This is the cafe for the Mining Exchange Hotel. We came here for a quick breakfast and the food is great! If you're into specialty lattes but also want actual food this is a great spot. The Mining Exchange hotel has a huge and comfortably decorated lobby. As such, the in-house bar (Golden Hour) and coffee shop (BLK MGK) has built-in seating in an organic fashion that encourages their patronage. You don't have to be staying at the MX to go to BLK MGK -- it's perfectly acceptable to drop in off the street, and the place does have external signage to make that clear. FOOD: We each had a drink and a breakfast nibble. My hot chai was not too sweet and nicely spicy. My wife enjoyed her cold brew drink. The food was also good -- my wife's yogurt parfait was very enjoyable, and my quite large breakfast burrito was surprisingly good. I'm not sure how they manage to make things feel like fresh-made (certainly better than Starbucks zapping something), but they did a fine job at it. SERVICE: The barista was friendly and patient, and found us at the far end of the lobby to serve our food when ready. AMBIANCE: The MX lobby is both huge and stylish and comfortable, and whether your tastes run to bottomless comfy chairs or seats around a table you can find it. All a nice place to eat and drink. Okay on the morning of check out, I decided to browse the pastry case and coffee menu and decided to give it a try before we leave. One of their berry danishes looked so good that I couldn't resist. I got that as well as their s'mores latte. The danish was probably one of the best I've ever had. The jam had whole berries and was a decadent balance of rich and tart with a hint of sweetness. Felt like I was at an authentic french bakery! The s'mores latte wasn't too spectacular and tasted more of just a mocha latte. The espresso was quite smooth so I enjoyed the experience nonetheless. We all loved the coffee area, which is pretty much the hotel lobby for the Mining Exchange. Even when they were busy it didn't feel like a Starbucks lobby. Love love love this place! read more

I love this place! One of my favorite coffee spots in COS. I love hanging out in a place with such a beautiful aesthetic. My favorites would be the pistachio ube latte (iced) and the best sandwich ever...and also the Italian rice pudding. It's served warm (I prefer a cold rice pudding, but it's still enjoyable). The pork belly panini was okay - wouldn't order it again. I've visited on three separate occasions within the past month, and service has been hit or miss. Can't wait to return! We stayed at the Mining Exchange last week and came downstairs for a quick brunch before going on a tour so I ordered the Best Sandwich while my husband got the Breakfast Sandwich. Some coffee and mimosas. And come noon, we sat arguing about whose sandwich was better! Seriously two very different but very delicious sandwiches were had. Husband stands by saying the breakfast sandwich h was the best breakfast sandwich he's ever had. We wish we could have more food sent to Chicago but oh well! Amazing coffee. I didn't realize how crappy my coffee is at home until I had a cappuccino made by black magic coffee. It was so good, that I had to have a second one, which is why I stayed up for most of that night thinking about how delicious my two cappuccinos were that morning. Ha ha But seriously if you're staying at the mining exchange, or are in the neighborhood, I definitely recommend that you pop in and have one of the baristas here pour you a fine cup of Java. So first when you enter it's from the side entrance. There's plenty of signage to direct you to where the magic happens. There menu is fun with lists of add ons or "remedies" to help grant your desires. I ended up trying the banana s'mores latte. Which was delicious. I loved the touch of the brûlée marshmallow and the very present banana flavor. I was hungry as well so I ordered the Pozole Verde. This soup was packed with generous portions of pork and cabbage. I will say I was missing the avocado that was supposed to be included. The cashier was friendly and helped me decide on my choices for the day. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the coffee shop. They had all these different couches and chairs which somehow beautifully still went together. I will be back to try a remedy soon read more

I walked in and was floored. The Mining Exchange did a whole revamp of their space and it's truly astounding. The coffee bar, full menu, design furniture...I can't wait to frequent this spot on a regular basis. Blk Mgk is located in a hotel lobby and it's a beautiful ambiance. It's worth checking out! Friendly staff with a great atmosphere. Perfect environment for reading a book, working, or studying. The menu food offerings are quite substantial. I went three times while on a work trip (I also explored a host of our coffee shops). This one had me coming back for the vibes and the food. I had the avocado toast and the breakfast sandwich as well as the jambon buerre (on different occasions). The breakfast sandwich and the avocado toast are unrivaled and worth a try. I stayed for hours working and sipping on coffee just because the atmosphere is perfectly inviting and pleasant. But boy oh boy the food! I came after seeing an instagram recommendation, doing a little Yelp research of the menu, and decided on a Caprese from the picture. The "Best Sandwich" was delicious. This is their take on a Caprese and is the best I've eaten! If you like Caprese it's a must try! The bread is toasted with a quality olive oil, the mozzarella is fresh and plentiful, the basil potent, and the balsamic was balsamic-ing! It was one of those sandwiches I will not forget. Well done. My only criticism of the place is that their coffee was warm but not hot. Although very delicious, I like a hot cup of coffee. My sandwich was $17 and didn't come with a side of chips or anything. And the sandwich was just okay. It definitely was not worth $17 by itself.
