John came out to sweep our chimney and repaired our fireplace. The previous homeowners had added some janky landscaping bricks in the back of the fireplace and John removed them and added a firewall and painted the inside of the fireplace. I requested a service to clean out a new home I'm about to move into. I reached out to Blodgetts and got in contact with Debbie. She was quick to respond requesting how many vents and what was needed. I responded with what services I needed, vents, chimney, dryer vent. and she provided an estimate for a "Full service" we agreed for $450. On the day of service, Job and his coworker showed up to the house to start the service and looked around the house either me and confirmed they would be doing the "Full Service" job they got from their boss: Debbie. I agreed and they got started to work. There was never anything stated that the price would change, Debbie did not call me to tell me it would go up in price for the service. Once John had completed the service, his helper provided me the invoice and total was $720.00. Looking at that amount, I was very confused why the amount was different and showed them what I was quoted by Debbie. After they read the messages I had with Debbie, they were also confused and agreed " this looks very misleading" . They returned to their van and contacted Debbie to figure out why the amount was $300 MORE than quoted. Debbie called me directly and didn't understand how this was misleading. I let her know I got one price amount from her for $450 for all the vents, dryer vent and chimney. She stated she didn't include dryer vent in the pricing or the chimney cleaning. This confused me more since I specifically gave her the service I needed and asked for a quote to those needs. I do not understand how as a business owner, Debbie could not take accountability for misleading me to believe it was going to be $450 and there was never a higher amount stated even once her guys started service. After going back and forth with Debbie she stated I could just pay what I was quoted and she would "figure out how to pay her guys" as if this was my fault. I let her know I would pay the full service because of how professional John and his helper were and but I will never do business with Blodgetts Cleaning due to their misleading in pricing and professionalism from the business owner Debbie. As far as John and his helper, they were professional and very good at their job. Debbie knew she quoted me $450, She did not think it was necessary to confirm with her customer of the new total before starting the service. I needed a new chimney cap for our home. I requested a quote through Yelp and got a response from three different companies. Blodgett's was one of the companies that responded, but it wasn't my first choice. I called one of the other companies and talked to one of their staff members. He broke down the cost based on the existing flute size, and gave me a quote way higher than what I was expecting to pay. I got discouraged, but decided to try another company. Did pre research and was informed that a brush method would be used to clean my air ducts. Price was right so I scheduled. Tech was nice however ducts were only cleaned at the base (registries) and some of the ducts were cleaned a foot into the air duct only. No brush was used and ducts still filthy. I can't imagine how filthy deep into the air ducts is. One of the registries was not touched and is caked with dirt. They may do a great job chimney cleaning however duct cleaning is not their thing. Use at your own discretion. I sent them a message informing them that one of the ducts was still filthy and they advised they would see what their schedule was like. I recently had a small fire in my dryer. We generally empty the lint tray after each use. A few months ago I cleaned it with my shop vac but the lint underneath had built up. After smelling something burning after using the dryer I called a repair person to check it out. The lint underneath caught fire but luckily and thankfully it smothered out. He said it machine was done and to get the dryer vent cleaned ASAP. So that's why we called Blodgett's. I used the yelp app and got messages from a bunch of places. I liked Bodgett's reviews and got competitive pricing. The service we got was great! He was respectful and explained the process. He explained I was using the wrong type of filter and they gave me a suitable filter. He went above and beyond and even tried to troubleshoot our dryer. (He confirmed it was broken.) He was an all around good guy and highly recommended this company. And if you haven't already, get your dryer vents cleaned! Thankfully, our dryer smothered the fire but scary to think if it didn't.
