I wanted to love this place because it's close to my home and I love supporting local establishments. Went here for a date with my wife and the server, Lexus, was great. All the staff we met were really good. So, goes without saying I feel bad leaving this review, but I rely on Yelp for recommendations, so I have to. The food was genuinely bad. We ordered French onion soup which arrived lukewarm. The croutons inside were hard. Not crunchy, just stale tasting and hard. I took one bite and realized the cheese on top was actually cold and not melted either. I went back in for onions but got another rock hard cruton. Set it aside to be sent back. The Brussel sprouts were good. No complaints. Steak tartare was bathed in some sort of ketchup-tasting sauce that completely overpowered the other flavors. We ate most of it because we were hungry but I wouldn't recommend it. We ended up canceling our entrees and left. The manager was apologetic and again- I genuinely feel terrible leaving this review. That said, there are so many really good places nearby that it would be unfair for me to sweep this awful food experience under the rug. read more

Also the chipotle sauce that came with it lacked flavors Chicken wings. - would've given 4/5 but I'll settle on 3/5. The flavors were great, crispness was there, sauce was just right. I was expecting so much more of this restaurant based on the reviews and I found it to be underwhelming and too expensive for the quality of the meals. The look and feel of the interior was an attempt to pretty what looked like an older diner format. They had the older tufted fake leather benches along the wall in a color that was an eyesore. They also used the style of divider between the kitchen and dining areas that was a remnant from the classic diner layout. The service was very good. Their team definitely elevated the dining experience. They were quick to greet us and checked in as needed during our meal. We ordered the steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The steak was fairly bland and relied on the steak sauce to spice things up. I wasn't a fan of the steak sauce, so the combination of the no flavor steak, whipped mashed potatoes and a tasty set of asparagus was the main part of my meal. Not only was the food amazing, but our waiter Lupe--along with the rest of the team--went above and beyond to make the evening special. We started with a perfectly crafted Espresso Martini, a refreshing Hazy IPA, and a smooth Vieux Carré, plus a rich, flavorful French Onion Soup and a fresh 1/2 dozen Fanny Bay Oysters. For entrées, the Mussels and Clams were outstanding, the Truffle Parmesan Cheese Fries were indulgent and delicious, the Braised Short Ribs were melt-in-your-mouth tender, the Linguine Seafood Pasta was loaded with fresh seafood, and even the Chicken Sandwich was a standout--juicy and packed with flavor. Everything from the pacing of the meal to the warm, attentive service made the night memorable. Black Sheep Brasserie has truly mastered the balance of exceptional food and top-notch hospitality. Decided to try on a Friday night, made reservations online was about to get a table right away. We were seated right away and the waiter made some great food suggestions, especially since I'm a pescatarian. We started off with some a raw oysters, beef tartare and pate for my partner. It was tasty and well presented. Great selection of wine and whiskey choices. I had the '22 Pinot Noir Cotiere wine and now it's one of my favorites, great balance for any dishes. My partner had the Japanese whiskey, always the perfect smoothness. Being pescatarian and eating no oils was always a challenge when dining outdoors. However, the chef was about to prepare a grill salmon over grilled vegetables for me. It was so tasty. My partner had the ribeye and lamb racks, and it's well seasoned-cooked a perfectly medium rare. Desserts: We shared the freshest berry bread pudding topped with white chocolate and vanilla ice cream scoop. Delicious finishing. This place is one of my favorite place now. read more

