Service was friendly and attentive, portions were good, food was good but just didn't leave me thinking that I'd want to go back. A fun corner Irish pub with a dining area. The pub section is rockin', loud and friendly with TVs to watch the game(s). We were seated in the adjacent dining area with a gas fireplace. It would have been nice to have it on during such a cold night. The menu had a good selection pub grub and more formal entrees including a nice choice of steaks and specials at very reasonable prices. We had fish and chips, and roast loin of pork. Nothing came with salads, so we had a dinner salad. All was good. The fish was fried lightly and had flaky white fish. My pork was very tasty, but the potato pancakes were too thick, so they were on the heavy side. Overall, we enjoyed the meals and look forward to returning. The lack of a fifth star is due to the minimal parking in the area and the roar of the crowd inside. But boy, the Guinness was creamy and wonderful. read more

If your within 5-10 miles of this place this is where you want to be on a sunny day sitting outside drinking a brew and munching on some tasty food. You can hear the train pull up and watch as people flow back into Rutherford while you then take bets on who will walk into the pub after a long day of work in the city. I've been here a handful of times since moving into the area and I must say that from the staff to the food to the location Blarney Station offers an amazing experience. From what I explored on the menu so far I can vouch for the deliciousness of the French Dip sandwich, Curry Chips (so good sometimes I order them instead of the fries) , Chicken Ranch Wrap, all the Sliders, man honestly you won't be disappointed with the food here that's for sure. read more

I was very happy with my experience! A group of friends and I first came in after an event at the Williams Center so it was around 11 and the service and quality is what I would expect at peak hours. The service was very timely and friendly for our whole group for food and drinks. The food was great! We got an appetizer platter and the pretzels, which were a good portion for sharing. The pretzels were so warm and fresh, delicious! I then had the (I believe it was called) Blarney burger. Cooked to the right temperature and the Irish bacon, so good. I can definitely say Blarney Station will become a regular spot for me! read more

Quintessential old school Irish pub. Came here one night off the train to pass some time before going out to eat. You can't miss the place as it is about 25 yards from the station in Rutherford. Very welcoming environment and was treated like a regular from the moment I walked in. This place seems to be frequented by the same usual suspects as everyone in the place that night knew each other. After a few beers, the older gentleman who was bartending (can't remember his name) offered to buy me a shot which I happily accepted. I love Blarney Station. The food is great. Irish Breakfast is spot on, as are the Bangers and Mash. The Nutty Irishman sandwich is amazing. Fish and chips are tasty, flaky. Love it all. I would give them a solid 5 stars, but there are a few things I would change. They don't have much in the way of Cider. While I appreciate their beer selection, I prefer a proper cider, and they don't have a lot. What they do have is a bit overpriced. They smacked me $8 for a bottle of domestic cider. I expect to pay a bit more for booze here, but that's steep. The atmosphere, is lacking for me. I really love a good trivia night, or a celtic jam night. Irish sing along? There are a lot of TVs, and they're tuned to American sports. As a fan of other Irish Pubs (like the Ri Ra) I just want a bit more. I miss the camaraderie of a good limerick night. But even with the down bits, Blarney is a solid 4 stars. Highly recommended. read more

I always enjoy coming to the Blarney Station. Due to the recent changes in wait staff and bartenders I feel that the service took a hit. Six months ago I would have given the Blarney 4 stars. I used to frequent the bar area more often but since the departure of Joe, the bar area hasn't been the same. Joe made it feel like a 'Cheers' environment where everyone knows your name. Parking is very tricky. Especially on the weekend. It's across the street from the Train station. Decent outside seating when the weather is warm. Very small sidewalk area but it does have a tv. Very good beer selection. Pub fare is good. I still come here for a few appetizers, dinner, and drinks. They make an excellent fresh turkey BLT wrap. I was recently at the Blarney New Year's Eve and they celebrate Irish New Years. Thought they did a better job last year. The wait staff needs to step it up. Very slow and frequently getting our orders wrong. Taking too much time getting drinks. I prefer the girls that have been working at the Blarney for a while like Kathleen who does an excellent job. The Blarney does serve an excellent brunch on Sunday. I prefer the American Breakfast. I will continue to have dinner there from time to time. Hopefully the Blarney can step it up and be back where they used to be. It's what to expect from an Irish pub. read more

