diner a 4.6 out of 5. I will definitely be coming back and to those who are on the fence or just curious, I say go for it. Hope my review helps, til next time, be blessed everyone read more

This spot wasn't bad but wasn't great either. We went on a Sunday morning, so we did expect a wait, but it seemed like everything was quite slow here. They weren't able to give us a wait time when we checked in, just told us it wouldn't be long. We probably waited about 15 minutes so not too bad. It did take a while to be taken care of and served the food then the check, but the server was very friendly. We felt like the pricing on the food was a bit steep for what it was ($18+ for a 2 egg breakfast, $24+ for a platter) but maybe that is because we just got back from the East Coast and got used to reasonable pricing. The food itself was good, again nothing exceptional but not bad. I got a fruit cup and they only had grapes and honeydew melon, which was fine for me but I could see that being disappointing for some. They had their brand of hot sauces available but were out of mainstream brand hot sauces. Cleanliness wasn't ideal, the bathroom was pretty dirty and it felt a little sloppy. Not something I would even mention if it were a cheaper spot but for a $40 for 2 meal, we hoped for better. Not sure we would come back, but like I said it wasn't a bad experience either. read more

Absolutely the worst Black Bear Diner in the US. I ordered thru Doordash and my order came in late like one hour late . On the app I could see my dasher waited for a half an hour inside the restaurant and that was the second half hour. Food came unsealed. Yes the bag was not sealed at all, no stickers nothing. The socal omelette is so watery and the hashbrowns too. I tried to refry the hashbrowns but still soggy. The biscuit, cold and hard. The overhard eggs bled thru the bacon that made them soggy yet very chewy. Disastrous even for a 2 mile distance delivery. It is not doordash fault. I would never mind if it is not hot anymore - a good food even when reheated still would taste good. Denny's packaging is superb and safer. Black Bear Diner - for a $58 omelet and pancake order should you like consider at least putting a sticker to your bag or maybe preparing your food more safely and on the right temperature? read more

My first time trying this location, but it doesn't matter which Diner I go to its always busy and always has a wait. We waited for 25 minutes, and then were seated. I ordered the Taco Salad with ground beef. IT WAS HUGE AND REALLY GOOD!! Best Diner Ever! I have been going to this Black Bear because of their weekday deals. Food is always great. The servers are amazing, especially Tiffany! She's super nice, helpful and you just feel so welcomed. This place doesn't also get too crowded and it's very relaxing inside. We've came back several times already, we love the cute bear theme, and their food quality is satisfied. Food: -0.5 Trip- tip with shrimp Plate. $22.49. I enjoyed the Tri-tip, the seasoning is good. The shrimps cooked well but have no shrimp taste. Peppermint hot chocolate. (Seasonal) Love it. The hot chocolate itself is a little bit watery, the peppermint and cream lifted the overall flavor. Price: -0.5 Maybe the price has raised everywhere, but it's easily to spend $50-60 for two people. Service: Always have friendly waiter and waitress. read more

How's the food when you order take out or through door dash ⁉ D E L I C I O U S We all know sometimes food is not as great when ordering take out or through delivery apps. But not the case here my fellow food seekers. Super yummy. Eggs not overcooked. Biscuits and gravy was great. Oooh don't get me started on the chili bowl, you won't regret adding that one to your order. overcooked or dry food, slow service due to staffing shortages, and unhelpful staff. We been waiting for a hour for our meals. And the audacity for the manager to tell us "you need something?" When we got our meals it was fine, however the sandwich was dry and had little to no chicken. The waitress never came to by to see if we needed water or anything. Great service and good home style food. This Rancho location is very consistent with some other locations I have visited. My grandson loves all the bear decor! He wanted Mac n cheese and wasn't disappointed. I ordered a burger and sweet potato fries which didn't disappoint either. My husband loved his steak and eggs. I thought this place was okay. I went on a Saturday morning and there was no wait. We did however wait a while to get our food. They have a very large menu with breakfast lunch and dinner options. I had the breakfast burrito. It was okay, but very filling. I had the home fries but I wish I got the potatoes instead. The home fries was very hard and were not that good. Our server however, was awesome. Mario was great, always refilling up drinks without asking and was a great all around server. read more

History

Established in 1995.

