Both burgers were great but the stars of the show were the fries. I'd give the regular a 10/10 and the sweet potato a 1000/10 Artsy vibes, great food, & easy street parking nearby. Can't get better!

My first visit, and this was so much more than a café--it was an experience. The moment we walked through the doors, I felt an energy of acceptance and genuine appreciation for my presence. I met a girlfriend there to catch up, fully expecting it to be an average café, but instead I found a space that felt safe, warm, welcoming, and deeply intentional. We had the pleasure of connecting with Nick, who shared the story behind the creation and the mission that inspired the café. He was inviting, personable, attentive, kind, engaging... I could keep going. We laughed, he dropped gems of wisdom, and somehow, on my very first visit, it felt like I'd known him for years. If we hadn't been on a time constraint, we easily could have stayed all day because of how comfortable and connected we felt. I live about 35-40 minutes away, and this place is not only worth the drive--I know I'll be back again and again and again. Our tea was incredible, and I'm already looking forward to trying more of the menu. Thank you, Nick, for creating a space that truly embodies community. Thank you for encouraging me to "take up space" creatively and playfully. That simple reminder meant more than you know. Cheers to many more visits!

Stopped by for brunch and overall it's a solid spot, especially for the vibe. The space is spacious and very communal, with both indoor seating and a unique outdoor patio. Didn't realize they also host events and have a small stage for performances, which is a nice touch. You can order at the counter or scan a QR code at the table for mobile ordering. I got the Pickford breakfast Sando, decent size and good overall. I also tried the Shaken Iced Matcha Latte, and as someone who loves matcha, this one wasn't it, tasted more like milk. My friend enjoyed the Cornbread Chicken & Waffles, but her smoothie was just okay, maybe we missed on the drinks. Food is decent, but the ambiance is really what stands out. Service was good. Street parking can be a hit or miss, but there are side streets if you can't find something on Washington.

I've lived in this neighborhood for years now but only today took the half mile walk to check out this place for lunch with my dog (que cliche I know). The place is welcoming with a menu for everyone. Doesn't matter if you are coming in for cafe and a snack or a whole meal or a drink. I ordered at the counter but you can also order via QR code right from the tables. I went simple for my first meal here, a grilled cheese with fries and a glass of wine. Sat in the back patio where there were people reading, friends and couples having lunch - really a cute lovely vibe with flowering trees. The food was great and I can't wait to make this part of my regular rotation and also check out some of the events they have.

I came to Recreation Cafe in Mid-City with a group of five and had such a pleasant experience overall. I immediately loved the beautiful, airy ambiance and how bright and welcoming the space felt. I noticed right away how friendly and attentive the staff was, and I really appreciated how quickly they cleaned and set up a table for our group. I liked the easy access to water, which always feels like a thoughtful touch. I ordered the Mediterranean salmon dish and loved how balanced and fresh the flavors were, with a satisfying portion size. I also tried the chicken tenders, which were delicious, along with French fries that were perfectly seasoned and had great texture. Our smoothies were refreshing and tasty. The only small miss for me was the cornbread waffle and chicken, which leaned a bit dry. I appreciated that all our food came out at the same time, ordering was easy with tons of options, and parking wasn't terrible. I would happily return for brunch with friends and explore more of the menu soon.

**GREAT COMMUNAL SPACE, OK FOOD** I've had this café bookmarked for a while and finally made it in. Overall, it lands at about 3.5 stars, rounding up to 4. PARKING Street parking for us. Easy enough on quieter days, but it can get hectic on weekends or during events. AMBIANCE Lofty, open, and airy with a really nice back patio. Easily one of the better-designed communal spaces in Mid-City. Welcoming, lively, and well-suited for hanging out, working, or attending events. FOOD CRENSHAW COWBOY FRIED CHICKEN - $20 Fried chicken with jalapeño honey, garlic aioli, lettuce, and pickled jalapeños on a buttermilk biscuit. The idea is solid, but the execution didn't quite live up to the description. The chicken lacked the heat and distinct buttermilk flavor I was expecting. It's fine, just underwhelming for a $20 plate, especially since fries and other sides are extra. Rating: 3/5 SERVICE We greeted the bartender and staff, but as first-time visitors, we weren't informed that ordering happens at the counter before seating. After sitting for about 15 minutes, we figured it out and went up ourselves. Water is self-serve. Once ordered, the food came out fairly quickly. OVERALL The space is really the highlight here. I might return for drinks, the patio, or future events, but the fried chicken sandwich alone wouldn't bring me back.