The ambiance is modern and nice and the service was fine. I have not been here in awhile so I expected to get the same quality of food as my previous visits however that was not the case. We ordered the Short Ribs with Mushroom Risotto and a Rack of Lamb which both arrived looking very appetizing. The short ribs were cooked to perfection and were soft and moist but lacked flavor as well as the mushroom risotto. The lamb was the same. It was cooked well but it just was not up to par. Since moving to WG, I've had this place bookmarked for a while. I finally found the opportunity to come for dinner and drinks with some friends on a Wednesday evening. We made a reservation for 4, but that was unnecessary as the restaurant was completely empty. Kinda shocking for DTWG, but maybe times have changed? I sadly will not return and do not recommend this restaurant. The ambiance is nice and gives off vibes that this is a fine dining establishment. The food and service, however, says otherwise. I ordered the Linguine Seafood Pasta ($33) for my entree and it was a huge disappointment as it had absolutely no flavor. Preggo/Ragu sauce would've done this dish wonders. Also, out of all the mussels & clams that came with the dish, only 25% had actual meat to them. The other 75% were empty shells. I don't recommend that linguine at all. I did enjoy the Russet Potato Gnocchi ($20), but feel like the portion could've been more generous. There were 8 gnocchis total. PSA - Check your bill upon paying. We arrived at 5PM just in time for "Happy Hour" where we were supposed to get $2 off cocktails. We ordered 3 cocktails to start and none of them received the Happy Hour discount. My fiancé paid the bill and never looks it over upon paying so it's on us, but don't let us be you. Note, my fiancé ordered a Dirty Martini ($21.50) and it was served in a non-martini glass. Also, no one even acknowledged that we were leaving. I don't care about that kind of stuff, but I do notice. I've been here once before, but it was years ago, so I was excited to check it out again and see how it changed. This restaurant shares space with Stacks, a breakfast restaurant. It has a small parking lot on the side of the building, so we had no problem parking. We were greeted immediately upon entering and had our pick of tables, as the restaurant was not yet full. Service here was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. We were served our starters quickly but then had a long wait between starters and entrees. We were very disappointed in the wine list as the bottles were way overpriced and the by-the-glass options were uninspired, with a focus on Gilroy wines. Lucky for us, the cocktails were creative and excellent. We ordered a wedge salad. It came with cherries and tomatoes with ranch dressing and an overcooked hard-boiled egg. It was an interesting and non-traditional take on the classic salad, however, the blue cheese dressing from the classic recipe was sorely missed. I ordered the Grill Focaccia Salad, and it was good, with a light and slightly sweet dressing. Our entrees consisted of the Braised Short Ribs (which came with a heaping pile of mushroom risotto) and the Seared Duck Breast. Both entrees were delicious. Will we be back? I'm on the fence about that. It's a bit pricey for a restaurant that is less than stellar. read more

This is a cute brunch spot that is two restaurants is one area. Morning is Stacks and evening is Black Sheep Brasserie. We had brunch with Stacks. We walked in without a reservation and were seated within 5 min because there was a family waiting in front of ours. Host was fast and friendly. Our waiter was also quick to take our drink orders because coffee is very important in the morning. Stacks is known for the very generous portions and this location did not disappoint. We ordered the Nutella latte, banana and strawberry smoothie, banana french toast, sausage and mushroom skillet, and eggs Benedict. The drinks were great, can't complain. The French toast was ginormous and great for kids. The sausage and mushroom skillet was the best because I ended up having to share the dish. The eggs Benedict had larger than usual slices of Canadian ham. The eggs Benedict looked delicious but unfortunately the biscuit and ham were dry and the poached eggs were overdone. The hollandaise sauce saved it from being completely dismissed. Overall, we had a good experience. Staff was quick and friendly, and most of the items we ordered were quite good. The Benedict was probably an off day for the restaurant crew. read more

IMHO Good food, nice server, slow service. Our starters included a dozen Miyagi oysters ($46), House made Focaccia ($6), Duck Liver Pate ($17), and Beet salad ($17), and Butternut Squash soup $$14. The guys enjoyed their oysters. The focaccia was super flavorful and yummy. I liked the liver pate, but I felt it should've been softer to cut and spread on the tiny pieces of crostini. Beet salad was good but needed more goat cheese for my liking. Our entrees were the Duck breast ($49), Mussels & Clams ($30), Halibut special ($39), and the BSB Double burger w/Truffle fries ($25). No complaints here, except for the truffle fries. They were over fried and crunchy. I like a softer fry to bite into. I left a majority of the fries uneaten. These "truffle" fries didn't taste any different than regular fries, so I don't understand