    I've eaten at this Black Walnut location a couple of times over the years. I've never had any issues, until my most recent visit back in November 2025. The restaurant is connected to one of the main parking garages. The first two hours are free which is convenient. It has a more casual feel because of the counter service setup. I like that they have a large menu. We visited on a Sunday afternoon which meant we had the option to order from the brunch menu. The dining area is a good size and they also have a nice patio which is where we sat. The staff was nice, but they were slow at times. The biggest issue was with the food. I ordered the Chicken Tenders which came with Fries and Honey Slaw. I also ordered a side of Broccoli. The Fries and Broccoli were cold while the Cole Slaw was too salty for my taste preference. The Chicken Tenders and dipping sauces (Cayenne Ranch and Honey Mustard) were tasty. One of my dining companions sent some of her food back because it was also served cold. One of the employees was going to reheat her food, and she had to ask for a new order to be brought out (which they reluctantly did). For my beverage I had the Blueberry Spritz which is a mocktail. It was very good and refreshing, but took quite a while to be brought to the table. The staff was nice enough to grab extra napkins and utensils for us when we asked which was very nice of them to do. Maybe it was just an off day for the staff and hopefully they have fixed the issue with serving cold food that is meant to be served hot. I'll wait a little while longer before returning.

    Had the pleasure of stopping by this afternoon for a quick pick me up and found heaven in a stack of pancakes with some honey whipped butter. Deliciousness can be found on every page of their menu. I sat on the patio in the beautiful weather and felt right at home !

    I have no been to this location for over 5 years and wanted to stop in. Spinach dip was good, however I had to ask a couple of times for my additional appetizer that didn't make it to the table before my entrees as requested. I was almost done with my entree before my philly egg rolls made it to the table. Now my entree, I asked for no tomatoes and no mushrooms. As you can see, both are there. 3 ppl ordered the same pasta at my table and they switched all the orders. We had to send them back.

    The concept of walking up to the counter to order and then proceeding to a table works well if you've been here before or have had time to review the menu. For first-timers, though, it creates an odd situation--do you take a menu to the table to figure out everyone's order, then go back to the counter? And if a line has formed by then, are you expected to head to the back? That part of the process could be better. Once we placed our order, the food took a little while to arrive. The Steak Frites, Pot Roast Dinner, and Coconut Shrimp Tacos were all decent--not over the top, but okay. The vibe is open-concept, clean, and bright. During our visit, a large table of about twenty teens made the space a bit loud. Street parking is available, and it's a nice area for a walk after dinner. All in all, not terrible--just decent.     Service was mid server came by maybe 3 times. Food wasn't good. French toast was too sweet and the steak was too chewy. It was raining and we were seated in the outdoor patio so ambiance wasn't really there.

    I ordered at the counter before finding for a seat. A staff member introduced herself, and said she would assist me in anything I need. My food, Avocado Bacon Benedict was served to me 10 minutes after ordering. I expected my food to be warm. But no, it was slightly below room temperature. That is boo-boo number one. Boo-boo number two: One of the poached eggs was cooked perfectly. However, the other was overdone. Boo-boo number three: The bacon was hard instead of crispy. Boo-boo number four: The avocado wasn't fresh. Boo-boo number five: My side of potatoes was hard. Either they were reheated or they were cooked earlier in the morning (My food reached my table at 11am). The restaurant has a beautiful interior, and friendly staff. Free street parking and garage parking is available. Garage parking is free for the first 2 hours.

    The front desk staff were the only bright spot in an otherwise disappointing experience. I ordered the Big Breakfast and waited 30 minutes for my food -- unacceptable for a breakfast spot. When it finally arrived, my eggs were severely undercooked, still half raw egg whites. To make matters worse, not a single staff member checked on us for the entire duration of our meal. For a place that already struggles with wait times, the least they could do is follow up on the food they're sending out.

    I couldn't tell if this was counter service or menu service as it's kind of an odd space. However, the food and drinks were pretty good. We went for a work trip and had the wings (amazing), lettuce wraps (good and lights) and excellent chips and queso which actually had a kick to it. Service was awesome with drink refills and everyone being attentive, but the counter ordering was just not the experience we were looking for. Good stuff and nice outdoor dining too.

    Lunch meeting with my colleague, I was not very hungry so I ordered the southwest chicken salad and my coworker ordered the shrimp Alfredo fettuccine all was great. Parking lot was packed but I went around and someone was coming out in front so I got a great spot. It was quiet and less traffic around that time so we got to eat and talk in peace.

    I have been going to Black Walnut for years and there are several reasons why I keep going back. For one, their menu is huge! Every time I try one thing, I immediately want to visit to try the rest. The restaurant itself is spacious, neat and beautiful. The liveliness adds to the ambiance. The servers are friendly and helpful, with prompt and respectful service. Whether dining it or picking up, the experience has always been positive. And not least of all the food. I LOVE the Asian glazed Atlantic salmon meal. The cook on the fish is perfect and the flavors pair excellently with the mashed potatoes. The quantity is large and filling, making a great meal. The chicken cobb salad is also fresh and very tasty. I was surprised to see vindaloo wings on the menu and was delighted by the appetizer. The marinade was tangy, but not too spicy. For something more traditional, but delicious, the blackened shrimp fettuccine alfredo is the way to go. Honestly, can't go wrong!

