Horrible customer service. I left with an extremely bad taste in my mouth, and I am throughly appalled. I don't know where to start whether it's the fact that we were locked inside and no one offered to help. Or the fact that they turned the lights off at 8:05 how rude! I understand you are ready to go home but as a luxury retailer you don't have to be so obvious or blatant with your disdain for customers shopping at 8:05 since they close at 8:00. Several people were locked inside the store and had to walk around in the rain! Not only were we locked inside but the sales lady was too busy counting the register to even answer our questions regarding how to exit. I had to ask her several times to get a response. Sweeeet! Anyways save your money visit Saks or Neimans, or just come earlier if you want good customer service because apparently their customer service skills turn off at 7:40...right before they turn off the lights! The only reason I gave them two stars is because they carry DL1961 denim and that's super hard to find. read more

I knew I could count on Bloomingdale's to give me a big, big hug after the GMAT Saturday. Life sucked clear out of me after the test, I managed to make my way to the red line to chill my beans in a retail therapy setting. Bloomie's is one of my favorite stores in the world, I think. The selection at this store may not be all that grand, but it's just so big and airy, it makes me smile. And I've found many of the sales associates to be quite nice, too, especially the lovely Naomi Campbell lookalike who works near the denim. I can't tell if her accent is real or not, but she's terrific. I must say I'm disappointed with the china sets, though. A little too much variety of styles, none of them minimalist like I like. But the bedding selection is wonderful! And I've got my eye on this espresso machine. Basically, Bloomie's has lots of wonderful stuff that I want but can't afford yet, so there's always a big dash of encouragement in there with the style lessons. read more

This used to be my go-to department store for cute shoes, accessories, and dresses but I'd stopped going after a few poor customer service experiences. Fast forward a few years and I decided to give them a few more chances and I really shouldn't have bothered. The associates are as rude and dismissive as ever. I did have a great experience with Carol in Men's fragrances, she was really patient and attentive as I rushed to find some cologne as a quickie surprise gift for my husband. Unfortunately, the buck stopped there so i can only give two stars because on numerous other occasions within the past few weeks, I've been pointedly ignored or given a really snooty attitude. The shoe department has gone to the dogs and the store's design is aging poorly despite the mini face lifts. I just called to have some sunglasses put aside for me to purchase and pick up this evening and the accessories associate on the phone couldn't have wanted to help me less. She hung up on me once, couldn't answer any of my questions, and was just generally disinterested. I guess they don't work on commission anywhere #mustbenice. Save the annoyance of having to beg for or put up with half ass assistance and spend your money elsewhere. read more

Bloomingdale's is the Ted Kennedy of luxury shopping. Still rich but not nearly as attractive as the other family members (Saks and Neimans would be Jack and Bobby). The White Flint store had terrible customer service and selection, and so does this location. Most recently, I was here on a Saturday night. There were no salespeople to be found in the fragrance department. Fine, I picked out what I wanted myself and went to the nearest register. Finally, a woman walked by and asked if I needed help. When I said I just needed to pay instead of ringing me up herself, she yelled across the store at some other woman to come over. At that point, I just turned around and left. It's my own fault for going to Bloomingdale's anyway. Ugh. read more

Needs major improvement. Customer service is lacking -- to the point of it not even being listed in the store directory! I only know this because I had register a complaint about a sales woman, and had to do major investigative work just to find the supposed customer service desk (aka GIFT WRAPPING). Men's selection is limited. High end brands (or at least priced as such), and very little variety. Mostly stodgy styles. Go to Barney's Coop for current stuff. I hate to say it (because I don't like giving VA any tax revenue), but the Tyson's store is 100 times better than this one. My grandmother was an avid bloomie's shopper and I am happy to carry-on the tradition. Yes, its on the pricey side, but they have some fabulous designers and both the service & the store itself are fantastic. Tip for bargain savvy shoppers: Go Monday-Thursday for the best deals. Gorgeous store. Easy parking and easy no hassle validation. Wish I could afford more here but their cosmetics are the same price as everywhere else. Love the Nespresso boutique. You can try any flavor of coffee you want for free! Weirdly they don't actually sell the Nespresso machines on the same floor as the boutique. It's just to sample, and maybe to order the coffees. I might buy my Nespresso coffees from them, but I got my machine at Bed Bath and Beyond. It was over $100 cheaper there for the same model. Only fault with this place is that my wallet can't afford it. My wallet is in the 2.5 star range. But my taste, and Boomingdales, are 5 star! P.S. i love how bright the store is. The shoe I wanted wasn't available at my local store and I was prompted to call this store. Talk about a new level of incompetence. First and foremost, customers should never be prompted to do this. If Nordstrom can figure it out, why can't bloomingdales?? Ian at the Palo Alto store told me he could place the order but couldn't guarantee it would go through, so it would be best for me to call myself. Huh? First time I asked to be transferred to shoe dept the person at shoes hung up without even answering. Second time I asked to be transferred to shoe dept a man picked up and said he was very busy. He asked about the shoe then put me on hold for 12 minutes. Third time I called and asked to speak to the manger: Hold for 10 minutes. Fourth time I spoke to Tamara in customer service who was actually willing to take the SKU number. She actually was able to find the shoe! We placed an order,fingers crossed. She was the only person at the store that was helpful. It should never take a customer 4 calls. If I weren't such a shoe addict, I wouldn't have called back after the first time. Sigh... read more

