We love love love this place. The service was amazing. Our waitress (Carly) so friendly and helpful ordering for us and our 3yr old granddaughter. We had the pesto pasta with shrimp and the chiefs dish for the evening which was a Copia fish special. Emily the 3 yr ole had pasta with butter sauce and ate a lot of it which is saying a lot for her haha. If you go, be prepared for, "we are out of this and out of that." It started with the drinks...they were out of an ingredient, but the manager explained that they had just changed the recipe for that drink (it was not good and not right). Then on to appetizers...they were out of the first two choices. Then entrees, after three attempts the manager decided to just offer up something they did have. How can you be out of hamburgers? I guess the meat is imported from the mainland. I ordered the grilled grouper with risotto. The fish and veggies were okay, but the risotto was so undercooked it was inedible. Also a bad sign, they have a whole list of canned cocktails you can order. Imagine, "I would like the $32 grilled grouper and a can of Jim Beam with soda." My advice, stay away. Go to the Surfside Sandwich shop or Island Italian; anywhere but the Black Sheep. read more

Terrible experience. I called ahead to make sure black street bistro could accommodate my family for dinner at 9:30, hostess said "YES! Come on in". As soon as we walk in the hostess tells us we have 5 minutes to order before the kitchen closes, as she's telling us this the cook walks out aggressively yelling at the hostess and us (2 adults and 2 CHILDREN) that the kitchen was f*king closed and was throwing his hands up acting like a maniac. Should actually be no stars. Service was abysmal until we called the staff out. Three people behind the bar, two servers--only 3 customers in the place and it took 10 minutes to be served and another 15 for drinks. The grouper smelled and tasted like it had gone bad and we had to send back. One $15 wine pour was barely 3 oz and another one was 6 oz. Servers didn't know the special prices and didn't offer the specials until asked. The two bills still had the returned bad fish charges and were all mixed up between parties. One dish was advertised with a side of broccoli. When I got it, there was one piece of it. I said something to the server and she said it was under the fish. It was not. She then had a side of broccoli made and brought over although by then I had sent the fish back because it Was bad. I had to go through and mark the bills with the right charges and assign them to the right parties on paper because the server couldn't figure it out. She was nice but very untrained. They were out of drinks listed on the menu. I've never been in such a poorly run place with no one in charge. To top it off, during the meal a large cockroach ran down the wall next to our table. Very disappointing. Beginning with drinks, the infused martini tasted like there was no alcohol in it. We ordered the jumbo stuffed olives as an appetizer, but received a small tray of about 10 tiny little olives with tinier pieces of some sort of white cheese and a small piece of a pepper--nothing like described in the menu. Each of our entrees (there were 5 of us) had something lacking in it. The special chili was so spicy that it was inedible. The Alfredo, while steaming hot, had no seasoning or taste. It appeared to be linguini with milk sauce. The flounder filet was pan fried to the point of toughness. The steaks were tough, even though they were cooked to order. The broccoli was undercooked, as was the risotto, and lacked seasoning. It did not resemble any risotto we had ever had before. The jumbo scallops were half their size. The menu is over priced, especially for the quality of the food. The only bright side was our server, Reagan, who asked for feedback. She took our concerns to management, but no one, either chef or manager, came to the table. We were comped our happy hour-priced wines (2) and the tiny olives appetizer. While we appreciated the gesture, it felt like our concerns were not taken seriously. The menu on the website appears alluring, but the execution falls terribly short. read more

10/10 recommend. This is a great spot. High quality vibe with high quality food and drink. We had a group of four, and we ordered a range of foods: the ribeye, little John, scallion risotto, and the grouper. For drinks we had the Liberty Cab that was a full berry flavored wine, a margarita that was the best we had on the island, and a scotch on the rocks that is always a classic. All four meals and drinks were delicious, filling, and worth the price. For dessert, we had tiramisu, creme brûlée, and crepes; all three desserts were fantastic. read more

