I'm a little disappointed to see this location rated only 3 stars because the staff doesn't deserve that! I often order through the app and it's always ready when I arrive. Every person that works at this location is so kind and they always have the best energy. If the line is long they will send someone out to take your order at your car so it's ready when you get to the window. Three stars for the coffee. Service was absolutely awful. The girl who took our order was literally Dori from Finding Nemo. She couldn't remember an order all the way through AT ALL. She couldn't keep track of any more than one detail. It took me several minutes and attempts to order a Large Oatmilk Latte with salted caramel. That's it. And it took AT least 3 minutes JUST to order that one. Then 2 kids steamers with Oatmilk and salted caramel. She couldn't find the salted caramel, I said that always happens and the other staff just type in salted caramel. She went oh yeah. And then she said "two steamers with salted caramel?" I said yes Oatmilk. And she goes okay Oatmilk... both? YES. THEN she says does the latte have Oatmilk too? I said yes. And then she asked what size it was. OMG y'all. I had a caffeine headache and needed coffee. Never have I EVER had so much trouble ordering at Blackrock. Ever. That explains why the line was clear down the street. On a Sunday afternoon me and my son went through the drive through. There was one car ahead of me. The car in front of me had a dog. The barista was giving the dog water out of a cup and chatting with the driver. I thought the driver was waiting on her drink. The barista continued a long conversation about 7 minutes later. The drive through was long enough to have several cars illegally lined up on Vancouver Avenue but the lot was otherwise empty, they refused service at the walk up window because delivery customers "aren't our priority." If you want timely coffee deliveries at peek times or you'd prefer to avoid management that's okay with employees being condescending there are plenty of alternatives near by. Proud Mary is excellent, Starbucks and Dutch Bros aren't that much further and -- unlike Black Rock -- they value all of their customers. I won't be ordering coffee here any more, nor will I deliver for them. read more

They don't seem to have a ton of locations where I live, so if there's an issue, that is the only one. Honestly they are simply consistent. I haven't had a "bad" coffee at any of the black rocks. They have all the alternative milk options you need. Sugar isn't over the top unless you're asking for a smoothy or blended shake. Overall a very consistent drive through experience where coffee is the primary taste and everything else is secondary. This place has a drive thru for convenient coffee access on your way to work..or wherever else you are headed. I'm glad that I can hit up a place like this on my way to work. This place scores in my book because it is not Starbucks. I typically order an iced Americano with no cream or sugar. I like to taste my coffee and I'm also a fan of strong coffee. That's why I'll keep going to this place from time to time. Are they the best coffee in Portland? No, but they deliver a fine cup of coffee at a decent price. I just left there after having to wait almost ten minutes for one cup of coffee. It took them forever because they were all standing around talking about the "ugly ass old dad and his ugly wife" going on about how they "wish they'd not talk and just take their fucking coffee and go cause I don't give a fuck about them and their stupid kids". I can't even recall all of what they said and what other parts I do recall are too ugly to repeat. (Yeah, there were worse things said than what I mentioned above). I don't like the idea of paying that price for coffee, only to drive/walk away knowing more than likely, they're standing around bashing people for their looks, age, marital status. It's none of their business. They had so little consideration for other customers and looked to be most interested in flirting with the men in the line and putting down the customers that were in line ahead of me. I pulled up at 8:58PM to order a fuel- and the single barista mouthed to me through the closed window, "we're closed". I understand that people arriving at close can be a pain in the butt, and I hate being that person. But cmon, a fuel is literally a canned energy drink poured into a cup with syrup. I walked up being first time to this place and wanted to see their menu, greeted by a very pleasant, smiling and energized young lady. However the long wait, rude and unwelcoming staff, and the sad excuse of a drink that they consider coffee will not warrant another visit from me. Also... Yum! I love Black Rock. It is soooo much better than Starbucks. The drinks are good and the service is fast and friendly.

If the service was faster I would give maybe one more star. They're friendly but if you want quick and simple I wouldn't drive here, If you have time to sit for a good 5-10 mins it wouldn't be a problem. I adore this coffee spot. I have two kiddos and often have extra kids with me. The fact that I can drive through for coffee is amazing. To add to the convenience, the employees are awesome! They memorized my order, my mom's order, my kids' orders, as well as all of our names! They are efficient and make a great coffee, but more importantly are kind. This place is bringing a startling new business plan to the Portland coffee scene: great coffee served by extremely friendly people. I know, I know, it sounds insane, but it is really doing it for me! Who knew that delicious coffee with a smile would be such a hit? Much like you I'm quite accustomed to surliness and disdain from my local NE baristas, with a side of "you don't deserve my attention" thrown in for good measure; but this place is breaking that mold, and my, does is it feel nice! These ladies (and one guy that looks remarkably like Steph Curry, ahem) are the sweetest every morning, even when it's unreasonably early. They're upbeat, they're happy to be there, and they remember your name - heck, they even remember your dogs' names! And the coffee is strong and delicious. Ever since we started going here we are disappointed by every other option in a three-mile radius.
