Loved it! I came in by myself and didn't feel like the wait staff treated me any different than if I were two people. So because of that, I instantly liked this place. I wanted something a bit lighter for my appetizer and ended up getting the octopus. I've eaten quite a bit of the stuff and have never had anything as tender as their steamed version. Not sure if this will make sense, but it had the same texture as mozzarella. Meaning it was smooth and creamy-like, instead of chewy. Total mind f. Then I ordered the duck breast and foie gras. It's extremely rich but well-balanced. There's enough acid from the vinaigrette on the salad that it cuts right through that delicious fatty taste. The kumquats and grapes were a nice touch but the whipped parsnip and broccolini were definitely my favorite. Overall, everything was pretty damn perfect in my book. read more

Bliss! You were outstanding. I chose this spot to celebrate my birthday while in town for the weekend, and I'm so glad I did! My husband and I started with their bone marrow and tartare dish. The fatty marrow really complemented the freshness of the tartare, so it wasn't overly rich. We then mentioned to our server that we'd be "sharing" our two main dishes, so he kindly offered to course out our meal and split each dish. I'm so happy they did this for us! They sent out the red snapper with risotto first. This was by far the best dish I've had in a long time. The sauces on the plate were just gorgeous. We then had their tenderloin dish. I liked it but I found the combo of pickled cauliflower, chimichurri, and Serrano peppers were all similar in flavor. Still a tasty dish but the fish was the star. We ended our meal with the chocolate bar, which was exactly what it promised -- a chocolate dream. I also want to shoutout the service again for bringing a birthday card over. It was very thoughtful. Bliss was recommended by the Concierge at Hotel Emma. We loved it! My notes:- arugula/radicchio salad was incredible, oyster sliders were yummy (you get 4 small), no cocktails but get the mini bottle of moscato if you like sweet wines (my wife), CA Cab by the glass was terrific. scallops and beef tenderloin were good but we might - consider ordering something different next time, plenty of parking - drive is about 15 min from hotel emma, leave room for butter cake!!!! This place is small, quaint, and gorgeous! Perfect for a date night. The food is heavenly and worth the price. We've gone here at least 3 times and each time the food was delicious and service is excellent. With all three times we've gone we had the corn tempura, George Banks Sea Scallops, Charcuterie, Roasted bone marrow with beef tenderloin tartare, Chocolate bar and Butter cake for dessert. The corn tempura was a sweet surprise and fun to eat. Sea scallops melted in my mouth and were absolutely cooked to perfection. Nothing worse then over cooked sea food but Bliss gets it correct. Roasted bone marrow was very good. I will say that the beef tenderloin over powered the bone marrow and for my taste I would have preferred the flavor of the marrow over the beef tartare but I will not remove a star for this as that is my preference. The Charcuterie is one of the best I've ever had. I'm happy the have honeycomb and part of the additions to your meats and cheeses of choice. Not many places offer that here in San Antonio, but it a wonderful pairing with meats and cheeses. The chocolate bar was so rich in dark chocolate and the popcorn was a fun edition and unexpected perfect pairing with the chocolate and I love dark chocolate. If your a chocolate lover then this is a must try. The butter cake was my favorite of the two desserts I've had there. The contrast of cold ice cream to warm freshly baked butter bake is a must. The entire dish is superb with all the different textures from the bourbon candy glass to the crème fraiche ice cream and warm buttery cake! You can't go wrong with this dessert. read more

Ate here during restaurant week, summer 2019: Open Table said casual, but please believe: this was a classy establishment. Every guy had a collar, so leave the graphic tee at home, the extra effort getting ready will be well-worth it. Every moment of dining at Bliss was enjoyable. Even the parking lot was surprisingly ordered and spacious for downtown. I don't usually gush about service but this place went so far beyond my usual dining experience that I cant help myself: The door was opened for us ten yards before entering and we were politely greeted as we walked in. Our host found our reservation and seated us with a beautiful view near a courtyard window. I think we had two servers, a lead and a support server. Like a housekeeper on a cruise, these servers were were everywhere but almost invisible. Food appeared. Empty plates disappeared. A fresh origami napkin materialized before I even knew my used one had hit the floor.  When a fork was used for one item, it was magically replaced with a shiny new fork for the next item. They must have had a spotter behind a plant, because they were anticipating things before they happened. And as you might guess at this point in the review, the food was outstanding. I have a big appetite, but the small plates were loaded with big flavor. A place like this makes me think lesser restaurants compensate for boring bland food with bigger sloppier portions. Nothing sloppy about Bliss. Each bite appealed to all the senses. And if it's any indication of quality, while I'm usually against sweets of any type, the sorbet finisher was probably my favorite course of the evening.  It wasn't cheap, but we got so much more than a belly full of food. read more

