We went during LBFSW and got the 3 course meal. We all picked the Clam Chowder and it was really delicious. I had the Chorizo Empanada which came with 2 yummy sauces. Again - delicious. The Entree was a short Rib with mashed potatoes. Beef was incredibly tender. Food was 5 stars. Service was also great. Order at counter and food was brought to us. Funky little location, but a great LB find. I forgot to mention , they have a fun selection of Ice Teas - peach/ginger was bomb. Parking was easy on the street.
I finally tried Black Pork yesterday for lunch with my friend. The whole experience was wonderful. We had the guacamole with puerco, an Asada taco, a chicken empanada, a black salad and a beet salad. That would've been enough by itself, but I also got a cheeseburger with mashed potatoes. All of the food was fantastic. I also had a latte which was very good as well. The owners, Veronica and Luis, could not have been nicer. I originally wanted to try the spinach salad, but they were short on ingredients. Luis made a tiny spinach salad for me so I could taste it. It had caramelized pears and cranberries, and a delicious dressing. I will let the photos of the food speak for themselves. At the end of the meal, Veronica brought us each empanada. They were banana and dulce de Leche. They were heavenly and a great end to a wonderful meal.
Not what you would expect for the location. I was looking up burgers in Long Beach when I came upon Black Pork. I actually didn't even look at where it was located, and I assumed it was closer to the dtlb area. I wanted to try the burger with the black bun, but there were out of the bread and were currently making some more. Instead, I tried the chicken sandwich, and it was so good. First of all, it's HUGE. And gorgeous. It's truly Instagram worthy. That and the fries in the gold bowl. They really have their presentation down. I wasn't even that hungry, but I ended up eating every last bit of it. Now I want to go back and try something else.
A small neighborhood restaurant with limited space but food packed with flavor! Love their cute restaurant front and decor inside. Ordering is simple and service feels like you're getting a home cooked meal. The wait for food wasn't long but you know that your food is being cooked fresh since you kinda have an open view of the kitchen. I always gravitate towards chilaquiles when available on the menu, especially empanadas and tacos. Everything we ordered had good flavor and by the end of our meal, we were pretty stuffed. Give this spot a try!
Today I tried Black Pork's food week tasting menu and omg. The service was great and everyone was so kind. Now this menu felt like I was eating at a Michelin star restaurant. The portions were perfect and everything tasted so good. If you can come this week and try this menu I would 100% recommend it. (I took a bite of the rib and ate half the empanada which was too good.)
This was my first time at Black Pork (I've been wanting to go for a while) and finally got to try them out during Long Beach Food Scene Week. They had an affordable three course meal that really gives you the chance to experience their food & service. If you've never been (like me), you order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. I arrived around 5:30 for a later lunch/early dinner and by about 10-15 minutes later all the indoor tables were full. I tried the mango & spice iced tea and fell in love. That's saying something because I usually don't like flavored iced tea but this one doesn't fall into the pitfalls so many do. It wasn't overly sweet and didn't have that fake fruit flavor to it. Whatever the "spice" was also added a nice depth to the flavor. I honestly started googling mango spiced ice tea at my table to see if I could find a recipe to recreate this at home. The mussel starter was quite good. I found them a little overly salted but not to the point where it impinged upon my enjoyment of them. Empanada: The outside was perfectly crisp and bubbly without tasting/feeling oily. I had the chicken and liked both of the sauces with it. Korean BBQ & Mashed Potatoes: So good. The person at the table next to me was complaining to his dining companion that the mashed potatoes weren't smooth but I enjoy a good chunky mashed potato and these were so flavorful. Scoop up a bit with each bite of meat and you have a winning combination. Service was very friendly and quick. Super happy to have finally experienced Black Pork.
Fantastic food and excellent service. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The portions were generous, and everything tasted fresh. We'll definitely be back!
The food here was incredible. Great flavor, quality, and presentation while being affordable. We had the beet salad, mussels, pork belly skewers with mashed potatoes, and criollo shrimp. My favorite was the criollo shrimp and beet salad but they were all hits. The establishment is small and casual which is in itself an appeal since you can enjoy a high class meal in flip flops. It's an order at the counter set up but they bring out the food to you. The woman (I believe she is the owner) who took our order was SO patient, helpful, and attentive. She mentioned they make all of their teas and syrups in house so will definitely need to try it out next time I go.
