Great local cafe with some of the hardest working staff in SoCal. I happened to be nearby and saw something online advertising their Salsa Night event. Apparently, half of LA got the same notice because by the time I arrived, it was PACKED! I grabbed one of the last stools in front of the coffee bar, and was later able to grab a corner table so I could order food. Definitely get here early if you want a table. The live band was fantastic! They played a lot of salsa classics, including some of my favorites. There was lots of dancing in the aisles and singing along. Such a great vibe. I also loved the decor, especially the collage on the main wall: A bright and beautiful homage to the City of Angels. The staff did their absolute best to deliver food and drinks, bus tables, and otherwise navigate the throngs of dancing patrons and I commend them for their agility. Onto the food and drink. There were so many delicious options to choose from and after an impossibly long time deliberating (and dancing), I decided on the salmon caesar salad. Fresh, flavorful and delicious. I enjoyed every bite. The strawberry lemonade was ok. Not worth what I paid for it. I expected something fresher and more flavorful... What I got was bland and watered down. I was planning to order dessert, but that salad was much more filling than I anticipated. Parking around here is kind of tight so plan ahead and consider taking a ride sharing service. I managed to snag one of the last parking spaces in the nearby residential area. Not sure I would have been so lucky if I had arrived a few minutes later. Wow, what a hidden gem Re/creation Cafe is, and I am so glad I found it. Okay, maybe it is not totally hidden, but I definitely haven't read any reviews or heard anyone talking about this place. I usually find coffee house cafe experiences to be pretty inconsistent; either the drinks are average, the food is average, or it is just not a great spot to hang out. But this place impresses me with just about everything. The open cafe space connects directly to a wonderfully decorated backyard with beautiful seating, and it is easily the best setup I have seen in Los Angeles. It is literally a different world once you step inside. Of course, the patio is the perfect spot to bring your dog to enjoy a bit of sun. The waitress suggested I try one of their international lattes, and it did not disappoint, and I am a picky latte drinker. As for the food, the chicken biscuit sandwich in their lunch menu is a must-try. It is a huge portion with detailed plating, and you definitely need to add their sweet potato fries. The breakfast sausage is wonderful as well. You can taste the freshness, and it is cooked to perfection. I would add a bit more salt, but that is just my personal preference. My first visit, and this was so much more than a café--it was an experience. The moment we walked through the doors, I felt an energy of acceptance and genuine appreciation for my presence. I met a girlfriend there to catch up, fully expecting it to be an average café, but instead I found a space that felt safe, warm, welcoming, and deeply intentional. We had the pleasure of connecting with Nick, who shared the story behind the creation and the mission that inspired the café. He was inviting, personable, attentive, kind, engaging... I could keep going. We laughed, he dropped gems of wisdom, and somehow, on my very first visit, it felt like I'd known him for years. If we hadn't been on a time constraint, we easily could have stayed all day because of how comfortable and connected we felt. I live about 35-40 minutes away, and this place is not only worth the drive--I know I'll be back again and again and again. Our tea was incredible, and I'm already looking forward to trying more of the menu. Thank you, Nick, for creating a space that truly embodies community. Stopped by for brunch and overall it's a solid spot, especially for the vibe. The space is spacious and very communal, with both indoor seating and a unique outdoor patio. Didn't realize they also host events and have a small stage for performances, which is a nice touch. You can order at the counter or scan a QR code at the table for mobile ordering. I got the Pickford breakfast Sando, decent size and good overall. I also tried the Shaken Iced Matcha Latte, and as someone who loves matcha, this one wasn't it, tasted more like milk. My friend enjoyed the Cornbread Chicken & Waffles, but her smoothie was just okay, maybe we missed on the drinks. Food is decent, but the ambiance is really what stands out. Service was good. I've lived in this neighborhood for years now but only today took the half mile walk to check out this place for lunch with my dog (que cliche I know). The place is welcoming with a menu for everyone. Doesn't matter if you are coming in for cafe and a snack or a whole meal or a drink. I ordered at the counter but you can also order via QR code right from the