The selection of beers available is truly terrific, and they have a great option for a flight to sample a bunch. That is pretty great. We also enjoyed our food. I had a lobster BLT with a helping of waffle fries while my husband had spicy cheese curds. Good food and nice portion sizes overall. Why just 4 stars not 5? The service was a bit stilted. Maybe it's the end of season, but we had long pauses between service which elongated the experience. We were at the bar, so it was a bit of an odd experience given that it wasn't super busy. The first time I came was a great experience. Johnni was an excellent bartender who made one of the best drinks I've had. $15 for five buffalo shrimp seems a little pricey, however. The second time we came I had brought my husband with me and we asked to sit at one of the tables all of which were empty and they told us we were not allowed to sit there if we were only getting drinks. I explained to the bartender that he has circulation issues with his legs, and can't sit at high top tables. They still said if we were not eating, we were not allowed to. We had not planned on being there more than 30 minutes and we would have gotten up if they needed the table. I did not see the issue when the entire restaurant was empty. This is bad customer service and you lost a customer because we left. I can understand having this role when it is busy, but if the entire restaurant is empty, and there's not a single table set, you should be able to make an exception for somebody who is handicap. next time we will lie and say we're going to eat and then just change our minds. read more

We devoured the pretzel (incredible mustard and beer cheese chips), the lobster waffle fries (which were even better with a little extra salting), and the Nachos (if you're a chili fan, you'll love these). Hey, all things considered we had a good lunch here on a very typically busy day in Bar Harbor. The large restaurant is right on Main Street and has seating on the rooftop, inside and on a covered patio (where we ate). The patio is right by the sidewalk, so it's terrific for people watching while you're eating or drinking. They have a fine beer list of locals and imported, so enjoy. It's casual dining, to be sure, but our lunch was tasty: a BLT ($13) that was stuffed with yummy tomatoes and crispy bacon on nicely toasted bread; a chili bowl ($10) just spicy enough; and a cup of New England clam chowder ($8), quite agreeable and not as thick and jammed with potatoes as we've found elsewhere. It took a while to get service, but once started it was ok. They have a big menu and we (obviously) sampled only a few items. read more

We stopped in given its great location on a corner with outdoor seating. I typically roll my eyes at the reviews that complain about the hostess but this one deserves a dishonorable mention. She was so unwelcoming, we nearly left. Told us we could only sit inside if we were not buying food. We were having a wonderful time on September 20th when we unfortunetly came in an encounter with one of your employees's named Johnnie the bartender. My partner and I were having a private conversation when he rudely interupted and gave his uncalled for opinion. He did not agree with my partner and gave his nasty comment's that were neither asked for or warranted as it was a private conversation. He never came back to us to ask us if we wanted another beer or food , just stood at end of bar on his phone. When we finally got the bill , he threw it at my partner and said" DON"T COME BACK" and ran to the other side of the bar. What a total nasty , vile person. Every one is entitled to their opinion when asked but it was a private conversation The outside staff that we originally were sitting at were pleasant and Paige came back several times to ask if we needed anything . We made the fatal mistake to go inside at the bar as it was getting chilly where we had the terrible encounter with Johnnie. Johnnie was unprofessional and needs a course on dealing with the public. Great food!! We went twice during our 3 day stay - it was that good. We the Bacon Jam Burger & Waffle Fries, as well as the Farmer's Salad. My husband said the burger was one of the best he's ever had & that's saying a lot since it's his go to item to order everywhere we go. The salad was served in a 12" bowl and was HUGE. Filled with veggies & goodies. It made people stop on the street. I came home and bought all of the same ingredients to recreate it. THAT GOOD! How does a non drinker end up in a place with "beer works" in the name?! Because EVERYTHING in downtown Bar Harbor was on and poppin this evening. After being hit with daunting wait times at multiple establishments, I happily ducked in here when the hostess said she could seat me in only 20 minutes. Now don't let that fool you, this place is super popular as well! They happen to have a larger seating capacity than most places nearby. I was definitely not disappointed to find myself at beer works. The menu enticed me with multiple yummy options. I ended up going "Maine meets inner child" with the lobster Mac and cheese. The pasta was super creamy and the lobster exceptionally fresh and plentiful. Nice large pieces of lobster were present in every mouthful. Only slight issue w this place was the bizarre use of plastic ware being used for dine in patrons. I am not sure if this is due to covid but if it's safe for the bar to serve people in actual glassware, I'd say it's safe to use real utensils. Regardless of the reason, I find it wasteful and weird. I mean, I would prefer to eat a $30 bowl of Mac and cheese with a real fork, but this is how they roll I guess. Service was good. Options plentiful. And great food. The first time my husband and I hit up Beer Works years ago he remembers the Mac Attack burger very fondly. We always hit up Beer Works when we are in Bar Harbor but every time since then the food has been just mediocre. Maybe we were just REALLY hungry that first time? During our most recent visit to Bar Harbor we had lunch one day at Beer Works. I always like the beer I order there (which has been mostly the Atlantic Blueberry Ale). Our server was extremely attentive and very nice, she made our lunch very lovely. We also sat outside on their porch area which was nice as well. We ordered the blueberry habanero wings to start and they were very plain and somewhat dry, with no real blueberry habanero flavor or sauce taste to them at all. My husband ordered the mac attack, but with chicken this time, and it still didn't really deliver. I had a bowl of their seafood chowder, which was pretty decent - definitely filled me up. The kids had the Mac and Cheese which is pretty basic. They do offer many options to choose from, but I just feel like they don't really have any stand out food. They are kid friendly which we always appreciate but the food just doesn't hold up like you want it to. read more

Food was decent, but our waiter made my wife cry. I ordered a burger and she ordered a kids fish and chips, but when it came out it was the full size meal. She is pregnant currently and can only handle so much, and the waiter did not correct us on not being able to have kids meals (normally for 12 & under). It may have been because of what we ordered, and the fact that it wasn't seafood, considering the venue is located near the harbor/ ocean --but the chicken wings we got were not worth $20, nor were they any good at all. If you're used to wings from anywhere else, DO NOT order these. You will not be happy... they came out hot, but we're the smallest and most processed wings I've ever eaten. They reminded me of frozen store bought chicken wings. More breading than meat. You could tell they didn't bread the wings and purchased them as they were. Because of how hot they came out, there isn't a doubt they were fried. Aside, the service was also not the best. Because of the overwhelming beer selection, I needed a second to decide what I wanted. They have quite the selection for those that care and are into that. I personally ordered the Blueberry Ale which was quite delicious and satisfying. The friend I was with ordered his beer (Michelob) and was brought it immediately. After I ordered mine, it only arrived maybe 2 minutes before my wings. There must have been a 10 minute delay after I placed my drink order. All I'll say is that if it would have arrived sooner, I would have ordered 1 or maybe 2 more drinks. *Tip to the owner/ management... I'd recommend trying the blueberry ale, just not the wings (or other food) as I'm sure it's right on the same quality. I'd try another place before giving this place another try. read more