We were extremely excited to eat here and see if it lived up to the hype. I was shocked they didn't serve liquor but didn't really care. The ceviche was delicious although the plantain chips were soggy with all the liquid in the dish. All of our entrees were exceptionally presented and delicious. After was where the 3 stars come in. We weren't offered dessert for 10 minutes as our empty dishes remained on the table nor did our waiter check in one time after entrée delivery. Did a lot of research for the places in San Antonio for dinner and this one was at the top of list, very much matching expectations on just how freaking good it was. From start to finish, it was a great meal with an awesome location, attentive staff and just all-round well-crafted menu and drinks pairings. Had the bone marrow tartare to start as well as the duck as the main. Was savory, delicious and a caliber of cooking you don't see often nor expect in a town like San Antonio. Wow. Omg. Love. That was my reaction to basically every dish we had. My boyfriend and I had our late Valentine's Day dinner here and it did not disappoint! FOOD: *Oyster Sliders: 5/5. I usually don't like fried oysters because there's always more batter than meat. These were fantastic! The oysters were so meaty and fresh. The biscuits were fluffy and soft. And the brown butter hollandaise brought out all the flavor. Oh my. *Duck Foie Gras: 5/5. WOW, A MUST! The duck was cooked SO PERFECTLY, it was probably the best I've ever had. The foie gras just melts in your mouth. And the sweet potato puree was marvelous. The brussel sprouts were steamed, I kinda wish they were baked or fried but it paired well with the sweet potato puree. *Pork & Beans: 4/5. The pork literally fell off the bone. It was so tender and soft, full of flavor. You could tell how fresh the vegetables were, it was amazing. The beans were jumbo sized and actually tasted like potatoes. It was so good! *Fried Sweet Potato Pie: 4/5. They kinda looked like empanadas. The sweet potato oozed out of the warm crispy pastry. It was paired with a little scoop of cinnamon ice cream with bits of almonds inside. I wish the scoop of ice cream was bigger but it was great overall. SERVICE: On point. Our server was amazing! So quick and attentive. Our waters were constantly getting refilled. The boss lady even checked up on us to see if our dining experience was going well. AMBIANCE: Dark, intimate, and rustic. Amazing!! My first time at this restaurant but definitely not my last. I ordered from the Pre-fix menu. Although the waitress said the portions would be slightly smaller, I could tell the difference between my plates and the plates of friends who ordered from the dinner menu. A must have are the scallops. My dinner companions spike non-stop about this dish and they were right. Fabulous!! Scallions are cooked perfectly and served over cheese grits. Woo hoo!! read more

San Antonio lacks fine dining options but this place is worth trying, at least once. The atmosphere was semi-intimate but was not commensurate with the music, the setting nor the food. The food, while smaller portions, which is expected in higher end quality food, was the selling point to return in the future. The music was not appropriate for the environment nor did it match the quality of the food and I would recommend to a more intimate instrumental, maybe classical, maybe something zen-like; the food and wine prices speak "fancy" for San Antonio standards but the music just is not on par. If the restaurant is looking for a more hip, eclectic vibe, then I would recommend changing the food so things flow together in a better fashion. For a table of two, you definitely find yourself unusually far from the person you are dining with, and we felt bad asking to move to a four-seat table but we were there to be close, dress up and enjoy a higher-end setting, which the table made for two just missed the mark for our desired end state. Bottom Line: I would recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to celebrate togetherness outside of the norm for this town atmosphere found here; definitely a great place and deserving of four stars, just not quite five star level. read more

We had reservations and were seated promptly. Reservations are a must at this establishment as it is small and popular. We went on a Wednesday night at 9pm and it was full. Every dish we had was good. My boyfriend especially liked the pork and beans. The fried oysters sliders are a must. They are small, but a regular order comes with four. The hamachi sashimi tostadas were also flavorful. The sea scallops were tender and the portion was just right. This was without a doubt one of the best restaurant experiences I've had. As my partner said, chef's kiss! I had heard about Bliss for years and meant to go during restaurant week. But we just got married so it seemed like a good occasion to splurge on a fancy meal. It was well worth the price. We ordered the chef's tasting menu and wine pairing (so much wine!). The service is outstanding. The tasting menu had several seafood courses, and my partner is not big on seafood. They gladly changed those courses out for something else. My partner also isn't big on red wine, and they happily only paired white wines with their meal. The wait staff was so friendly. And since we told them we had just gotten married, they wrote a nice little "Congratulations!" in chocolate on our desserts. I highly recommend the chef's tasting menu and if you like wine, the pairing is worth it. For the price they gave you an extremely generous amount of wine with each course. If you don't go for the chef's tasting menu, I'm not sure if you can order any of the courses that are on that menu as an entry, but if you can, the tenderloin and the rabbit were incredible. read more

