Smoked Salmon Lox Omelet
Mimi T.

I met some friends here for the first time on Sunday around 11 am. There is a private parking lot free for customers which is nice especially being in Rice Village. I saw it has been in business for 20+ years which is amazing to see. It was pretty busy at the time but the line moved efficiently. You order at the counter and seat yourself. The dining area was casual and comfy despite a busy crowd. The employees were very friendly and checked on us a couple times. They helped to clear the plates quickly for a group of 7. I ordered the smoked salmon lox omelette minus the mushroom which also came with homemade salsa & toast. I devoured the whole entree which tasted fresh and healthy. I did notice the salmon seemed more cooked as I worked my way through the omelette which was expected with the heat of being inside the eggs. My friends got the French toast & different breakfast sandwiches. Everyone pretty much cleared their plates as well. There was some delay in getting the cookie butter latte but they worked quickly after to make up for the forgotten drink. I liked how they have a soft serve machine with cup or cone options which is perfect for little ones. I would like to come back and try more items especially their drink variety and dessert options.

Athens Greek Pizza

Stopped by for a quick lunch after friends picked me up at the airport and we had a delicious time! It was my first time at Island Grill and I opted for the personal Athens Greek Pizza which was cheesy and delicious and came out piping hot. The freshly squeezed orange juice was also nice and pulpy. We were at a booth right next to the bathroom so some of the cleaning fumes didn't smell great but that was the one blip in an otherwise solid meal! Would love to return in the future and try some of the other items on the extensive menu.

Chicken pita with fries

My friends and I went out for brunch, and one of them recommended Island Grill because of the chicken Caesar wrap featured on TikTok. The other girls seemed excited to try. Aside from Yelp, I don't have social media, so I took their word for it. I've seen one in City Place when I lived in Spring but have never been. This one in Rice Village has a busy, limited parking shared with other establishments. We got lucky, and someone was leaving as we arrived. You line up to order, and they give you a number marker. We shared one so that it would all come to the same table. We sat at the covered patio, and it was hot and humid at noon. There was a ceiling fan, but it only helped minimally. I looked at the menu beforehand and ordered the chicken pita with fries. It had grilled chicken pieces, lettuce, tomatoes, grilled mushrooms and onions and a sauce. One of our friend's plate arrived quickly. She had the popcorn shrimp sandwich with fries that she usually orders here. The other two ordered the chicken Caesar wrap - one with fried chicken and the other grilled with sweet potato fries. I ordered a drink and decided on peach tea. Unfortunately, their ice machine had no ice. So, sitting outside with a warm drink was unpleasant. They didn't fill the ice machine till much later. The rest of us waited about 20 minutes or so for our food. I liked the fries. I thought the chicken in the chicken pita was tender. It was placed in a white paper pocket which I ripped open to hold the pita to eat. The filling kept coming out, so I ate some of it with a fork. In hindsight, I should've left it in the paper to hold everything in. I'm glad I didn't because when I turned the bottom of the pita around to look at all the falling pieces, I noticed a small hair stuck with the sauce on the pita. I was so disgusted. I have really long hair, so it definitely wasn't mine. They should wear hair nets or something. I stopped eating after that. The only thing I had after was their free vanilla soft serve ice cream. They offer a cone or a cup by the fountain drink/ice cream machine. I love a cone, so I chose that. It's one per customer. I thought the vanilla soft serve had great flavor. I'm so disappointed that the food took forever, there was no ice in the fountain drink machine, and there was hair in my food. Safe to say that I will NOT go back to this location but would be open to try the one in Spring.

What a great restaurant! I thought I had tried all the Mediterranean spots in Rice Village but was proved wrong after a Yelp search for dinner with a friend. We arrived on a weekday evening and easily found parking in their front lot. We went up to the counter to place our order. I was very curious to try the Athens pizza and decided to split the large 12 inch order with my friend. We took our table number and headed to the booths down the hallway. The restaurant has a wide mix of seating options as well as a patio. We were excited to chow down on the pizza- it was as tasty as it looked! The gyro meat and feta were so succulent on a pizza - who knew? We finished up most of it but each took a slice home. It was pretty filling! For dessert we tried their soft serve (self-service) which was free!! It was soft, light, and delicious. A great way to round off our evening. I will definitely be back here!

I was so upset when the other Island Grill location closed, but am so happy to have found this one! What stands out to me about this restaurant is how good they are at what they do. The interior is clean and family friendly. There are plenty of booths which I love and the servers are friendly and attentive. She the gyro pita was amazing, with succulent meat and soft pita bread. The sauce was the prefect amount and the vegetables were fresh and provided a nice crunch. Also, who doesn't like a plate of fresh French fries? The Buffalo burger is also a hidden gem, with the meat providing a very unique flavor. The complementary ice cream (one serving!) was a great touch! This is a great spot to grab some fast but high quality Mediterrannean food.

No frills restaurant. Average food super nice staff. Ordered the classic pancakes and the island Breakfast. The bacon was delicious, pancakes were DRY and not flavorful at all. My mom enjoyed her islands breakfast; bacon, toast, eggs and potatoes.

Coco Colada Smoothie & Seaside Oasis Smoothie

Another establishment that has grown into something of a staple in Rice Village, they serve Mediterranean cuisine in an unpretentious space that includes a covered patio, small bar, and dining area. The concept is simple, fast casual setting where one orders at a register upon arrival and then sits where they wish. The staff will run your food to your table via the provided order number. They have brunch until 2 pm while having an all day menu with typical Mediterranean dishes such as Gyro , Falafels, hummus, etc. On this visit I had a Gyro plate with a Seaside Oasis smoothie. The smoothies here are so refreshing and flavorful with fresh fruits and veggies. The food was delicious, as always. The ambiance of this joint is what makes it a favorite of mine. On this particular day it was cooler and very rainy. There was a steady stream of folks yet it wasn't loud. One can enjoy their meal while catching a few bits to whatever sports game may be on tv. Overall, I will continue to pay visits to this established restaurant and recommend it for anyone in the area looking for a laid back vibe.

