Everything I have eaten in this cute little place has been very good. The coffee is great. I was a little disappointed with the waffle the other day. Just please be careful to offer to warm up the waffle or do not serve ones which are not too fresh. Service is very good too!

Cute little cafe on 24th - very close to the Freehand hotel, where I was staying. I popped down there in the morning to grab a breakfast sandwich and some treats for us for later in the day. The siracha egg sandwich was tasty, but next time I would definitely ask for it on a bagel. The bun was light and fluffy but didn't offer a lot of flavor. The tea selection was good, there were three donuts to choose from (I went with the confetti!), and there were a variety of other pastries. My friend really liked the lemon poppyseed muffin and my donut was very good. The seating inside is limited to about 4-6 people, but there were a few outdoor options. Not the most picturesque street (lots of scaffolding on surrounding buildings right now) - but I'm sure w/o that it would be a lovely little place to spend the morning.

Excellent Chai tea latte! Great place to casually catch up with friends outside or inside. They have seating inside and outside. Staff have always been friendly! I've tried a variety of their pastries! They have savory and sweet. I'm more of a sweet than savory person. Here's what I recommend ordering that you won't regret. - The pistachio Muffin, if you love pistachio. This is for you! The muffin is moist but strong in pistachio flavors! - Almond croissant, The cake donuts are cute, but inconsistent from dry to moist.

Coffee & pastries? Yes, please. This little gem has such delicious pastries and desserts, and a great selection of coffee options. The cinnamon churro scone was so good. And nothing like an iced almond milk latte to refresh & energize. My friend had the salted caramel iced latte and said it was delicious. I can't wait to go back and try their sriracha egg & cheese . sandwich. I firmly believe sriracha makes everything taste better so I must go back and confirm this. Also, to try more pastries...or doughnuts, or the muffins, or the cake pops, or the cookies...or the apple brie croissant! They have all the non-dairy milk options. Plus - almond and oat creamer as well as honey, sugars, and simple syrup etc. if you like to fix your coffee to your liking. I found my almond milk latte the perfect sweetness & didn't sneed anything added to it. I also like that it has both a small inside and outside seating area. The outside was cute with flowers in planters.

Cute little cafe! Tons of food options, I got the breakfast burrito which was really delicious. Coffee is great as well. The cafe is quite small with minimal seating though I was still able to enjoy my food there. They have a good pastry selection as well. I will surely be back soon!

One of my favorite places to get an iced chai latte! They also have delicious croissants. Very quick and friendly service. It's a pretty small cafe so getting a seat is not always promised.

I love Black Star cafe and whenever I'm in the gramercy area I make sure to stop by, not for their coffee (which is great) but for their food. Their breakfast burrito is simple but delicious, but I think my favorite thing to grab their is their turkey and Swiss croissant. While it's a cafe with little to no seating, the food is super good and they have a wide assortment of sweet and savory pastries for you to nibble on. I absolutely recommend this place!

I really enjoyed this iced mocha! Very good amount of sweet to bitter. I probably would not study here since the inside is very small with limited seats, but I do want to come back to try the pastries!

I really need to cast aside preconceived notions I have about multi-loc eateries being soulless, flavorless places because Black Star Bakery is anything but. They seem to be thriving despite opening this Gramercy location in the midst of a pandemic, and it's no surprise their array of pastries, delicious breakfast sandwiches, and Oslo coffee brings customers back to their airy, plant-filled space. People need their coffee in a cute environment after all, pandemic be damned. They're carefully following CDC guidelines by enforcing mask usage among staff and patrons, limiting occupancy inside at any given time, installing a hand sanitizer station, and having contactless payment available. They have a couple of tables outside under a huge patio umbrella so you can stay dry and shaded while satisfying your caffeine fix. Under this umbrella I enjoyed an admittedly overly sweet iced chai latte, which I viewed more as a dessert than a vehicle for caffeine. I was so pleasantly surprised by my breakfast burrito, which had the perfect ratio of cheese, eggs, avocado, sprouts, and sriracha mayo. $9.99 felt appropriately priced for the area, and adding lox to the burrito was only $3.50 extra-- that's less than even a bagel shop would charge, and the bagel shop wouldn't even be cute inside. The burrito itself is pretty sizeable and left me feeling pretty sated for the rest of the day. Separately I've tried the Avocado Trip, which is an avocado, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich that comes on a nice pillowy croissant--my preferred breakfast sandwich bread. There's been so much turnover for businesses at this location over the years, but I have a feeling the foot traffic this cafe has been bringing to this block will break the curse. Long live Gramercy's Black Star Bakery!

Really good & satisfying breakfast burrito. Coffee is okay nothing to be crazy about. The staff is friendly. The place is also cute.

This place may not seem like THE coffee shop but IT IS. I have been frequenting this location since I came to NYC and it has been unmatched so far! The croissants, the coffee, the service, everything is as I could dream. Churro croissant is a MUSTT. I would sprint in front of all the crazy taxi cabs to get it.

We got the Banter Bowl, which includes pickled carrot, cabbage, watermelon radish, cucumber, edamame, avocado, quinoa, and miso ponzu dressing. You have a choice of meats, so we chose the grilled chicken. Second, we ordered the falafel bowl that includes three falafels, pickled onions, avocado, cucumber, whipped garlic feta, kale salad, romesco, and Za'atar dressing that had a delicious flavor. However, our ultimate favorite had to be the Thai Crunch Wrap with sweet potato fries. It was fairly busy, and our drinks took a while to come, but the food arrived shortly after. The next time I'm back, I will be sure to reorder the Thai crunch wrap. If you have food allergies, they are extremely accommodating and have numerous vegan/vegetarian/GF.

Think vintage wallpaper, little knick-knacks, and warm lighting. It's got character. I ordered the market salad with mixed greens, honeycrisp apples, goat cheese, candied pecans, and sherry vinaigrette. It was a hearty portion - super fresh and flavorful, and honestly more than I could finish (not a complaint!). I also ordered a Diet Pepsi with grenadine; they don't carry Diet Coke, which I almost docked a point for, but the mix was unexpectedly delicious. Highly recommend it. My date ordered the hanger steak and said it was absolutely amazing. Only hiccup: his first glass of wine he got came out hot... like, microwave-level warm. Fortunately, the server brought a new (cold) one and the rest of the meal was smooth sailing. Service was friendly, the vibe was homey and relaxed, and the food was solid across the board. Would definitely come back, especially for that salad and another round of grenadine magic.

It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he asked us if we had any allergies when he took our order. He came by several times to check on us and refill water. I would return to Friedman's when I'm in the Herald Square area, or check out one of their other locations in the city.
