Ordered the ribeye and it was ridiculously over spiced it was almost like chewing on grains of sand there was so much and barely edible, only reason this is getting 2 starts is because the cut of meat wasn't bad and after scraping off the spice it was bearable. read more

I waited in line for quite a while, and felt like it wasn't moving. After ordering, I got my drink and tried to find a place to sit. 1. Ordered breakfast and it took 30 minutes the first time went there. 2. Second time I ate there, ordered fish tacos without ranch and they put ranch on it. Went there for brunch on Saturday. Very expensive - and the food was neither appetizing nor tasty. Mom got the croissant egg and bacon sandwich. The bacon was crumbled into the egg - which made the egg sort of gray-looking. Very unappetizing. I ordered the Frenchie - and normally I like somewhat sweeter things - but this tasted like I was eating spoonfuls of sugar and syrup - the eggs and potatoes that came with it were not appealing, either. Evening of 9/29/15 was my first time ever going to this place. I had my husband a surprise 30th birthday dinner here, didn't want somewhere to fancy and also somewhere close . All the family LOVED there food, only down side we had to order at the register and we had no waiter. The manager George was AWESOME he let me continuously bother him, on cleaning off the tables and also having everything set up once we got there. The staff was so helpful and they made everything so much more easier for me and I really APPRECIATED IT!!! Over all my husband really enjoyed himself and I did as well. read more

This is our go to spot for weekend breakfast/brunch in the Cinco Ranch area. When the weather is warmer, we enjoy dining al fresco on their large patio. Food is always good and the cashier is always courteous and professional. They have a nice selection of different hot coffees and iced teas. Definitely recommend getting there before 9am on the weekends to enjoy a peaceful breakfast and a shorter line to order your food. I love the place and the food in there. The only negative is the crowd. So you have to wait in line for a long time to order and then be chasing a table, which stress me. I would prefer to be seated and just wait to order. It is uncomfortable to be almost on other people's tables to make sure you get it after they leave. Other than that I love this place, and I will come back in less busy hours or days. read more