The Gyro wrap is phenomenal!

We had a large party celebrating a birthday. We had a great brunch experience and the food and staff are amazing. Highly recommend

Kids pancake

Stopped for a first time. This place has been here for years and I have to assume that's because it's consistent. As per the food it's very very plain. No flare. No seasoning. No nothing. Kids pancake... oddly tough. Like while "cutting" (more like tearing apart) the pancake it was just unappealing. Literally eggs. Potatoes. Bacon. Toast. Service is okay. Everything seems so to be prepared to order. Overall this is interesting place. Has an interesting theme.

Samantha G.

Great food at a reasonable price. We got a coco cola do smoothie and it was good. We got the falafel, grilled chicken and California cod pita. All were good and we would come again.

Two scrambled eggs with a slice of ham, 4 toasts and Cappuccino for Breakfast.

Food and portion are good. Establishment has many floor to ceiling windows so is always bright in the day. Excellent service with patient, positive staff.

Been wanting to try Island Grill before JJ Watt's shout-out in 2024. Finally able to dine here at the Rice Village location and we left here satisfied, happy, and excited to return! He got the Houstonian sandwich. It comes with chips, fries, or fresh fruit. The upgrade fee to sweet potatoes is only $1! He upgraded and the sweet potato fried were delicious! Order them! I enjoyed the Avocado Hummus Pita. It was perfect and full of veggies and flavor! We will return.

Our server was great, I can't remember his name, but he joked around with us the whole time and made the experience a lot more fun. Good service can really make a meal, and he definitely did. I asked him for his favorite menu item, and he recommended the Houston Cowboy Burger. It had really good flavor, and I enjoyed it overall. It was definitely on the spicy side (which makes sense with the jalapeños), but if you like a little heat, I'd recommend it. It wasn't the best burger I've ever had, but it was solid and I'd order it again. My only real complaint was that it was pretty loud inside. There was a game on, so there was a lot of cheering and noise, which made it feel a little overstimulating. That said, it's more of a sports bar atmosphere, so I don't really fault them for it, we just weren't there to watch the game. Overall, we had a good time, enjoyed the food and service, and I'd definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

We looked at other reviews before going and went with an app we didn't hear much about, but an entree that we did hear amazing things about. Everyone raves about the pasta and rightfully so. The noodles with the right amount of bolognese was such a flavorful comfort food. The pork belly was also delicious but the pasta hit better. I could eat the butter by the pint. The fingerlinging potato dish is also a must have...pretty small for $19 but tastes like heaven. Spicy! Zaddy was being a bit of a clutz that evening and knocked over my $20 mezcal cocktail, so what does he do? Orders me another one! (That's why he's "zaddy") ....kind of wish he hadn't...so wasn't worth the price tag. Skip it. The chicken dinner was definitely the winner--fresh, juicy breast, crispy skin...don't be cute, you won't finish it unless your party has at least 4 in it! The flies were ruthless! Very annoying! They were acting like the geekers that come bother you just outside your favorite fried chicken joint in south Dallas! Our waitress brought out a table fan so that made the experience a little more tolerable. The chocolate peanut butter pie tasted like a salt rock and the lemon chiffon pie had great flavor but not lemony enough for me. All in all this place is a bit pricey but truly a gem! The team behind the popular restaurant Nobie's opened up this tiki inspired restaurant. Tiki bars happen to be one of my favorite varieties of bars so I was more than excited to finally check it off my list. I had recently seen them on the Food Network as well. They share a lot with another popular dining spot so parking can be a little difficult in their lot. You can find street parking or park across the street in an overflow lot. Customer service was great from start to finish. We had just ate next door and our intentions were to come in here just for cocktails, but I couldn't leave without trying some of the popular items. I wanted the most tropical drink I could find on the menu so I started off with the Blue Hawaiian. I saw fire on the description so my extra self needed to have it. I'm a big rum guy so this drink was right up my alley and very boozy with two types of rum. It was very coconut forward with pineapple being the secondary flavor. One was enough for me to feel just right. Since we had just ate, we decided to share the World Famous Cheeseburger. This was a great burger. I don't know if they were going for the smash effect, but it had smash burger characteristics. It had all my favorite things that are musts on a burger like American cheese and red onions. It also had a very nice chili aioli that added great flavor to the burger. I came on another stop for a drink visit shortly after and tried the pork dumplings and popcorn chicken. These were also very good. If I lived in the area, this place would easily be a place I would frequent often. I will most definitely be back!

All were great drinks and we loved how they give you flavor characteristics of the drinks on the menu. The appetizers that we ordered were the sweet and sour cauliflower and the pork dumplings, which is why I gave this place four stars. The presentation of both appetizers were excellent. However, the pork dumplings were disappointing. They came with only six dumplings for $17, were served cold, and are very bland. In my opinion, they weren't worth the price. On the other hand, the sweet and sour cauliflower was our favorite and is definitely a must-try.

The pesto bucatini was pretty underwhelming too. It was very heavy on the mint with just a hint of pistachio crumbs, and the pesto flavor I was hoping for never really came through. Pesto pasta is usually one of my favorite dishes, but this one honestly felt like a waste of carbs. The positives were definitely the service and the atmosphere.
