This location hasn't fixed their customer service issues yet... it seems like this has been going on for years. There are odd associates who are extremely helpful and attentive (the Chanel ladies are a delight), but whole sections of the store are seemingly void of any associates who aren't even tremendously helpful when they can be flagged down. I would recommend heading down to the Tyson's location even though traffic is a nightmare. read more

There's this bald head slim African guy late 30s or early/mids 40s who staffs in the Hugo Boss men's section on the second floor, caught him calling a consumer a "idiot" as he was speaking to another sales associate right after the customer leaves. All it takes is one bad apple to ruin what is usually a wonderful experience. I have purchased from bloomingdales for years. Some are better than others. Usually the folks I've dealt with at this store have been exceptional. For example, when I shop at the ladies department, especially at the Ted Baker section, the salesperson is always wonderful. When I shop for glasses, the salesperson is also amazing and helpful. But then I met the "Executive Sales Manager" when I was returning a purse that was purchased as a gift (it did not suit my taste at all). This man was one of those people who is very good at being rude with a smile. Pretty passive aggressive. Not only was he dismissive and accusatory, but after driving 1 1/2 hrs to make a return (I had other things to do in the area too), he refused to give me a return bc he found a tiny speck on the purse and claimed it as used! After I left, I took a napkin and wiped the speck right off! It was lip balm! I seemed to have touched the purse with lip balm still on my finger. To add to his reasons for not allowing the return he claims that it was supposed to come with a dust bag, which I never received. And to prove his point that all the purses from the same brand come with a dust bag inside, he had to go through 5 purses to find one that did indeed have one inside. The other 4 did not. But of course he didn't believe me when I said I never received one. What? A honest customer? No such thing. After working at retail for God knows how long, I'm sure he's jaded and doesn't believe what most customers say. I get it. I worked in retail when I was young and dealt with jaded people like that. And when I had to drive to another bloomingdales, which was very far, they returned my purse with no problem. But did he really have to put me through such an embarrassing experience? No. Couldn't he have tried to help me? No, he had other customers who looked promising and affluent. Couldn't he used his thumb to wipe a tiny dot that was on the purse, which came right off? No, he could easily avoid a return if he did nothing. Clearly all he cared about was not making that return. And this is sadly after I purchased hundreds of dollars worth of clothing from there. I was so upset and hurt that I just had to return the clothing right after bc I just couldn't believe how I was treated. It bothers me to this day! Maybe I'm sensitive, I don't know. Maybe I shouldn't have felt so hurt, but I couldn't help but feel offended and distraught. I'm not sure if I can ever do business again with Bloomingdales. At least maybe not the one in Chevy Chase. It's funny bc I went to the Saks store right before coming here and their customer service was SOO different. They promptly greeted you with open arms and smiles, their kindness was genuine, and their salespeople were incredibly delightful. It was such an extraordinary experience. They didn't make you feel like you were an insignificant nobody. Bloomingdales, be more sensitive to your customers. Don't treat them like they're all trying to get one by you. read more

I've lived down the street from this particular bloomingdales for nearly three years and it has been one of my top places to shop, until recently that is. In the past few months or so I have had numerous bad customer service encounters. Everything ranging from waiting at the register for prolonged periods of time due to the employees pausing in the middle of the transaction to have a brief conversation with another employee to having an employee named Tracy L. take her sweet time scanning the item and going through the transaction as slowly as humanly possible and even look me up and down, judgingly - never have i felt so awkward and uncomfortable. read more

Worst customer service EVER! I purchased a pair of David Yurman earrings from the White Flint location in 2008. On one of the earrings, the back became loose and I was no longer able to wear it. On April 19 2014, I went to the David Yurman counter at Bloomingdale's to get a new back. The woman behind the counter didn't have a clue. She didn't even know the earrings were by David Yurman. She asked her manager several times what to do and after presenting two backs that were too small she suggested I keep calling the store to see if any new ones come in. Seriously, you couldn't look somewhere else in the entire jewelry department at Bloomingdale's to fix a pair of earrings purchased at your store???? Never again... read more

