We have been going there for years. We took some very special friends there lately. We have found it is a HIT OR MISS, more MISS in the past few years and we will NOT be eating there again. With the prices they charge, it should be right. More then not they over cook the steak or it is NOT tender. Three out of 4 of the steaks we ordered medium rare were not even close to being cooked that way. One of the plates was over $40 and the manager did nothing. She did not take care of us as she should have. I only give a two star because the waitress was very nice. ONE star at the best. Don't waist you money. Husband and I decided into try this place with my father in law after an impromptu google search. We both had the cowboy club steak. Both of us asked for medium and mine was definitely more medium well and was super tough to cut through. Still ate it because I hate being the person to send food back unless it's catastrophic. I got the blue cheese cream sauce which tasted fine but was thick and solidified over my steak quickly. Could be because they forgot to actually put it on my steak so I ended up getting it on the side. I also got a side of broccoli with it and I appreciate they actually gave me a good amount of vegetables. The staff was friendly and attentive, but the waitress got into her groove while clearing our table and took my father in laws cocktail before he was finished with it. The servers were pleasant though and the place is nicely decorated and not too noisy. The whole experience was a bit bland and we all agreed we could have gone to Texas Roadhouse for the same experience. read more

This was our third and final visit. We have never been treated like the heterosexual couples around us. Tonight was so blatant that we left. There were three couples waiting. First straight couple comes in and they seat them in a booth up front. Next, we, the gay couple, get seated in the back area between two dirty tables. Not a single other person in the back area so we assumed the front was full. Then we wait for the third couple, also straight, to sit in back area next to us. But no!!! The hostess asks if they want a booth and we were so shocked as she led them to the front of the restaurant. When we asked why we were not offered to sit up front it was supposedly "a rotation" thing. Then we asked for a booth and her offer was to clean one of the ones in back. We were quite disappointed with our experience here from the minute we walked through the door. First of all, there is no greeter or front desk so that feels awkward. Our waitress was kind and friendly, but was not very attentive. We had to send two of our three steaks back because one was undercooked and one was overcooked. By the time we received the second steak, everyone else was finished eating so I wasn't even hungry anymore, ot to mention it was very tough and chewy. Since this place specializes in steaks, I would expect that they would know how to cook them properly. Lots of gristle. Good seasoning, but hard to eat. Always been a favorite place of ours the service was fantastic food quality was great and I love what they've done with the inside and they seem to always be doing something even if it's just small to kind of update it and make it look more cozy. read more

"Best steak I've ever had" - me, last night. It's a steakhouse, and the Pepper Steak is one of their most affordable steaks, so I gave it a try. What I got was a perfect cut of meat cooked exactly how I wanted. And while there are better (to me) ways to season a steak, the quality and the preparation left absolutely nothing to be desired. My side, a baked potato, was a nice thin-skinned red potato cooked until the inside was super soft. It was absolutely delicious with just butter. (I tried adding sour cream but it didn't taste as good that way.) My wife had a chicken-fried steak and was really impressed with the quality. Lots less expensive than Loveland Chop Hohse steaks...but a little more ambient noise. We had a family dinner at the Black Steer this week. We've eaten here several times in the past. I had a chicken fried chicken & everyone else had steak in one form or another. Salads were fresh and tasty All the food was good. The outstanding part of our dinner was our server. She was funny and never said no to any of our requests. The Black Steer was just what we hoped it would be for a Saturday night outing: Old school cool without being pretentious. This restaurant surprised us by being rooted in good, casual service decent pours of their drinks and good steaks - we all were pleasantly surprised how good, tender and big our cuts were. Went here for my 25th birthday with my husband and every dish we ordered came out warm, not fresh and hot but like it was sitting out for a while. We also sat without refills on our drinks for the majority of our dinner until we flagged down another waitress to please find ours. We told our waitress that the food wasn't great and that we were going to take it home so our dogs could eat it, so someone would atleast enjoy it she didn't say anything at all, didn't offer to fix anything. When I emailed the owner about some type of refund, she told me I was essentially a liar and scam artist because they didn't have anyone complain that night, even though she admitted to not being in the restaurant. She offered a free drink if (her exact words) "we ever care to come back". I'm pregnant so a free alcoholic beverage isn't appealing to me. The server, or hostess, also didn't acknowledge my birthday at all, even though it was noted in the reservation. I just don't think she was very excited to be at work that night. Overall, disappointing experience and it sucks we had to spend over $150 to find out this restaurant isn't the best. Only gave two stars because the restaurant itself is decorated very nicely. read more

I have eaten at the Black Steer many times. They have a variety of dishes which I like. Some of my favorites include peppered steak, fettuccine Alfredo, the lobster and fish and chips. The house salad with chex is yummy. The wait staff are friendly and I like the western decor. Definitely plan on returning! read more