Such a cute place - good vibe - staff is super friendly and accommodating. Lots of seating indoors and on the back patio. Cute community restaurant & seems to host a lot of events. I wanted to try everything because the menu looked so scrumptious - from the food to the drinks! I can't eat eggs anymore (BOO), so anything I ordered would have had the egg removed. Ordered the gingerberry rush smoothie and was delish - it has a lot of ginger which I like. I would have ordered the matcha more but I had just finished the matcha I made myself at home. I ordered the breakfast sandwich which was made with these incredible biscuits and I added more chicken sausage (since I didn't have the egg). The sausage is not to be missed! My sister ordered the omelette - the home Made has brows are FIRE! Will def be back when I'm in Los Angeles.

These were the plantains, hard to cut into and very bitter.

I visited Re/Creation Cafe for the first time Friday morning around 9:30am, and it was such a great experience. It wasn't busy, and my first impression was that everything was so nice, clean, and cute. The cashier was very friendly and informative, she gave great food suggestions and was especially sweet after I told her it was my first time there. I initially sat inside near the stage area, but after noticing the patio, she encouraged me to check it out. I'm so glad I did because I ended up loving the patio and decided to sit out there. I ordered the Guatemalan dish, and let me just say, that alone made me come back again! Everything was delicious, my chai latte was great, and the service was exceptional. Because of that experience, I convinced my husband, who never likes trying new places, to come back with me this morning. When we walked in, it was a bit busier, which is totally understandable, but we stood there for a minute before being acknowledged. A very nice cashier, I didn't catch her name, she was Asian, took our order. I ordered the same Guatemalan plate for my husband since he loves plantains, along with a regular coffee for him. I got an iced café de olla, a sesame bagel with cream cheese, and a side of plantains. My husband's first impression was that the place looked really nice and welcoming, and he even wanted to check out the patio after we ate. My drink came out first, then our food. My bagel came with butter instead of cream cheese, so I had to get up and ask for it. That's when I first interacted with Edwin. He seemed a bit annoyed but eventually sent it over. Now here's the issue, both my husband and I are familiar with Central American food, and we know how plantains should taste when they're ripe and properly cooked. The plantains we were served today, both his and mine, were extremely hard and tasted bad, completely inedible. This was disappointing, especially because the ones I had on Friday were perfect. When we mentioned this, a younger staff member, not Edwin, came by and asked if we wanted them cooked more, which honestly would not have fixed the issue, so we just asked him to take them. He was very sweet about it, and took them. At that point, we had almost finished our food, and my husband's coffee had not even come out yet. (Regular coffee) Then Edwin came to our table looking visibly annoyed and said, "I was told you returned the plantains. I can replace them, but all of my plantains are like that right now." Mind you, this was with so much attitude and the most annoyed look on his face! That alone was frustrating, especially when we had given him no attitude. We asked if my husband could get an extra egg instead, and he immediately said no, saying it had to match the 5 dollar value of the plantains. Which we were totally ok with! Yet, he walked away, then came back and said he could offer French fries or sweet potato fries. I found this a little frustrating as there were other $5 sides on the menu, yet we were only given the option of fries? By then my husband was already annoyed and just chose regular fries. Edwin did not say anything else, he just walked away. THE FRIES NEVER CAME. At that point, we just finished eating and left. I did not even ask for a refund because honestly, it felt pointless. And it was not even about the refund, it was the attitude and the lack of customer service from Edwin that really ruined the experience. I asked the cashier for his name because the difference in service from Friday to today was honestly disappointing. It really comes down to customer service and delivery. Friday's experience was exceptional. Today's experience made my husband say he will never come back, which is disappointing because I genuinely wanted him to love it like I did. I would suggest not serving plantains if they are not ripe, or at least informing customers ahead of time. Also, customer service matters, attitude and communication make a huge difference. Message delivery is also a big thing in the customer service world. I really contemplated leaving this review as once again, my experience Friday, was very different.

We came here for brunch and left genuinely impressed. The food at Re/creation Cafe is done with care, and you can tell right away. The burger was the highlight for me. The brioche bun was soft and slightly sweet, the patty was thick, juicy, and nicely seasoned, and everything worked together without feeling heavy or overdone. It looked great on the plate and tasted even better. The fries were excellent. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and not greasy at all. They felt fresh and well seasoned, not like an afterthought, which I always appreciate. We also tried a breakfast plate, and it was just as solid. The omelet was fluffy and cooked right, not dry or flat. The potato pancake had a great crunch with a soft center, and the sauces on the side added flavor without overpowering anything. Presentation was clean and inviting. Portions were filling but reasonable. Nothing felt rushed or sloppy. Overall, Re/creation Cafe feels like a place that cares about what they put out. Good food, well executed, and a relaxed brunch spot I would definitely come back to. Long overdue review.

This place is awesome! Great coffice hours (laptop friendly until 4pm). All the seating options to fit your needs; solo dinners to small groups, indoor and outdoor spaces, even stools, chairs, or couches. There's a basket of blankets to use if you get a little chilly while outside. Great food (like, the entire menu), great service, great espresso. And some fun light cocktails for when it's time to get a little loose. Fun part is all the events and activities they offer. Be sure to sign up for the newsletter. I didn't find the bakery foods good, but hey, something's gotta give. Besides I'm here for all other things! I'm obsessed with Re/creation Cafe.

