Very surprised to learn this place has food?? I lived downtown for years, frequent Irish bars, and didn't not know that. The service was friendly, but slow. The food was good, but not great. And the drinks were okay. I will say that I think this is a fine establishment you will probably have a good time at, but that I wouldn't think to recommend it nor do I think I'll be back anytime soon. Came down to San Diego for the weekend to catch the Giants game and soak up the good vibes. The entire trip was fantastic--right up until I decided to check this place out on my last night. I walked in and there were maybe eight people in the entire place. I sat down and had to wait while the bartender finished a lengthy conversation with the guy next to me about how she moved here from Vegas and hates living in San Diego. When she finally acknowledged me, there was zero friendliness--just a cold, unbothered "What do you want?" vibe. For a place that was practically empty, making a paying customer feel like an inconvenience is wild. I finished my beer and got out of there. San Diego is an incredible city, but this spot definitely earns its low rating. Save your time and head somewhere that actually wants your business. read more

We went here on a Thursday night. This is an interesting place. They have a "meeting area" in the back, and this night, they had a stand-up comedy session with local people. It seemed very ad hoc, and people could sign up to do stand-up. They have a Thai restaurant as part of the pub. We tried the food with drunken noodles, and sweet and sour chicken. Both dishes were great. We had edamame and spring rolls for appetizers. They have a great selection of beers, both bottled and on tap. The blonde bartender/waitress with the black glasses was super rude. We got our ID's checked at the door and then we sit down and she asks for our ID's again. Tried this place despite the low star review. Thoroughly impressed. Exceptionally clean for a dark, wooden (and therefore traditional) Irish pub. Service from Betsy was exceptional. When not entertaining, Betsy was hard at work deep scrubbing the taps (a pet peeve of mine). The Jameson forward mule tasted awesome; the space dust cold in a frosted glass. This review is for the pub area. I was expecting more of an Irish feel, but it didn't seem to capture that vibe. It was a bit dusty and divey, and empty on the day that we were there. Maybe it was too early for a Friday (5:00 pm), but it was pretty much dead with no patrons in the bar. The bartender came over to talk to us for a bit. Went to this during the Super Bowl. It was before halftime and I had plenty of time to wander and look for a better venue. Why'd I settle here the bar had room. Go figure. Got some beer and wings. Our drinks came with no alcohol. We ordered two beers on tap at $14 each and two well drinks at $14 each but the well drinks had zero alcohol. We thought it was suspicious that she walked all the way back to the bar out of sight to make our drinks. When we got them we noticed there was no alcohol flavor at all. Our bartender was a blonde with glasses. I confronted her in a nice way and said our drinks don't have alcohol. She smelled the drink look irritated and grabbed the Bacardi bottle and poured half a shot. She took my Moscow mule to the back and came back with a cup the looked topped off. I don't recommend this place at all! Don't waste your money or time. We should have known when we saw the entire place was empty. There's tons of other places to go. read more

I stopped in with some friends was we were walking around Gaslamp. It's a classic Irish Pub on the inside. It has a cute wall mural of Ireland and a baseball collection, which is perfect with the stadium so close. The bartender, Betsy, was really nice! She's easy to talk to and has great stories. She recommended the peach long island iced tea to my friend and it was really good! The Guinness was good too and served in a Guinness glass. We had fun! read more

The drinks were good, service was ok, and the food was pathetic. Came on Saint Patrick's Day and the Thai restaurant next door was seating people in their space as over flow seating. Our waitress was good, she brought out our Irish coffees and Guinness beers, took our order but then immediately brought out the bill and left it on the table which we thought was weird. When we were almost finished eating, she insisted we cash out which made us feel like the Thai staff didn't trust anyone and thought we were going to do a dine and dash is the vibe we got. My girlfriend had their fish n chips and said the fish was just ok as they were only 3 small pieces, nothing special. I had their corned beef sandwich and it was pathetic. It was more of a grilled cheese as there was hardly any corned beef on it, maybe one small piece at best. Not to mention, they used American sliced cheese and tasted like sliced kraft or velveeta and did not good with the very small amount of corned beef. The only good part of our meals were the fries as they were fresh and hot. The Irish coffees were really good and so were the Guinness beers but that was about it. We were not wanted. I may have at times denial when I am not welcomed but then I run into instances like this where it becomes painfully obvious that I am unwanted and when my party of three visited here it was that painfully obvious. Maybe it was the crowds. Maybe it was the heat. Maybe our waitress was having a bad night but whatever it was it left us feeling more than a bit in the cold. We weren't done being on the street taking in San Diego and no one else had any available tables. Restaurant after restaurant explained they wouldn't get us in before last call so we kept exploring. We came upon this restaurant and immediately were given indication that our presence wasn't entirely welcomed when our waitress pointed out our table near the middle of the road with a dismissive hand wave. When she finally came up to us she asked if we were there for drinks or food. As the question was posed with an "or" my friend thought that was an option and said just drinks. Our waitress angrily told us we had to order food to get drinks. We ordered fries. They were ok, a bit cold. We were able to order a couple rounds of drinks and while the pours were generous and the drinks stiff every time our waitress came by she never hid her contempt for our table. We ended the night here and luckily this was an off experience but it certainly was one I wouldn't want to repeat. read more

The fried fish here is much the same. Most of what I taste is salty beer batter. Batter isn't bad. Fish has that dry chewy texture and flavor you get from leaving meat in the freezer too long. The french fries were ok. Standard fast food type fry. Crunchy with good potato flavor. Slight oil aftertaste. Oil probably needs to be changed pretty soon. Orange slice was too tangy for my taste. I'm guessing it wasn't quiet ripe... Slice of watermelon was fresh and sweet. Happy hour is long but the only beer that is discounted is Bud Lite. Best part of the experience was it was easy to get seated on a Saturday evening, relax, and people watch. The places I like around around here were all packed. read more

On our recent visit, the place was filled with about 30 guys in Lou Dobbs and Chris Mathews-looking dress shirts and ties, all drinking Guinesses like they were the last pour from the keg. Their corpulent girth made passage around the bar nearly impossible. I finally stepped on one of their Johnston & Murphy Men's Stratton Woven Tassel shoes to get his attention, and spilled a little beer on his cuff. "Apologies, Guv'nah! Basic old fashion Irish Pub in the heart of the Gaslamp. Many claim they pour the best Guinness Stout pint and I have to agree! Great Irish fare prepared superbly! I've visited this pub many times and have enjoyed the Shepherd's Pie and the Irish Burger among other dishes. During my most recent visit I split the entrees with a buddy. We ordered Fish & Chips and Irish Corned Beef on Rye Bread. Each entree came with a generous portion of chips (fries) that were superior to any fries I ever had. The fish and sandwich were excellent and a good size portion! The bartender is a transplant from Boston and provides great service along with lively conversation. If you're in the area I highly recommend you stop in and enjoy a pint! read more
