I had a reservation and our table was setup with a view when we arrived. The hostess greeted us very pleasantly. We had a great start! We ordered two cups of soup, pretzel, Beef on Weck and a steak dish. The kitchen was backed up so we waited a little for our food. The wait wasn't that bad since we were snacking on the pretzel . I don't usually give reviews under 4 stars. What happens next warrants the 3 stars. We ordered the steak rare or medium rare, depending on how rare they could make it. The steak came out with no pink at all. It was tough to cut. It took me awhile to flag someone down. When our server came, I mentioned that we requested the steak rare but it looks more well done. Her answer surprised me that I didn't know how to respond. I can give you A1 sauce, she said. I don't expect the steak to be a 5-star rating steak. However, when the steak wasn't cooked as requested and we were offered A1 sauce to make it more tolerable. That just doesn't seem right. She said she will check with the Kitchen to see what they could do. 2 minutes laters, she stopped by and said: I am just gonna make sure that I didn't make the mistake before I go to the kitchen. Hmmm, ok. She came back with two choices, 10% off or they will cook another steak for us. We don't want to chance it especially, when they kept on apologizing to the customers saying their kitchen is backed up. Besides, we had already lost our appetite because my father-in-law's beef on weck sandwich is also dry(see pictures). We didn't eat lunch so we arrived hungry but he could only manage to eat half of his sandwich, thanks to the Scotch Ale. I then asked to speak with the manager. I was told the manager is in the kitchen that probably won't come out. This was the first time that a manager wouldn't come out. Side note: I often asked to speak with the manager when the server did a great job and so want to recognize the server. I don't usually ask the manager for complaints. I told her 10% for this magnitude of error was nothing. She said she would check with manager. The manager still didn't come out. The kitchen must be really short staffed because now the manager offered to comp everything. We told the server that we are not trying not to pay the bill but want solutions for the two dry, overcooked meals. Especially, we had two glasses of beer, two soft drinks, two cups of soup and a pub pretzel. We countered that they waived the two overcooked dishes( not much was eaten). The server went back to check with the manager. She came back and said the manager accepted the offer and she would bring the bill right out. Twenty minutes later, we had to flag her down for our bill. My oh my, I felt so bad for my father-in-law because his Father's Day meal wasn't that great. He picked the restaurant because he was looking forward to the sandwich. I hope this is just a one off situation. Long review because I'm shocked with my encounter especially the A1 sauce solution offered for an overcooked steak. Still shocked! read more

Oh My! :( - Made reservations for 2 only to find quite the wait from getting a drink to receiving your food. Ordered a fish fry with coleslaw that was definitely spoiled with a odd smell. Wait was to long for the basic food we ordered. Young staff although pleasant was in no hurry to check on our food, some couples were tired of waiting and left. We happened to stumble upon this bar/restaurant while trying to find a place to eat that was open on the 4th of July. It was very busy and although the service was slow, the staff was very friendly. As overwhelmed as the staff looked, they were moving as fast as they could. The food portions are large. There are a few seating areas offering a view of the water. We tried this place as a family about a month ago when we were in the area after my husband raved about it for years prior. Terrible customer service, terrible food, terrible wait times. We said that we don't ever have to go back. Fast-forward until now, we were in the area again and everything else was closed, so because we needed a quick bite to eat, we tried giving them the benefit of the doubt and tried it again. What a mess, again. Not so great customer service, terrible food (My husband's garbage plate had burned hamburgers over what looked like just boiled pasta, yuck), and terrible wait times again. Don't go here unless you want to sit in the back for nearly an hour and a half before even being served soup and salad!! Our waitress rarely came back to our table to check on us. But the tables by the bar were FULL of food and they got there after us without a reservation. They claimed that they were "busy" when we left the restaurant after waiting for so long, but there was almost no one in there except at the bar. Love their fish fries, which I think is one of the best around western NY-my wife ordered the shrimp basket-outstanding taste along with about 20 medium sized shrimp for not a lot of money. All their others items are excellent and huge portions-oh, did I forget, their French fries and outstanding. It's a forty minute drive from Spencerport but the parkway drive is never busy and it will be worth the trip. Excellent service goes along with excellent food. read more

