I love the food, not gonna lie. The server Kayden, with the glasses, OOOHHHH LET ME TELL YOU. Rude!!!! Very rude. My dad went to the bathroom and she came by. I told her we can order even without him, my mom even heard me. She said she'd come back. Then my dad finally came back and he went to the counter because she still didn't come back. And gave my dad an attitude saying "I just saw you come back" I TOLD HER WE CAN ORDER!! But didn't come back until my dad had said something. No type of customer service. Mind you, I'm only giving a 3 for the food not service. OH and we waited to be seated for a good 10 minutes since NO ONE was hosting. I get you guys are low on staff but shit at least give a good customer service. OH AND FOOD SERVICE TOOK ALMOST AN HOUR FOR IT TO COME! Don't expect a tip if you're doing a pretty shitty job. Black Bear Diner is one of those places you go for the heartiness of the meal, not so much for a perfectly cooked meal; meaning, you kinda expect there will be some issues. With that being said, the service is always nice, they don't always get it quite right, but it's somewhat expected. On today's order, we wanted something special for the grandparents, and they wanted Black Bear Diner. We ordered a couple items from the special Mother's Day menu, a prime rib plate (not pictured) and chicken sandwich; also got a kids "meal" burger sliders. I can't speak on the taste of much today (other than some grits that was either mistakenly added or unknowingly was in one of the meals- although runny, pretty tasty, and also the clam chowder- one spoonful was more than enough). Was pretty disappointed with how few onion rings there were, the kids "meal" consisted of 2 burnt mini patties on a bun with a lot of fries, also, the prime rib was forgotten to be cooked so we ended up waiting a little longer for that to be completed, and lastly no dressing was given for the salad. Mind you, when I got to the car, I knew I should've checked for everything right then and there, but I didn't. Decided I would rather take some missing items rather than go back in and ask for a bunch of things. Look, whenever we go here, we have a good time. It's family oriented, friendly staff, they always have some game playing. Yes, my rating is 3/5, but again, we come here knowing what to expect. read more

APPARENTLY, MY POST WAS DELETED. DO NOT EAT HERE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR CAR BROKEN INTO!!! I left a post on here two days ago about this, and now it's mysteriously gone. I assuming they deleted my review. Two cars were broken into last week in their parking lot. The police said they couldn't do anything about it. They have signs posted all over the parking lot stating do not leave valuables in the car, so I am assuming this is a comment theft area. On Yelp there's been no reviews of this, HOWEVER on Google Review there has been TWO reviews similar to this! Our service was slowww. It took over a half hour to just order our drinks. We ended up being there past closing time, at no fault to us. We got there at 8:30pm, but everything was so slow and supposedly they were not understaffed according to them. Between my post being removed, the slow service, and car theft being common place, my husband is starting to think the employees are in on this. That's why the service was slow, to give them enough time to break into their customers cars. read more

So I opted to take a road trip with my son as he delivered horse exercise equipment to Napa. Our motel (I'll YELP them in a minute) was walking distance to BBD. As we walked into this cavernous spot, there were about 3 groups dining. We were greeted promptly and seated. I noticed three servers in conversation, none making eye contact or acknowledging our presence. 2,3,5,10 minutes nothing! Finally, thinking maybe the place was so big they forgot where they seated us, I made a waiving gesture across the room to a waitress whom I had managed to catch her eye. She gave me a raised finger, hopefully signaling she'd be right there or that I was a loser for showing up. I hadn't decided which yet. No crowd, no lack of servers but no service. Finally, finally someone came over to take our order. Ironically she asked if we wanted to go ahead and order our food at the same ttime we ordered drinks. I may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night, so I took the hint and ordered everything I thought I'd want in this one fell swoop. I had a glass of cabernet and my son had a beer. I had the ribeye cooked medium with baked potato. I added the Blue cheese and mushrooms to top my steak. It came with seasonal vegetables of broccoli carrots and cauliflower cooked just beyond Al dente just the way I like with a cup of potato soup which also came with a very nice cornbread muffin. The cup of soup was thick and rich with chunks of potatoes and served piping hot! He had fish and chips. I had been to a BBD in So Cal before and the food met my expectations. They have an extensive menu and you can even get breakfast for dinner. I do recommend the restaurant however our experience this time only merited three stars. My kids like coming here from time to time. The food for the most part is good. The portions can be hefty, so come hungry. I appreciate the good service and they are fairly busy, especially on the weekends. The pancakes are always good. I usually order the chicken fried steak when I do come. Clearly nobody at this place is concerned with quality control and accuracy in ordering. Ordered delivery for a Cobb Salad as my son and I just returned