This place is amazing! The food quality is for fining dining, but it's affordable and you don't have to dress up for it since the place is simple and chill. The owner gave us a free dessert, too. Delicious and savory food! I went in last week for take out and phone ordered 3 empanadas.. to my surprise they gave me 3 extra as Veronica said they had a BOGO deal on empanadas that day. They were all flavorful but my favorite were the pork and papas con chorizo. Then the sauces they give you to go along are just chefs kiss! I previously dined in with my husband during LBFS week and I still haven't gotten over the curry mussels, so tasty and full of flavor! In addition to the BOGO deal on the empanadas Veronica and I had a heartwarming conversation. It felt as I was talking to a comadre I had known for years! Good vibes and delicious food.. what more can you ask for? Can't wait to return. Thank you for your hospitality Vero!
My best friend and weekly lunch buddy was very excited to bring me here for lunch on Wednesday. He raved about the food, particularly the chowder, and the Cuban sandwich. This is not in the best neighborhood in Long Beach. It is not a fancy-pants kind of place. The bar next door was being pressure washed inside and out when we slid by to the front door of Black Pork! The menu was intriguing, the beef sandwich grabbed my attention at once. The gal behind the counter was very nice about explaining the options. The steak sandwich which I had ordered, turned out to be fantastic. The steak was perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned perfectly presented and I ate every single bite. The French fries were exceptional! Very crispy, hot fresh seasoned, even crave-able. I am still remembering them 5 days later, they were that good! My friend got the chowder, he let me try it and it was 10 out of 10! So creamy, filled with yummy clams, potatoes, and dreams! You Must get the chowder! He also had the Cuban Sandwich and it was also THE BEST! I could go on but this is our kind of place. Humble, mom and pop turning out awesome delicious food in a clean cozy unassuming venue!

I always passed by and today was to the day try it! I'm not really a big pork fan but saw they have other items on the menu. So i opt for the korean BBQ with mash potatos and rice. They give you nice pieces of short ribs. The mash was very good and the rice was also solid! Customer service was good and the inside seating area are nice and cosy They have everything from tacos, fish, shrimp, burgers and other sandwiches. I would definitely come back again and try other items on the menu as it is pretty big.. Come by and try this place! Lots of good options and desserts! Once again BLACK PORK didn't disappoint!!! We ordered the Korean bbq and BBQ Pork! Omg my pork was amazing and when I tell you FALL OFF THE BONE!! Wow.. Is this the Chez Paul? No. But, for a small family owned restaurant this place might as well be. It's small, with a lot of heart. It's got elegant music in the front with the sounds of the football game on the TV in the back. It's the real Chinaware and real silverware that make the difference. I've said it a thousand times in this business, pay attention to the small things and the big things won't happen. This couple gets it. It small things. But yet add up. And that's what it's all about here. They serve a fabulous product with confidence and enthusiasm. This is the very essence of gourmet cooking. It's alive and well in this gem. My hats are off to you. What a remarkable experience. From start to finish. Speaking of which. They have this amazing blend of casual and proper. Their menu is presented in a leather bound album. Each page typed by hand. A very nice touch. The prices in pencil. Also, someone paying attention to the market prices. A very good sign. Behind the plexiglass booth the woman takes my order. I pay and we sit. The seats are different. But in a good way. They have a very nice water dispenser with filtered water that was frozen and melted. You can taste the electrolytes in the water. It's very refreshing though. We are started with a bowl of New England Clam Chowder. This is clearly hand made soup. From the single clam shell and the rough cut potatoes this is a rugged, hearty soup. It has the perfect balance of cream, thyme and salt. It's not overly thickened and not broken at all. It has a generous amount of chopped baby clams which are tender and sweet. This soup is a statement. A damn strong one at that! And don't think I didn't notice your use of the white pepper. Very slightly overused, but, the aggressive use gave it a unique burn at the end which was also refreshing. It's a surprising start to a meal filled with amazing dishes! And a very nice touch to a meal that was unexpected but very much appreciated. From there we moved into the appetizers. I ordered the Guacamole with Puerco. Michelle ordered the tostada. Both of these dishes were esquisite. The guacamole was made fresh with nice chunks of avocado and fresh cilantro. It has a little bit of a kick (for a very white guy) but it is so very nice. It comes with four pieces of slow roasted thick cut pork belly. And some home made chicharrones. Which were melt in your mouth perfection. Not at all greasy. I'd almost think they were air fried they were so light and wispful. The tostada was delicious! On to the main dish. Michelle