I deliberately…read morewaited a while to write a review because 1) I was very emotional about it and 2) I waited for a limited warranty. I had an old Acorn stairlift in my home that stopped working and I called RL Safe home to fix it. After about 10 minutes, I was told that its basically dead and to service it would be very costly and not really worth it. This call cost $250.00. For 10 minutes. He then told us that they have units in stock that they could install within a day or two of purchase and that they would put the money from the service call towards the cost of the purchase. We took the next day off from work and went the moment the store opened, picked a unit out that was in stock. We made a deal on the price and immediately following that, he added more money onto it for rods that were longer. I thought this was a little smarmy since we negotiated the price already and he had the measurements of my stairs when he did this, however, I just wanted this installed immediately. They told me it could absolutely be installed within 2 days because they had to pick up the rods. The first day they were supposed to come, they didn't show and didn't call. I called and was told they'd be there first thing the following morning. The next day - Again, no show, no call. I desperately called and left messages. I spoke to Maryanne and let her know that my husband was having to crawl up the stairs and it was very painful and unsafe. She was very sweet and told me she didn't know what was going on and would find out for me. She told me they'd be there by the end of the day. Again, no show, no call. Conveniently (for them) I had only 3 days to cancel the order. On this third day, I tried, but they wouldn't answer/return my call and they officially had my money hostage. I didn't have more money to give another company, and it would take too long to go to small claims if they didn't refund it promptly. Bottom line, we needed an immediate solution. The next day was the day before Thanksgiving. More desperate calls and false promises for me. The owner refused to talk to me. Maryanne told me they would be there. Nope. Again, now show, no call. Thanksgiving passed. Friday came by, no call, now show... until 6:00 at night. They told me the reason they didn't come was because they got a last minute install for an elderly lady that took longer than expected. They frankly should not have accepted the project or put it before our pre-existing install. I told them that none of this was an excuse for the lack of communication where I took off from work to be available to them for over 3 days. Richard only said "yes we could've handled this better". That's it. This was the first time a service provider made me cry for days and hate Thanksgiving. The install itself was fine. The product works fine.

Horrible service No consideration for customer needs…read moreThe bed we have is defective and we were told they'd pick it up on a certain date, with cable company hours.. you know, "we will be there between today and next year" kind of deal We then wait all day for the pick up and finally call at the end of the day being told it would not happen today and needed to be rescheduled. Why didn't you call us, why did we have to reach out to be told this? Then I asked to speak to the manager and get put in hold for several minutes, told I'd be connected to the manager and I get sent directly to voicemail. I then call back and am hit with an answering service. They don't care about their customers and the fact that having this faulty equipment is a hazard as if there were an emergency my loved one could not access the exit easily. All they care about is $$$$ AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS!

Northshore Home Medical Supply offered a big selection, which was good because I'm a big guy, and she went in to talk to the staff. Joe showed her the options, then said that they also rent chairs, so I could try it at home for 30 or 60 days, or just rent it for the period I needed. After 30 days we knew that we wanted to buy the chair. Their price was better than other companies, and they credited the rental fee to the purchase price, making it a great value. 2 years later there was a problem with the chair, the back collapsed and the remote couldn't bring it up. Calling the manufacturer for what we thought was a 7 year warranty, ends up on certain parts were covered. They couldn't even offer a service call because they don't have a Boston service supplier. I called Northshore and described the issue, they had a service tech out that day to review the problem. He couldn't figure out the fix. Joe came out at 8 pm and within 15 minutes the chair was working like new, at no charge. This is an excellent local company. I would recommend them highly.
