The staff here is made up of old sassy ladies. Not a good place if you're sensitive and uptight. My first time here the waitress asked me why I was just sitting around and that I should get my own coffee. She was joking and these ladies are a blast. The food is great. This place is awesome. Not to get political but the thing that sticks out to me is that people from the right and the left all come here and get along great. It typically has a pretty diverse clientele. This place has a super friendly vibe. At Blondies I find that people are very open to talking to strangers or others at another table. It has a great sense of community. It's a small and cozy diner and it's pretty popular so you might have to wait 10-15 minutes for a table for 2-4 people. Like the signs say on the wall, No whining allowed so shut up and eat it. Blondies is a throw back to the diners I remember as a kid. A friend and I were looking for a breakfast spot in the area and he suggested Blondies said he had been there and it was really good, and he wasn't kidding. I guess it's normally so packed there's a line, but we're seated immediately. It has the Blondie comic theme, and takes back to a time where countertop places like that were everywhere. We sat and were given coffee right away, which by the way was never empty, they must've come to refill it 6 times. The waitress reminded us of Flo from Alice, and that is for sure a compliment. There were at least 10 specials on the wall plus the large menu making it hard to choose, but I tried the Mexican omelette. It was amazing! Ground beef, cheese, peppers, sour cream and salsa. And it was huge! My buddy got the eggs and biscuits and gravy and he seemed unsurprised how good it was. We didn't wait too long, and I love places where you can see them preparing the food. All around I'll be back to blondies. read more

Today I visited Blondie's Diner and it was great, everything was hot and fresh. I had the Denver omelette with hash browns and toast to go. The bread was Texas toast with butter on it already( so yummy). The customer service was so friendly and welcoming. I took a menu Togo because I will be ordering again. The prices are very reasonable I only spent 9.38 and as you can see the serving portions are good. The parking lot was easily accessible. First time I've eaten here with mom. My elderly mom swears she was here "many moons ago" with my aunt who lives in another state. But that would have been 1995 and the staff said that this place has been Blondies for 15 years and it was an Italian restaurant 16 years ago .... Anyway, I never felt like coming here because I thought it was just a little dirty hole in the wall place by looking at its tiny little store front. I was very pleasantly surprised! We were greeted by one of the most friendly, warm, funny, hospitable, welcoming lady I have ever encountered in all my dining experiences. It felt like a small town person embracing the new-comer. The warmth, the personality. Its simply 5 star. Other waitress staff was equally 5 star. The ambiance is of 1960s. There is a diner just like Woolworths from 1960s. There are tables. There are a few booths. There is one restroom for both men and women. One bathroom. It has 1 toilet and sink and a door that locks. It is extremely clean. It is labeled 'men and women'. I love all the memorabilia on the walls. This place is bigger than it looks. It had about 10 places to eat at a legacy "woolworths style" counter. It had an additional 4-5 tables on that side. Then a divider. On the other side of the divider there were at least 8-10 other tables or booths each of which could seat 4. The interior was spotless clean. The menu was very much like what you would find at a Dennys. Chicken tortilla soup delicious, mom thought potato salad and philly cheese steak sandwich were 'ok'. A bit too tough. The potato salad was probably just fine but she is Polish and complained that it did not include egg, and that it was too 'basic', including only a dressing leaving ut a bit dry and not much flavor. My veggie skillet with two eggs was also ok. The food is a "3" for this first visit. My veggie skilit featured overcooked green pepper/onion mixed in with hash brown all a bit too greasy for my taste. It had cheese too. It was good but I've definitely had far better which is why I rate food a "3". The prices are very reasonable and similar to a Dennys. We will definitely be back to this little hidden gem In River Grove. read more

I'm definitely not from around here, but that didn't stop the waitress from giving us a friendly greeting and prompt service. A work friend and I cane here for a leisurely lunch during the week and were pretty satisfied. I was pretty impressed with the Reuben (which comes with soup and fries), with its thick toasted rye bread and tender corned beef. My buddy got the spinach and feta omelet (which comes with hash browns and toast) and had nothing bad to say. With two drinks, the total bill came to about $20 with tip. Went for breakfast this morning and as usual was extremely pleased. This little restaurant is truly a gem. The food is always good and the service is fast and friendly. The menu selections are good, but pay attention to the daily specials on the blackboard as they often have some great deals. The portion sizes are generous and we usually end up bringing some home. When I come here, (almost daily) I think of the theme from "Cheers". There are so many regulars that I know most by name. Stopped in here one Sunday morning last month and this place was popping! We had to wait about 30 mins for a table and we it was totally worth it. We all loved our meals. Really enjoyed this place. We were greeted promptly and you sat where you like. Coffee or your choosing was served with minimal wait time. The decor is definitely from the cartoon character Blondie era and there is some memorabilia on the wall which was pretty cool. The menu is pretty extensive and all item seem tasty. Our waitress was fun and personable. The best part of the experience was that I need to tweak my meal due to some food allergies and she was super good with it and even made so suggestions to add. Great food, Great atmosphere! Just shut up and eat it! Great skirt steak and eggs. My kids also love their Chocolate chip pancakes. There food is freshly made and you can sit at the counter and watch it be cooked right in front of you. Weekly weekend specials are a great way to find something different. This is a little breakfast and brunch diner located in a strip mall with good parking. It reminds me of an Ed Debevic restaurant and probably predates them all. It seems to have more of a Betty Boop theme than Blondy, but similar motif. They have lunch specials and when I went there today, it included sloppy joes, so that's what I ordered. I got onion rings and both were very good and cheap. With coffee I got out at less than $10. I hope to go back next time in the area! read more

This is a "typical" Chicago-ish greasy spoon. But it is, IMHO, one of the best in the area. They were nominated? awarded? best for the omelette. And that is totally accurate.