I'm happy to say this is one of the few Irish bars in the area that don't try to be too "Oirish" and fake. It's clear the owner cares about the customers and the decor, and it shows. Sure you can get Corned Beef & Cabbage here, and the Nutty Irishman sandwich (which I highly recommend) but there are many authentic dishes here too.. Bangers and Mash, Shepard's Pie are some of the best. For a real taste of Ireland.. order a pint of whatever you like an order of Curry fries, they're not on the proper menu (yet, please?) but they're out of this world! Good beer selection. Last time I came here, they were running a promotion on Brooklyn beers and I won the raffle! This is definitely a neighborhood bar with a laid back atmosphere. They have high top tables and an L-shaped bar. Food wise: their wings are decent (more vinegary than spicy). I really liked their reuben sliders and their chili. They serve their chili in a crock and melt cheddar cheese on top. The first time I saw it, I thought it was french onion soup. The chili is on the salty side but it tasted really good. I actually think the beans were the best part of that chili. Overall, a dependable bar to go and hang out with friends. read more

Tried the Blarney Station for lunch in early May of this year. Appetizer: French Onion Soup. Comments: Extremely Salty Entre: Basic Description from the main menu: Chicken Cutlet with angel hair pasta and melted Mozzarella cheese. Note: I asked that the pasta be placed on the side. Comments: The dish was one, homogenous mess of tomato sauce.The pasta was buried beneath the chicken, not on the side. All of this was covered with at least 3/8" of semi-melted mozzarella cheese. I attempted to eat the mess yet was turned off by the presentation and the degree of difficulty needed to weed through the ingredients. I asked the server to return it to the kitchen, placing the pasta in a separate dish, and remove the mozzarella from the plate. Upon returning my plate, the "chef" did, in fact, place the pasta in it's own dish. What remained in my larger plate was a 7" diameter of tomato sauce at least 3/4" of an inch thick. You could not see anything beneath the sauce. Frankly, my initial thought was that this second mess was presented to me intentionally. There was no offer to compensate me on the check. I paid and made a note not to return. (A second [opened] bottle of beer was placed in front of me without me asking for it; standard bar strategy to increase cash flow.) read more

As a bar, quite small size, but the selection of beer is decent, typical domestics and nice selection of imports. Crowd is a mix of sleepy early 30s to tired mid 40s people from the area, but generally a bar full of normal local folk looking to relax and have an afterwork drink, not the type of bar you go to with a group of friends looking to have a fun local night out. A bit pricey for the location and demographic, they don't really have any sort of specials, but neither do the 2 bars less than a hundred yards away, think they think because so many people who work and commute to NYC via the very close train station are in the area they can charge a bit more. The food though (at least the blarney burger) is top notch. Huge, juicy, fresh, mountain of bar fries, and it's about 10 bucks. Seeing as i live only 5 minutes walking from here, I really wanted to love this bar, to have a little local dive of my own, but the pricing and sleepiness of the older crowd just turns me off. Go for the burger and a few brews and sit outside on a nice day, besides that, you're not missing much at all. read more

