Really great lunch. We ate outside in the huge patio area. The service and food were excellent. I'd recommend this restaurant anytime.

At suggestion of local golfing group, We have had lunch there twice. Service, outstanding, Mitchell our server first visit did a grate job. Second visit and server Laurie also good job, both were enthusiastic about the company. Clam chowder was very good, a little thicker than we like but very tasty. The grilled Caesar with shrimp was fantastic. Baked chicken wings very tasty Beet and goat salad also very good. Calamari was tender and cooked just right. Better than average pour from the bar. After the pandemic we finally were able to return to the black cap grille. And they did not disappoint us. We sat at the bar and they were awesome. We were so happy to see manger Theresa was still working there. We had drinks and appertizers. We will definitely come back in the fall. Everyone in the family enjoyed the meals. Service was solid. My son and I have a burger and we both enjoyed it. My wife and daughter split their two veggie appetizers and they enjoyed both. Went to this place last night for dinner. We sat outside. Our waitress, Lucy, was super friendly and tried really hard to appease our toddler. She even made him a tiny Sunday free of charge. We came here on the recommendation of someone we met earlier in the day who claimed this place has the best mussels he's ever had. So we got the mussels to start. My husband agrees that they are fantastic. Last night was my first time trying mussels and I really liked them too. Dinner was crispy chicken thighs, garlic mashed and grilled veggies. My chicken had a tasty sauce with orange zest, figs with peppercorn. My husband had the hanger steak. He loved it. We split the special dessert of the day, bailey's chocolate chip cheesecake. Yummy! I've been trying to think of a way to describe the service and the best word I can come up with is indifferent. Slow is another good word. It took so long for someone to come to our table that we almost walked out. We were thinking our server didn't know someone had been seated, but when our waiter ended up being the person that seated us, that theory went out the window. There was only one other table occupied in the restaurant, so he certainly wasn't overworked. He took our drink and food orders and interacted with us in as few words possible. That isn't change during the rest of our time there. On to the food. We started off with the potstickers and they were tasty. My husband decided on the Swiss and mushroom burger and I decided to build my own burger. It can get pricey to build your own, be warned. I had a natural all-beef burger with Cabot cheddar, bacon and caramelized onions. I ordered it cooked medium and was told the all-natural burger should never be ordered cooked more than medium. The burger came out cooked well-done. Interesting. Someone may want to give the kitchen the message about how the burgers should be cooked. The burgers were OK, but we've had better burgers and service elsewhere in the Valley. We may come back, but it won't be our first choice. read more

Great food and service! The perfect way to reward yourself after a day of hiking. Friendly host greeted us right away and saw us to our table. Awesome selection of drinks -- we tried a couple of the margaritas and a local pale ale. All around great and came our very quickly. Nice dog friendly patio -- they even brought our dog a couple bowls of water. We started with braised beef bao buns and crab cakes, both were delicious. Yummy fresh fries came with the bao buns. We opted for salmon salads as entrees (the beet one and the burrata ones -- can't quite remember the names) and both were delicious. Great restaurant, have been here a few times over the years. I've only had a handful of items and the menu has changed since I last visited, but what I ordered was terrific. Went at early dinner time, around 5:30pm, was seated right away as a party of 4. Service was quick and accommodating. We had different appetizers: mussels, potstickers and wings. I ordered the honey sriracha wings because I'd had them before and they're always awesome. Crispy, sweet and a little spice. We ordered a variety of different entrees, salad, steak and I ordered the 2369 (pastrami in rye). This is easily one of the best pastrami sandwiches I've had. Good quality pastrami, lean and cooked perfectly. The bread was lightly toasted but not overdone, so it still had some chewy-ness. The cheddar and thousand isle dressing was a nice touch as well. I've had pastrami in NYC not as good as this. The only complaint some might have is that it was not a "NY style sandwich", meaning they expected more meat than they got. PERSONALLY, I had no issue with it. I felt there was plenty, in fact JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT. I like a good meat to bread ratio, and I felt this was good and balanced. Usually I end up pulling off half the meat and then eating it with a fork later or something. In this case I just ate my sandwich and enjoyed it. Definitely can't wait to eat here again. read more

After visiting more then a dozen times over 6 years I should leave a review right? Great location, great food, and generally all the staff have a great attitude. I do not give out 5 stars everyday. Consistency is the key. Consistently the food keeps me coming back. The restaurant doesn't promote itself as fine dinning but many of the dishes come out better then locations where I pay double or triple the price with larger portion sizes at that. Reliable, good food, clean and nice. Sounds like a nice lady to marry but sadly you can just visit but I recommend it. It has been awhile since our last visit and we have been around to all the rest and wanted to give this one a try again for sandwiches before grocery shopping(Best fill up first so not to buy everything in site). We both got the Chicken apple sandwich with the regular fries. Fries came out crispy and there was a very tasty pickle that came along with the meal. As you can see the review is low, so we are getting to the sandwich part. The chicken in mine filled half the actual sandwich. Had I known, I would have moved it so I get more than one bite in the left side(they cut the sandwich in half for you). All I had left was the melted cheese, bacon and a few pieces of apple. The right side of the sandwich had all the meat, which then, I was thinking, oh this will be good. I thought wrong. You know when you microwave food and it starts to cool down, it gets dry and hard, this is what the rest of the sandwich was like. My wife tried just eating the inside and leaving the bread alone, but gave up as it was too dry she said and could not eat it. The waitress was great, she did comp that sandwich, which we were happy to pay since we did order it, but a nice gesture anyways. read more

