As you can see I don't often review, my last one was several years ago. But I feel compelled to write one for Blackbeard's. I am a soccer mom from Brentwood, can't believe I am describing myself like that, but it the truth. My super hip, smart, on trend nephew was having an open house party at his new bungalow in Culver City. I knew everyone would bring him a bottle of wine or some scented candle type thing. I am not sure why I got beer into my head, but I know he drinks beer - beer is cool, hip and on trend like him, right? I remember passing Blackbeard's several times and even may have gone in once after Plan Check w my husband. So I went. The owner, Shayan asked if I needed help. I did! He instantly and with great enthusiasm started selecting a kind of homemade tasters 6 pack for me. Telling me about why he picked each beer and what made it special. You could feel passion oozing out of him. It was great! It is rare in retail to get someone even to look up at you , let alone service you with knowledge and verve. My new go to gift is going to be beer, and Blackbeard's Craft is where I am going to get it and for you not hip and trendy man bun wearing people, their number one selling beer is bud light! From the name/theme, decor, selection, and AMAZING customer service, it's not only the best place to shop for wine and beer, it's the BEST PLACE to visit across all of Los Angeles. Beyond the killer selection of beers (and yes they allow mixing and matching), the main attraction is Captain Blackbeard (aka Cheyenne), himself. This Los Angeles proprietor is truly a gentleman and a wealth of information - he wants to know what you're into and find you something even better based on your particular taste and his endless knowledge. It's like Pandora for booze and with a beard. Even if you're new to beer and overwhelmed by the selection (like my wife and me), it's an incredibly charming experience that is all too rare in Los Angeles. Blackbeard's is truly everything you could want in a local craft beer shop. Yes, the selection is always extensive and delicious (and almost anything that they have on the shelf is also available cold in the back - just ask!). Yes, you can discover fun new beers in an a non-pretentious space that doesn't feel reserved only for beer snobs. Most importantly, though, in the two years the shop has been open the owner Shayan has gone out of his way to make this truly be a neighborhood institution, and takes care to make it an inviting space for everyone that also gives back. This is such a great store, a Westside semi-hidden gem. Lots of interesting beers and wines to choose from. And one of the rare shops in L.A. where you can buy Lagunitas Hop Water, which is the most delicious under-the-radar drink ever. I've received a warm greeting every time I've been in and there's always someone hanging around to help people. I always feel welcome and have been treated with kindness by the people working there. Very reasonable prices all around as well and a great selection of beers and wine. I was able to find this favorite sour beer of mine I had had once in northern CA which was really cool. Always check up front to see if they've got your wine refrigerated! You can enjoy it nice and cold right away. This place is absolutely amazeballs. It's not a bad, but a market with every possible craft beer you can think of and many you never knew existed available. And almost all beers are kept cold in the back if you want it that way. You've never seen anything like this at Cost Plus or BevMo or anywhere else. This is the best beer store in Los Angeles - even better than the stalwart Sunset Beer Co. Shayan, the owner, is a fountain of knowledge and the type of small business owner that makes you want to keep coming back for recommendations and discussion. Selection includes great craft beer, wine, and sake. They also have some snacks and glassware. I usually stick to the beer, but have taken Shayan's wine suggestions for work gifts and have always gotten great feedback. As far as beer, the selection is large, rotating, delicious, includes regulars and rare beers, and is well priced. This is everything you could ask for from a beer spot. I've been going since they opened and will go til they buy a bigger spot farther from where I live. Long live Blackbeard's! read more

This place is amazing! If you want good craft beer, look no further. Their selection is huge and the owner is super cool. If there is something specific that you want and they don't have it, just talk to him and I bet he'll get it for you. There is almost no reason to go anywhere else for beer unless you're just looking for plain old Bud/Coors/Miller Light, which I'm guilty of while watching 10am NFL football.
