Asked about substitution roll for corn bread was told they didn't have dinner rolls, yet someone in our party got "biscuits". Requested horseradish for prime rib. Got straight horseradish. Had to ask for some sour cream. Waitress forgot the cranberries. Asked about what kind of soup, they didn't know. Menu said pumpkin or pecan pie came with meal. already out of pecan pie. So very disappointed that we chose to go to Black Bear on Thanksgiving Day 2025. It was baser than usual, I know because this was our 3rd time visiting in the last two months. We we seated right away though. But, not served. The waitress passed a couple of times saying she would be right back and take our order. After about 10 min she came and asked if we would mind moving to another table. We moved. We asked for the holiday menu and ordered. The only soup was tomato bisk. We chose salads and my daughter ordered grits. Salads were messy, just lettuce and three cherry tomatoes, no croutons, no carrots. Not their normal salad. We finished salads waited about 15 or 20 min for our dinners. I had the prime rib medium well. All food was lukewarm. Prime rib was dry, and had been cooked on the grill. It was about 1/3 fat, served with green beans and a scoop of mashed potatoes without gravy. No horseradish or a jus with the meat. No cornbread. My brother ordered carved ham. They must have been out because he got the regular grilled ham that is served with breakfast with a sauce on top, green bean, mashed potatoes, and a dab of stuffing. He did not get gravy on the potatoes, nor stuffing. My daughter got the meatloaf dinner with double stuffing, no veggies. I asked for gravy on the side and asked about the cornbread. Waited about 10 min and asked again. Need to say when we finally got gravy and cornbread they were both cold. We drank water and no one came back to offer refills or offer anything else. As we were finishing our meal the waitress came and told us that they ran out of pumpkin pie, they could serve us cheesecake for an up charge of $4,or take 10% off our bill. She added $1 on the ham dinner and took 10% off the bill. Service was the worst I have ever had at Black Bear. They were under staffed. Food was disappointing. We arrived around 2:30 in the afternoon, they should not have been out of anything. Avoid the holiday meal offers at Black Bear! read more

Started off great but as the server was taking our order another customer walked over to him and said something. In the middle of taking my grandfathers order mid sentence he walked away and went over to the other customer and helped them. Walked back over after 5 mins to take out order and forgot he had already started to take it. My husband decided he didn't want to eat and say there while the rest of us ate because he didn't think that was good customer service. What was supposed to be a nice lunch with his grandfather at a place that has memories turned into a trip where we won't be returning after being made to feel like the other customer was more important than we were. We came for breakfast on Presidents' Day so maybe it was busier than they expected but it was by no means slammed. It's possible they were short-staffed but the food was barely warm, the server only refilled my coffee once, and when I needed butter for my pancakes (there was none on my plate) I had to shout for it as the server did a run-by dropping off extra napkins that we did not request. The butter she brought, she took off another diner's table. On the bright side, the server was really friendly when we saw her; I like that they offer smaller portions of food; and the dining room was clean. I did visit the ladies room and was totally underwhelmed. The first stall had a dirty toilet that had not been flushed, the second stall had zero toilet paper; but the third stall was ok - finally. It was our first visit so I was looking forward to some good comfort food. Unfortunately, it seems like this will be our last visit as well. read more

The food here is good. Service is fast, friendly, and catches all the details. It's a good diner experience with diner menue with a twist. The cons are the lack of ventilation. My family and I come in for dinner the last 4 weeks and almost every time the entire dinning rooms feels with smoke that smells like burnt beef. the staff try to control it, but something is broken for this to keep happening. Also, this location is constantly short staffed. On a Friday night 15 full tables and there is one waitress who is super friendly and 1 buser. They only have 2 mins to drop food on a table. This location need better staffing and please someone look into why the dinning room fills with smoke read more

My boyfriend and I have been at this blackbear diner multiple times out and Mario and Melinda are absolutely amazing. Both have great customer service and just great social skills. We will both be continuing to come here. The chicken avocado sandwich as well as the BLT are great, and anything from their breakfast selection will make you happy.