    THAI PEANUT CHICKEN WRAP and SWEET POTATO FRIES

    I usually get the same thing every time I come here, but this wrap was calling my name and it did not disappoint. When the server came out with my plate, I literally gasped because of how huge it was LOL The tortilla is super soft, the chicken is tender, the cabbage/slaw gives it a good crunch, and it had the perfect amount of peanuts inside. The peanut sauce was also very tasty. And let's not forget about the sweet potato fries, they are always a must for me. I highly recommend.

    To be honest, I wasn't expecting to like Black Walnut as much as I did. My prejudgments were definitely kicking in, but we needed to give the kids something to eat to prevent a nuclear meltdown. We walked in and ordered at the front desk. We sat down, and even though the drinks are self serve, we were frequently asked if we wanted refills on drinks. Our food came out fairly quickly, and everything was great! My wife and I shared a blackened salmon blueberry spinach salad, and we really enjoyed it. The salmon was cooked perfectly, and even though I'm not big on sweet salads it worked well. The kids burger looked good, I was able to sneak in a few fries and they were nice and crispy. Overall I was impressed and would definitely return, especially to this location.

    Atmosphere is great, very open, bright and clean. Staff are all friendly and helpful. The birria dish was so huge and delicious. The cheese on the Benedict wasn't great. Would get the birria dish again, but would pass in the Benedict. The pancakes looked amazing for next time.

I'm quite nauseated by this - I have never seen anything like this in a dish before. My waiter provided great service. Parking on the second floor is free for two hours.

She then text our friends group and said we all had to come together and we did just that. She made reservations in advance as this place is popular thanks to recent Michelin Bib Gourmand awards as well as many other accolades. Walk ins are welcome as well. Our reservation was later in the evening so after a night of bar hopping, we ride shared in which I think is one of the best options as parking is limited here or you have to find street parking in the neighborhood. This place is literally a house turned into a restaurant. Inside is just multiple rooms with a couple of tables. It makes for a unique, intimate dining experience, perfect for a date night. In our case, we were a group of nine so we got patio seating. The patio is spacious and well kept, and if the weather cooperates, a great place to hang. One thing that really stood out to me is the amazing ambience of this place. I was told that the bartenders pick the music for the night from the owners extensive vinyl collection. Once the album is in, they play it in it's entirety. The sound system was systeming and on top of the great company and food, we were totally vibing with the music. Customer service was amazing. Every staff member we came across was so friendly, especially our server. The menu here changes. There are some mainstays, but they like to change things up. Their website shows current menus daily. We were told that family style is the best way to experience this restaurant. I am one of those people that will always listen to the staff and go with their suggestions. Our group went through quite a bit of their menu from apps, entrees and desserts. I loved that our server and staff brought our food out one by one in what they thought was the best progression so we could take a culinary journey. We started off light with their popular Dilly Bread. Best bread I've had in awhile. Next was the Texas Tartare. It was my first ever tartare and it was delicious. We then moved on to Fingerlingin Good which was a crispy potato dish with chili crisp and mascarpone. It was potatoes elevated to the highest level and so so good. Next up was Beer Battered Sweet Tots. I didn't think sweet potatoes could be that good. Our first entree was a vegan dish called the Carroty Kid. I could seriously become a vegan if all dishes tasted like this. It was curried. A bowl of jasmine rice would've made it a complete meal. Next we tried another famous Nobie's dish called Nonno's Pasta. Handmade, perfectly cooked tagliatelle with a delicious bolognese. I wouldn't share this next time. Ok, I will, but it was that good. On to the heavier dishes. First up was the Jamon With Your Bad Self. This came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. It was favorite heavy entree. It was high quality, iberico pork steak with shaved brussels and all kinds of other tasty ingredients that when combined made such a tasty bite. We then went to the sea with the Drops of Grouperter. It was good, but not something I would order again. It was a little too smoky for my liking. Our biggest dish that came market priced was the Kick His Ass Seabass. This was a whole fish that was presented beautifully on a platter with all the accouterments to make your own elevated fish tacos. We left no morsel of fish behind. It was absolutely delicious. One of the things this place is really known for is their pies. This was the part I was most excited about. Just like their menu, their pies change up. We got all their offerings that night which they presented on one big platter of goodness. Their main stay and I believe always on the menu is the famous Olive Oil Cake. It's not a pie, but I can see why this is such a popular dessert. I can't even describe it, you just have to try it to understand. The pies we had were the Black Bottom Strawberry Pie, Banana Rum, and the Peanut Butter Pie. I would order all of them again. We all had a difference of opinion on which was the best, but my fave was the Banana Rum. Overall, I was highly impressed with this place and kind of mad at myself for waiting so long to make it here. It had made it's way to the top of my list of favorite restaurants in Houston. I would the salt to be too much and couldn't eat more than 2 bites because of it. Service: warm, gracious, attentive, and efficient. As for ambiance, this is where the restaurant misses the mark for me. It's in an old house, and when we walked in, that's exactly what I smelled: old house. Tuna, scallop and salmon perfectly marinated on crostinis. The Hearts of Palm Salad was excellent, and they are definitely sharable, probably made for 3 - 4 guests to share. Of the two pastas the Cresta De Gallo stood out the most, but the Bolognese was also virtually perfect. Of the two entrees we enjoyed the Chicken Piccata slightly more than the Hanger Steak. On our second visit, Ryan was our server. He had been our server at Underbelly, One Fifth and Georgia James in the past and remembered us immediately and was a wonderful host for the meal. This time the table enjoyed the Chargrilled Oysters and the Parsley Salad to start. We also sampled 4 pastas - The Cresta De Gallo again, the Chitarra with Scallops and Uni, the Lumache with Vodka Sauce and the Sourdough Tagliatelle. All were fantastic. My personal favorite was the Chitarra. In the end we finished off all 4 so no leftovers. We then shared the Chicken Piccata as our only entree. This dish is so good. Juicy Chicken, flavorful sauce, and the Sourdough Tagliatelle was the perfect accompaniment. We also enjoyed two desserts - The Budino (which is more like a chocolate tort than a pudding) and the Tiramisu. Both wonderful. If Milton's wasn't over an hour from our house, it would become a regular on the rotation. But it is definitely good enough to warrant many return visits.

