Stopped by for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon as I was making my way down to the park. Very unassuming from the outside but the tables full of customers outside made me want to check it out. It's a very nice alternative to the corporate coffee shops nearby. They not only have a selection of hot & cold drinks but they also have fresh pastries and sandwiches. I opted for the quiche Lorraine (bacon not ham) and a frappe. I was pleased with the service and the food. The quiche was light and flavorful with a good crust. I love love love newsbar so much. Their iced vanilla latte with oat milk is the best coffee I've ever had. Their ratios are perfect. On top of that, their sandwiches and pastries are so fulfilling. I always go for the prosciutto goat cheese and jam sandwich, or one of their baguette sandwiches, and each time it hits. Everyone who works there is really kind and speedy. It gets pretty busy around lunch, but they are consistent and always get things going. If you are looking for a place to work, this might not really be the best place for a long-term focus session. Came in on a Thursday at 2pm. It's in a busy area so it gets a lot of foot traffic in and out. It did feel overly crowded. The staff were professional and friendly in the midst of the craziness. There was no problem grabbing a space though. Keeping to the theme of not best for long-term focus, the wifi limit is for 1 hour and my cups kept spilling. I spent more time trying to fix the lid of cup and keep it from spilling on my electronics than actually working. The food is good. Manhattan prices. I had an avocado toast. Interior is really nice, there's a variety of tables to accommodate different group sizes. I came here with 3 other people and we had a lovely time talking and such. It's also warm which is a bonus because I came here on a super cold day. Staff was very friendly and the food/drinks came relatively quickly. I only gave 4 stars because the food prices are quite high for what you're getting. For example I ordered the avocado toast which was like $7 but the bread was tiny, I think it was a full sized piece of bread cut into halves. This cafe is easy to overlook, but I'm glad I have rediscovered it after all of these years. It can be a bit overwhelming considering how busy it can get. I did manage to spend an hour doing some remote work here a few weeks back. It's a bit pricey but I can't say the prices are not in line with the area. The good and bad thing about working here is that you have a time limit. This means that they can have a quick turnover to open up the space, but then that also means you may have to continue buying more coffee and/or pastries to extend your time. I did really enjoy my Chai but I raised an eyebrow at the bagel prices. Will most likely return. read more

As I'm sure you can see Jan takes it upon himself to attack customers who give him poor reviews. Very rude and unprofessional. Claims he didn't cancel my order after I called and asked why my delivery was taking so long. My delivery driver had been there for more than 30 min and they told him my food wasn't ready. Jan told me my food wasn't ready. As soon as I hang up, my order is mysteriously cancelled. I called the restaurant, Jan claims he didn't cancel my order and my delivery driver never showed up and that my order has been ready despite having JUST TOLD ME MY FOOD WASN'T ready. My delivery driver was also told my food wasn't ready despite Jan claiming he never showed up. Jan also claims that my driver cancelled the order even though seamless clearly states the restaurant did. This dude is a total liar. Food is good, jan not so much. Walked by this spot and first thing that caught my eye was the billboard sign outside and the brunch food pictures on the walls. Got me drooling at the pictures! You pick a seat, go up to the bar area to place your order, pay then wait at your seat for them to come by with the food and call your name. You pick up your drink order though, they don't bring it to you. When you are done you clean up after yourself, place the dirty plates and utensils in a bin. Stumbled by during a snow storm, as News Bar Cafe was one of the only places open. While the place itself was on the small side, it was warm and inviting, which was all that I needed during that time (including a bathroom, thank goodness!). The menu was quite extensive, filled with healthy and wholesome options at very reasonable prices. My partner ordered the Avocado Toast, topped with a perfectly runny egg and fresh tomatoes. I had the Brown Rice Bowl - while it definitely felt healthy, it was really lacking in flavor. The only thing that saved it was the za'atar, which provided a much needed kick. Overall the environment was cute and cozy, filled with city slickers reading, friends socializing, and NYU students clicking away on their laptops. I'm glad to have found this spot, I'd come back and try something different on the menu. read more