ordered the Beet Salad. I ordered the BBQ ribs. The beet salad was incredible with heirloom tomatoes, goat cheese and an arugula salad tossed on top. A masterpiece! This is a dish I used to serve in my restaurants and I couldn't do it any better myself. Honestly, very well done. The ribs were very good, but, were a bit dry. The BBQ sauce definitely added the missing moisture from the meat itself. And please understand I am being extremely tough on you right now. Most places would kill to have ribs as good as yours. But, I know it can be better. I've done it myself. But... so close and for none of the work on my end, this is such a big win! It came with a bacon mashed potatoes with just the right amount of cheese and sour cream. It paired with the ribs perfectly. Being a retired award winning chef myself, it's places just like this that give me such hope for the culinary future. It's original. It's professionally and competently made and presented and the taste... it's all about the taste, the texture, the feel... and here. It's all in the black! It's so damn good! Seriously. You guys are my new favorite spot. Wherever you are. The drive is worth it. The sketchy neighborhood is worth it. The shit parking is worth it. It's located between two dive bars... worth it! If you pray at the church of flavor. You have a new Cathedral to celebrate! This place absolutely DELIVERS! read more

Great spot!! We loved everything we ordered. The ribs were really meaty and the bbq sauce was homemade and delicious. The smoked chicken salad was tasty with chicken from their smoker, although I was finding some skin which I would recommend they remove. The pork taco was very meaty with nice crisp on the edges. Looking forward to returning to try other things. read more

What can I say its a Flavor Adventure for your senses!!! I have been planning to try this place but was so busy and now I regret waiting so long... ...So the adventure begins!!! We order the following now understand everything ordered was based on average portion sizes as we thought not really knowing how gigantic some of these portions would be LOL: Guacamole con Puerco 2 orders of Pork Belly Skewers Mussels Black Cheese Fried Burger Berry Habiscus Tea Diet Coke Wifey heard we were here and asked for the following to go: Grilled Chicken Sandwich Pork Belly Skewers Dulce de Leche Mousse First out the Guacamole con Puerco we both dive in the chicharon and bacon were yummy the Guacamole was so fresh with little kick. Next out were the Mussles and first order of Pork Belly if I could of had a picture of our faces when the Pork Belly came out we both were like we should have shared one... Just a second later the second Pork Belly comes out and now we still have the Burger (eyes are exploded knowing we still haven't recieved the burger) so we dig in knowing there is a burger still on the way, I asked could you cut it in half so we could both split mind you he is eating all the mussels and Pork Belly and I have Pork Belly and the Guacamole. As we try to push though out comes the Burger and man does it scream eat me the smell, the look make you say this is why I ordered it. Let's just say that along with wife's order I ledt with an extra half order of Pork Belly and the second have of the burger because by friend said he couldn't or he would be in a food coma Hahaha!!! Well I'm back today to try the Prochetta and let's just say that was probably my Favorite plate so far, with so much more to try!!! What?!?!?! Is the raves about!!! The microwaved food?!?!?! I was so excited to come here. Then DISAPPOINTED I even drove here and had to risk my safety for it. There's no parking but street (scary area). My buddy had a burger... why... we could've got a burger anywhere. I had the porchetta (see pic). It was seriously shockingly really microwaved warmed up! No lie... THE thing about porchetta is the crispy pork skin!!! And the seasoning of course. Both missed the mark by a mile!!! Since it was microwaved the skin was chewy and SOFT... the seasoning was overpowering!!! To be, maybe, fair to them us we went on a Sunday for lunch... maybe not prime time to get it... maybe????? This place deserves some hype! My family and I went in for breakfast and ordered off the brunch menu. We got the waffles, french toast and the green chilaquiles! Everything was great, but the chilaquiles were PHENOMENAL! The salsa verde was so rich, with a depth of flavor. Honestly the best chilaquiles I've had in LB. The french toast was also noteworthy with decandent caramelized toppings and nuts, literally mouth-watering! Service was also very good and they made sure to check in with us a couple of times. It's a smaller but cute little place in the outskirts of Long Beach. I would 100% go back again to try more of their items! read more
