Fine option if you are wanting/needing plant-based but overall food was just okay. This was such a cute restaurant - it is attached to a health spa(?)/yoga studio, so the vibes of the building are calm/divine. They also have a ton of natural light, courtesy of their large, floor to ceiling windows on one side, which also made for good people watching on a rainy day! Loved what I got for my first time here! Beet Crunch Salad, $16: well balanced for texture and flavor. I would have like to have the coconut bacon a tad bigger so they don't get stuck between my teeth, similar for pecans to solidified the "crunch" in its name. The pickled celery was a surprise winner here and truly brought everything together! Green Dream Smoothie, $10.5: I substituted almond milk for oat milk and almond butter for pecan butter and I enjoyed it. The orange gave a bit more of a zesty taste than I expected it. Attentive service staff asked to make sure I wanted to substitute pecan butter for almond butter since I asked for oat milk instead. I am allergic to almond. Super nice and quiet indoor sitting. It's the same entrance as the Root Whole Body Spa. I didn't ask if they're under the same ownership. I got asked if I was a member of the spa when I placed my order. Perhaps there's a discount. Will definitely come back for other items on their menu. It's sure pricey and out of my way driving here from SE part of town; it's worth it for me personally since my mission this fall is to checkout as much plant based, vegan, vegetarian spots as possible. read more

Quite disappointing compared to what they used to be. We'd been coming to the NE location for years on most visits to Portland. They used to offer some of the best vegan brunch in town. Now they've completely ridden their menu of breakfast/brunch items other than on the weekends, and just offer rather simple bowls. The bowls contain very fresh ingredients, but are overpriced and not all that interesting. I got their Golden Dragon Bowl ($17), that came with lentils and brown rice as a base, "roasted" cauliflower and carrots (I put "roasted" in scare quotes because they really weren't cooked very thoroughly), raw spinach, and a few sprinklings of peanuts. The turmeric curry sauce is really nice though and is what makes this a tasty bowl. Otherwise, you're just getting base ingredients in a bowl for an elevated price. 3.5/5 My wife got the Bibimbap ($16), which came on a bed of brown rice, along with kimchi, pickled zucchini, broccoli, shiitakes, and usually tempeh but my wife subbed it for tempeh. She wasn't too enthused with all the pickled stuff, being way over the top. She also wasn't terribly enthused with the gochujang sauce -- she can definitely make it much better at home. This one was a bit of a letdown. 2.5/5 The dark roast coffee ($2.5 with free refills) deserved a special mention, as it was one of the better coffees I had on this stay. All in all, maybe we'll have to come back on the weekend. But these bowls were pretty underwhelming, albeit healthy and tasty enough (at least mine was). read more

Yum.... This place rocks, especially for a cafe. Everything is super flavorful, complex, textural, delicious and healthy. And plant-based and allergy friendly. Favorites of mine are the creamy squash pesto, the tom kha soup and the berry hot date smoothie... but everything is really good. Even if you're not vegan, I highly recommend this place. Don't mistakenly assume vegan = too light or un-filling. The bowls are hearty and very, very good. The cafe is tucked in the Root spa, but has plenty of seating (indoor and outdoor) and the service is very quick. With several restaurants in Slabtown now only open for dinner, this is a great lunch option. read more

Came here during lunch and was able to sit outside. They have a cool huge open "window" so even the inside of the restaurant kind of feels like you're outside. I went here on Monday and was enticed by the great atmosphere. Unfortunately that's where it starts and ends with my experience here. The food was a little frozen in some parts?? And the texture was really slimy on the tofu. I would give this place less stars but the smoothie was really good, so if you want to grab a yummy smoothie from here, do it!! But the food is just not good enough for how much they charge. It seems like they pride themselves a lot with the way their business looks but don't deliver with the food. Yet another pseudo-hippy health restaurant in the PNW that looks pretty but tastes bad. It sucks to spend a chunk of change on frozen food chunks. read more