My grown children suggested going here last night for my birthday. We arrived at 6:00, to find the line stretched to the door. After 20 minutes, we had progressed all of about 5 feet. They only had one cashier taking orders! My husband went up to talk to someone about it and was told that when they got busy in the kitchen they closed one register - um, really? Let's see, would I rather place my order and find a table, sit, enjoy an adult beverage possibly while chatting with family and have my food delayed a bit or would I prefer to stand for 45 minutes? In my opinion, this is very poor judgement by management. A number of people came in after us and turned around and left. Would they have left if they could have waited for their food while sitting at a table? There were plenty of empty tables. After placing our orders, we managed to find a place where 9 of us could sit. The floor was filthy with some small crackers that a previous toddler had obviously dropped. When the buzzer went off, only 2 of the five orders on that ticket were ready. Kept the buzzer. Two more became ready. Finally got the last order. Then my son's family, who ordered right after us, had to wait an additional 10-15 minutes for their order. We finally started eating at their insistence so our own food wouldn't be ice cold. The food was pretty good, which is the only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of one. The french fries served to one of the children were horribly over-salted and inedible. My husband went to used the men's room and came back saying it was disgusting and looked as if it hadn't been cleaned all day. I decided to avoid the ladies's room after that. Sorry, Black Walnut. The food is pretty good, and so are the desserts. I've had the black walnut lemon chicken, very yummy. I've also had the pork carnitas tacos and they were also so delicious. Dessert is amazing, I highly recommend the Hummingbird cake, we have also had the turtle cheesecake, coconut cream cheesecake, and the canoli! The banana cream pie was extremely sour when we tasted it, not sure if maybe that's how it is made here? But it was sour and the bananas seemed too ripe, like black, it was disgusting. Might've just been a bad piece but not sure. Also, the staff here is TERRIBLE and SO UNPROFESSIONAL. while we were eating our meals, these two young, skinny girls who worked there sat near us. Not sure if they were off the clock or on a break but they were cussing and talking way too loud about their personal business and we had a very young child seated with us, so I don't think that was very professional. It was also not very crowded at the time, so the two young girls could've sat anywhere else that was more private. And when you go to the dessert/Gelato bar, it takes them FOREVER to even notice you. They're basically ignoring you while you are just trying to get some dessert. You stand there forever awkwardly and they just go right past you, not very nice. Growing up with a gourmet cook for a mother, I have developed quite a broad palet and have become a big "Foodie"! As a City Council member, I usually try to patronize Katy businesses to help support my community and hear what the people are candidly saying about the city. My quest to always try new things and new places to eat has taken me out of Katy "Proper" this morning and landed me at the Black Walnut Cafe in Cinco Ranch. I am Katy, Texas' unofficial food critic and regularly rate places that I attend so that when my friends call and ask me about a certain place, I have the scoop. When I pulled up I noticed that there was limited parking, but most of it was full. I walked in and was not sure what to do since I had never been there before. I grabbed a menu from the table by the resister and tried to pick out something that I had never had. I liked the selection and possible combinations available on the menu. I was debating between the Lobster Benedict and the Cordon Bleu Benedict. The server came up to the front and promptly apologized for the wait. We discussed their specials and talked about my two choices to help me make the best decision for me. I chose the Cordon Bleu Benedict which consisted of two poached extra large eggs, Parmesan crusted chicken, ham, Swiss, toasted English muffin, grilled asparagus, and a cayenne citrus hollandaise. The coffee I chose was the Indonesian Sumatra Mandheling which was supposed to be very full bodied, strong cedar notes, consistent, balanced, sweet tobacco, winey, spicy, chocolate, and with low acidity...but it just tasted like weak coffee. But after I ate, my tastebuds seemed to have opened up some and I actually began to taste the various favors talked about. Either way.... the coffee was good. It was a gorgeous morning, so I sat outside, sipped my coffee and listened to the birds singing while I watched the sun peek up over Katy. I ordered an extra breakfast burrito due to the small portions of the breakfast item that I chose. I was not a big fan of the sausage they chose for the breakfast burrito it had a strong fennel seed taste that dominated the other favors. It was a good experience over all and I would come back. The personnel are top notch, prices are too high for me to eat regularly there, and food was delicious. Oh yeah, and my Wi-Fi runs very slow in there for some reason. read more

My wife and I eat here frequently. In this place you walk up and place your order and then they buzz you when it is time to pick up your food. I like the roast beef here and the steak is good. I have also eaten their steak salad. I can't remember the name of it. It has a nice atmosphere and there are not waitresses and waiters but I like the food and I can walk up to the counter and pick up my own food. We have been eating here for a few years. read more

this place makes me uncomfortable. the food itself is fine, but everything else about this place annoys me. first off, you order at the counter. this is ok. but they CHARGE EXTRA for ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. want to replace your sausage with another egg? EXTRA $. want that egg to be an egg white? EXTRA $$. if you order an egg-white omelette with an extra egg, they will charge you TWICE for making the omelette egg-white. basically, they will charge you extra to make that an egg white, even though you are already charged extra for the other eggs in your order to be egg white. DOES THIS MAKE ANY SENSE??? it just takes nickel&diming to another level. my order would come out to 10 bucks for some scrambled eggs and toast. completely nonsensical and expensive as fuck for breakfast. also, the set up makes me not want to tip, EVER. you order at the counter, you have to pick up your food yourself. you have to get your own drink, spoons, forks, napkins... the only thing you don't do is clear the table. however, when you order, the receipt has a 'tip' space on it, like i'm supposed to tip for them taking my order!! should i tip? what if i don't and they spit in my food? blech. makes me wish i lived in montrose so i could eat breakfast at empire cafe instead. read more

Great place for a ladies' lunch. In fact, I found it curious that the day I had lunch there, only about 10% of clientele was male. The rest were tennis club gals and mommies with their kiddies. Perhaps there are more families and/or couples in the evening, don't know. I had the fish tacos and they were tasty. Husband had a burger and it was tasty, too. The atmosphere was nice, with seating indoors and outdoors. The place was pretty full when I went at 2pm and we had to park in the bank's parking lot next door (!). I think I don't give it 5 stars b/c for a $30 lunch for two, I don't expect to pick up my own food.