I must agree with the other reviewers. This Bloomingdales has a great selection and great stuff on the sale rack. I'm not a shopper by any means, but I found a bunch of dress shirts in my price range and when they rung me up, I received an extra 30% off (I guess I didn't see those particular sale signs). Another thing, the store was completely empty midday on a Saturday, I think due to the major downturn in the economy. I'd never seen a department store this empty before, it was mildly creepy. If you are going to the Men's department, ask for Glen. He was incredibly nice, helpful but not pushy, and has a good eye for matching ties with shirts. read more

Yes, everything here is expensive. Well.. you don't have to buy every time you go shopping. It's called 'window shopping'. Most staff here are friendly and attentive. I think it's good to see all different items so you know how things are different in quality and design. I found this Bloomingdale one of the most relaxing places to shop (or window shop). I don't always shop in stores (online shopping is just so easy!), but when I do, it's always a pleasant experience (2nd and 3rd floor, women's and men's and home department) My most recent experience was around January/February. My mom had been trying to get me to buy a canada goose parka. i could not decide what i like and want after years and years of trying them and deciding between styles and colors. One time, I even made a purchase only to find out it really wasn't for me. Long story short, my mom finally took me to here when she was in town to make sure I had a "serious" fit session of the coats. Federica G helped us, and she was so friendly but not pushy (crucial!!). I loved it when she said "I always give honest opinion." I was still skeptical because all sales associates say that. Turn out she really gave her honest opinions on what worked and what didn't. That made the shopping process so easy! In addition to a few styles I had in mind, she also brought out a couple other styles I never thought about trying. We finally set on Kensington, but they ran out of the color/size combo I wanted at the Chevy Chase location. Federica did her magic and found one from 59th Street. I think it might be the last one in the company. As for online shopping, the customer service is outstanding as well. I just spoke with Lashanda earlier today about a purchase that seems to be lost. It was a somewhat complicated situation involving two shipping carriers and no one wanted to take responsibilities. Lashanda patiently listened to my situation, taking time to try to find out what was happening on her end, and gave me some advice and told me to call back if there's any changes of the situation. This is all pretty standard. HOWEVER, 5 minutes later, I got a call with an Arizona number, and turned out it was Lashanda calling back and providing additional options and help. I have never had a customer service rep from any retail company calling me for any sort of follow-up after hanging up the phone. Usually, you get helped by different people over the phone if it's a problem that you have to communicate for several times. It was a very nice surprise and I do appreciate her taking the time to do that for me. With so many retail companies and shopping websites out there, those little things are what make a company stand out, which are also the reasons why new customers come in and old customers stay loyal. read more