the truffle part of it. For dessert, we opted for the Chocolate Mousse ($13), and the Vanilla Panna Cotta ($13). The chocolate mousse was served in a small brandy snifter...the ratio of mousse to whipping cream was ridiculous. If you're going to advertise a chocolate mousse, the snifter should be filled 3/4 full with 1/4 whipped cream topping, not the other way around. This was my first panna cotta, and the portion was more equitable than the mousse. I didn't taste any vanilla, but it was okay. Service was slow due to the fact that our server was responsible for our whole room. Not her fault. Pluses: there is a dedicated parking lot for patrons. I've come here before several months ago. The food was good, and the service was up to par hence why I chose to come back here for a special occasion. We got here a little earlier for your typical dinner. The ambiance was good. Servers bustling about, and patrons chatting. The volume of the place was comfortable. The food: overall, the food was good, not great. I wasn't blown away but I was pleased ultimately. We got the focaccia, duck liver, duck, and pork chops. Everything was up to par. The duck was a bit overcooked but it's not uncommon for it to come out a little more done than requested. The star of the show was the duck liver. The mustard, onions, jam, and liver really came together in a lovely way. Well done on the pairings. Service was great. Our goal with this visit was to be able to sit down for a meal without being rushed and we were able to. Great service with the entire staff helping out and our server coordinating things masterfully. A lot of places in the bay love to rush folks, here wasn't the case. Well done! Overall, the food was good, and service was great. They've changed the menu so a lot of the items on Yelp are no longer available (beignet,manresa bread, etc). Utterly Disappointing, happy hour may be the only reason to come to this restaurant. The servers are kind, but overall service was a bit slow, especially how long the food took to come out considering how few people were in the restaurant, I would hate to come here while it was busy. I will admit the cocktails were a saving grace for the experience, because everything else left me utterly dissatisfied. Ordering steak tartar at a restaurant like this shouldn't leave me feeling like I ate leftover ground beef soaked in ketchup overnight. I ordered a nearly fifty dollar pork chop, and I ended up with one of the most disappointing collection of cooked(?) foods I have ever eaten. Cold potatoes and broccolini, and a pork chop that would have been passable for half the price. The potatoes were lazily mashed with old bacon bits inside, not horrible, but tasted like something out of the frozen isle. The broccolini had an extremely tasty oil it was tossed in, but when you bite into it, it was like they were trying to knockout my teeth. The Pork chop wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't 50 dollars. The crust was good, and the chop was brined well, but that was it, it was overall too salty, with an extra kick of a saltier sauce, with a decent processed apple sauce-esque garnish. The food was created with a lot of care, and the cooks are surely doing the best with the parameters they are given, but whoever sets the prices is woefully greedy, and sucking unsuspecting families dry for food that really just funds the bar. If you live in the area and want a nice place to get a drink and some happy hour food with some nice music, this is the place for you, but don't ever make the mistake that this is an elevated French brasserie with a California twist, it is a very nice bar that happens to serve food with some modern French inspiration. read more

They've put up some impressive stats, including several Zagat recommendations and multiple "Best of" awards by local publications The Metro & San José Mercury News. With all those awards, why did it take me--the towniest of townies--so long to come try them? Who knows? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The Good: *Fantastic service that's almost on-par with the type of service you'd get at a Michelin-starred eatery. *Pet-friendly outdoor space w/ heaters *Great drink menu with some creative and tasty libations *Manresa baguette is a must-order--especially if you order the scallops but more on that in a second. *Pan-Seared Hokkaido Scallops were utterly fantastic. Great sear on the scallops, which were fresh and delicious, and the concomitant sauce was set, spicy, and so moreish--note this is where the baguette comes in handy to sop up the rest of the sauce. *The Crispy Skin Salmon was just as advertised, and cooked perfectly. The accompanying veggies were a bit on the boring side, but