We had a very nice dining experience here in Cinco Ranch at the Black Walnut. It had been awhile since we had been to one and decided to give them another try. We had previously dined at the one on the Woodlands. The order process is counter service and they bring it your table. Self serve drink and utensil area are also in the equation. Food was good. I think the overall winners were the Nashville hot chicken and the Pot Roast Grilled Cheese. The Mahi Mahi tacos needed more season on the fish and the Alfredo on the Chicken Parm was a little watery. Overall, the restaurant was clean but had to bring it to managers attention that the bathroom needed some attention. Small fixable things for sure, but we would definitely dine there again when in the area.

I order through Lunchdrop but the food was so bad I had to come review on YELP.. it was 23.00 for nothing but lettuce and tortilla strips. The tiny piece of bread was so hard I tossed it and it was extra! Now I have to go out and get something for lunch. Not happy!

Went to Black Walnut with my family for dinner a few weeks ago and wasn't too big of a fan. The food was brought out after a long while and was cold on arrival. The flavors were also not all there to me and moreso on the blander side. The restaurant is quite large with plentiful seating and the overall ambience is that of an American diner. Unlikely to come back because of the quality of the food and the lack of flavor. The menu is not inexpensive either, so definitely felt more difficult to justify the prices.

Great sandwich and sweet potato fries. Good service. Clean restrooms. And quiet enough to bring your laptop and work. Highly recommend

We had not been here in a while and came to meet with my podcrew for TrueTalkCafe & we absolutely loved it! There was no wait, plenty of seating available (on a Saturday morning), the food was delicious & there was a young men attending the tables who was the nicest server. I will definitely be back. I had the new Cinnamon Roll french toasts and they were delicious. My friends had the Migas plate, the Texas plate & a sandwich croissant and they all liked their food

It was a very, very delicious. I was utterly surprised. We also found out about the happy hour specials so we will definitely go back during that time 3 to 630pm I believe...and have some appetizers and drinks. Food, Service was really good.

The food at black walnut is consistent and tasty. I really enjoyed my turkey burger and the sweet potato fries were perfect. Some places undercook them. The dining area smelled kind of dingy and wet so we sat outside.

Very charming café that's perfect for studying and snacking. I enjoyed a hot vanilla latte, which was a bit too sweet for my taste but still rich and comforting. Alongside, I had the artichoke dip, which was nice and warm, very cheesy, and paired well with the crisp bread. The café has a cozy atmosphere that makes it an ideal spot for getting work done. Whether you're looking for a place to focus or just want to relax with a tasty snack, this café is a great choice.

Recently visited and less than ideal review. I was reached out by management asked to come back for another try. So I did... Let's just say there was no improvement. As matter of fact it was worse. Ordered an American burger and the French toast with two beverages. Go to the coke station and it glitches to where it doesn't function properly.... Iced tea it is. Go outside to wait for lunch. Guy comes by drops off food and asks if we need anything. I say ketchup and silverware. Got half. Silverware came. I get up to get the ketchup and the sever comes back as says he severed me the wrong American burger. He was stammering a bit so I couldn't understand if it was temp of the requested cook or it was missing toppings. I say it's okay. I'll eat it regardless. I don't want to waste food over cook temp or missing topping. And he began to say it's someone else's. Then said hold on. I then start to think if they were just going to take this item and then serve it to another guest... that's weird. Another person comes out and tells me that the burger order wasn't mine and then offered me a new one. Again I said it's fine I don't want to waste food. Burger wasn't all that great anyways. Heavily seasoned with salt and had that right out of the freezer taste. Overall. Mistakes happen I get it. But it was a weird interaction. I'm sure this dialogue of the process seems innocuous but in the moment it was weird. Furthermore with a second chance given this place isn't really for me.

PANCAKE STACK(lemon and blueberry) APPLE & GOUDA CHICKEN SAUSAGE

Ambiance: I've visited other Black Walnut locations before and have had great dishes, I never left a review so here's one from my most recent experience. Across the board, all locations are clean and the environment is very welcoming. Order: Ham and cheese Omelet: The omelet was chefs kiss but the sausage was underwhelming (overpriced for something I could by at the local grocery store.) Lemon Blueberry Pancake Stack: My husband loved the pancake, and thought the jam was a great touch. He felt the same way as I did about the sausage. Customer service: Our waitress was very nice and attentive. Overall experience: The food and ambiance were great, we'd return.

My first visit to Black Walnut Cafe and I will be back! Went for breakfast and ordered eggs, potatoes and the chicken Gouda sausage! It was delicious- so was the house blend coffee! Service was amazing ! Prices are a bit high for breakfast - but what I am wanting to brag about is the amazing desserts. We ordered a lemon cake slice to split and it was incredible. There was a blueberry topping put on it which was not necessary as the cake was perfect! There wait staff at the bar where we sat were so attentive. I wished that the host would have explained more when we walked in- had no idea where coffee was or where to sit. After paying we were handed our coffee cups and a pager. Overall though great service, food and staff!