I am still in love with a Bloomie's sale. I can never deny it when I get the little postcard in the mail, informing me of the ridiculous discounts awaiting me on the shoe rack. This time around I got a pair of Cole Haan/Nike shoes for over $200 off the original price, in addition to a couple of other I-really-don't-need-these-but-they're-on-SALE winners. I ran in to yet another problem outside the shoe department. I found a to die for eyeshadow quad at the Chanel counter. There was no one around, but eventually a makeup artist came up and asked me what I needed. I asked her about the eyeshadow and she made me sit down so she could apply it. I wasn't really looking to get my makeup done, just wanted to buy the shadow. This launched a 45-minute (no joke!) makeup application session. Sure, the makeup looked good, but I was kind of in a hurry to get home. The saleslady was pretty pushy and applied a hell of a lot of eyeliner. So I FINALLY get done with her, am ready to buy the eyeshadow, and oh, they're out of it. Well, actually, I don't really know if they were out of it. See, the Chanel salesperson had left for the day so this woman was just kind of filling in and didn't know where anything was stored. They were also "out of" the lipcolors I wanted. The saleswoman brought me over to the Estee Lauder counter to find a complimentary lipcolor, which totally wasn't what I was interested in! She was very pushy and I ended up buying it just to get her to leave me alone. I'll definitely be returning it. I felt like none of the women really knew what they were doing and shouldn't be expected to cover other brand counters. Also, it did appear that the Chanel counter was grossly understocked, with only one shade of nail polish in stock and none of the new colors. Next time I hit up Bloomie's, I'm going to stick to the shoe department. read more

First, Customer service is really poor at this location. Bloomingdales in Tyson's corner and this one is day and night! I came to return shoes I ordered and was yelled by a lady at purses department that "shoes go to shoe department." Then they could not process refund to my CC because I used combination of gift cards and CC for my purchases and had to give me a gift card for entire amount. Really annoying Why would I return to Bloomingdales, when other stores, like Nordstrom, make it SO much easier, and service is nicer? read more

The shoe selection is notably less interesting than other Bloomingdales can be, but I often find sale prices that exceed discounts available at Bloomingdales.com. It's also helpful to know that this Bloomingdales has a lower price-point than some other Bloomingdales (like SF & NYC). I had avoided this Bloomingdale's for YEARS after encountering a nasty Burberry sales associate here (Yeah, I've been known to hold a grudge or two...). I went back this weekend and was pleasantly surprised. It may be my new go-to department store in DC! Men's suits: The men's floor has an okay selection of men's suits (e.g., Canali, Armani) at a more reasonable price point than the Saks Men's Store on the next block. The sales associate was very accommodating and the tailor gave his honest assessment and advice, rather than trying to close the sale. (Note: You do need to have some knowledge of suits and fabric before relying on the suit section here -- Many of the Hugo Boss suits, for example, were pretty cheap looking and would probably exhibit noticeably fabric pilling after just a few wears... which the sales associate won't tell you, of course. Burberry: I also couldn't resist checking out the Burberry section again and was blown away by the sweet sales associate there. She apologized for the clunky security tags on all the coats and insisted that she didn't mind if I tried on 100 of them. I ended up buying an awesome navy trench from her, and wouldn't hesitate to go back again. I also noticed a sale section that had some coats and apparel at 25% off, which is a great deal. (Note: If the Burberry garment bag is important to you, shop at the Burberry store. You just get a standard black Bloomingdale's garment bag here.) The Bloomingdale's points system makes this an even more enticing place to make big purchases! I've been a "Loyalllist" member for years, but had no idea how the points worked and have never cashed them in. There was some kind of special bonus point promotion, I think, because this weekend's suit purchase resulted in a whopping 50,000 points.... Every 5,000 points is worth $25 to spend at Bloomingdale's, which you can spend a month after earning the points. So, I can go shopping at the end of the month now and already have $250 to work with! The points do lost 75% of their value at the end of the year, so you need to keep an eye on how many you've earned and cash them in ASAP. read more

Worst customer service. I was looking in the jewelry department for a while and had to go find an employee in another department to ask them a question. Turns out the jewelry ladies were all chatting at the Nespresso bar not helping anyone but themselves. I went to fragrance looking for a specific scent and the woman had to track down someone else to help me. They didn't have what I was looking for. No one was near any of the skincare brands. My one good experience was the woman at the David Yurman counter who was helpful. read more

I purchased MCM Handbags from them 3 years ago. Within the first 3 months, both bags appeared to be "SLUM SHOP" items, discoloration and seam damage The Sales person reported their was nothing she could do about it. Remember, $700 plus dollar investment. I was livid , so a Mgr was requested. The only one available worked in HR. She offered to send our bags to NY for services since within first 90 days. The larger one I purchased as a Xmas gift for my daughter. I kept the bonus clutch one. I was actually offended then because she offered to give us 30percent off the purchase of a new one. Why would I be interested in investing any more $$ after this happens but even worse---a lack of empathy and immediate resolve with some offer of a bonus. NOT! Two weeks later, our bags were returned---reportedly intact. No answers to Why? Lo and behold, we've returned 4 times since then. The clutch was swapped once and again, the coils are hanging from both bags. My daughter who was in high school, now in college cuts the wires periodically (how humiliating! I'm a loyalist member I've returned on 3 other times over the last month to meet with a MGR only to be treated as if I purchased at Walmart. Is it my color...idk. However, I've lived in that neighborhood for some time. Never to be treated in this manner. A $700 bag should age gracefully---like me! I've emailed the MGR. Who hopefully understands QUALITY CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! read more