Tiki bars happen to be one of my favorite varieties of bars so I was more than excited to finally check it off my list. I had recently seen them on the Food Network as well. They share a lot with another popular dining spot so parking can be a little difficult in their lot. You can find street parking or park across the street in an overflow lot. Customer service was great from start to finish. We had just ate next door and our intentions were to come in here just for cocktails, but I couldn't leave without trying some of the popular items. I wanted the most tropical drink I could find on the menu so I started off with the Blue Hawaiian. I saw fire on the description so my extra self needed to have it. I'm a big rum guy so this drink was right up my alley and very boozy with two types of rum. It was very coconut forward with pineapple being the secondary flavor. One was enough for me to feel just right. Since we had just ate, we decided to share the World Famous Cheeseburger. This was a great burger. I don't know if they were going for the smash effect, but it had smash burger characteristics. It had all my favorite things that are musts on a burger like American cheese and red onions. It also had a very nice chili aioli that added great flavor to the burger. I came on another stop for a drink visit shortly after and tried the pork dumplings and popcorn chicken. The interior is cozy, dimly lit, and full of great energy. Perfect for date night, dinner with friends, or really any occasion. I will be thinking of this meal until my return!

We informed our server that we were planning to order from the EDH menu. The EDH menu was listed on a small card on the table. We asked about menu items and double checked to make sure the deal included all three courses. The only stipulation communicated by our server was that the dessert course did not include the Skillet Baked Brie. I started with a glass of rosé. Because it was a Tuesday, they had happy hour all day. The rosé was very good. 1st Course: We shared the Crispy Artichokes and The Famous Fried Cauliflower. Both appetizers were good, but we really enjoyed the artichokes! They were so flavorful and I enjoyed the breading. The waving of the Bonito flakes on the cauliflower was cool. 2nd Course: I had the Auberge Burger and it was really good! It had onions and truffle aioli which I love! It was very filling, especially with the fries. My friend enjoyed the Free Range Chicken. 3rd Course: We had the Coffee N' Donut Holes and the Caramel Apple Bread Pudding. I preferred the Donut Holes, especially with the espresso ice cream. When it was time to close out, we could not find our server anywhere. He disappeared at some point and we never saw him the rest of the night. We noticed an issue with our bill so a different server came over. We were under the impression that the EDH deal included three courses, however the server informed us that it's two courses (appetizer and entrée or entrée and dessert). We looked at the menu card on the table again and the server pointed to the tiny print listed at the top right corner of the card where it stated that it was a choice of two courses. Discrepancies can happen with what's published on the EDH website and what's printed on the menu in the restaurant, but it's frustrating because the two course stipulation wasn't clearly communicated by our server when we asked questions. Out of curiosity, I went to the EDH website today (3-22-26) to see if the menu was still up (it is). It lists all three courses and does not state that it's a choice of two courses. I'll give the business the benefit of the doubt that they weren't trying to bait and switch customers because miscommunications and misunderstandings happen. But it's a bit disheartening to see the business respond to customers in a passive aggressive tone. Clearly many customers were confused on the EDH deal, as it seems to have been an ongoing issue. I enjoyed my meal at the restaurant and I thought the service was good despite the confusion with the EDH deal. But after reading some of the owner's responses to customers and seeing a snarky IG story about the confusion over the EDH offer, it's left a bad taste. To paraphrase Maya Angelou, "...people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
