Better be a good sandwich. First time in. Tasted the sandwich in the car so I could taste as it was at it's freshest. The bread is a baguette but it's soft and soggyish. No crisp to the bread at all. Taste is okay, but for an $11 sandwich, I want good bread. Finished and, meh. I won't go back. I'll leave this place to people with bland palates and deep pockets. read more

Good, organic food at a reasonable price. My boyfriend and I each had just what we wanted... they have a nice selection of organic meat sandwhiches, wraps and salads...and of course they had vegetarian and vegan options, too. This place is perfect for a quick bite or smoothie if you're the kind of person that can't, or won't, stomache fast-food. The only things I didn't like? My sister lives in the area so she'd been meaning to check it out and I came along for the ride, even though I wasn't very hungry. While service wasn't the best, it definitely wasn't the horror story I've been reading in the other reviews. Maybe it was a good night, or they're finally getting it together, but it wasn't too bad. We waited longer than seemed necessary for our drinks, but the food arrived in a timely manner, so overall, it was a perfectly acceptable experience, service-wise. As for the food, it was good, but not extraordinary. I felt good about the fact that it's all supposed to be local and seasonal, but it didn't blow me away. My chili was good, but I needed to sprinkle some salt on it (which I rarely do--I don't like a lot of salt), and my companions found it necessary to add some salt to their food also. I suppose it might be better than being overly seasoned, but seemed a little odd. The cornbread that came with the chili was a bit dry but it had some interesting herby things happening with it and it tasted good. I was thinking of asking for butter, but opted to just dunk it in my chili instead, which worked out fine. My sis had their Gorgeous Salad and mint lemonade, which had a lot of mint and was unsweetened, making it taste more like an herbal tonic than traditional lemonade--interesting but not really what you'd expect. My sis' bf had the portobello sandwich, the veggie chili, and a green tea chai. He liked the sandwich and chili, but it was the fries that came with the sandwich and the green tea chai that were the standouts. The fries were of the shoestring variety, encrusted with what I thought were panko breadcrumbs, making it extra-crispy and good, and the green tea chai was all thick and foamy and very tasty. So overall, it was a positive experience for us, and we'll probably go back. Hopefully they'll continue to improve their service. read more

Ahhh man. Cute place and the staff is so nice but the dishes are small, super high calorie, expensive and surprisingly bland. The Chicken Tandoori bowl tastes bland even though the quinoa in it tastes like it has a cube of butter in it! How is that possible? The chicken is unseasoned, it's small and it's $14. Other dishes have the same problems. The vegetable curry is just a typical very fatty, Thai-style curry. I was expecting a flavorful curry.... maybe a thick, Japanese curry...... not something that tastes like it was slopped out of a cheap, Thai buffet. I went mid-afternoon on a weekday and there was no wait for a table. We weren't given menus, so I got up and got some myself. The food was pretty good, I think it was better than I expected it to be. They do have some non-vegetarian dishes, but I tried the Tofu Scramble. It was quite delicious, just could have used a little salt or extra pinch of flavor. It felt very healthy. It had been at least 10 years since I had seen him. I had a crush on him since I was 14 and finally snagged him at 17, He's the only 10 I've ever dated. He broke my heart but that was a long time ago. I forgave him at least 10 years ago. Well it was time to finally see each other again. After an awkward moment in Roscoe's he decided he wanted something healthy. So we went down the street to Bloom. We had a nice debate about the cucumber water. I loved it he didn't. He had the turkey burger I had the veggie burger. Both very good. Where I went wrong was the garlic fries. They put fresh chopped garlic on them. Why would anyone not roast it? It's way too harsh fresh. We sat there for about 3 hours and no one asked us to leave. It was the middle of day so there were plenty of seats. I gotta bump up this place to a solid 5. I come here all the time for breakfast and order pizza like there's no tomorrow. Favorite breakfast items: farmer omelet, lemon ricotta pancakes, and the chilaquiles. OK, the chilaquiles aren't authentic but they are very good and though it doesn't sound like a lot of food from the menu description, it's actually quite filing. The pizza, wow! The best ones are the mushroom pizza and the butternut squash. Yum. Even my dad loved the pizza, and he is extremely picky about everything. Oh and did you know you can order a big pizza, not just the personal ones? I had no idea until I called in a to-go order and they asked which size I wanted. That was a pleasant surprise. I almost dare say that the pizza is better as a big pie. It's more like a NY style pizza. Either way, you have to order a pizza, no matter the size, at least once at Bloom. read more