As department stores go, Bloomingdale's in Chevy Chase is one of the best. It has a classy elegance to it which is hard to find in today's mass-market retail world. The store is airy and spacious and an enjoyable place to shop. Anyone who shops in DC knows it's a city not really known for very good customer service but I've always had a very positive experience at this location. What sets the staff apart from other stores (I'm looking at you, Macy's) is the staff here actually know about the products their are selling you and can tell you more than just the price. The men's department is excellent. Not only do they have a great suit selection but their casual wear is on-trend. There isn't a furniture department but they do have a couple pieces of Mitchel Gold Bob Williams furniture for sale; for a full furniture and rug department you'll have to go to the Tysons Corner store. Parking is validated for 2 hours in the garage. read more

I was in here with my friend who was looking for some Chanel concealer. The woman at the Chanel counter took over half an hour to wait on my friend (she was with another customer, no big deal, we can wait our turn). But then after my friend ended up purchasing her concealer the woman turned to me and told me I need to "do something about my eyes". I'm Italian, I have naturally very deep set eyes that can be mistaken for bags under my eyes so I explained that to the woman and she insisted I must buy some of their products to "fix" my eyes. I understand she has to make sales, but I'm 25 years old and not in the market for anyone to fix the eyes I've had my entire life. If you want to be insulted just so a woman at a makeup counter can make a sale, then Bloomingdales Chevy Chase is perfect for you. I don't think I ever knew what amazing customer service ever once until I came to the Bloomingdale Men's shoe section. Something magical happened here when I was with my BF to buy shoes. The lady was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and seriously a men's shoe expert. I saw her work her magic on not only my bf, but this other man who initially wanted to ring up his socks. I was pretty amazed. The selection of men's shoes was limited, but I'm sure you'll find something in its neatly organized section (unlike the messy and unhelpful woman's section). I really wished I knew a female shoes representative that could be as amazing and helpful as this lady was. Gentlemen, if you have $$ to spend, go here for all your shoe shopping. Just because you have a shiny storefront in Chevy Chase doesn't mean you have a world-class store. The online customer experience is awful. A simple transaction took an agonizing took 1 hour and 10 minutes to resolve. Five different representatives flip-flopping and transferring you to another department to avoid solving the root cause of the problem. The climax was when one representative transferred me to Macy's customer service for a Bloomingdales account issue. Really? Study your customer insights data and understand why your shoppers are moving to Nordstrom and other online outlets ahead of the curve. read more

This is a great store. The service is fantastic (ask for Anna or Kofi), the frequent sales take the shock out of retail prices, and they get you drunk for free on Saturdays! I was not expecting much after seeing the crappy men's selection in the Tysons Bloomingdales, but Friendship Heights blows it away. As mentioned, the decor is immaculate, and once the rest of Wisconsin Place is set, this will be a little corner of retail nirvana. read more

I love this store! This is (until the Georgetown store opens) the only local Bloomingdale's not built in the '70s, so it feels very fresh and modern. It's a little shallow on home goods, but the other departments are very well stocked and easy to shop. Service is good and the prices can be exceptional when there's a sale. The only improvement I would make, other than a full home department, would be a nice in-store restaurant instead of only a coffee bar. read more

I like that they have a variety of European brands you can't find anywhere else. The cosmetics section is excellent, and I cannot visit this store without seeing Barbara Zatcoff at the Channel counter. She is an amazing makeup artist and has converted me to a Channel girl. Not many stores carry their makeup, but I love the quality, and it's worth every penny. read more