This place is'nt in the best area it's definitely worth the stop. And you order at the counter and they bring it to you. We went during the day and we're able to enjoy our food on their outside table. I got the pork belly which was delicious. I I am a sucker for pork belly, and this was not only seasoned to perfection. It was just the right amount of crispy and softness. I dream about this pork belly. They were very cautious and also allowed me to substitute side for veggies. Thank you Yelp reviewers for leading us to this amazing find! We were visiting form the east coast and waited something away from the LB convention center. This place lived up to the great reviews. FOOD: Mussels were awesome! Smaller portion than other places. On a light meal day, I could just eat that with the bread dipped in the broth. Pork Belly Skewers were delicious, spicy and not sweet like some places. Served with delicious rice. Clam chowder!! Get this! Peach ginger tea was great. Sweet for me but tasty. Guacamole with Pork was different. Both delicious. Capped with dessert, the only photos because we forgot before. As mentioned by someone else, it's a humble place. Amazing! This is a very small hole in the wall, that manages to wow you with their amazing food. The pork belly is so melt in your mouth delicious, with exquisite flavor. Not sweet. Slightly smokey. Got the rice with chimichurri, very delicious. We also tried the guacamole with pork belly, so fresh and delicious and has red onion which I love. Just the right amount of lemon fresh. The BBQ ribs were fall off the bone delicious. Sauce was tangy and not too sweet. Fries are delicious hot and crisp. They have their smoker going right in front, so you know the meats are delicious. Also tried the pork empanada that is served with chimichurri. Stuffed with lots of juicy delicious pork. This is a Mom n Pop Shop, with the owners serving up these delicious delights with love you can taste. read more

I visited Black Pork today for the first time, after seeing all the good reviews on Yelp(a couple of bad ones too). I ordered, to go, to breakfast bacon burritos and 1 ordered of the green Chilaquiles. Overall the taste of the food was so so, the burrito's tortillas were literately soaking with oil. Not sure why they would put so much oil on the grill. Our fingers were extremely oily from holding the burritos. The taste/flavor of was Ok, but not great. However, the extremely oily tortilla made us not want to eat them completely. The green chilaquiles were ok, a bit too tangy for me. I asked for the eggs to be over-medium, but I got them well done, not good. I would not order them again if ever went back. The most discouraging part of today's visit, was the customer service. Right from the time I walked in, I got a not so good vibe. I said good morning (no other customers were there) and I got no response from the lady that was at the front counter (Vero). Through out my conversation about my order, I received nothing but nods from her. I didn't know if she was saying no or yes or maybe she did understand my questions. Not once did she smile. She did at times say a few words, but not much. She actually seemed upset for some reason. That was perception. I never got a thank you or anything at any point. When she handed my order over me, I did not get a thank you at that point either. I asked her if the salsa was in the bag and she just nodded yes. I would not recommend this place, due to the bad customer service. The food was so so, I hear that the their burgers are good, (I was thinking about trying one out, but not anymore) however, the customer service was way below my expectations. Providing good, friendly customer service is just as important as providing a good product or services to clients. Black Pork is a cool little restaurant that offers a variety of smoked meats; as well as an assortment of other delicious sounding items! While the Black Cheese Fried Burger is what lured me here, it honestly wasn't my jam! The different pictures didn't really show exactly what was on it and tho the meat had good flavor, my patty was super thick and my burger bun pretty much fell apart! The lady that served me was very nice, she saw that I barely touched my burger and offered me a replacement.. I felt bad and at first I declined but in the end I ordered the chicken salad. The stars of my meal were actually the clam chowder- they gave it to me on the house and it was surprisingly better than a lot of Seafood places that I've been to! (((Definitely order the clam chowder, it's bomb))) The chicken empanada- Great flavor profile and the crust was nice and crunchy! The smoked chicken salad was very good as well!! The balances of smoked chicken, blue cheese and the dressing came together beautifully! Okie Dokie y'all! I posted a while ago and left it with "....next time I am ordering the mussels...!!! Ba-bam! I have had dreams about when I could return and i can tell you we waited too long but dang was it memorable - again! Discùlpame Veronica y Luis (owners/chefs) we shall never wait as long agin! So we started with the Chicharrones y Guacamole as flavor-able as before with the add of the recognizable chicharrones to go with the delectable original version. Once again a savory delight with a bit-o-crunch - has a shot at being on the every time I order list! Also ventured to the mussels - could not have exceeded expectations any more than they did. Remember that the secret to great mussels is their freshness and preparation and I am talking about the "broth" that they are bathed in, each swimming across and over each other as they assume the flavor character of this broth which must come from the heavens! And the extra treat is the ability to add the provided toast that yearns to soak it up! And by the way, the presentation in the copper pot is your first indication of what is coming - enjoy and share. Next up are the Black Nachos with beef (carne asada)......crispy chips, beans, pico de gallo, some cheesy cheese a taste of quac and some sour cream. Again a classic dish to share; great to share with the less adventurous of your group as it will not dissapoint. Okie Dokie, a place can be judged by it tacos - again a staple and everyone does it differently. Here the recipe is simple, the execution is on point and the flavor profile includes some incredibly tasting shrimp. But hey, take a gander at the pic of this shrimp taco....see, your taste buds just woke up from the pic alone! Now move to the next step and ORDER A TACO! The final item is a favorite of my sons and he said it did not disappoint.... He is already thinking of who to bring to help him explore the rest of the menu. So you say, Gary, what are you yaking about? Tadaaaah: KOREAN BBQ! Yes, KBBQ is at the BP! Think thinly sliced, marinated short ribs with a side of mashed potatoes. So thin that the easiest miss is overcooking; but not here. And the sauce had you licking your fingers bite after bite. The mashed was a semi-mash style with a sprinkling of herbs and oh, I also had to order a side of the rice (add some corn kernals, some sauté and spices, and mix it all together) . One last bit/ bite was the empanada and vanilla ice cream! What a way to close the meal........ So, if you have not visited Veronica and Luis; all I can say is ya missing out! Make no mistake this small place tucked away between a dive bar and a vacant lot is ordinary. This is high-end, gourmet food, without the snobbery and prices one must usually suffer for haute cuisine. The pork belly skewers were absolutely beautiful: sweet and tender, with caramelized fat and textured mashed potatoes. Mollejas tacos arrived with lemon and a chimichurri sauce so delicious I ate it solo. Nobody wants to look at an empty copper pot, so you will just have to order the mussels yourself. You can thank me later. The beef empanadas were amazing, and arrived with two spicy green sauces that complemented the meat and pastry perfectly. read more

I've been seeing this place pop up on one of my favorite FB posts. It's just down the street from the school I work at. Stopped by before heading to a school music performance. So many delicious choices as well as a daily special. Decided on something quick and easy as I had to get back to school. Three skewers of marinated pork belly. The meat was unctuous and their rice was seasoned perfectly with some corn niblets mixed in. One skewer and I was getting full. Being the nice wife, I let my hubby have a skewer and he said that he's ready to go try more of their menu. The only disturbing part was that there was a strong odor (pot) coming from next door as well as flies near the entrance. They apologized and closed the front door. read more

Looking for lunch and found a new place to try. When looking for it. Try not to blink because you might miss it. I had to make a loop around the block because I missed it. Walked into the restaurant and wad greeted by a friendly face behind the counter. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and was also recommended the guacamole con puerco. Took my order to go, got home and unwrapped some deliciousness. The Cuban sandwich was loaded with juicy pork. They did not skimp on the meat. It was on what seemed to be a rectangle light ciabbiatta reminiscent of the bread lounge in LA. Some griddle ham and pickles added some salt and acidity to balance out the rich pork. The guac was a great recommendation also. It came with chiccharon and also seared pork belly. Pile some fresh guacamole on the chiccharon and add some meaty pork belly and it was a flavor party. I'm only showing a photo of my to-go food box because I prioritized the experience of every scrumptious morsel of what we ordered without photo interruptions. 1. Guacamole Con Puerco 2. Finally came in to try Black Pork on the Westside of the LBC & to say the food is amazing is an understatement. We ordered quite a few items on the menu bcuz we were starving & the food smelled delicious. #1 was the guacamole con puerco (that's guac & fried pork for those who aren't from CA!) and this was literally #1. You MUST stop by here just to try this & be completely blown away by something so simple. Then we had the mussels, crispy seafood, porchetta, Korean bbq short ribs, pork belly skewers, black cheese fried burger & fries. AND as if that weren't enough chocolate mousse & a cheesecake for dessert. First of all, don't judge, second of all I can't even recommend one item over the other they were all SO well done, so flavorful, perfectly executed & presented. Bonus: the couple that runs this place is SO hospitable, friendly & the love & dedication they put into this restaurant is a must see. I get the feeling that once people know how good this food is, it's going to be hard to get a seat. The pork skewers are for people that like the fat - I love the fat. All of it was tender and supple and juicy and flavorful and balanced. My friend cleaned off her plate of braised short ribs. Tender and delicious, she said. A sucker for "homemade" tortilla chips, we ordered extra after we tasted how good they were. I will come back to Long Beach just to try more on this menu. Another plus - Service. The owner took the time with us to explain the menu items as we had lots of questions! Parking was the only downside.