overall, the dish was good, and one can't ever turn their nose at perfectly cooked fish. *Passionfruit Panna Cotta was also fantastic and had the Passionfruit flavor so perfectly that it made me think I was back in Maui. You know the tartness that hits you in the back of your mouth but hurts so goooood... *drool* The Meh: *Reservations via their website only *The pork chop was just OK, but it was slightly overcooked and seemed like a low-grade cut as it was filled with gristle and fat. It's not worth the $$ imo. Soft pass. *Dark Chocolate Pot de Créme was just OK and there was nothing to write home about. The flavor was OK, but nothing special, and the texture was a bit too firm Nowhere near as good as the one from literally right across the street. #IYKYK The Ugly: *Parking along Lincoln Ave can be a bit of a hassle. It's been a while since the last time I visited Black sheep Brasserie - and I swear it's better than I remembered! Service was friendly and attentive, with each dish properly coursed out and brought out in a timely manner. The cocktail menu is creative, with festive names for the holidays. I had the "Fall Spice and Everything Nice" and "Pa RumPumPum Milk Punch". Both were well balanced in terms of taste, and not overly sweet or spirit forward. The clarified milk punch had a wonderful creamy texture and the spice notes really come through The hamachi crudo was just OK. I usually LOVE hamachi crudo, but unfortunately this one did not impress. The hamachi was fishy, and did not taste fresh. However - I was thoroughly blown away by the duck! I had the 38 North Duck which is a pan seared duck breast and confit leg. I didn't have high expectations, but this dish was excellently prepared. The breast was tender and moist, flavorful, and the confit leg literally fell off the bone. I highly recommend! My dining companion had the BSB burger and loved it, saying it was a good portion and had good flavor. read more

We were regulars here for years, and loved the staff, the food, and the vibe. We had not been since the ownership change, and finally went this past weekend. I am sad to report that it just wasn't as good. The menu changes they made were not good. Most of our favorite items are gone. The place was empty on a Friday night. This is concerning. The new staff is polite, but the whole feel is different. The focaccia was fine, but I miss the Manresa Baguette. The special lobster bisque was not great - very fishy tasting. The garlic shrimp appetizer tasted like it had meat it in. I did not like it. My partner enjoyed his salmon just fine. (Overhearing some nearby tables' interactions w one another and the wait staff was like live entertainment ) Drinks were much more well balanced compared to Braise down the street and the draft beer list was better as well. Appetizers: Wild Mushroom Bisque was decadent, Brussels sprouts were cooked perfectly -- browned crispily on the outside and not too raw or soggy on the inside. Savory panna cotta was innovative. Charcuterie board was ok, star of this platter was definitely the duck liver mousse. Entrées: Cast Iron Seared 38 North Duck Breast meat was cooked excellently, but the fat and skin could have been finished crispier and longer for more of the fat flavor to lock into the meat. Marin Sun Farma Heritage 13 oz. Pork Chop was good but you could tell the pork itself was an older pig, and thus the meat could've been more tender if it was younger. The brown butter spaetzle was a delicious side accompaniment. Dessert: The house Buttermilk Beignets were very good. The Maple-Calvados Caramel sauce is made in-house and was a star dipping sauce as it was so flavorful, not just a saccharine corn syrup bomb like most mass-produced ones. Very well done! My friend and I came here to celebrate her birthday! We wanted to find a fancy place to dress up at. First impression, the place is very nice from the entrance doorway to the candles on each table. Throughout the dinner the service was INCREDIBLE! Best service I've experienced, especially wiping down the table between the appetizer and main entree. For the service itself, it deserves a 7/5 stars. As for the food I unfortunately cannot say the same. The moules frites and onion soup disappointed me in flavor. We ordered lamb and filet mignon. My bf and I came here for a NYE dinner in 2022. We were looking for nice places to eat at and this still had reservations open that night. There was an NYE menu for that night -- $100 per person for a 3 course dinner, extra costed a little more. We got the pork ragu and horseradish panna cotta, added oysters and beef tartare. The panna cottta was the best, which I thought I would hate bc I dont like horseradish. But the flavor was so subtle