This is one of the coolest spots in all of Baton Rogue! It's a little tricky to get to because it's under a highway overpass, but definitely worth the hunt. Very modern/hip decor and a very inventive food menu. We stuck to the small plates and they did not disappoint. Do not miss the braised short ribs over polenta! Our server was extremely friendly and professional; being out-of-towners her insights about the city were much appreciated. The entire area around BLDG 5 has a unique urban vibe. Healthy trendy cooked-to-perfection food. One of the few places in br where you can eat and not feel bricks in your stomach afterward. The steak and potatoes board is a 10/10 and so is the Stracciatella cheese appetizer (perfect to start and share with 2-4 ppl). The chimichurri on the steak board is amaaaazing. Lots of options and worth it for being slightly pricey. The ambiance is great: it's a cool area so you enjoy just sitting and hanging out. Had an amazing bartender: long brown hair, maybe his name was Jacob? Could be wrong. But he said he has long time cocktail experience and made me something off menu, a tart citrus vodka martini that was a twist off of a cosmo just not too sweet. Some of the food I used to think you could just cook at home, but I'm wrong, they truly cook it to perfection. Also love the Caesar-ish salad! read more

And the drinks are the best part. The spicy marg is a staple. The only downside is it is expensive for the type of restaurant it is. We visited the for the first time on a Wednesday night. Map directions brought us to the wrong side of the overpass, but I read other reviews about literally parking under the bridge so we made our way to the other side of the road and located the restaurant. It was very nice outside, so we opted to sit in the courtyard and listen to the live music. The musician was "Caitlyn Renee, Acoustic", and she was fantastic. Just the right vibe for sitting outside under the moon. My one complaint was our server seemed a little reluctant to engage with us. She was polite and answered all our questions, but didn't elaborate or help guide us to things we might enjoy. We settled on the Harvest Board for (1) and Bldg 5 Original sandwich with chicken. When the food came out I was very impressed how attractively it was plated and everything had a very fresh "farm to table" taste. The bread on both our plates was outstanding, the dips were delicious, and who knew roasted carrots could be so delicious! Even though I ordered the Harvest Board for one, I had a lot leftover. I have always been treated well and I have never had a problem with the servers here. The ambiance is always great. Pretty good place for a date and for a normal hangout. Spectacular We love going to bldg5 for lunch - such a cute spot and the food is . We got the steak salad with a side of Brussels sprouts. A cup of Tom Kha Gai and a side of their homemade potato chips. The service was quick and exceptional - we were there for 3 hours catching up and never felt rushed. Couldn't recommend this place more! Only sorry I didn't get any of their homemade prepackaged food they have in the coolers! read more

Right off the bat: the food wasn't the issue. It was decent. Nothing too exciting, but just okay. The caesar salad was pretty good, but the Bldg 5 original sandwich was a bit on the dry side. Here is why this restaurant gets a 2: immediately upon entering, the girl working the front just looked at us like for a solid 5 seconds. Uhhh okay awkward (Like hello? Can we eat here or no?). We then asked if we could get a table for two and she said yes and walked us over. Then we have our waitress. The vibe was honestly just so off. She felt really dismissive and like she could not care less. Her answers were so short and just dismissive that I felt like I offended her with my presence. And you know what? Maybe that was it. Looking around it was predominantly non-POC eating there and working there, and I felt a little uncomfortable, especially when comparing how she spoke to us and how she spoke to others (she was a lot nicer to those who were not minorities...if you catch my drift) (and yes, she was yt). Went here for my Mom's birthday and it was perfect! We went during lunch and sat outside. It was warm but we were still able to enjoy our food without being uncomfortable. Our server greeted us quickly and stopped by often during our meal to check on us. I got the Beet salad with Tuna and my Mom got the Italian Caprese salad. We both found our meals to be delicious and I had leftovers. My Mom also got a complimentary chocolate chip cookie for her birthday. It was so good. As a baker I was surprised at the quality. Incredible service, incredible ambiance, and amazing food Crab cake - best crab cake we have had and the side salad that came with it was super tasty with a wonderful dressing Chicken gumbo - best gumbo we have had. Thai soup - was very good. Probably wouldn't order it again, but it was tasty Grilled cheese with substitute of tomatoe basil soup. The grilled cheese was delicious and what I was wanting. The tomato basil soup was my least favorite thing we had and was more chunky like a marinara sauce than a bisque. This is a must try if you're ever in Baton Rouge! Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and recommended great bites! The amount of food for the value is amazing and I had enough food to have lunch the next day! We started off with the short ribs, crab cakes, and bacon jam appetizers. The short ribs were delicious! The grits needed a little more seasoning/salt because they were a bit bland. The bacon jam was a little more runny than our Texas version that has a stiffer consistency, but I loved the goat cheese sauce on top. The Harvest Board was absolutely fire!!! I love my veggies...the naan and sauce accompaniments were the perfect touch! I also ordered a piece of salmon to add some extra protein. I wanted to try the dessert board, but we were stuffed to the brim! The server brought over a fly fan, but the flies were trying to enjoy the meal with us. This place is so different and I love it. A board of food you can easily split with others. The steak and sauce were excellent. A lot going on in the place as they are selling merchandise too. I love everything about this place! Always a top contender for me when picking where I want to go eat. There are so many options that you can either choose from or make your own. The food is always delicious, and the staff is always awesome! Of course, I had to get my favorite drink here, the seasonal sangria. Normally, not a huge sangria fan, but this one I could order all night... so smooth to drink! This one tasted peachy, which I loved. Pretty sure they also make this in house and keep out to display in the bar. For my second drink, I got the mule, such an aestheticially pleasing drink... defintely like the sangria more, but it was good!! This time, I got the powerhouse salad with no protein, and it actually filled me up. The portion sizes are pretty big to me. There are so many things on this salad, it all just perfectly works together! I love the quinoa and the lemon vinaigrette they put on it. It is right under the overpass, so it is great if you want to walk around or go out after. There are plenty of seating options both inside and outside, with there being a top deck patio outside too. BLDG5 is a wonderful, and largely hidden gem in Baton Rouge. As others have noted, the parking situation is about as straightforward as doing Russian trigonometry in German, but once you find somewhere to tuck your vehicle you're in for a treat. The service is impeccable. The decor is a delight to the eyes without overwhelming or distracting. And the menu is one of those rare treats where I can close my eyes and pick something at random, and I'm fairly certain that I'm going to enjoy it. The chef does a wonderful job of drawing from a variety of culinary traditions to create unique and tasty dishes. This is a spot that Baton Rouge foodies need to pay attention to. read more