So my boyfriend and I went to this restaurant last night. The waitress was helpful and pleasant. The menu and atmosphere were fantastic. But the food was really not very good for the price. My boyfriend ordered the cioppino which didn't look anything like the way we were used to ( everyone has their own version I understand) but this was seriously like hunts tomato sauce with mussels, crab, shrimp and clams. They usually come as a broth. The waitress removed it from our ticket. I ordered the poblano chicken breast . They must be cutting cost because my chicken was cut in half ( super thin)and overcooked, the Cajun mashed potatoes were nothing fancy. If I'm paying 24.00 for chicken you better give me the whole piece. It's 13.00 for a pack of 8 chicken breast at HEB and I know you get that from Sysco for cost. The menu looks good but the quality was pretty terrible and that's too bad because we really loved the atmosphere. This place was recommended by a good friend. We went there with high hopes for a 30th birthday celebration. We left hungry, sober and disappointed. First we want to say our waitress was a real trooper as she came back over and over to tell us what the DIDN'T have. No Ultra, no Miller, no Grey Goose, no trout, the "ribeye" was not edible. This restaurant is cute and had a nice ambiance. It's dark, sexy and there was a guy playing the guitar in the corner with a subtle yet beautiful voice. However the menu and service disappointed me. Our waitress get defensive when my mother realized she ordered the wrong thing and never apologized or offered to go order and make a new item. The waitress then proceeded to avoid our table the entire rest of the meal. The prices for this meal were outrageous for what they were. In my meal, the shrimp, it was $15 for 4 shrimp. Black sheep bistro was exceptionally disappointing. I'm quite a fan of an impressive culinary experience, and seldom will I leave reviews. The waitress that served us was nice enough, and her service was good. She brought the rating up from 1 star to 2. We received the food, my wife got scallops with risotto and I got seafood stuffed trout. My wife's scallops were chewy and overcooked. Growing up on the coast, I could tell my fish was not very fresh. After pulling bones out of my mouth for the third time I'd had enough. I shamefully spit the trout in my napkin because I couldn't get all the bones out of my mouth. I told the waitress about the bones when she came to get our plates. She was surprised and said they hadn't heard that all night. We were handed the ticket with both meals at full price. Disappointing to say the least. If you're looking for a nice meal, this is not the place to go! read more

This had got to be one of the worst restaurants I have ever stepped foot in. In my 52 years of life and dining in hundreds of restaurants the Black Sheep Bistro is in the top 3 of the dirtiest. Bugs (cockroaches may I add) are crawling around everywhere. They make the lights dark enough so you can't see your feet crunching on them. Then the pricing of their so called "delicious" food is a total waste of money. The service seemed to have forgotten they are at work and don't give a flash of smiles. COVID seems to be affecting the service as we experienced an hour wait for our appetizer. Hopefully the service will improve as the year rolls on. The Little Devils app was missing the bacon wrap and was very hot/spicy, burn your lips hot, could do with the spice but not the burn. The Cajun blackened redfish fricasse sauce was without the shrimp advertised on the menu and hardly any fricasse sauce. House Cabernet is a $6 bottle for $11. The online reservations on their website doesn't work. When I called about reservation, no one apologized or even seemed to recognize this might be a problem. Go anyway..... still no effort or acknowledgment of concern. Food? Bruschetta very good, grouper over-salted and over cooked, but not as overcooked as sea trout. Risotto, was quite good. Had anyone acknowledged the issue or inconvenience caused by the non-working system- all would have been ok. It takes so little to make a customer feel appreciated- likewise to feel abused. On New Year's Day, I decided to take my girlfriend to Black Sheep Bistro for dinner. She had been there before and strongly recommended. First of all.... The restaurant is very nice. I loved the bar area. Our bartender was very nice and attentive. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. Then it was time for dinner. For the first coarse, my girlfriend had their nutty Caesar salad which she really enjoyed. I originally wanted the smoke salmon but they were out it. Our server recommended their chefs special salmon appetizer which was very good! It was unique. For my main coarse I had their scallops risotto which was delicious. The scallops were awesome. My girlfriend had the blackened red fish which see substituted the rice with linguine. She thoroughly enjoyed it. I had a bite of it and it really good. For dessert, I had the mousse which was awesome! I have not had mousse in years and I have forgotten how good it is. My girlfriend had the tiramisu which she loved. Our server was awesome and very attentive which made our dining experience special. I strongly recommend Black Sheep Bistro. It's a very nice restaurant and very good food and service. Will be back! Just like the most recent reviews, we were looking forward to a nice dinner with yummy seafood and steaks. We liked the shrimp appetizer and the lobster crab cake. The steak was so tough; it was hard to cut much less chew. They did take it off our bill. The risotto was not risotto at all but "wet rice". It had no flavor. The scallops had burned char on them like the flat top hasn't been cleaned in a while. My Dad's fish was over cooked. The best thing we had the whole time were hand-cut fries off my 5 year old's plate. It could be so much better than it is! read more