The gal behind the bar was friendly and efficient, the kitchen may have been overwhelmed as the bar stools were full of guys eating big meals. The Rueben egg rolls were unique and tasty but the NE clam chowder was terribly salty and that was the only flavor I could discern. It was surprising as it had lots of potatoes which should have absorbed the salt. I would not have enjoyed eating in the restaurant so I'm glad I took it to my cottage rental the music was quite loud and not my type of music. Seems more like a place that caters to men. read more

New to the area, staying for just a week, the Inn is located in a beautiful area and we were happy to find a nice place to enjoy dinner a few nights. The servers were very nice and attentive. Our drinks were great, we didn't feel rushed. Both times we had dinner it was delicious. Went here for a Friday night fish fry. Ordered the petite which was a huge portion and it looked delicious until I dug into it. I had beer battered and it had no taste. I actually put salt and pepper on it to try to give some taste. I then tried to dip in tarter sauce which had no taste either. It was like dipping in mayonnaise. I had mashed potatoes which didn't have taste either so I smothered them in gravy. The lobster bisque is great and I will not be ordering a fish fry again there. read more

I was shocked to not see the Black North on Yelp, so I added it! This is a great, "divey" restaurant and bar right on the shores of Lake Ontario. (And "divey" is a great thing!!) There is ample parking in the boat launch parking lot. The food is delicious and the portions are huge. You won't leave hungry. The ONLY reason I don't give them a 5 is that, depending on weather and where you get seated, you might be freezing or boiling at your table. Be prepared. It's well worth it for the great food! They were hit hard during COVID, so you might want to check out their Facebook page for status on certain nights. They sometimes close early or require reservations to keep things under control because of the difficulty in having enough staff. Go here. It's local. It's great. I'm not writing an exhaustive write up on this place. Service was great, food was fantastic, and location was great aesthetically. Right on the water. They were busy but able to seat us immediately. Had a Pub pretzel, which came with beer battered cheese that was unique. Slammin! Had crap topped haddock. It was very delicious, yet not worth the price tag. Wish the server had offered other sides than the veggies it came with, which were slimy and gross. The twice baked potato it came with was pretty good, but seemed to be missing something. Went for lunch with a friend who frequents the Black North on Point Breeze. It's a local place for cabin renters, fishermen, and local residents. While the decor is nothing to write about, the food is generous and fabulous. We ordered the $15 Fish Fry for one and shared. It was crisp, fresh, and hung over plate on both sides. Fries were lightly coated and fried to perfection as well. Coleslaw was a welcome side. The homemade tarter sauce was good enough to take home and savor for leftovers. This is now on the short list whenever we are in the area. read more

A really intriguing roadhouse located on the edge of Lake Ontario in beautiful Point Breeze New York. The chef is a genius, making everything in house, and with great imagination and flair. Definitely worth a day trip as a destinations spot to eat, and an interesting place to walk around and visit for a half hour or so. A really interesting menu. I could not wait to eat at the Black North Inn again when we were in Point Breeze NY last week!!! We were on a salmon fishing trip with Reel Excitement Charters at the end of August, 2017. As per usual, our dinner at Black North was amazing! We had Spicy Calamari for an appetizer with Lobster Bisque Soup... SO creamy and spicy! Although they were sold out of steamed clams there were plenty of other seafood dishes on the menu. I opted for the broiled Haddock Almondine as my entree. The fresh filet was mildly seasoned and had been cooked in a lemon-butter-wine sauce. Thinly sliced toasted almonds were sprinkled generously on top of the fish... it was heaven on a plate! I had french fries as my side dish and was too full to finish them. My husband had the Sirloin and Scallops. His sirloin was done perfectly - rare! The scallops were large and carmelized outside - tender and juicy inside. I believe that he cut his steak with a butter knife. He had mashed potatoes with brown gravy as his side dish. The mashed potatoes were homemade and were delicious!!!!!! (No wonder I couldn't finish my fries...) The bar area of the Black North is brimming with ambience: dim lights, a cozy bar, hushed conversations, salty fishermen bemoaning their losses, charter-boat Captains sharing stories of the day. The dining areas of the restaurant fall short on personality though. I am often reminded of eating in a diner or cafeteria... too much light, not enough romance, and a slightly "sterile" environment. Although our waitress was young and seemed preoccupied she was friendly. She rushed us a little more than we like. This was the only real downside of our evening. We watched the sun set over Lake Ontario just outside of the restaurant - It is just a few steps away from the docks. After a day of fishing we were hungry and tired, and our rented cottage was just up the road. The Black North Inn is always on our list of places to eat while in upstate New York! read more