In 1861 a gold prospector named Sisson fell in love with and opened an inn in Strawberry Valley - a quaint mountain meadow at the foot of Mt. Shasta, California, frequented by black bears and people alike. The friendly atmosphere and large portions of homestyle food became their standard, so when Bob and Laurie Manley and their partner Bruce Dean opened the first Black Bear Diner on that in 1995, they were determined to rekindle the same hospitality lavished upon early Strawberry Valley guests. The menu, service, and decor were designed to remind guests of a time when life was a little simpler, and service and quality were the cornerstones of business. Although we've grown from a single location in Mt. Shasta to 150+ restaurants, all are dedicated to the same simple concepts.

Meet the Business Owner: Bob and Laurie M and Bruce D.

In 1995, founders Bob & Laurie Manley, along with founding partner Bruce Dean, created the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, California. They chose the name Black Bear Diner because the legendary black bear is native to the Mt. Shasta area. Black Bear Diner reflects our founders' upbringing in small-town America and their restaurant concept sprang from a desire to bring home-style cooking and personal service back to the dining experience. While the Black Bear Diner reflects their creativity and concern for quality, service and value, our concept is built upon many years of practical experience in a variety of business endeavors.

When our waitress came by we reminded her about not getting our drinks yet and she copped an attitude and was like "we were busy, yeah I asked someone else to bring the water". Ok. No need to be rude. Thankfully the food was good, so at least that was enjoyable. Our waitress never came by once to check up on us, as we watched other waitresses be more attentive at other tables. Honestly I've had better service at McDonald's. That's embarrassing for a restaurant like The Cut where food prices are not cheap. I'm sure it was just this one individual that was performing poorly, but it left us with a bad experience where we simply don't want to come back, and take our business elsewhere.

My recent visit to Black Bear left me thoroughly dissatisfied with the overall dining experience. From the slow service to the mediocre taste of the food, and to top it off, the poor quality of service, it was an unfortunate letdown. First and foremost, the pace at which the dishes were served was incredibly slow. It seemed like an eternity before our orders arrived at the table. The anticipation turned to frustration as we watched other patrons receive their meals before us, despite arriving later. This lack of efficiency was disappointing and affected the overall enjoyment of the outing. Moreover, the flavor of the food left much to be desired. I had ordered a double-layered burger, expecting a hearty and satisfying meal. However, when it arrived, I was shocked to see only a single patty in my burger. The dish looked incomplete, and it was a clear departure from what I had ordered. The taste of the burger itself was quite average, lacking the deliciousness I had hoped for from a restaurant of Black Bear's reputation. To make matters worse, the quality of service was severely lacking. The staff appeared disinterested and inattentive to the needs of the customers. Our attempts to inquire about the status of our order were met with indifference, leaving us feeling ignored and unimportant. Such apathetic service not only dampened our dining experience but also raised questions about the restaurant's commitment to customer satisfaction. In conclusion, my experience at Black Bear was far from satisfactory. The slow service, underwhelming taste of the food, and poor quality of service made it a regrettable visit. I had expected so much more from this establishment, given its reputation, but unfortunately, it failed to live up to its potential on this occasion. We are frequent diners at Black Bear Diners, always appreciating the exceptional quality and quantity of the food - this place consistently earns 5 stars for its delicious meals. However, Ingrid elevated our experience to a 5 + stars! From the moment we walked in, Ingrid's presence was remarkable. She was constantly smiling and greeted every customer as they entered, making everyone feel genuinely welcome. What truly impressed us was that she appeared to be the only one serving patrons at the time. Despite being incredibly busy, she maintained an unwavering level of attentive friendliness. Our coffee cups, for instance, were never less than half full - a testament to her constant vigilance and dedication. At one point, we couldn't help but ask her if she was indeed the only waitress on duty. Her reply was delivered with perfect comedic timing and a big smile: "YES! ...and I'm doing an amazing job!" I would like to say that they are very friendly at the Black Bear Diner in Rancho Cucamonga they make you feel very comfortable and when you walk in you do not wait long at all the waitresses come and take you to your table and then OMG the manager her name was crystal she came right up to our table and she was so polite so very nice she made us feel right at home and being the manager Crystal she sure goes there and helps out her waitresses to me the manager Crystal and her waitresses are very close like one big happy family at the Black Bear Diner in Rancho Cucamonga and it's very rare that a manager would come out and help the waitresses the way Crystal did and I think that is very important in a business for a manager to be that close to the waitresses. and the food didn't even take that long and my family and I didnt want to leave the Black Bear Diner in Rancho Cucamonga because we felt so comfortable and at home that's how they make you feel and I highly recommend everyone to go to the Black Bear Diner in Rancho Cucamonga Thank you my name is Lizzie Escoto read more