The place is cozy, with good atmosphere. Nice selection of beers. There is a bar area and a few tables - gets a bit too loud if sitting at a table I think and unless you're yelling, not an idea place to hold a conversation. The bar area is a bit more conducive to a private conversation believe it or not - an opportunity to sit closer I guess. The food was ok - we ordered off the special menu, prime rib and beef short ribs. The prime rib was good, could be a tad bit more tender but overall nice flavor. The short ribs were too tough and soooo salty, wasn't really a fan. I also ordered a french onion soup - I can't say I didn't enjoy it (even with it being too salty as well) but it definitly did not taste like a "regular" french onion soup. Service is Slow!! Ordered a 'special' filet mignon. Asked if it was spicy waitress said NO. Well it was definitely spicy. Husband ordered New York strip which was wonderful We switched steaks, seeing how mine was spicy & his was not. Both came with broccoli which was fresh but cold & hard. We did have tomato soup which was very tasty. There were people who came in after us and received their good first! When the waitress finally brought us the food - we never seen her again. Love the food here! Irish pubs typically consistently deliver a quality food product. However, the service was non-existent. A waitress (Jessica) started taking our order then spent 15 minutes eating, and talking with two of her Co workers. Then she went and changed clothes so I'm assuming she was off? Hard to tell because she sat on her phone texting the rest of the time. But it took forever for anyone else to help us. Never once did a server check on us after delivering food. And after clearing the table we literally waited another 15 minutes just for them to give us a check. Maybe it was an off night and I'll definitely try again. But poor service could've easily been avoided as it was not even a busy night. read more

This is a bar, and I'm giving it 3.75 stars for food, and I am as flabbergasted as you are. The food was great, and the service was fast and easy. I would go back. It's still a bar, so it was a bit loud, but I saw people with kids at one of the tables, an elderly couple at another, and overall it wasn't crazy. Some men watched sports boisterously at the bar; some ladies met up for drinks all dressed up. It's a bar. It's not super fine dining. But I'd rather eat here than Applebees, Red Robin's, and other bar-y places based on this first visit. We went at 6 PM on a Saturday. We walked right in and sat down. A waitress came immediately. We didn't have any liquor, just soda, and my diet coke tasted a little over-syruped. I ordered a queen-sized filet mignon with double vegetables and Gaelic sauce. There was no problem skipping the rice/potatoes/starch and getting double veggies. The steak was cooked to my order; rare, rare, rare. It was perfect. Meaty taste, meltingly soft texture, and $22 for 8 oz. I was really satisfied. The Gaelic sauce was a whiskey cream sauce that was just meh, but the bonus is that it came with mushrooms, onions, and peppers in the sauce, which I mixed with my squash vegetables. My partner got the shepherd's pie. He is Irish and orders it frequently at restaurants. Usually, it is disappointing and bland. It was really good here. I tried it and agreed. The loose meat/onion/pea mixture was nicely flavored, then topped with potatoes, then topped with gravy. I liked the meat enough I snuck another forkful. There was no gravy in that layer, just juices and flavor. The gravy on top of the potatoes was a bit deadened in flavor to my palate but not bad. The portion was very generous - a dish the size of a football. Our bill was $40-50. I'd go back. I usually hate bars but I didn't feel uncomfortable. We were in and out fast, our food was good, prices were good, and service was good. read more

Through Stepping Out magazine I found out that this Irish pub was having a German beer night. I had two Brooklyn Pennant Ales on tap before switching to the Franzen-something Weiss Beer for the festivites. I was able to get a free hat and a free shirt because of my tap choice. We got there and was told probably about a 10min wait for a table for 4 in the dining area. Great! A group of 6 little league baseball players and 5 adults came in, needing a table of 11. A group of 8 in the dining area left and so the waitress proceeded to set the table for 11. Then a table of 4 became available because this sweet old man saw that at this point I've been waiting for 30mins while the table set for 11 remained EMPTY as the party wasn't ready as the adults were having drinks at the bar while the kids had their faces glued to iPads. But guess what? Instead of giving me the table, the waitress set that table for 5. Why??? Because the party of 11 wanted a separate table of 5 for adults and 6 for kids. SEPARATE table on a SATURDAY NIGHT! Then she had the audacity to tell me they called ahead! Are you kidding me right now?? I tried calling they said no call ahead. I was told 10min wait for a table. Then a party of 11 came AFTER me but were given not 1 but TWO sets tables because they called ahead and had unreasonable demands (separate table for adults and kids!?!) You've just lost a regular customer because of your shitty service. And I'll be sure to let everyone know how you treat your regular customers. Whenever the male waiter with the beard (sorry dude I can't remember your name) isn't there, this place falls apart. And yes, the waitress whom I had to deal with is Allison.