I am grateful that I can literally walk to this place. It is a welcomed place on a street that has been littered with body shops. I can say the food is okay. I have had brunch which is pretty solid. I usually get the sausage, eggs and pancakes which they do fine. Its less greasy than Nick's down the street which can be both good or bad depending on your dietary needs or desires. I also frequently get dinner to go there. The salads are great and are almost every main dish I have had there. And the pizza is delicious though not spectacular. As a burger lover, I never had one there but its on the list. The food can be somewhat pedestrian at times but it does the job. My only complaint is the wait and the service. Sometimes you feel like you are in a vacuum when the wait staff doesn't come around. So its take out mostly for me now. read more

After about 2 years of hesitation - I finally tried Bloom. It was quite good! But I was prepared for what I got... from all the reviews I'd read about the place: the service was slow - but the food was very good. Joan invited me - and gave me a choice of 2 places - so I chose Bloom since it was nearby, and I've always wanted to like it (gotta support local businesses). I ordered the poached eggs served with tomato basil coulis on a slice of toast smeared with goat cheese & a mixed green salad as the side. Joan had the 2x2x2 with a mint lemonade & a chai latte. The food was Very Good (note emphasis) - Nice presentation - Quality ingredients - Excellent flavors - Healthy & light Service however was lacking... Granted there was only one server and one food runner for the whole place - so she was overloaded... not her fault necessarily - but if it's a holiday weekend, the establishment should have had a second server on hand. But still we were left with long periods of neglect - and the requested ketchup was never brought. But why would I give Bloom a 4 star rating and The Little Next Door a 5 star rating for pretty much the same quality & service (or lack thereof)? Probably the ambiance. Bloom is modern and clean and stark... kinda cold and doesn't lead to wanting to linger. So I got what I expected - which didn't lead to any disappointment... good food, slow service. I love the Cucumber water! I love Kent who always helps us in the morning (who has been there forever). I love the fish tacos, the blueberry pancakes, the chicken sausage, the cookies & cream ice cream and the Green Flame smoothie. And their lattes are the best in the city!!! Their coffee has this amazingly delicious chocolatey note to it. Nothing beats it!! There is one very sweet, lovely lady - Neldy - that works there on the takeout side who is the sweetest and goes above and beyond! She's awesome! Another one of our faves!! Also, there is Eric. Oh, Eric. The best waiter in town!!!! Best part - he's not even a waiter yet! He's a server's assistant/ busboy. We end up tipping him, usually more than our server, every time. He checks on us and every other customer (without being overly invasive) and gives a new name to customer service. All L.A. waiters should take note!! Oh--update 1/9/10: Eric is starting to wait tables next week! Bloom is lucky to have him!! Can't wait! So where is our little complaint here? I only wish I could say the takeout/ delivery service was more consistent in customer service. One time I had a girl give me a lecture about how it was time for her to leave work when I was picking up my order. We had ordered 30 minutes prior and nobody said that they were closing. I got there 30 minutes later as directed by the girl herself and they close at 10 (it was 9:20pm when I ordered on the phone). The girl just wanted to leave and I understand that. But, their delivery was open at the time. Then, on another occasion, we ordered a Large pizza and latte from a guy. I was told they were out of pizzas. I told them we would take a Medium. He then informed me that my minimum delivery was lower than the required $20. I informed him that we order a lot and were aware of the minimum but it was not my fault that they were out of the item we asked for. He was condescending and rude and then I was left sitting there wondering if our pizza would arrive without incident. I LOVE Bloom but I really wish the service was more reliable. I really like this place. They have good breakfast dishes with fresh juices and smoothies. It is also a great place to have lunch/ dinner. I really this the staff is amazing and are very accommodating. The food is fresh and tasty. My only issue is that they do not carry mayonnaise. They have different aioli but I am sorry that just is not the same. I don't understand since they make mayo before adding the flavored version. I like Mahon on my burger and with my potatoes. This is one of the main reasons I don't eat here more often. I sure hope it's a change they will make in 2016. read more