Myself and couple of my Choir members went on Saturday under the rain to have breakfast with our dear Friend who was celebrating her birthday. First of all, the place was packed and people didn't mind the wait and were chatting. My grandmother used to say whenever you go to a place where people are in line waiting it's a good sign. Second, It was my first time at Black Bear Diner and I was impressed. High quality of customer service. The place was clean and friendly. Our waitress, Karen, was amazing! She took care of our needs in a split of second and was making round to check on us as often as possible. Thank you Karen for you work ethic and your uplifting smile. The service was amazing! The food was delicious! I am coming back with the kids this coming weekend. They have to experience what I experienced. Had a great meal at Black Bear Diner. Scooby is one of the best servers I've ever had and he really makes you feel comfortable. Had I not decided what I wanted already he was ready to recommend me options. Scooby didn't just have this type of service specifically to me either, he was very accommodating for ever guest in his section. It's only my second time coming her and the service from the staff and the food has been on point both times. I had the black berry stuffed French toast with an icing drizzle, which was a bear claw, 4/5 not bad wish the center was hotter, but still tasted great. The biscuits and gravy was 5/5 fantastic, and works really well with the side of hot sausage. The hash browns are cut into confetti like ribbons and were crispy at my request 5/5 as well. I went in on Saturday it was my first time at this Black Bear I had heard great reviews from fellow colleagues at my work so I decided to go i was greeted at the door with smiles and a huge welcome to Black Bear very clean, very spacious I decide to eat at the counter my waitress name was Brigitte I believe she was all smiles she was very knowledgeable on the menu I wasnt sure what to order so I asked her for her recommendations and I'm pleased to say she pointed me in the right direction I got a scramBOWL and a bear claw the portion was huge but well worth it for the price and size, while I was waiting for my food I saw a food expo in action and I believe her name is Michelle also super friendly all smiles both the girls really made my experience at Black Bear very pleasant will definitely be back with my friends and family read more

I had an amazing experience at Black Bear Diner, and I have to give a special shoutout to our wonderful waitress, Courtney! From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed and taken care of. Courtney was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. The food was absolutely delicious. I ordered the Grizz which came with eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, and hash browns. It was the perfect amount of food to keep me full and satisfied all day. The ambiance of the restaurant was also great - cozy and comfortable with a classic diner feel. It was the perfect spot for a weekend breakfast with friends. This restaurant brings something new to the table which pushes it to be 5 stars. On top of the great service provided by Ingrid the atmosphere, food, management, and decor were all worthy of 5 stars. When you walk in you are greeted with a smile and you step into a restaurant that is different. Upon being seated you are assured that your server will be with you shortly. While waiting for service the Asian manager is walking table to table making sure guests are cared for. Once your server stops by they greet you with an A+ attitude and answer any questions you might have. Once the food comes you see that the food is very homey and authentic. The taste is just like grandmas house (including the portions). Even when you leave the friendly attitude makes you hesitant to head out. read more