The store has gone downhill so fast. Went Christmas shopping there today, a weekday mid morning. There was barely any shoppers there. Seem to be plenty of salespeople. Yet, nobody ever said hello to me or offered to help. Had to dive through piles of clothes to find a size. Browsed them through three departments looking for gifts. Again no help offered. Finally found a couple items and walked over to gift wrap where I found three idle employees who barely noticed I was standing there. And then, they tell me there's no gift wrapping available unless you're willing to wait (over two days) until 4pm on Christmas Eve. TOTAL FAIL. Avoid this store and let it die along with the rest of the Federated (Macy's) retail disaster. read more

I had a terrible experience with the Wedding Registry at Bloomingdale's. I got married in October and I'm still waiting for them to deliver some of the gifts that were purchased for us 6 months ago. No one in Customer Service has been able to answer the most basic tracking and delivery questions. Also, a lot of their gifts are actually shipped from the maker directly, so if there's something on back order from the maker they never tell you and Bloomingdale's has no way to guarantee it'll be shipped in a timely manner. The whole process is dysfunctional. Also, half the items I chose in-store for my registry were unavailable for purchase online, which defeats the whole purpose of having a registry that's easy for people to use online! read more

I called the jo Malone counter to learn more about their new scent and someone by the name Hannah answered the phone and placed me on hold for a long time. I asked her if they had any samples to try before I purchased. she was very rude said that they never get any samples and hang up the phone. Instead I placed my Order with Nordstrom and I will never shop at that Bloomingdales Chevy chase ever again. Advice to the management team get rid off all your rude employees because you will never achieve your sales goals. read more

I've been meaning to write this review for a while, always hoping I can up the stars, but this Bloomingdale's never convinces me otherwise. This is a smaller-scale store, but it has a pretty good selection all around. The shoe salesmen/woman are super nice, always helpful and attentive. Luckily I've reduced my training so I can actually wear real shoes again. Handbag girls are nice, too, but can sometimes be a little dismissive. The perfume/cosmetics folks are great. Never too pushy, although I will say the Laura Mercier lady needs to tone down the make-up just a bit....kind of scary (I'm so mean!!!). My three-star rating centers mostly around the fact that I just wish the chicks on the second floor would, oh, I don't know, MEMORIZE what they have in stock. Every time I go into the Contemporary section and ask a question, they NEVER know their merchandise. I'm kind of a nutcase, so I know when I start muttering "Does ANYONE even KNOW what's on the FLOOR?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!" they can probably hear me. Well girls, if you CAN'T hear me, then I hope you are at least reading this. I'm the one who always comes in in my dirty gym clothes running around like a lunatic to grab something for the weekend about 30 minutes before you close, and I ask you to point me in the right direction since I have no time to browse and you NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE. But the thing is, you SHOULD KNOW you have (for example: black tight bermudas or capris). I asked and they all looked around dumbfounded....then I walked (actually ran like lunatic) to BCBG section and sure enough, they were there. I don't get it, it's not that hard!!! If you like fashion enough to work in friggin' Bloomingdale's, then you should know what you have in your department. Wait I'm not being fair...There IS one girl who knows her stuff and she's over around the Tory Burch stuff. I usually go up to her for help if she's working. Alright I'll say it...the catalyst for this review was catching two salesgirls talking $hit about me while I waited at the register b/c I didn't feel like wasting time hearing their names b/c they are no help anyway! read more

I love the selection at this location - it is where I buy most of my clothes. They have really good sales, too. The service here is inconsistent, though. Sometimes I'm blown away and sometimes I'm utterly disappointed. They could improve upon management to fix this issue. read more

This Bloomingdales is my favorite store. Hands down. The staff here are so friendly. See Ira in women's shoes, he really knows the inventory and has consistently great recommendations for both me and my mom. Unfortunately, Bloomies has a general reputation for being stuffy; I've never had that experience here and have bought everything from on-sale pillow cases to diamond earrings (major gift!), tights, slipped and suit pants. My mother finds fantastic sales here too. read more

