I have long, blonde, color-treated hair. I get compliments on it all the time. When I tell people it's colored they can't believe it. When I tell people it uses to be black black they still can't believe it. Then I tell them my colorist took me from out-of-box-black to platinum blonde, within 2 years they double-down on their I can't believe it's. I'm not done. Then I tell them I dyed it black again. I know. Right? So by now, my colorist is properly exasperated with me for destroying his creations. I honestly don't blame him. Really unhappy with my haircut from Charles. I wanted a pretty, conservative, affluent bob cut and got a prison shag. He apparently wasn't wearing his hearing aids and either didn't hear, or didn't care what I wanted. He also dyed my roots black and orange so it would look like I had low class druggy grow out. I asked him to fix it, and he put another coat of black dye on. Like he didn't care at all that I hated the way it looked. I also told him I didn't want my hair rip cut. That didn't stop him from randomly grabbing fist fulls of wet hair and hacking off six inches of once healthy hair. It will probably take at least a year to grow this out. I will also have to pay for color correction at another salon. I hate looking in the mirror. This cut added age and weight to my face. Charles is not a professional. read more

I've been going to see Ron for all my hair troubles for years now. The man has always done a wonderful job, cuts exactly how I ask, is reasonably priced, and not to mention FAST without messing up. I can't imagine going anywhere else now to get my hair done. Especially getting my hair dyed, he's always made sure to show me a color before he puts it in my hair so I know exactly what I want! No complaints here. Ron runs a wonderful salon and establishes a good relationship with his customer always, and is eager to do a good job. My friend lives in the apartment building Blondie is located in, and every time I complained about my hairdresser, she told me to go see Ron (point of order: she DOES have really good hair. REALLY good hair). Today, after a lengthy discussion about how poorly my bangs had been cut, she took me down. Wow. Ron is super nice. 30 years of experience, 20 years with the same also-amazing hair wizard business partner, and probably a whole lifetime of that big, hearty grin set him apart from everyone else. He was very understanding, warm, and professional, and asked before he made any changes to my hair. Also, his mom was there, and she was adorable. And he did my bangs for free, even when I offered to pay or tip him. And he was even really nice about me having bleached my hair myself, which hair stylists are usually jerks about. I was visiting Portland last month, and needed to get my hair trimmed by half inch or so because it had moderately broken ends after having the last haircut about 5 months ago. This was what I exactly requested from Ron, and I added, "I have been growing my hair for long, so please do not cut over half an inch because curly hair is hard to grow." Having said that, I lost more hair, and also ended up having my hair in a horrible style, what he described as "I am just adding layers to your hair; it doesn't affect the length." Because of the weird layers he added, I have to tie my hair all the time since then. My hair was used to be almost waist-length, and now it is on my shoulders, again, because of the bad cutting style-adding layers. After loosing my mind for a while, I talked to another hairdresser, who seemed to be more knowledgable about styling/cutting curly hair, who advised me to avoid layering nut rather looking for "point-cutting" which seems to take longer time and effort. Although he was a nice guy, and kept saying, "We are communicating very well, right?" (a phrase I read at yelp that convinced me to get a haircut from him), I am totally disappointed. I can't style my hair open at all because it looks like a bird's nest now. read more

Love Ron :) he is a great guy and is good at what he does. He's also affordable compared to many places. He's highlighted my hair at least 4x before and I was happy with how it turned out. A couple months ago I had the opportunity to show my paintings in the salon for a month, and this was a very nice experience! The owner, Ron, provides free pizza and beer and pays a live musician (of your or his choice) to perform for a small art show every First Thursday. Cool! I only give four stars because I haven't had my hair styled there yet, and so I can't rate the salon for its hair services! read more

WOW what a great Salon and Owner. This man KNOWS what he is doing. I am SO happy to have found this Salon in a NICE part of town in Portland known as the Pearl District. Just had my hair done with my new favorite hairstylist! I was struggling to find a stylist who I like and who's skilled with doing blonde highlights on naturally blonde hair until I met Ron Kotkins today. He's the best hairdresser I've had since I lived in California. Your first haircut is $10. He's a very talented hair stylist, has been doing hair for over twenty years. He is skilled with cutting/styling all hair types (men and women), I noticed as he was finishing up with a woman right before me who had a completely different hair type than me. If you are in a hurry, he will have you in and out of the salon in no time yet still looking polished. On top of all of that he has a very outgoing and kind demeanor, I had a really interesting conversation with him. read more

Have been getting my color and cut here from the fabulous Ashley for 4 years now. She is fantastic. I always leave with a great color that lasts an incredibly long time without fading and on point grey coverage. Her prices are very reasonable. The salon has a comfortable, Bohemian feel. As an example, an assortment of artwork from featured artists adorns the walls. Every month the place looks different but has the same laid back vibe. I have not gotten my hair done at this salon, and frankly never plan to! The owner Ron came through my work and had the nerve to give me his business card and said he could fix my blonde! What he didn't know is that I am a licensed stylist whom does my own hair and has no problems with it. I felt humiliated. There is nothing wrong with my hair. Love this salon! Donna has been cutting and coloring my hair for years and I don't know what I'd do without her. She is gentle, incredibly skilled, and keeps up to date with new techniques/products, but doesn't promote trendy fads or super-expensive products. She just knows her stuff, and I always feel like she takes the time to make my hair look perfect! I get compliments often from women who spend hundreds for the same thing. read more

Ron is the BEST! Over many years of trying out hairdressers, I found this salon when I first moved to Portland. I will never let anyone but Ron cut/color my hair. My daughter even waits until she visits from out of town to have Ron cut her hair. There is a great vibe in the salon. Ron even hosts "First Thursday" Art Show. Ron has cut and colored my hair for years now, and has always done a great job. He always shows me how much he's going to cut off before actually cutting it, which I appreciate. He is a lot of fun to talk to as well, and his prices are very reasonable. What also impresses me is how many free haircuts he gives to the homeless every month... someone should do a story on him. Ron is the owner of blondies his haircuts are just so precise.... I got my haircut today by Michael, a stylist there. It looks amazing, and I have gotten many compliments so far. I have naturally curly hair, and it is very hard to get the right length. Once the hair is cut and curls, it gets too short. Michael got length perfect, just like I asked. I really had no idea what else I wanted, besides my hair looking cute. He spent the time talking to me and offering actual suggestions. I love the result, this is the best my hair looked in a very long time. I am going back to Michael for color, because I was so impressed. Strongly recommended. read more