Tonight 9-21-19 was our 1st visit to Black Bear Diner. The server was pregnant and seemed like she didn't want to be there. I had a Patty Melt and it tasted like it was made from a frozen patty from Walmart $8.99 Senior meal. My wife had Chicken Pot Pie and it looked like chicken noodle soup with a crust top. $13.95 + added small dinner salad $3.00, $16.95 way over priced for this food. A lady walked by and stopped to ask what we thought of the food. She said she had chicken fried steak and it was very dry. She said she would not return. There was a family of 4 sitting across from us and I noticed they had chicken dinner and sent back the vegetables. Hoped to have a better experience. There are lots of dining choices in Rancho and this should not be one of them. read more

We eat often at this specific BBD and it's always a great time good service great food and I thought it couldn't get any better than that but Courtney as our server this time let me just say I usually have to ask for a refill or wait a minute or two for a new drink but she was right on it with the refills and our food got to us smoking hot fresh and the wait time was not long at all.. she also warmly greeted us and seated us as soon as we walked in! This is a good breakfast spot. I order the eggs Benedict and it was delicious. I usually order the Benedict when I eat out because I can't make them at home correctly. My friend had the waffles and eggs with a coffee. I order the fresh Squeezed Orange juice gotta say won't disappoint. The service was great and the food came out hot. I had tried a previous location and the outcome was terrible. I'm glad I gave black bear diner another try. My server Kimberly was awesome she knew her stuff and she was on top of it. First time to Black Bear Diner in Rancho for breakfast. We had such a great time. The service was absolutely awesome and on point. Denise and Scooby were so much fun and made us feel at home. The food was delicious, nice portions but wasn't heavy at all. Scooby and Denise refilled our coffee and water and made sure our every need was met. It was my birthday breakfast and I'm glad we went to Black Bear Diner as I felt so special. We will definitely return to what feels like my second family. Black Bear Diner is an absolute delight! The food here is extremely good, with huge portions that are always hot and fresh. Every meal feels like a hearty, home-cooked feast. Wonderful experience! Friday night my family and I walked into a really busy restaurant. There were only two servers working, and one cook so we knew there would be a wait. Crystal A. served us and let me tell you she was amazing. Despite not having some items we initially wanted on the menu she did offer us alternatives, which was great because it was our first time here and we did not really know what to order. first time here yesterday and I was pretty disappointed food has no flavor. Service was super slow waitress looked lost I THINK SHE COULDN'T KEEP UP WITH ALL HER TABLES. I counted 3 servers and the restaurant seen busy..CUSTOMER SERVICE ITS NOT IMPORTANT TO BBD . My food took a long time and it was cold I saw food just seating at the window. I SPENT MY MONEY HERE I ECPECT MY FOOD TO BE HOT AFTER WAITING 30 minutes for it. Over all I wouldn't come back. terrible management maybe they need to hire more SERVERS . We had the best experience yesterday at the Rancho Black Bear Diner. Our server Bri went above and beyond to make our experience extra special. I highly recommend requesting to sit in her section anytime you come in as I know we will be doing from now on. The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were HUGE! Before we could even ask Bri already had to go boxes ready for us! Make sure to not skip out on dessert either, that pumpkin cheesecake was to die for! I've lived in this area for years and I've never stepped foot in this establishment until today and let me tell you, I've been missing out on an absolute gem ! My man Mario was so impressive with his service! We've gone to other diners in the area and it's hard finding positivity so early in the morning but he sure didn't make breakfast feel like a drag! For my first time here, I have to say I was beyond impressed about the food, the service, and the ambience of the diner. Got seated very quickly, food came out quickly and instead of saying "Wow," I said "Holy crap!" Because I wasn't expecting the portions, but I ate every bit of it and loved it! Our sever, Scooby, was so kind and very attentive! My coffee cup was never empty or my boyfriends cold brew! He checked up on us and made the experience so much better!