tables. I went simple for my first meal here, a grilled cheese with fries and a glass of wine. Sat in the back patio where there were people reading, friends and couples having lunch - really a cute lovely vibe with flowering trees. I visited Re/Creation Cafe for the first time Friday morning around 9:30am, and it was such a great experience. It wasn't busy, and my first impression was that everything was so nice, clean, and cute. The cashier was very friendly and informative, she gave great food suggestions and was especially sweet after I told her it was my first time there. I initially sat inside near the stage area, but after noticing the patio, she encouraged me to check it out. I'm so glad I did because I ended up loving the patio and decided to sit out there. I ordered the Guatemalan dish, and let me just say, that alone made me come back again! Everything was delicious, my chai latte was great, and the service was exceptional. Because of that experience, I convinced my husband, who never likes trying new places, to come back with me this morning. When we walked in, it was a bit busier, which is totally understandable, but we stood there for a minute before being acknowledged. A very nice cashier, I didn't catch her name, she was Asian, took our order. I ordered the same Guatemalan plate for my husband since he loves plantains, along with a regular coffee for him. I got an iced café de olla, a sesame bagel with cream cheese, and a side of plantains. My husband's first impression was that the place looked really nice and welcoming, and he even wanted to check out the patio after we ate. My drink came out first, then our food. My bagel came with butter instead of cream cheese, so I had to get up and ask for it. That's when I first interacted with Edwin. He seemed a bit annoyed but eventually sent it over. Now here's the issue, both my husband and I are familiar with Central American food, and we know how plantains should taste when they're ripe and properly cooked. The plantains we were served today, both his and mine, were extremely hard and tasted bad, completely inedible. This was disappointing, especially because the ones I had on Friday were perfect. When we mentioned this, a younger staff member, not Edwin, came by and asked if we wanted them cooked more, which honestly would not have fixed the issue, so we just asked him to take them. He was very sweet about it, and took them. At that point, we had almost finished our food, and my husband's coffee had not even come out yet. (Regular coffee) Then Edwin came to our table looking visibly annoyed and said, "I was told you returned the plantains. I can replace them, but all of my plantains are like that right now." Mind you, this was with so much attitude and the most annoyed look on his face! That alone was frustrating, especially when we had given him no attitude. We asked if my husband could get an extra egg instead, and he immediately said no, saying it had to match the 5 dollar value of the plantains. Which we were totally ok with! Yet, he walked away, then came back and said he could offer French fries or sweet potato fries. I found this a little frustrating as there were other $5 sides on the menu, yet we were only given the option of fries? By then my husband was already annoyed and just chose regular fries. Edwin did not say anything else, he just walked away. THE FRIES NEVER CAME. At that point, we just finished eating and left. I did not even ask for a refund because honestly, it felt pointless. And it was not even about the refund, it was the attitude and the lack of customer service from Edwin that really ruined the experience. I asked the cashier for his name because the difference in service from Friday to today was honestly disappointing. It really comes down to customer service and delivery. Friday's experience was exceptional. Today's experience made my husband say he will never come back, which is disappointing because I genuinely wanted him to love it like I did. I would suggest not serving plantains if they are not ripe, or at least informing customers ahead of time. Also, customer service matters, attitude and communication make a huge difference. We came here for brunch and left genuinely impressed.The food at Re/creation Cafe is done with care, and you can tell right away. The burger was the highlight for me. The brioche bun was soft and slightly sweet, the patty was thick, juicy, and nicely seasoned, and everything worked together without feeling heavy or overdone. It looked great on the plate and tasted even better. The fries were excellent. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and not greasy at all. They felt fresh and well seasoned, not like an afterthought, which I always appreciate. We also tried a breakfast plate, and it was just as solid. The omelet was fluffy and cooked right, not dry or flat. The potato pancake had a great crunch with a soft center, and the sauces on the side added flavor without overpowering anything. All the seating options to fit your needs; solo dinners to small groups, indoor and outdoor spaces, even stools, chairs, or couches. Came by to meet up with a couple of friends, and overall, the experience was great - up until the flies decided they wanted our food more than we did. First step into Re/Creation Cafe, we were impressed by how wide and spacious the atmosphere was. Very open and inviting. The food didn't disappoint either. The fish tacos (8.5/10) were flaky and flavorful, though a bit messy as the condiments felt more tossed on than placed. The chicken taco (10/10) was my absolute favorite: served in a hard shell with flavors that worked perfectly together. I also snagged a bite of my partner's turkey burger, which was juicy and packed with flavor. Fries were also amazing - it hit that perfect balance of crispy on the outside, soft in the middle. Unfortunately, the major downside was the number of flies. I get that the space is open in the back, but it really impacted the experience. We spent a good chunk of our meal swatting them away. It was hard to fully enjoy my taco with uninvited guests hovering around :( Still, if you can look past the flies, it's a solid spot. Just something to keep in mind if you're planning a visit. Wonderful Cozy Cafe (with a catch if you don't mind it) So I've eaten here about close to 10 times usually on Friday-Sunday. My go to: cornbread waffle with ricotta and fruits, sweet potato fries with sauce, and any of the warm teas, fish tacos. Food consistency: 4/5 - generally the food that comes out and tastes okay like it could be cooked longer. And sometimes it tastes good. (See photos for the changes) Fish taco is a good size for a semi light meal, great for those that are not too hungry. Sweet potatoes fries is baked then fried again- taste delicious, great for by yourself and with the crowd! Personally I highly recommend the sweet potato fries!! Avocado toast was a solid one - it didn't stand out as anything unique. Matte Latte was good to fulfill immediate craving but it wouldn't be my go-to. Specifically since we get the waffle each time without fail we can see how much they range on the fruits.. from maybe 2 strawberries and a few blueberries and one slice of banana to 3x that amount. Sometimes the waffle comes out barely finished cooking and other times just right. See the pictures for the couple times I did take photos. I would say 7/10 times they are good. Ambiance: 10/10 - it can get loud at times. They limit computer use here. Otherwise great place to hang with friends and groups. Family welcome here too. Even seen Church groups here too. Service: 8/10 - sometimes they forget your orders or bring it when it is already cold...or ask what did you get.. and most time they remember you need your order, it really depends on how busy they are. This is such a cute cozy place for brunch ! I love how they have a lounge area and tables outside to dine. Food was great but I would love to come back again to try more of what's on the menu ! This is an order and sit down type of cafe. So make sure you get a menu before placing an order or else you'll be stuck at the register deciding like I did lol. I got a Caesar salad with their espresso no martini coffee. The coffee is 1000/10 ! String just how I like it and a little sweet. It's perfect ! I wanted more after I was done. The salad was great I love the colors on it. I added chicken which came grilled, I would rate it a good 8/10 since it's just a simple Caesar salad. Popped in on Tuesday around 11:15a. I forgot I've had this place bookmarked! I ordered the pickford breakfast sando and an iced matcha with lavender and almond milk. I can't recall having a lavender matcha with such a full lavender flavor in the past...I really enjoyed it. The breakfast sandwich was a savory spark to my late morning! The chicken sausage patty was excellent - fresh, full of flavor and not salty. The greens were a great touch. I also loved how the cheese is fried but not too crunchy. They really thought through this sandwich! The English muffin makes it a little messy to the the touch, but it's worth it. I did feel like it was missing a Jelly or sauce of sorts. They gave me some strawberry jam, but I wonder if a pomegranate pepper jelly or something along those lines would do the trick. I'll definitely return to try more items. Was trying to be semi-healthy otherwise I definitely would have opted for fried chicken instead of fruit and ricotta, but I enjoyed it nonetheless! The waffle was satisfyingly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside with a great cornbread flavor. The sage butter served alongside was the star of the show. Richly flavored with herbal sage, and a slight milky sweetness. It made for a perfect companion to the waffle. The ricotta was a little confusing and underwhelming, as it was not creamy, rather crumbly