Been years since I last went to a Black Walnut Cafe; this is my first time at the Cinco Ranch location. The restaurant has a nice exterior, and there were plenty of seating indoors and some seating outdoors. You order at the front and then take a number with you. Decided to do Houston Restaurant Week (HRW) dinner menu. Service was alright. 1st HRW course: Coconut shrimp was pretty good. Got to try some of the H2Omelon salad; not bad. Non-HRW item: cup of creamy tomato basil soup (good but a little too much cheese in the soup) 2nd HRW course: creole crab cakes (Cajun flavor was there; wished the crab cake was slightly crispy; the sweet potato fries were hot but soft and not well fried; the salad that came with this dish was refreshing). Got to try some of the Blackened steak frites (the meat was unfortunately a bit tough to chew) 3rd HRW course (dessert): strawberry cake, tastes how it sounds Food-wise I knew what to expect from Black Walnut Cafe; quality is ok but the HRW dinner menu wasn't really worth the price. The highlight of the experience was Mello Yello! Not easy finding that soda in grocery stores anymore, but happy to find it in restaurants as a fountain drink!

The restaurant is perfectly situated right in front of the central green space so my niece could play within view while we relaxed and enjoyed our meals, a total win-win! Now, about the food... Everything we ordered was absolutely DELICIOUS and packed with flavor. It's hard to pick just one dish to recommend, but if I had to, I'd say the cauliflower bites were my fav and are a definite must try. Perfectly seasoned with a little spicy kick. The beignets were another standout...light, crispy, and not overly sweet; plus it came with a little dipping sauce. I had the kale and mushroom pasta dish which was heaven for this pasta-loving girl. It was fresh and full of bold flavors. You could taste the quality of the ingredients in every bite (and the added shrimp were HUGE). Don't forget to grab a matcha latte. I had the lavender flavor and it was the perfect balance of sweetness. Highly recommend as well.

Took 10-15 minutes to be greeted after being sat. No big deal, I get it. Santiago was great. We did the mystery mimosa experience which was fun! We go to order our food and BOOM!! This is where they get you. It was all a lie. A very deceiving menu written in a way where you think you're going to get oxtails and jollof rice plus appetizer and dessert for $55 per person. Because that's a great price, not really a deal, just a great price. WRONG. Santiago had to clarify that it was $55 EXTRA ON TOP OF $42 PER PERSON. SO $97 PER PERSON FOR OXTAILS AND JOLLOF RICE, AN APP & DESSERT. RIDICULOUS! TOTALLY DISHONEST AND DECEIVING. Write it as $55 additional per person, so everyone knows what they're getting into before they reserve their table. Because Santiago admitted everyone he served that day was shocked at the additional cost. Not wanting to ruin my wife's FIRST Mother's Day, I brushed it off and still continued with the order. Appetizer: tequeño & empanada. Bland, came out cold and after our entrees came out. Entrees: Oxtail & Jollof rice. I loved it. Flavor was great. Just wish there was a lot more. For $97, you expect to have 6-8 large oxtails and a side of rice. What i got was 4 very tiny oxtails and a full plate of rice!! Peri peri chicken & jollof rice- flavor was nice and smoky. But again, for $97, you expect more than 2 avg size leg quarters and a full plate of rice. Dessert: They were out of key lime pie by noon. I saw the cheesecake, it was a thin plain slice, so we opted for their seis leches cake. It was not good. It was not soaked enough, very dry. The reason the score wasn't lower was because service was great, the entrees tasted great and they gave each mother a single rose and Mother's Day card which had a pin in it that said best mom ever. Which made my wife's day even that much better. Thank you Chef Casey. But I don't think I would visit again solely based on the deceiving menu and small portions that are not worth the additional cost.

First, tonight my family and I came into the restaurant and were not greeted by any hostess or employee for about 7-10 minutes. We understood though because everyone seemed to be in a rush since it was busy. We patiently waited then we were finally seated. Our server took our drink orders first as usual, got us our drinks then walked away. We waited a good while for her to come back since we were wanting to order an appetizer, and that took forever. Once we finally were able to place our appetizer order, it took another 10 minutes for it to come out. Again, we tried our best to be nice since it was busy. Now to the meals.. we put in our order for our dishes and proceeded to wait about 30-35 minutes. There is only 3 of us! Once everyone got their meals we realized it just.. wasn't the best. - My mother ordered a customized pick 3 meal, her roasted chicken sandwich didn't have any roasted chicken, she said it was all lunch meat? And her bread was as hard as a rock. The "truffle fries" that she had to pay extra for didn't have any truffle, when asked about it.. we were informed it was just truffle "oil". What. Lastly, she didn't even receive her soup. They forgot about it. We had to remind them about the forgotten soup for my mother to finally receive it. She said it was not even good. - My mediterranean chicken bowl was..okay, but I did notice that last time I was here I had a good amount of chicken. This time.. I had barely any chicken. We received 0 REFILLS on our drinks, so by the time we ordered dessert we couldn't even finish it since we were so thirsty and the chocolate was so rich. In the end, the rush died down so much where once we sat up to go we were wondering why service was still awful when no one was in the restaurant. The manager did come to apologize, both our server and manager were very nice. They decided to take off the sandwich from our bill and remake the sandwich and soup to go. Once we got home, my mother realized the soup in our to go package was actually the correct soup, and that at the restaurant she has no idea what soup they brought her. Overall, this experience tonight has been awful. We went home thirsty and hungry.