Unbelievably delicious! Everything we ordered was spectacular, especially our entrees (scallops and short ribs). The scallops were some of the best I've ever had and same goes for the short ribs. I'm not a big meat eater but the short ribs tasted so delicious that I will be ordering it next time. If you still have room for dessert, order the butter cake. I have not had a better dessert at any other dining experience and that's saying a lot because I'm a huge (selective) glutton. They also have a good selection of wine which complemented our meal. Bliss is a name that describes this restaurant perfectly. From the contemporary exterior to the cozy rustic interior, this restraint is an experience that anyone passionate about food should not miss. I have the chance to sample some of their food and experience their exceptional service on Oct. 29th. Upon our arrival, everything from seating to the arrival of our server (Ashley) was on point. She suggested that we start with an off-menu item; Red Snapper Crudo with Asian pear and a lime-coconut broth which she dressed with a few dots of chili oil at the table. The presentation of this dish was outstanding, and Ashley's placement of the tiny dots of chili oil was precise and beautiful. The flavors were exciting and unexpected. The next course was divided between George's Bank Sea Scallops; these were perfectly seared sea scallops topped pepper-jack cheddar Anson Mills grits, sautéed spinach, avocado mousse, and a charred jalapeño cilantro beurre blanc and duck foie-gras which consisted of perfectly grilled duck breast, butternut squash, pan-seared foie-gras, strawberry salad, frisee, arugula strawberry sambal, and a blueberry gastrique. The scallops were perfectly seared, and the duck was outstanding. The pairing of the foie-gras with the lighter/brighter flavors of the fresh strawberry and blueberry gastrique was a delight. We finished the meal with a goat cheese cheesecake. The scallops were paired with Trefethen, Chardonnay, Napa, California, 2019, and the duck was paired with Catena, "Vista Flores," Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina 2017. My wife and I travel quite a bit and try to sample some of the finest restaurants wherever we go. Bliss is absolutely at the top of our list when we return to San Antonio. After eating at more than one top choice in San Antonio this past trip, we both agree that Bliss is exciting, exceptional, and delicious. read more

As we arrived, we first noticed the parking lot sign that read, "Remove all valuables". We weren't quite expecting that from a 5 star restaurant. Once we were seated, we began to look at the menu. First impression: Is the menu even in English? Second impression: Is duck and expensive fish all they have to eat? We started off with a cheese and meat board. Which was amazing!!!! We weren't fully committed to eating an entree due to the outrageous prices. Our server convinced us to try the duck. So we went for it..... As the duck arrived it looked very delicious. But you could say that duck is an acquired taste. We couldn't see it fit to pay for a $39 duck that just wasn't good. So the manager took it and removed it from our bill. Came here for my birthday celebration! We got seated in the kitchen, which was an interesting experience. We ordered the charcuterie board 4/5 & the baked oysters 3/5. I originally wanted the east coast oysters but they said they didn't like the batch they received that morning, so I can commend them on their honesty. For my main course I ordered the flounder 3.5/5 Although it was good, I feel like it was overpriced, because the fish didn't have a good texture or juiciness to it. My friends got the scallop! Pretty cool place tucked away in what almost seems like a neighborhood area San Antonio. I definitely go back here again but it would also consider calling ahead or police making a reservation. The restaurant is very chic very stylish and and over all nice place to have a romantic dinner or entertain and impress business guests. They have a really good Prime beef tenderloin steak which is cooked to perfection and really worth every penny. The place has small indoor and outdoor seating. Good for groups of 2-4. Service is excellent! The food is pricey, portions are small - but does not disappoint! And no there were actually plenty of seats inside and it was 100 degrees outside. I was pretty pissed and wondered why I had to sit outside. "Ppl all have reservations for tables inside." The hostess said. "I have a reservation too!" I replied. "Did you ask to sit inside?" She asked again. "No, I didn't b/c I wasn't given options but that doesn't mean you have to sit me outside when the restaurant is half empty and it's 100 degree outside! I'm not gonna pay an expensive meal to sweat my butt off!!!" I replied firmly. After seeing that I'm not someone who can be pushed around, she finally took me inside and let me have a table for two in the air conditioned room. Seriously?! That's how you treat your customers? My waiter was actually nice and efficient which made me feel much better. That and two glasses of moscato! My friend and I ordered from the restaurant week menu. I got the pork belly app, lamb chop entree and chocolate dessert. She got the fried oyster app, sea scallops entree and cheese cake. The food was absolutely phenomenal, not gonna lie! I tried both mine and my friend's. And I still remember every single bite. However, the portion was very very small. We were told that the size would be half for restaurant week menu items. But still! I spent more than $60 and was barely full. My orders were actually bigger than my friend's. I think she really just ate a few bites then the plates were empty. It was more like a tasting than a meal. I'd probably come back again for a regular dinner b/c I was very much in love with the food I had that night. Please be sure to order the Hungarian honey comb- to die for. For dinner we had the scallops and flounder. Both were delicious but the scallops stole the show. Delicate but flavorful! The avocado mousse is something I am still dreaming about. Butter cake and pecan pie for dessert. All plates are generously portioned so there wasn't much room for dessert but a bite of the butter cake was worth feeling overly full for. In addition to the excellent food the service was top notch. My husband and I had an amazing experience at Bliss! Everything about our night here was spectacular. The restaurant is intimate and cozy with a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was amazing! We started with a charcuterie board that was beautifully presented. We loved the options we were able to choose from, from the cheeses to the meats and the accompaniments. For the main course, I ordered the braised beef spare ribs and my husband ordered the Mediterranean Branzino. We both had a "wow" moment on the first bite. I don't feel I'm over exaggerating when I say the food was absolutely spectacular! Our waitress was so friendly and helpful when it came to questions about the menu and drink suggestions to go with our meal. She really made our experience that much better!