Tried to get in here for dinner but the wait was an hour plus, so we went the next day for lunch, when we had no trouble getting a table for 4. Really glad we decided to give it another shot as everything was excellent from hosts to checkout. We started with Mussels in Wine Sauce for the table and they were excellent. Accompanied by garlic toast to slurp up the sauce, they were a big hit, even with my wife who had declared when I ordered them that she didn't like Mussels and wouldn't be having any. Then she was going to try just one. I eventually had to wrestle her for the last one. For lunch, I chose the special which was an open-faced Haddock sandwich with cole slaw and scratch tartar sauce along with fries and salad. It was crispy and fantastic, and the bleu cheese dressing on the salad was special. My wife followed up her Mussels with a very high quality (and large) burger with a local bleu cheese and sweet potato fries. She, along with our dining companions, raved about the quality of their meals. The service was very competent and pleasant and the atmosphere was very nice. Beer, wine, and an assortment of specialty mixed drinks as well as a full bar were available. We were visiting from Florida or this would definitely be a regular place for us. The service was great, but the food was totally overhyped there. The price is high but the portions are small. Specifically the food is overcooked, chewy. Don't know what the problem is with fries in New England, but I haven't yet had any good ones here, so the problem is not unique to Black Cap. Oh well, the sandwich was very good, and the clam chowder the best I've had anywhere. The service was nice. One note: I was not aware that they allow dogs. I HATE dogs in restaurants, and will NOT eat at a restaurant if dogs are allowed, even if it's only on the patio. Would give this place zero stars if I could. My husband and I came here with our friends on a Saturday night after a day of skiing. Our friend wanted to get a drink at the bar while we were waiting for our table but was told that he would need to sit at the bar and drink it because it's against their policy to walk away with his drink. He didn't want to drink alone so he decided not to get a drink and came back to hang out with the rest of the group while we waited for out table to be ready. We were all joking around and just having a great time when the waiter came to take our drink orders. Our friend had ordered a beer in a goofy voice just to be funny and they assumed he was too drunk to drink anymore. He was 100% sober and coherent and he was told that he asked in a way that was rude to the waiter which was not the case at all. We even caught the manager trying to take a picture of us and we called her out on it! The food at this place is at most, mediocre and it was expensive for such small portions. We are a part of a ski group in the New England area and we are in the white mountain area almost every weekend and I will make sure to tell everyone about the poor customer service of this place. They ruined our dining experience and when we got back to our hotel, we had to order a pizza because we were all still hungry. STAY CLEAR of this place! read more

The Black Cap Grille was an amazing restaurant, which had the right amount of "grown-up" and family feel. It was perfectly grown up because the menu offered delicious main dishes, sandwiches and beverages! I ordered a pistachio crusted salmon that melted in my mouth and my picky toddler liked it better than his chicken fingers. They also had a variety of mules! In addition to making me feel like a grown up, my kids were catered to! Happy kids =happy parents. They took the kids' orders while they took the drinks so they were happily fed while the adults had their beverages. This restaurant fits into the family oriented atmosphere of North Conway. I just want to add a response to the business owner, it happened on Saturday, July 10, 2021. The waiter who dropped the food on the floor, and proceeded to put it in the plate was wearing plastic rimmed glasses and had grey/salt and pepper hair. The manager I spoke with was a blond woman who said she usually runs the bar. It happened at the kiosk near the door for patio seating. Do you have a camera? I promise you, this happened. They were alsmost empty at 2pm on a Monday, but wouldn't honor the fact that their website said patio open. I've been coming to the Black Cap for several years, we happened upon it one day when looking for a good burger. They have excellent burgers, but that's not all... Black Cap's menu offers something for everyone and the option of (seasonal) covered patio seating is a treat, but the inside seating always offers a cool and comfortable respite from hot summer days. I've always found it to be clean, and comfortable atmosphere both inside and out. I've visited with family, friends, as well as groups of hikers, and everyone raves about this slightly hidden gem! So surprised by the quality of food this evening. The dry rub on the wings was to die for. Now that's a damn good rub. The BYOB messed us up in the best way possible. Leah was our server. She was amazing. We are local and had originally gone to the 99 for dinner before heading over to the Arts Jubilee at Cranmore. Needless to say we had one drink at the 99 and left. We ended up at at Black Cap where we have dined many times before. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. My husband and I enjoy this restaurant. The service and the food is always excellent. Tonight we each had a Cosmo. My husband had a traditional one and I had the pomegranate one. Both were excellent. We started with the lobster arancini which was excellent. Then we had the potato, cheddar, bacon soup. It was very creamy and tasted very good. I had the short rib bolognese. A light sauce covered with short rib meat, very tasty. My husband had the sirloin steak with the potato croquets. The steak was perfectly done and served with a blueberry sauce. For desert my husband had key lime pie which he said was very good and I had the brownie Sundae that was also very good. I highly recommend this restaurant read more