I've had terrible luck with the cosmetics counter service at this Bloomingdale's. I use Estee Lauder foundation and dread going to this counter for a refill because there is never anyone there. I usually have to stand around for about 5 minutes before someone from a different counter comes over to help. The next 15 minutes always consist of the salesperson rummaging through all of the drawers to look for the product while explaining to me that they don't know where anything is because this isn't their usual counter. I thought maybe this was a problem with Estee Lauder until I went to the Shiseido counter yesterday. The exact same stream of events happened. The salesperson (from the Clarins counter) who tried to help me was very nice, but she couldn't find most of the items I was there to purchase. She told me she could continue to look but had to first run back to the Clarins counter to help another customer. I stood there while she helped the other customer for about 10 minutes, and I finally decided it wasn't worth it to continue to wait. There were other sales people at other counters around us who saw the whole thing, but no one ever bothered to step in and help. It seems strange to me to have completely unstaffed counters with no one from those respective companies who know their own products. Why have a counter if no one can service it? It's deceiving and a waste of time for the customers. read more

This store is pristine but they have cut out a lot of the brands they carried here when they first opened...perhaps it is a function of the sour economy and the highly competetive Chevy Chase market (Neimans and Saks have great mens depts.) Bloomies is tricky because some, like this location easily rival, say Saks, but I think many shoppers (esp male) may still consider Bloomies their mothers store so they end up not coming in here...its still an impressive Bloomies location (and super clean/organized/well laid out unlike some Bloomies) but they don't carry the same mens collection they did when they first opened. They are a worthy competitor but they need to be more consistent in both service and brands offered if they are going to make headway into the creme de la creme of the Chevy Chase market. read more

Great store! Have always had great service. Especially with lady named Lucy at Yves St Laurent. Color was not there so she actually located somewhere else called back twice. Bobby brown associate was great. Only person seemed a bit snobbish was a lady that worked at a line next to the elevator. Felt like second class by her. We registered at Bloomingdale's for our wedding because, after much searching at many department stores, I finally found table settings there that I fell in love with. The customer service at Bloomingdale's was great, and I was really happy with the quality of the dishes, glassware, flatware, etc. The main reason I'm giving four stars rather than five is that they messed up a lot of our orders. The six mugs that we registered for arrived in a small box with just a bit of flimsy cardboard barely protecting them, and five of the six were broken upon arrival. I e-mailed my contact at Bloomingdale's registry, Courtney, and she was very responsive and ordered a new set of mugs for me (which the people at the warehouse unfortunately still didn't pack well, and two of those mugs arrived broken and two others had cracks in them). So Courtney arranged for yet another new set of mugs for me, and I came in person to pick them up. Two other times, the warehouse sent us three glasses when our wedding guests had ordered six (three sets of two). Each time, I wrote to Courtney, and she responded quickly and put in a new order for us. So, the people who are wrapping and sending out the orders definitely need to make some improvements (but that's not an issue specific to the Friendship Heights store). But Courtney was extremely professional and handled each issue promptly. read more

I frequently go to this store for lingerie as they have a fairly good selection of the brands I wear. Unfortunately, the customer service is extremely poor. Each time I find two sales people talking to each other at one end of the department. If they make any effort to help me it's only after a rather long period of time. Yesterday, as I was leaving one of them wandered over and asked if I had found everything I needed. No, I didn't. Only then did she offer to help. The time before I visited needing help for a fit. I eventually gave up and went to Lord & Taylor. I believe two people at that time were helping the same shopper. At any rate, no one offered to help me. No wonder brick and mortar stores are going out of business. It's a shame because the location of the store is excellent for me. Other departments are fine in terms of customer service although I find that there are less sales persons around in general. Sometimes you have to search them out. read more