Blessed are those who expect nothing for they shall not be disappointed. I expected too much I suppose. This place is geographically desirable so I keep trying. The biggest gripe....the bread they use for sandwiches. It's horrible. Not bad, not mediocre...horrible. Sub par wheat bread for everything. I think this place has potential, they just need to step it up and i hope they do it soon. I'd like to one day experience the baguette they advertise instead of the soggy wheat bread. There was raw chocolate, hemp, goji berries, and it was actually pretty damn good. im not so sure if it was a burst of energy or anything but man I really loved it. Just tried this place for the first time, after my amazing hair dresser recommended it! The staff is as organically friendly as the food is fresh. You feel like a real person having a meal among friends (and I was dining alone). Jazz was playing on the sound system as I watched people walking their dogs, moms walking their babies, people driving by talking to themselves (or their speaker phones) and others grooving out in their cars to the radio on their way home from work, through the huge window of walls. The place is minimalist-ly decorated with photos of real local people and businesses that surround this delicious cafe. Alright-the eats. I am seeing it listed here as a vegan or vegetarian place, and I LOVE my veggie food, but they also have grass fed beef, lamb, and free range chicken! Yes! Perfect for those of you, if you're like me and just watched Food INC.... I had the vegetarian chili with cornbread, and the beet and goat cheese salad. YUM! The chili was incredibly home-made, I even got a bay leaf! Saving the rest for lunch tomorrow. The beet salad was one of the best beet salads I've ever had... and I eat them when I see them on a menu! It came with hazelnuts, fresh orange slices, green beans and a lemon dressing.....heaven.... coming back and bringing the fam! Can be done on the cheap if you only want to eat one thing, but I may even take home a pizza and dessert to go.... Okay I did, took home the lemon tart and the chocolate walnut tart. The lemon was delish, nothing to write home about, but the chocolate.... Oh my god, it was like a ganache with a hint of nut and the perfect crust... melts in your mouth and leaves you strangely satisfied, yet wanting more.... gotta try it! read more

What those people that got shoddy service failed to recognize is that this restaurant is small, SO you will get servers who try their hardest to serve you as quickly as possible with some mishaps. First of all, I love the decor of this restaurant. The pictures don't do it justice as they were all taken during the day. At night, it has a cozy atmosphere with tea candles on each table and low-lighting. The design is modern and colorful. And even though the chairs look like they'd be uncomfortable, they are surprisingly comfortable. I can't say enough about how much I liked the design of this restaurant (it's probably because I eat in nothing but Vegan joints!) I did think they'd have more Vegan options - there were very few, and I hope they'll add more. I had the veggie burger that comes with a side of fries. It's a generous size. My only complaint about the veggie burger is that it crumbled apart and was very difficult to eat. My boyfriend had the turkey sandwich with a side of garlic fries. Beware, if you have a sensitive stomach don't eat garlic! My bf was complaining the rest of the night! Both of our meals were affordable at around $10 a plate. The food came out super fast. The service was excellent! I really appreciated that the waiter was honest with my bf telling him the dish was small when he was about to order ravioli and suggested he pick something more filling. I had never heard of this cafe until last night when a friend recommended meeting there for a chat. After looking at the menu, I was excited that it had vegan/veggie options and free range chicken and grass fed cow options. I had the three grain vegetable burger with living lettuce, tomato and red onion. So good! It wasn't your typical same-old, same-old veggie burger. It was these savory mix of grain that melted in my mouth. It was a tad messy to eat but worth it! Our server was fun and had a great personality. He was attentive but not overbearing, and gave us space to enjoy our meal but provided great service. Def would go again. Two of the three people I went with were regulars. After a long day of helping my brother move, his friends and my family went to eat at Bloom. I ordered a cup of water and Iced tea which to my surprise was actually cucumber water, both were refreshing and delicious. We then started with a community turkey chili which was incredibly tasty. I ordered an organic bleu cheese burger and holy crap was I overwhelmed by the taste. For how inexpensive it was (compared to other organic/vegan places, it was incredible. After three years of eating at Bloom, I must update my review. While the food still ranges from good to awesome, the service on our last visit was enough to make me drop a star. Our waiter had a 'tude and probably said three words to us all evening. I remember their breakfast staff being much more friendly and attentive. They also appear to have removed pizza from their menu (at least during dinner hours) which was a shame. I'm still a big fan of their vegetable curry with brown rice, though. read more