Love this place! The price is a little high but hey it's a cozy date night spot on a touristy island so it's definitely worth the trip! Huge bar plenty of seating! I highly recommend any of the specials and always ask what the special mash is too because it generally makes the entree explode! Beef tips and gravy are my husbands go to and the chicken poblano is always a for sure win. I always try the specials! I want to like this restaurant as my family and friends are frequent patrons. However I have never had a decent meal for the price. Visited last night, ordered the Grouper with risotto specifically for the risotto as a treat breaking my "no carbs" commitment. Fish was cooked OK but missing the lemon buree blanc sauce ,the most dissapointment was when the risotto was cold sticky white rice! and my friends Apple Bourbon sauce was missing from his pork chops. Ordered the Cajun Blackened Redfish, with wild rice, seared summer squash, it was also supposed to be topped with a shrimp, but was missing and andouille sausage, which there were two minuscule slivers, fricassee. This place is good not just for the location. In North Padre Island there are not a lot of options but this place is a gem shining off the shore. The food there is not spetacular that you would drive hours to get out there for it but when you are actually in the island, you should not miss this place. Prices are not too bad. You know everything runs a little more expensive in the vacation resort place and the food there is up to the standard for such prices. We ordered the Mozzarella salad and it was good not special. The crab cake was also good. My husband's seabass was pretty good and done properly. My MIL said he lasagna was very good. I had the seafoof risotto. The seafood was good but the risotto was too greasy and I think the saffron was just too strong (God you know that seasoning is expensive!), Overall we had a really good time and the food was better than other places we have dined in on the island and I think we will go back next year when are are there. read more

Best food I had on the island. Food was delicious! Generous portions, awesome drinks, and great service. Bread is served with balsamic vinegar and Parmesan shavings. I ordered the Chicken Fried Quarter and it was the best fried chicken I've ever had. It came on a bed of mashed potatoes, and a side of brussels sprouts with bacon. Yum. Taking my family to a new experience for dinner is something we all enjoy doing, especially when it comes to vacations. We chose to eat at Black Sheep Bistro and had a fantastic experience! Upon entry you are taken back to a rustic pub style environment, and surrounded by portraits of the ocean and sea life that you can actually buy from local artists! Valerie greeted us at our table and provided insights to the enticing menu with options each of us (party of 4) discussed which item was winning our attention. We settled on two appetizers to start, and then began the struggle to choose a man course. Valerie was quite knowledgeable and took us on a tour of the menu, sharing popular dishes and her own favorites along the way. She enticed us with the daily specials (to which my wife ordered the Crab and Lobster Stuffed Flounder), my kids ordered the Scallop Risotto, and I being the lover of all things spicy had the Cajun Blackened Redfish. The appetizers came out prior to Valerie putting our meal order in, this is a sign of a fantastic server who allows the patrons time to enjoy the full experience of the Bistro. We also noticed that when we arrived seemed to be the beginning of the dinner rush. Throughout our meal we never once felt abandoned or ignored by Valerie, she was attentive and pleasant (even tho we could see how busy she was), and true testament to her grace and positivity under pressure! By the way, when providing positive feedback to the manager (Kayla), I discovered that Valerie was a new member of the BlackSheep Team, kudos to you for bringing such talent to a wonderful gem like BlackSheep!! Folks, if you eat nothing else but this, your dining experience would be complete!! Little Devils - Spicy, bacon wrapped shrimp, stuffed with jalapeños and served over avocado and red chili vinaigrette. A welcomed departure from the standard shrimp cocktail, and the shrimp are huge! Definitely something to share because a single order would be a meal! Scallops Risotto - 4 Seared Scallops on a Risotto that was flavorful and nicely portioned. My kids said it was the perfect ocean taste to the location. Creamy and seasoned perfectly! Crab & Lobster Stuffed Flounder - Beautiful pieces of flounder stuffed full of the Lobster & Crab used for the cake mentioned earlier, so just imagine heaven with perfectly cooked Flounder with an exquisite Lemon/Dill Beurre Blanc! Cajun Blackened Redfish - Hat off to the chef, my Redfish was as if I had been transported to a family cookout in Louisiana! The seasoning was superb and the fish cooked perfectly! Shrimp & Andouille Fricassee topped this dish with a lovely fresh crunch of Seared Squash over a Long Grain Rice Pilaf! Every bite was tantalizing and everything you'd want in a Cajun dish!! We stopped going to Black Sheep a few years ago, but heard they had a new chef & menu. The present chef is great and prepares & presents everything in an interesting and appealing way. Our party of three ordered two of the specials that day (a Thursday) which were scallops with Asian rice noodles and I had duck liver on a bed of a mix of mashed and fried cubed potatoes. Our guest was from way out of town (Switzerland) so we recommended the Blackened Red Fish-big hit! We all loved every part of our meal and vowed to return soon and often.