What a great dining experience! This was my first time here. I was heading into heavy rush-hour…read moretraffic, so I decided to avoid it and stop to have a good meal before heading home. This restaurant definitely aims to please. I was being very specific about what I wanted for my ribeye steak tonight; waitress Jessie was awesome and listened carefully to my requests. And then to make sure that I was absolutely happy, she brought Chef Kenneth to the table to discuss what I was looking for. Kenneth returned from the kitchen with three beautiful-looking ribeye steaks and we discussed which one would give me the best dining experience. He does some of the butchering himself so he knew exactly what I was looking for. I ended up being served the most fabulous Wagyu steak I've had in a very long time. Unlike the other steaks that can have a seasoning on them, the Wagyu is just salt and pepper and then is served with a beautiful compound butter slathered all over it. They make that butter in-house and it has wine and shallots and bone marrow and other wonderful stuff. Trust me, it's amazing! I ordered extra on the side and poured that all over the top of the steak. Delicious!! Sometimes little things count and it was served with grilled onion that was tasty. I could have had a side of mashed potatoes or asparagus, but I decided to treat myself and try the mac-n-cheese instead. Half of that food was my lunch the next day, so I left enough room for dessert, where my choice was the apple pie bread pudding with cinnamon roll ice cream. That was nice and moist and I enjoyed it. Overall, this was a really great dining experience and I'm so glad that bad traffic gave me the excuse to come here. Will definitely plan a return visit!!

First off, this place is gorgeous. There's plenty of space, a great ambiance, and the live music…read morereally adds to the experience. That said, the noise level was a bit too high for my taste. Our waitress was fantastic--very attentive and friendly, which made a big difference. The food was tasty and, in my opinion, worth the higher price point. I wasn't very hungry, so I stuck with appetizers for dinner, and they did not disappoint. Overall, I'd definitely come back, especially to try the steaks next time.

I had been watching this one being built for a while and was especially curious to try it since this location has a full bar, which adds a really fun twist to the traditional coffee shop concept. I stopped in for lunch and decided to sit out on the patio which ended up being the perfect choice. The atmosphere was relaxed, bright, and inviting with a nice open feel that makes it easy to slow down and actually enjoy your meal. The staff was friendly and welcoming from the moment I walked in and everything moved quickly and smoothly. I ordered the guava mimosa and it was SO good. Light, refreshing, and honestly the perfect daytime drink. For food I had the chicken avocado wrap and substituted the chips for truffle fries and both were SOOOOO good. The wrap was fresh, warm, and packed with flavor and the truffle fries were absolutely worth the upgrade. I love that this location keeps the cozy Buzz and Bites feel while also leaning into a slightly more elevated vibe with the bar and patio seating. Between the atmosphere, the friendly staff, and the great food and drinks, I can already tell this will become a regular lunch spot now that it is so close to our office.

Took a while to get served but excellent staff. More direction is needed to scan tables especially when your server walks by several times and sees your glasses are empty and we still were not asked what we wanted to order after 20 minutes. I could see the staff were bust but something needs to be reigned in her on serving tables. Great staff though, excellent. The food is phenomenal but we left this time to go somewhere else after having our one coffee in an hour.

It looks very nice upon walking in - low lights to set the mood. When we were seated, our server initially seemed to be overwhelmingly attentive. Standing there as we looked over the menu for the first time. A little awkward half way through our meal, her shift was over and we were introduced to a male server. He came to our table once maybe twice and had us waiting to get a beverage. I was planning on getting dessert but the change in service changed my mind. The food was delicious - my steak cooked almost perfectly (slightly under). It looks like they have entertainment some nights. So it could be a vibe but the service needs some major work.

It was a bit awkward to say the least. Once we got sat down, our initial service was great. She explained the menu and advised on some things to try. The food itself was pretty good but the prices for appetizers that looked pretty small were a little too much. After our food was brought out, she introduced another server since her shift was ending and at this point there was no checking back to our table to see if we needed anything. No drink refills were taken into consideration. It wasn't until the very end when we were all done with our meals that they asked if we'd like any dessert. The place was nice and it seemed like it could be chill but unfortunately the experience was not pleasant.