and slightly sour... this is why I've docked a star. Would not recommend it as a topping. Vietnamese coffee is one of my favorite drinks so I had to try Re/creation's. It was delicious. Not too sweet as Vietnamese coffee often is. Deep caramelly flavor and the perfect punch of caffeine. The door was locked so we were going to go for a walk when the gentleman working the register this morning opened the door for us and let us hang out and look at the menu meanwhile they opened up. I'm honestly confused by this place. They advertise "fresh food" like that's supposed to be a standout... when that should already be the baseline at any restaurant. What really got me was being charged extra for jelly. Their reasoning is that it's "homemade," but let's be real, homemade jelly does not cost enough to justify an upcharge like that. It wasn't bad, just had a slightly off flavor. However, what's more concerning is that the coconut wasn't clearly listed. That's a serious issue, especially for people with allergies. Someone like my foster mom, who is severely allergic to coconut, could have had a dangerous reaction. The space itself is cute. I finally tried this spot after hearing about their biscuit chicken sandwich. Ordered it on Uber Eats, and it came out to $24, which is definitely on the higher end for a chicken sandwich, but I was curious. The biscuits were legit. Flaky, buttery, held everything together without falling apart. The toppings worked well too, the jalapeños gave it a nice kick, and the coleslaw added some crunch and freshness. Flavor wise, it hit most of the right notes. The chicken was undercooked. One bite was fine, then I hit this pink, super chewy part that felt way too raw. Kinda killed the vibe after that. I really wanted to live this place. I had checked it out during Mid-city fest and it was so cute! My partner and I got lunch there yesterday and unfortunately the food was incredibly underwhelming. I got a seasonal iced tea and it was so syrupy sweet that I sent it back to get something unsweetened. I didn't ask but I don't expect to have sweet tea in LA either but the unsweetened black iced tea they had was fine. I got the Caesar salad with salmon - the fish was cooked perfectly and had a nice crispy skin. The rest didn't have much flavor and u realized several of the listed components were not in the salad: Parmesan cheese, garlic croutons and spiced sunflower seeds. I asked the server to bring out the other components and he brought the cheese, croutons and watermelon radish. I asked again for the sunflower seeds. Somehow NONE of these had any flavor? This is one of my favorite places to have work breakfasts and lunches! Now let's get one awkward thing out of the way: yes, they have specific policies on working on your laptop here. During weekends they don't let you at all. During the weekdays you can only work for one hour at a time. Personally, this has never bothered me as I love to go here to eat and talk to someone but just throwing that out there for people who want to come work here. On to the coffee and the food! I've had their lattes and their Vietnamese coffees and everything inbetween. Each one has been rather tasty! As for the food. I'm a sucker for their biscuits. I always get a side of them with whatever meal I'm having. Special shout out to their baked goods too. LOVE their cinnamon roll! I personally love all their breakfast items, particularly their English breakfast. Their fried chicken sandwich is also very tasty. All in all everything is fresh and handmade. Can't really go wrong! The service is always phenomenal, fast and friendly! Everyone enjoys working there - you can tell! There are lots of cozy places to sit inside but also a lovely back patio that provides plenty of places to chill and eat. Also the place is rather multi purpose. I know someone mentioned they do movies in the outdoor area and they do paint n sips with wine sometimes too. But again, I just really like coming here for good food and networking meals. For parking I've never had an issue finding a spot on Hillcrest, the street west of the location. read more

Re/creation Cafe is such a vibe. Cute spot in the West Adams area. Been wanting to try this spot out for some time and so glad we did as they had an #openmic #jam & #livejazz on Wednesday night which was so fun! The food & service was great as well. I stopped in here during one of its first weekends open. It's a wonderful and beautiful space (indoor and patio) for eating and there's also areas for live music and for painting, which I thought was so cool. They were out of a lot of food items when I got there, so I ordered the West Coast crispy chicken tacos, which were pretty good, and I got kombucha to drink. The food was really good, but the vibes were even better. This place has the potential to be a great community space. Excited to come back to try the other food and experience a painting night! read more