Had driven by this place dozens of times thinking we give it a try and not really taking the time to look up what kind of place it was. I mean you kinda know by the name although still not sure if it's fast, sit down, BBQ, Burgers or what. Well we were pleasantly surprised to find a nice place inside, decorated with western theme. Nice bar and dining area. Good menu with reasonable prices. Good service. We just had burgers and fries but pretty good burger, thick and delicious with real deal bacon, nice bun and really good fries. And a homemade coconut cream pie worth the trip. Homemade crust. We'll be back to try more things. Looking forward to the fish and chips. This is an update from one year ago. This place is a Loveland tradition. It has been here for many years and is really an experience. The inside is totally done in western motif and it is really cool. The service this evening was excellent. Our waitress was on top of everything and very helpful. We started off with a bowl of French onion soup. It wasn't very hot, and the onions were large and still crispy. It had a generous amount of cheese on top of a crouton. This was just OK. My husband ordered the filet mignon tonight, wrapped in bacon. He asked for medium rare. It was more towards the medium side but he enjoyed it anyway, he was really hungry when we arrived. It came with a baked potato. We ordered the sautéed mushrooms on the side, which were excellent. They were sautéed in butter and tasty. I ordered the ribeye, medium rare with vegetables. Both meals came with a really nice salad that was very fresh. Had mixed vegetables and Chex mix cereal on top. I thought that was odd but it was really good! I had the poppyseed dressing which was super tasty. We also got rolls with our meal. When the steaks came to the table, mine looked chard and very nice. I was looking forward to it very much. When I cut into it however, it was medium well. Medium is about as far as I can go with the steak when I actually prefer medium rare. Very disappointing. I was contemplating just eating it but I would not enjoy it and I was paying $32. our waiter took it back and said she would bring me another one. Which she did. This one came back and it was actually blue rare in the middle. At this point, I had eaten all of my broccoli and mushrooms, and a few bites of my husbands potato. My husband was completely finished with his food. I chose to take to stay calm and enjoy it another time. The waitress did take my glass of wine off of our check as a way of apology I guess. This is the second time that we have eaten here and both times are disappointing. I believe a steakhouse should be able to cook any kind of steak perfectly every time. The meat seems to be really good quality and being a level in tradition I can see why it continues to thrive. For me not so much. Sorry. read more

Been coming here for over 50 years since I was a child. Always come when I'm in town. The chicken fried chicken is my favorite. Last night I had to take a double take. They have cut the portion size more than in half. What used to be a generous portion is now smaller than my open palm (I am not a big lady) and the meat was MAYBE 1/3 of an inch thick. It tasted great and the mashed potatoes were good but the chicken serving size was ridiculous especially since the price had not been cut in 1/3! Also it doesn't come with a side salad anymore- now it's $5 extra. Two friends had salmon and it was literally 1/3 inch thick. They had to have taken a salmon filet and cut it into thinner pieces to save money . It was so unappetizing because salmon isn't a thin filet. Super disappointing after so many years of great meals. read more

Salads felt like out of a bag, dressings for said salads tasted like they came from a 5 gallon bucket. Wheat Chex instead of croutons? Peppered steaks were cooked correctly, but were tough and flavorless. Got sauteed onions and mushrooms for the steak but they were greasy and flavorless. Loaded baked potato was a nice, large red spud with plastic ramekins of the toppings, felt cheap. French Onion Soup was thin and uninspired. If you have a hundred bucks to spend on dinner, invite some friends and go somewhere else.... Live and learn read more

We love this place! When we want a great steak this is our choice. It's been in Loveland as long as I can remember and we're always happy and satisfied when we leave. I get the bacon wrapped filet and it is tender and very flavorful. My husband switches up his choice of steaks and has enjoyed all of them. The entree comes with a foil wrapped baked potato ( other side Choices as well... rice, veggies...) and a dinner salad. The salad is topped with Chex cereal.... Old school for sure and so nostalgic and good! We always sit in the back of the restaurant..... locally known a " the rear of the steer" and is our favorite spot in the bar area. Tip...... It's always a bit cold in the bar so bring a sweater. They have a good variety of entrees, beef, chicken , appetizers and desserts. Prices are fair and typical for a steak house. They have a full bar and several local beers. The staff are always friendly and helpful. We really enjoy the Black Steer and look forward to our meals here. read more

Service was soooo slow (hostess forgot to tell waitress we were here, we came because they claimed to be best steaks anywhere....flavorful, bus sooooooo overcooked. We didn't want to wait another 40 min to get a replacement steak so we asked for some credit not even all being we couldn't eat it all and they refused. Wouldn't recommend. Understanding the establishment is older. Steak was tough and over cooked which I hear happens numerous times here. Baked potato was good.