My friend was raving about this place (granted he's easy to please) so I finally came to dinner here with him since he recently moved to this area. Plenty of street parking and its not that busy during the weekday (we went on a Wednesday/Thursday). There are 2 sections but I believe they are connected- the left side is the take out side and the right side is the dine in restaurant- we went into the right side. We got a table near the door- and sadly our table was broken...the top kept spinning around, I was nervous our food was going to fly off..... The menu selection was nice, I immediately gravitated towards the Grilled Salmon on Brown rice- which was delicious. It came out nice and hot, the sauce was delicious and there was plenty of food. I also tried some of my friend's Tandoori Chicken which had more of a mild flavor of Tandoori unlike the traditional version....it was still good. It's overrated to me. I got lunch there yesterday (2nd time trying it) and wasn't pleased. My turkey chili wasn't very hot, and was overpriced at $8.50 (I expected to pay $6.25 when I picked it up, but I had an outdated menu). When i asked for a current take-out menu, I was referred to their website. The garnishing were skimpy (sour cream & onions) and the cornbread was cold and hard. Everytime I'm back in LALALand, this is my first choice for practical lunch meet-ups with old friends-- BYO beer/wine from shop next door, plop on the back patio, and voila! I have no idea why I feel this way. But, Bloom Cafe seemed pricey. Maybe, I associate organic food with high cost, Bev Hills or Weho... This is Wilshire Vista. The place is on Pico. As a resident here, I'm used to my affordable food, and I would expect the same here. Perhaps I was thrown off by the cost of fresh juice - $5. WTF. Ok ok. The salad I ordered was good. And the place is clean. I don't know what it is. I wish there was a bit more "wow" in the food and / or atmosphere. Just give me some niceties to justify the cost. read more

I found their huevos rancheros very tasty, but was a bit disappointed with their caprese omelette (something about the mozerella seemed a bit off.) I think their disposable corn cups are rather silly and counterproductive. I reckon using ordinary reusable glasses is more environmentally friendly than using disposable ones, biodegradable or not. read more

I had mixed experiences at Bloom and really it's too pricey for just okay food and poor service. My husband I discovered this place and ordered for pick up first. We liked the salad and the thin crust pizza. The next time we ordered for delivery, blah. Not so good. Inconsistency is always a bad sign. We might have given up then, but this place is so close and I was desperate for a really good cafe within walking distance. Breakfast there is good, as are some of the smoothies. (However, be sure to skip the "Liquid Lunch"...gag.) On the other hand, a water glass size smoothie for over $5, makes me want to take the longer drive to Robek's for their larger, just as good $4.95 smoothies. Their ice cream is good and a quick in and out through the Take Out door. I'd go back for that. A girlfriend of mine loves their vegan desserts, but since I have no such restrictions, I'll just go to Sprinkles or Crumbs. Now onto the service...I remember specifically 3 servers: 1) a young man, who was very nice, but generally forgot anything we asked for 2) Another nice sort - a 20 something woman...she did not want to allow my girlfriend, me and our two toddlers out into the back patio, feigning that it was closed. I think it just annoyed her to have to go back there. Luckily, our two rambunctious 3 year old boys made it clear that a seat in the cramped dining area inside would be a bad scenario for everyone. She was fairly attentive, but had terrible, terrible body odor. I gathered she was a foreigner, and while I understand differences in cultural norms, the smell when she came around frankly made me wish she was LESS attentive. 3) Another young woman mixed up the tickets (we were in a group) and forgot to charge for some things and did charge other tickets for other people's food/drink. She made NO effort to cover up her dismay that our mom's group chose to meet here. Her frowny attitude was a downer. Thankfully, she was less attentive. The mom's group I belong to tried to schedule a weekly meetup in the back patio and was at first welcome, but I guess the owner felt it was too much to ask to put up with some toddlers in order to make some money, so he told the organizer not to have the group meet there anymore. I am always a little sad passing Bloom. I wish I liked it more. I wish it was better. I wish I had a really good cafe within walking distance. *Sigh* read more

Only complaint is the fresh juices are too expensive, but the food is well priced. Added 8/5/14: I just tried a smoothie that's go called goats greens or something and it was really, REALLY good! Added 6/1/15: sadly I don't eat here anymore... The food is still amazing and I still live the atmosphere, but the service has gone to hell. 4 meals in a row I've gone without drinks, never had condiments arrive, couldn't get anything I needed. I've had two recent meals at Bloom that prompted me to revise what I'd written before. I keep giving Bloom more chances after not-so-good experiences because it's in my 'hood and I want it to improve. Lemon ricotta pancake breakfast a few weeks ago was okay -- not as amazing as I remembered, and definitely on the heavy side. But the handsome server was alert, at least. On the other hand, the salmon bowl I had for dinner tonight was fantastic... and according to the (sub-par) server, the salmon is wild caught. Too bad it took them 15 minutes to greet me on the patio, even after I'd gone in and told them I was sitting outside and hoping for water and menu. The juice they served me was also way too foamy. (When you're paying that much for a fresh juice, it shouldn't be 1/3 foam.) What marks Bloom down -- way down -- is the service, which seems to be lousier in the evenings. The manager knew I was not well served tonight but still, he didn't seem to care. If I'm craving that salmon again, I'll just order it for take out. read more
