I wanted to give this place a good rating. The drinks were tasty and even though someone messed up our food order, they put it on the house or said they would. Unfortunately, when I got my tab back, there were several items that were not mine. A bartender started to aggressively yell at me and literally followed me out of the bar after I paid. He continued to scream at me and tried to get me to cancel my ride. I'm leaving two stars because even though this one man (kind of short, with a goatee) ruined my experience, the rest of the staff were doing their best. read more

I was skeptical of all the 5-star reviews at first, but we went on Friday and Black Crescent is worth the hype. Cocktails are great and pretty original, and the food is outstanding - particularly liked the Grilled Octopus and the smoked fish (the night we were there it was salmon). Oysters were also great. Sit at the bar if you're a relatively small group - Reynolds (the bartender) is a lot of fun to talk to, and makes some great food / drink recommendations. read more

4.5 stars. Went there for happy hour a little while back. Made the mistake of going hungry, which was def my bad. Their food is DELICIOUS, but really meant more for munching than filling your belly, and the prices are a bit steep if you're looking for quantity. As far as quality though, that charred octopus dish...dear lord, I still have dreams about that one. Oysters were fantastic, super fresh, clean, we ordered about a bajillion of them, but at $1/per it was well worth it. The house cocktails on special for happy hour were old-fashioneds, manhattans and gimlets. Not the best I've ever had, but pretty good still and clearly the place was slammed so they were making them in bulk. I'll have to come back sometime to try the menu cocktails which I've heard lots of good things about. Service was remarkably good, considering there were only two people working the floor. As a heads up, we came for a Sunday happy hour right at opening, and within 20 minutes the place was full. But the two people running the front of house (bartender and owner) busted their butts and everyone around us looked happy with the service too. The owner even came by and bought us a round (there were 7 of us). Definitely recommend this place, don't come hungry though or you'll go broke ordering the delicious food. Though to be fair, there are worse ways to empty your wallet. Next time I'll eat beforehand and save the extra money for some menu cocktails. OYSTERS. read more

Black Crescent is my new favorite bar! The drinks and food are amazing and the service is great. It's easy to become a regular with all the delicious cocktails, wine list and small plates. You feel cozy and welcome the second you walk in the door. The Peruvian Ceviche is my favorite dish. I've never had anything like it. The have happy hour cocktails and $1 oysters from 6-8 and $1 oysters again from 12-1 which is great for people who work in the industry. I would definitely recommend to friends and family. But i expressed my concerns to the waiter and he wasn't bothered. This establishment has been through different changes so in the competitive market's of restaurants management should address this issue. read more

Wow, I came here last night and this was the worst service I've ever received in my life. I came with a group of friends and as soon as we sat down the waiter (who turned out to be the co-owner, stocky guy with longish curly red hair) seemed very irritated that he had to serve us. He spilled beer on my friend and then made a snarky comment when she brought it up, had an attitude when another friend asked to sample a beer and unnecessarily argued with us when we asked about one of the menu options. About 30 mins later when one of the girls remarked that the waiter was being an asshole (not to his face though he apparently overheard it) he screamed from across the room "ARE YOU CALLING ME AN ASSHOLE?!?!" then berated us and refused to serve us any more drinks. After that you could tell he was FUMING and stomped around the bar until we asked for the check, which he delivered before screaming "NEVER COME HERE AGAIN!". The entire incident was absurd, and escalated out of no where. Given that there are numerous, almost exclusively female reviewers making similar complaints about this place I'm gonna assume that this guy is just a bitter, aggressive misogynist who either needs to get his anger in check or get out of the service industry because this is no way to treat your customers. My advice is that unless you're a woman looking to get into a fight stay the hell away from this place. read more

Don't go here! My friends and I came here on Saturday night. We read the great reviews so we were hoping for a fun night. There was space at the big table in the center of the bar but no chairs, so I grabbed one from an empty table behind me. There was no one sitting at this table, but it hadn't been cleared off. The bartender immediately yelled at me from across the bar. He demanded that I not take their chairs and actually went as far as to walk all the way around the bar and come over to me to insist that I leave the chairs where they were. My friends and I (and many onlookers) were beyond baffled by this behavior. I went up to the bouncer to ask for the manager only to be told that the rude bartender was the manager and owner! Needless to say, we promptly left. We were not about to pay for this kind of service. read more

The building itself looked unassuming. However, you can't miss the location as it's on the corner of Clinton and Rivington. The space is a bit tighter but still homey nonetheless which promoted the desire to indulge in some cocktails. Cocktails are priced at typical NYC prices ($15) but the beers are placed at a more manageable price point ($5-10). Overall, Black Crescent had a great aesthetic, friendly staff and enthusiastic patrons. Makes me wish I lived closer to become a regular. Will certainly be back to try out the oysters. My friend and I came across Black Crescent on a list of "top nyc happy hour bars" after a long work week on a Friday night. We were look for a casual vibe, with good food/drinks for a decent price. We were instantly greeted by the friendly and accommodating wait staff, found a comfortable seat right away, the atmosphere was cozy and they even had a mini movie projector screen in the background. From their simple yet classic food menu, we ordered the bang bang shrimp and cheeseburger, and it tasted like your favorite home cooked meal from your mothers kitchen-- and I mean that in the best way possible. It's a no-frills, casual bar situated perfectly on the corner of Clinton and Rivington, and was not obnoxiously packed with young college kids stumbling around the LES. The only thing I would say is the music was a bit loud if you're trying to chat it up, other than that, 10/10 would recommend read more

I had cocktails at Death and Co on a Tuesday and came here on a Friday. Black Crescent blows Death and Co out of the water. Expertly made cocktails with great balance. Reynolds is the best. Obviously an extremely knowledgable and skilled bar tender. They also have a great atmosphere. Small and cozy without being too loud and crowded.