from a trip out of state and no time to buy groceries. I've ordered from tis place in the past with mixed results, some good, some average and some up straight up wretched. The salad was delivered early so Doordash did its job but boy did Black Bear Diner fail with the prep of my salad. The classic Cobb Salad has a couple of standard ingredients, e.g. bacon and blue cheese, neither were included in this salad even though the ingredients are even listed on the Menu! Adding to that, I ordered Thousand Island dressing and they couldn't even get that, sending out Blue Cheese and Italian!! What I received wasn't bad mind you, but all it was was lettuce, tomato, onions and Chicken, that's it!!! With delivery etc. this meager salad cost me $25. You lost yourself a customer with this one. I usually eat from the dinner menu during breakfast. Big potions. I do like their prime rib dinner special. It's $17.99 and decent with soup and two sides. It's like two meals in one. But I don't think I ever found anything terrible besides not keeping my meat as rare as I want. Only gripe I have is service. The waitress is usually nice but definitely don't feel welcomed when I come in. I guess not everyone is on the A line and needs to stay at the back. It happens everytime i come in, and say hi to someone and the first person always gives me some stink eye...last time I had to say "eew". Heck I get it working long hours and dealing with people...but if you don't like your job then you can change that. Who wants to eat dry ass pancakes with no butter or syrup ? Not only that but bear claw had no filling . Door dash offers a refund of 2 dollars when the bear claw was 8 dollars . We didn't even eat the bear claw because it was not what we wanted . When we first arrived we were seated immediately, it was just my Husband and I. We got our drinks brought out to us but we were looking through the menu. I have been to BBD before but my husband has not so I know how the service and food is supposed to be. My husband got the chicken fried steak with hash browns and ov easy eggs & I got the corned beef and hash with home style potatoes and ov medium eggs, for both of our breads we got French toast. Our server was very sweet and answered all of our questions and our food came out quickly... almost too quick. My husband said his food was very good just pretty greasy. My corned beef and hash had absolutely no flavor, it didn't even taste like meat and my homestyle potatoes were DRENCHED in oil, so I asked the manager, since after we ordered our waitress was basically MIA, if I could switch them out for regular hashbrowns and they did no problem... after adding salt, pepper, ketchup, hot sauce and these new hashbrowns my meal was just so flavorless with a bunch of grease. I literally took 4 bites out of my meal and ate my French Toast. After we were done eating we sat there for a good 10-12 minutes waiting for our check and before I could mention anything to our waitress she took off and disappeared again , so we got the attention of another waitress to take the corn beef and hash off and I would just pay for my husbands meal plus my French Toast... they took $6 off my meal... that I sent back and didn't even make an indent on. Customer Service was a 3/10 and Food was a 3/10... which is a disappointment because every other BBD I've been to has always been at least a 8-9/10. Maybe I don't have the same patience as others have because I have been both a Manager and Server at restaurants and this would have never happened at the places I worked at, I would be talked to or would have been the one talking to someone. But God help you on that front because no one will come by to refill your drink or offer you anything or even ask if everything is good. Service sucks and isn't even pleasant. This is easily going be a go-to breakfast stop for me when I am running errands or going between the valley and the east bay. The place is very no frills, you can see it is a chain but they really have excellent food. The service was swift and friendly, the choices were plentiful and I would love to try an omelet next time I pop in. They have a bunch of locations around the bay area which is nice. I definitely trust them to have a good breakfast, better than your typical chains. My meal was simple: Three eggs cooked over medium *they were perfect*, 6 pieces of bacon extra crispy and patted dry *perfect*, whole wheat toast w/ butter and their potato hash which was flavorful and really hit the spot. This was the worst steak I have ever had in my life! It was specified that I wanted it medium rare lol what a joke. It was so dry it made my back molars hurt till the point the bleed. This steak was literally like beef jerky, when I called the restaurant they insisted that I bring only the steak back to get another one. My husband and I have lived in Vallejo for a little over 5 years and today was the first time we've been to this restaurant. Honestly, we were originally going to Nations to see how they were now that they have re-opened but being that I am disabled, I didn't feel up to standing in the long line but we were really in the mood for a good hamburger as we do not do fast food. We were absolutely impressed with our food and the service we received. They were very accommodating. Was in the "V" visiting Momsies for Mother's Day and she wanted to stay local. We rolled up around 7:30am and had Theresa as our server. The steak was juicy and tender and cooked to my liking. The garlic fries, though, was almost plain and close to the taste of regular fries.