Are there two Bloomingdale's in Chevy Chase???? Based on these reviews, I am thinking there must be because the one that I went into stinks. The only reason I went into the store was to purchase a gift for a wedding. Once I found someone that could help me, she was preoccupied about meeting a co-worker to go out to lunch. Customer service which is really only gift wrap, they can't wrap! The person that wrapped a wedding gift obviously doesn't know how to wrap properly. What a waste of money. I did it myself. I stopped on the lower floor to check out the collections and there was very little and very picked over. I stopped in handbags and what a joke. Other than some ugly Ferragamo and Marc Jacobs bags there was nothing. Lots of Coach but yuk!!! Ladies shoes is really bad, unless you love Tory Burch! Cosmetics was like Macy's...except for Jo Malone. Neiman Marcus and Saks have so much more to choose from and much better labels. Even what little designer merchandise they had was poor. The sales people seem very young and inexperienced. I will stick to Neiman's and Saks or go to Nordstrom at Montgomery Mall. They have much more experienced and professional help. Just the way that the women in customer service spoke was what I would expect in a fast food joint. Not a classy establishment! read more

I would like to start this review by stating the fact that I entered this store for absolutely no reason at all. I'd just left from attaining some small finds at Tiffany's for my sister's birthday and wanted to kill some time until my Personal Training session. I entered the men's shoe dept and was warmly welcomed by two International ladies with beautiful accents. I was assisted promptly and with smiles and small chit chat. I will definitely be going back to these ladies for their service alone. This review would have 5 stars, UNTIL you count the other departments' service. The looks, the side conversations and etc that the staff appear to have towards their customers that do not appear to be middle aged white women are absolutely appalling. I am pretty sure most of the staff are not being remunerated the same pay that I get at my job even with their daily commission, so the looks are neither welcomed nor warranted. If looks could kill, I'm pretty sure this Bloomingdale's in particular, would no longer have clients. FIX THAT ASAPtually! One should never judge a book by it's' cover, especially when my pages contain beauty, depth and knowledge. That is all... read more

Since the Store Manager came over from the White Flint store, I have seen significant changes to this store, all for the positive. The previous two store managers were a disaster, but Susan has done a terrific job upgrading the staff, working with the service levels, and just a general better appearance as a whole. I had my doubts about this store the first two years, but the change has been remarkable. Not five star yet, but will get there. Some points to note: the cosmetics department is still a disaster, but so is SFA and NM in that respect. I prefer L&T when it comes to that area. The sales help are "softer." Mens has a great selection, especially if you are 6'4" tall, have a 28" waist and 54" chest. Still, the selection is magnificent. Home store, while limited, has all the higher end goods, and that is all I care about. So overall, a great, great improvement since Susan, the new General Manager has taken over. read more

Worst Bloomingdales experience ever. I went in to buy luggage and had the hardest time finding an associate to help me. I finally found someone and she told me I should come back when the person who works in luggage is at work. Excuse me!? So I just researched some luggage on my phone and picked out what I wanted. I headed upstairs to check out the clothing and I was bombarded by associates who than started to argue over who would help me. I felt extremely uncomfortable so I asked to speak with a manager. They told me there was no manager, which was no surprise, so I waited 20 minutes for the mens manager to come down to help. Unfortunately he was just as incompetent as the young sales associates. Every time I shop here there is an issue. Obviously the staff has changed within the last year or so and maybe they forgot to train the people who are there now. Ever since the new store manager has been there I have seen a deep decline in the service and I think I will just take the hike out to Tyson's Corner or just stop shopping at Bloomingdales all together. read more

The customer service in this store has gone from mediocre to worse! I bought a designer watch for the boys in my family and we needed to find out if they could replace a leather strap that disintegrated in just a year on one of the watches. When I brought the watch back with the receipt, I was taunted by the saleswoman at the watch counter who said "what do you expect? You bought one of the cheaper watches!" This is ridiculous since all of their watches are overpriced. We bought from Bloomingdales because we expect the customer service to be better but boy were we wrong. I called the customer service office and was told that I would get a call from the store manager who has never called back to find out about my experience. It's not surprising that the sales people are not accountable when their store manager cannot be bothered to address customer concerns! It's no wonder that people prefer to shop online and ditch these stores with a huge, unresponsive staff. In all fairness though, there was a really nice guy in menswear who went above and beyond to sell his merchandise but the people in charge of watches are sub par and the management does not care! read more