and paired perfectly with the salty pop of roe and crispy potato chip. All the other appetizers were average. For entree, both got the surf n turf, which was a king crab leg and ny strip steak. I did not really enjoy any of them. the crab leg was smaller than the ones you get at buffets... steak was whatever, a bit salty. The desserts were definitely a highlight. The mille-feuille had layers and layers of crispy flakey dough, sandwiched between decadent chocolate and vanilla. The beignets were yummy, but I fell in love with their house-made maple caramel dipping sauce. we also got drinks: the fall spice and the French 51. I dont remember much of the except the French 51 was pretty strong! The service was great, despite the busy evening. My boyfriend asked for the panna cotta, and they said they ran out -- but they were somehow able to find one last one for him. since it was nye, it was dimly lit and there were people coming in for drinks, it was sort of loud most of the time. If it was a special occasion so I decided to give this restaurant a try. The service was attentive, and the waitstaff was very friendly. The dish that stood out was the lamb. In my opinion, it was the most the star of the night. My date preferred the scallops they were just as good, but I'll always choose meat over seafood . The interior was beautifully decorated. It was simplistic and refined. loved, they had the black sheep on everywine glass, which makes the establishment stand out. We always come here for dinner when there's a special occasion or if we want a nicer place to eat for the weekend! I recently brought my aunt's family here and they really enjoyed it. I always get the mussels and frites which is the perfection amount and the mussels are always huge! The duck is also my favorite but the portion is really small and they keep increasing the price which isn't really worthwhile since it's like two pieces of duck. For appetizers, we always get the oysters which are so fresh and the Manresa baguette which comes with the best whipped butter! We tried the charcuterie board this time around and it was decent, definitely needed more bread to complement the amount of cheese. For dessert, definitely get the bread pudding and the beignets!! The bread pudding is like crispy on the outside and has Berry compote swirled inside + topped with vanilla ice cream and fresh whip. The beignets come with the BEST bourbon caramel sauce that I could literally eat straight up. The service is usually pretty good but this time around our server was a little cold and didn't seem very personable. Kind of just did the bare minimum and didn't really interact with us. The hostess however was super accommodating and sweet! Ambiance is always great for dinner! Not stiff and love the natural light that comes through. Will definitely come again. read more

Not the most creative menu ever but they generally execute well. I pretty much loved everybody I ordered. Cheese stuffed fried olives: if you like olives those is for you. So good and you don't really find fried olives anywhere. French onion soup: par for the course. Lots of cheese. Gnocchi: ok this was my least favorite dish of the night. It was solid but could be better. In my opinion, the gnocchi could be softer. They were all pretty firm. Crispy skin salmon: this was amazing. Flavors were good and don't override the salmon. The salmon itself was also wonderfully cooked. It basically melts in your mouth. It's so tender that when you try to cut it with your knife, it just breaks apart. Came to celebrate my hubby's birthday.  Expensive but worthwhile for the special occasion.The atmosphere is casual and classy.  All the food was delicious. Cheese stuffed fried olives - a great new twist to elevate olives to a higher level.  Excellent choice Duck liver mousse with jam on house made bread - reminds me of France, it was very good. Burnt french onion soup - loads of cheese and big croutons.  Very heavy, as it should be. Pork chop - solid meat with complimenting veggies and sauces. Duck breast - crispy skin is a nice touch; the portions do not look like much but actually I could only eat half the plate.  I thought it was better than the pork chop. Cider - not on the menu, only $6, bubbly with a bit of tang.  I liked it. read more

We have been coming to this restaurant for three years and I'm so grateful that we live only 3 minutes away from this gem. The food is absolutely excellent. My kids usually order the burger, filet mignon or chicken. My husband usually does the fish and I tend to get whatever is braised .its sooooo good and always lovely service today Leon served us and it made me think it's about time I wrote a review about one of our favorite restaurants.