Returned for another Friday paint night! It was surprisingly not crowded this time vs how busy it was last week. But the vibes are always there. There were plenty of easels available. I tried the chicken tenders and let me tell you they might be the best I've had recently--texture and taste were perfect. Also the fries are downright amazing. And bonus points for the pretty presentation.

The chicken tacos here are absolutely delicious! We really enjoyed our Matcha as well. Service was super friendly and very helpful. Plenty of seating, I love the layout and spaciousness of this café. They have plenty of inside as well as outside seating and metered as well as residential parking all around. Excellent option if you are looking for a delicious bite or a drink while in the area!

This place is unreal! The vibe is so cozy and they are always doing fun things. Best neighborhood hang place. Tonight they had an awesome band and the music was so amazing! The food... I mean there are no words. All I have to say is if you like biscuits... this is the best I have ever had in my life!! Must get the biscuit sandwich! I will be ordering it for thanksgiving! They have so many gluten free and vegan options it's amazing! The pasta was also amazing and a must try. Have to come back to try the rest of the menu. But I feel like I already know I'm going to be obsessed with everything. Best new spot I found!

This was one of the closer coffee spot with good reviews that I found near the kbbq place (Seogwan by Yellow Cow Kbbq) my family and I ate at for lunch. It was about 0.5miles (3 mins drive). The coffee shop is super large, bright, and has nice background music. There are plenty of seats for people to hang out or study. There are also street parking but can be difficult to cross the street due to cars driving by so quickly without a pedestrian crosswalk on one side. I ordered their signature drink which was the orange espresso tonic with one extra shot for my husband, and the double mango matcha for myself. Both of us really enjoyed the drinks, especially the orange espresso tonic. It was refreshing, clean, and easy to drink. Normally, they include double shots of espresso, which may have tasted stronger for me since my husband wanted three shots, and I usually stick with two shots. The double mango matcha uses fresh fruit syrup so the mango flavor was not too strong and my drink was very creamy due to the signature mango cream on top. Usually, I would enjoy a creamy matcha but it made me more thirsty on a hot day. The service took a bit of time since they had to mix my matcha the legit way with the bamboo whisk. The matcha tasted like premium, ceremonial matcha since it was stronger and authentic in taste. Overall, both drinks were enjoyable but if I had to choose one, I would go with the orange espresso tonic even though I love mango matcha!

For my wife, I got the Coconut Matcha Latte ($6.95), as suggested by the staff. I love how they layer the matcha and coconut, but be sure to take a picture quickly, as it mixes easily. If you like taking pictures of your drinks, I recommend having a friend or partner grab a table beforehand, as there aren't many good spots for photos. Rok is definitely a place I'll return to explore more of their menu. I'd like to try going there earlier in the morning to beat the lines or order ahead.

I always get a cold brew (solid ) and I usually get a ham and cheese croissant warmed up. I should probably try something new, but I'm a creature of habit and it's a damn good croissant. There's parking and plenty of space to do work or chill!

Travis was so accommodating, even though at some point we had taken over several tables (in our defense it was not particularly busy). Now, I come here sometimes when I'm not running late to work/have some extra time to spare in the morning. The space is set up great for catching up with friends (like we did) or getting some work done (I always see at least one person on a laptop when I drop by). There's a little parking lot right in front, and I've been able to park there easily each visit. I normally order some sort of cold coffee. On my most recent visit I got a blue mint latte, which was both aesthetically pleasing and delicious. I'm also a fan of the pastries. I've had some sort of tomato pastry and a jalapeño cheese croissant, both of which satisfied whatever savory craving I was having. I appreciate the resources posted, the signage that's up, and the community events that happen here. The energy and intention behind this space are wonderful.

I left a 5-star review about 8 months ago, and after coming back consistently ever since, I can confidently say they have never missed. I've worked my way through so many different items on the menu, and every single meal has been fresh, flavorful, and worth coming back for. It's honestly my favorite sit down spot to eat at because the quality is so consistent What really made today's visit special, though, was the service. Today was my mom's birthday, so I brought my family here for brunch, and Amanda took such great care of us. It was my mom's first time visiting, so she had what felt like a hundred questions about the menu, and Amanda answered every one with so much patience, kindness, and genuine enthusiasm. My brother is autistic, and she was just as patient and accommodating while he took his time ordering. She never made us feel rushed and made sure everyone felt comfortable throughout the entire experience. She also brought out a slice of cake with a candle to sing happy birthday to my mom. You don't get this kind of service anywhere. Also Kayla was so great too!!! Great food will always bring me back, but service like Amanda's is what turns a restaurant into a place you recommend to everyone. Thank you for making my mom's birthday brunch such a wonderful experience. We'll definitely be back (again)!