The department stores here are like shopping at the Salvation Army, the Nordstroms is gross, and Saks and Neimans don't have nearly the stock of other cities. This is a gem. A gem. Brands, brands brands. Fabulous help, ready to meet my every need. The shoe department, the bag department, the CLOTHES. And the sales! I ended up getting a $600+ Elie Taheri jacket for $129! I found my store. I guarantee that White Flint Mall will close. This place is everything I have been looking for in one fabulous store. The staff is amazing, the sales, the shoes, the everything. I purchased a dress for an evening opening event for my alma mater's Homecoming weekend. It was a special invitation event being held at the Liaison Capital Hill Hotel's Rooftop Lounge. Just a two hours before the start of my event, I opened the dress my bag was packaged it when I had bought the dress AT Bloomingdales to find that the security sensor had been left on the dress. Okay, you can throw all the #firstworldproblems jokes you want at me, but this is quite literally one of THE worst feelings. Especially when the timing is incredibly inconvenient. I called my mother in a panic and crying. She told me to call Bloomingdales immediately and tell them. The Chevy Chase Bloomingdales is about a 10-minute drive from my house (depending upon traffic). I reach the customer service associate who asks me "which department?" to which I say "I don't know what department!" and continue in a frenzy. She redirects me to another associate who then directs me to the store manager who I explain my situation to. I assured him that this sensor is NOT the three-inch black return device that Bloomingdales has recently introduced to prevent shoppers from returning a party dress the day after a fancy event. He was incredibly apologetic and felt awful about it. I mentioned to him that my mother informed me that Bloomingdales has had representatives come to their house in these types of cases. Without hesitation, he asked me for my address and which type of sensor it was. I actually ended up taking a picture of the sensor's front and back and texted them to the manager's cell phone so that the correct removal device was brought. He said someone would be on their way immediately! Granted, I knew it would take a little time as this person would be driving down Wisconsin Ave on a Friday during rush hour. After about forty minutes anxiously waiting for someone to show up and my heart pounding (I know I can be dramatic) the general manager of Bloomingdales in Chevy Chase showed up and in less than 2 minutes he was in and out of my house and the sensor was removed. While the problem originated from a sales associate's mistake, this is definitely one of the most supreme acts of customer service I have ever personally experienced. I cannot thank those individuals and the general manager especially enough for helping me. I happily slipped into my dress and felt like a rock star walking into the event! read more

I've had only mediocre experiences in the past at this Bloomies, but after today, this place won't ever get more than 1 star from me and I will not be bringing my business to this location in the future. After completing my summer internship, I thought it'd be nice to look for a little gift for myself as a reward for my 2 months of hard work. I found some really really cute Dolce Vita sandals I'd been eyeing online - and they were only $20! This is where the problems started at the Shoe Salon. The sales guy there never approached me, instead choosing to stand idly by; this was fine by me since I don't exactly appreciate pushy SAs either. After I asked him to retrieve the mate to my display shoe, it took him a whole 15 minutes to come back out, even though he'd already brought out many other boxes for other customers. The best part is, he brought me the WRONG DAMN SHOE. So he goes back inside, and another 20 minutes later, tells me that he can't find the shoe but is willing to take my name and call me when he does find it. I live about 1.5 hours away, so picking it up was not worth it. Nordstrom ships home for free, yet Bloomies insists on charging $15. SA tells me to go look upstairs and shop, and come back in 20 minutes while he "looks". I do just that, and come back to find him sitting doing nothing while my shoe is back on the display rack. Completely unacceptable. The same service was present in the other departments as well. Never once was I approached by an SA and I was frequently ignored for other customers who maybe had a "wealthier" look. Sure, I'm a teen and I wasn't in my nicest threads, but that doesn't mean I don't have money to drop. Commission is commission. Plus the stock at this Bloomies sucks anyways... especially the clearance stuff. Too snooty for my taste, sorry, I'm out. read more

I don't typically review on customer service unless it is absolutely relevant. The lack of service was appalling. I had picked up a boot to request a size and stood waiting and looking at the man behind the counter for about 3-5 min without him acknowledging me. He saw me because he had come out of the stockroom, but did not say a single word, or even politely ask that I wait to check what size I needed. I am not high maintenance and have worked in retail so I understand what is reasonable for a customer experience. There is no point in offering loyallist rewards and points when your store service is a deterrent from shopping with the company. read more

Love it! So happy they opened one here. The lingerie department is where I usually frequent. It has much greater selection than Nemian Marcus (though I still love it there), especially for those of us with bigger chests.. I feel like the bras at Neiman's are a bit too "old ladyish" if you know what I mean. It's definitely not cheap, so be prepared to spend a bit more but the quality is above average here.