The Black North isn't where you go for five star dining or ambiance, but if you're looking for moderately priced food and a good bar selection (now serving Big Ditch's Hayburner), you've hit the nail on the head. This place is a paradise for boaters and bikers, two groups who really know how to get their drink on. If you're on a bike, it's a really easy and scenic drive right up Rte. 98 through Albion to get here or the Ontario State Parkway (bless your soul if you're going that way though). If you're on a boat, then you're right inside the river at Point Breeze, right next to the state boat launch. There isn't a ton of dock space for boats though, so it could be hit or miss if you're visiting from Buffalo, Rochester, or Ontario. Look for the lighthouse and the breakwall, and you know you're there. The food is moderately priced and nothing worth writing home about, basically a step up from regular bar food. I had the chicken grinder and the chicken had that aftertaste that screams "I came from the freezer!" but otherwise the flavor was decent (though I did add hot sauce to it because I had concerns about it being bland). The fries have a beer battered taste and texture that is awesome. The service isn't super fast or overly friendly, but again, they aren't catering to the fine dining crowd, just keep that in mind and adjust your expectations accordingly. read more

My husband and I decided to take a drive out to this place last Friday. It's approximately an hour from our house and it's a gorgeous laid back drive! I can tell you that after actually eating here I am very certain I would walk there if i had too!!! We had calamari that was the best we have ever had and we get it at every restaurant we go to. The breading was so flavorful I found myself eating the pieces that fell off onto the plate while trying to get every last drop of the sauce served with it. My husband ordered a pulled pork sandwich and fries. It came as more of a hoagie and was one of the best he has had. I decided to try the french dip, omg talk about melt in your mouth! We enjoyed eating out on the deck, the place was very clean and the service was fantastic! Well worth your drive if you are not close. Neat surroundings also! Totally loved it! read more

Off to the great white north! Well the inn of course! This place is great! Ok points alone for the view of the point and oak orchard lighthouse. It's the perfect spot! Wether your sight seeing, boating, riding on the harleys, this is a great middle point stop in between Rochester, Buffalo, Olcott, Lewiston and the Falls to grab some grub and a brew at. The portions are fantastic here and the prices cheap! The nachos are enormous! Points for the portions and reasonable prices! Maybe I lucked out since this place has been receiving bad reviews, but since none these have been fairly recent, maybe change has come to the black north inn and it's a welcome change at that! As is the weather to come here and visit! I'll be back when I'm riding along lake Ontario via sodus point all summer long! read more

Food is definitely improving! Having eaten here twice over the 4th of July weekend, I can definitely say that the food at the BNI is better than ever. They've got the best fish fry in the area. They serve it thick battered with crispy fries and plenty of tartar sauce. The french onion soup is also delicious, though VERY salty, with lots of onions and lots of stringy melted cheese on top. The burger was still not so great - I think they haven't figured out the right bun yet, since Jimmy's ended up in a pile on his plate (though that could have been due to the long wait at the bar beforehand...) These servers really deserve some credit, putting up with the likes of my father-in-law and his friends, particularly after the hour-long wait at the bar with all his old buddies. They manage to handle the unruly customers and still keep smiling. read more

Our history of great meals is what told us to give them a try again... history did not repeat itself! Do NOT order the steamers! The clams they used should have been reserved for their clam chowder. If you like large and chewy inedible clams- these were the steamers for you! The beef on weck was also lackluster, dry to begin with . Don't expect a "weck" roll either, double negative in my opinion. The twice baked potato was also dry and lumpy. Such a disappointment... we used to enjoy our meals here!! We called ahead to make reservations, and whoever answered the phone said there was no need that they weren't busy last week. We arrived, said it was going to be a half hour wait. They took my phone number to text me when our table was ready, however, there was poor reception, and I never received one. We finally got a table after 40 min of waiting. Our waitress wasn't super pleasant, and we waited over an hour for our main dish, for a table of only 4 people. Not once did our waitress come over and reassure us our food was coming.
