I didn't even notice my cup had a chip but the server (ugh - I forgot to get his name) saw it quickly and switched it out. That is attention to detail that anyone else would have missed. We came right before noon on a weekend. There was no wait to sit down but the parking lot was still full since it's so small and many other locations have spots blocked off. That is the downside of this place: parking. It's in a center with a lot of great places so you may want to find street parking before coming in that's mostly what gave the star rating for this in addition to the food taking a while to get to the table. They bring out chips and salsa which was great since they will take a while to get your food. Other tables that would come in later would get their food sooner. I got the green chilaquiles thinking it would come out sooner but it was the very last thing to arrive. My partner got their food before mine and I still sat there as other tables for their chilaquiles first. It took about 20 min get our food. The chips and salsa they give table side are tasty. Don't eat too much of it esp if you get the chilaquiles since it's a lot of chips. The salsa is not spicy at all! My partner got the Birria omelette. It was pretty good but the egg itself was a bit overcooked. It was a strange combination but the Birria was tasty by itself. He would come back to try the meat in a taco. Could have used some sort of lighter element. Everything was too savory on the plate. The plate was screaming for something fresh on it. The cafe the olla was so good. A little on the sweet side but that is what is is. The chilaquiles were good too. I would say maybe add more salsa or get something else because it was way too much chips. This is def something you would share for the table a not got for yourself. I would come back to try something without chips. It's really cute inside. We randomly stopped at Ancestors Mexican Restaurant on our way back from San Diego and were genuinely impressed. The staff was welcoming and attentive, and the food exceeded our expectations. We've eaten at a lot of Mexican restaurants over the years, and this one stood out to our entire family. Everything we ordered, from the salsas to the guacamole it was all was fresh and tasty, thoughtfully prepared, and beautifully presented. Love that there's a delicious Mexican restaurant not too far from me with such kind workers! I tried the taquito (potato) lunch plate which was $15 for 3 taquitos, rice, and beans. It's very filling for the price and lasted me 2 meals! The potato taquitos were some of the best I've had. They didn't skimp on the potatoes, they weren't overly fried or greasy, and most of all, they were very tasty! Especially with the guacamole, fresh cheese and pickled onions on top. The beans were standard but the rice was good. They give complimentary chips and salsa and my mom also ordered the guacamole appetizer. Both the salsa and guacamole were very fresh and flavorful. The portion was filling, the flavors were bold without being overwhelming, and everything tasted fresh and well balanced.. ps. add the steak!! It was tender and juicy. The green sauce had the right level of brightness without being too acidic, and the asada added great texture and depth. For the quality and portion size, the price felt fair. Customer service was great, our server attentive, welcoming, and quick to provide recommendations when asked. It made the experience feel easy and comfortable. I was honestly surprised it wasn't more packed. This place deserves more recognition. It's been hard to find truly authentic Mexican breakfast spots in Long Beach, but this one stands out. I've been to Ancestros twice. The first time was a to-go order and the second time was this past weekend for dine in saturday brunch! The first time I came to pick up my order was a Sunday afternoon and the place was SO PACKED. There was a bit of a wait for my pickup order, but no complaints since I saw how busy they were. This saturday, it luckily wasn't as busy, so we were seated right away. I brought my parents since they've never tried Ancestros before and they both ordered the Huevos Rancheros. I got the chilaquiles and added avocado to mine. The food was absolutely delicious! My parents both couldn't stop talking about how good the food was. I told my dad how Ancestros has a 4.7 rating on Yelp, and he said he didn't doubt it. His plate was wiped clean. The chilaquiles were delicious and sooo filling, I could barely even finish half of my plate! On to the prices, which was my only complaint. The base price for the meals were great, especially in this economy, however, I did not realize I would get charged $4.50 FOR HALF AN AVODCADO!!! If I had known this, I would not have added it onto my chilaquiles. I think for the amount I was given, it should at least be a $2.50 charge for the avocado especially they're going for less at the grocery store. My dad added steak to his huevos rancheros for $7.50, which I can't tell if that's good or not, but he said the steak was cooked well and not overcooked. Overall, the food was delicious, service was great, and my only complaint was the up charge for side items. I would still recommend Ancestros to anyone looking for good Mexican spots in Long Beach. read more

As soon as you walk in you are welcomed with a smile. Angel attended us and he was gracious and helpful. He allowed us to take our time and answered all of my questions. He had quickly served us each a glass of ice water and chips and salsa. The salsa was superb; it tasted so fresh and had a wonderful flavor. Since we were there at about 2:30 in the afternoon Angel allowed us to order from the breakfast menu which is usually served till 3:00 on the weekends or the main menu. The huevos rancheros I ordered were probably the best I've ever had. My husband really loved the carne asada plate he ordered. Our waitress came back a few minutes later and ordered a Menudo bowl , Beef tamale, Mexican Rice, Beans, and a Mimosa. I must say the food was outstanding! I've tried the mole dishes twice: the first time, I had a bone-in chicken leg and thigh, and the next time, I requested mole enchiladas. Although the mole enchiladas aren't on the menu, they are happy to prepare them if you ask. It's rare to find a restaurant that serves mole prepared so well. They also offer Rajas con Queso on the menu, another unique and delicious dish! You can order Rajas with or without meat. Ancestros makes handmade tortillas, both flour and corn, which pair perfectly with the queso fundido appetizer. The staff is friendly, and there are plenty of tables, so you're seated quickly. There are some parking spots on street but you may need to walk a bit if it fills up or is on a busy day. I ordered the pork tamales and they were cooked with perfection. The pork was tender and the masa was soft and fluffy, not too moist. The chiles and spices added to the pork made it flavorful but i would have liked a bit more salt. The eggs on the huevos rancheros were cooked over sunny side up eggs with red sauce. It was a bit spicy but nothing I couldn't handle. The fried tortillas makes the dish that much better. Overall, food and service was great. The mole is hands-down the best I've had (and that's saying a lot), and the molcajete is huge and absolutely incredible--enough for two starving people or three with a normal appetite. Your food might take a bit longer to come out, but there's a good reason for that: the flour and corn tortillas are made fresh, by hand, for each order. They're thick, buttery, and completely worth the wait. I've been coming here since they opened, and it's really become the staple for my traditional and very comida hecha en casa (homemade food) cravings. I've had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful owners, mother and daughter and they pour their hearts into Ancestro's. I have a few favorites, but my ultimate favorite is the poblano chicken which is poblano rajas, corn, and a creamy sauce topped with chicken breast and their amazing rice and beans. The cherry on top are their handmade tortillas, and our favorite are the flour ones. Just hits the spot. My other go to's on Sundays are their pozole and menudo con pata. I really can go down the list of their menu, but really, I've yet to order something I haven't truly enjoyed. Just got back from this place now, and I already can't wait to go back.
