Stopped in here for lunch and was really impressed with this cafe. We ordered a Tiramisu Latte, Peppermint Mocha Latte, and a Chai Latte and all three were excellent without being too sweet. I split the Power Veggie sandwich and Hearty Green smoothie and enjoyed both. My husband said the Club Sandwich was also delicious. I always enjoy their food whether it's plant power sandwich, French hot dog or home made brownie. You can substitute bread for bagel or croissant, modify ingredients to your liking or add egg for extra protein. Everything tastes fresh and home made, and you can pretty much satisfy your hunger. Uncomfortable interior. All the furniture is such that you can't sit there. Not bad cakes, but the choice is very small. The coffee is better than in many American coffee shops, but for me it's still not very tasty. The staff wears very dirty aprons, I'm afraid to imagine what's going on in their kitchen. At the time of this writing, late june, blue fig Cafe has only been open a few months. Customer service is outstanding, the cafe is so very clean, and very importantly, the espresso was European espresso perfectly well done. We did not eat although they have a very lovely, simple Cafe perfect menu. It's not meant to be a restaurant, it's meant to just put a little food in the belly with your coffee. Homemade goods, and they looked way better than Starbucks which is priced way higher. The owners are from Czech Republic and sensible, with European sensibilities, and really nice people. Cute environment, high expectations walking in, and was greeted by cashier. While deciding what to get, the cashier was getting reprimanded by who I can only assume was the manager or owner. Awkwardly waited for her to finish before I could place my order. The latte was mediocre; a whole lotta milk with a hint of coffee flavor. We went back to ask for an additional shot. It cost $3 for an additional shot. We paid.Most joints charge an extra $.75-1.00 for a an additional shot to boost a latte. Maybe the food is good, but won't be coming back for coffee. We were surprised it was packed considering there weren't many reviews on this place. Staff were friendly! I think it was the owner? who welcomed us in, took our orders, and answered the questions we had. I got the chocolate strawberry latte, the strawberry syrup tasted like it was made in house (not too sweet and a ton of strawberry/green flavor). The americano was good! Not as strong as what I'm used to but it wasn't bitter like places who don't use the correct beans. Will return if we're ever in the area :) read more

I'm a children's' entertainer and passed through town on my way to a birthday party. I had never even heard of Long Grove, but luckily had time to wander the town a bit before my next job. Stopped to have a quick lunch at Blu Fig Cafe, and I'm so happy I did; I love little independent cafes, and high quality sandwich shops are kind of hard to find in my opinion. I ordered the Plant Power: veggie and hummus sandwich... omg. First of all, Illinois in general doesn't seem to grasp what sourdough bread is. It's not white bread. It's not French bread. It's sourdough. This place has figured it out. Whatever source they use for bread, it tasted like it was baked in house. The sandwich was flavorful but not heavy, and loaded with hummus and veggies. I'd try to recreate it at home, but I'd rather make the drive for the friendly atmosphere and yummy lunch at Blu Fig. I'll be back for sure. read more

I wanted to love this new addition to the area for coffee shops, but they definitely have some things to work on. The drinks - we got two iced lattes. The prices were ok, a little high and almost $1 extra for non dairy milk. The espresso is pretty good but a bit over roasted and bitter. Could be a lot smoother but not too bad! The food - we got chicken salad on a croissant and a club sandwich. The breads were great and the sandwiches were wonderful. They did take a little while, but when two people are running a coffee shop, time consuming food prep isn't easy, so this is understandable. Here's where the two stars are knocked off - with running a small business, or any kind of business, customer service is everything. Our experience left a bit of a sour taste. The man who works here is Fantastic (not sure who the owner is, the man, woman or both) and he was very professional. When we walked in there was a group of women sitting talking and when we walked in they stopped everything, stared at us judging, and were dead silent. After standing waiting at the counter for service a woman gets up from the table and casually walks over to help us. This was very odd. You should immediately welcome people in and ask how you can help. She asked what we wanted, couldn't bother to crack a smile, and her attitude was very much so that is was a privilege we patronized her business. I would definitely brush up on this because it makes the experience uncomfortable, but people can always improve. read more

From the description on Yelp I thought this was going to be a small restaurant so I went out of my way to stop there and it was just a coffee shop with a few sandwiches on plain bagels. You didn't get a choice of and everything bagel or a pumpernickel bagel a whole grain bagel was just plain bagels. I have been coming here almost every morning and getting this latte. The customer service is amazing. Latte is amazing. Today, I tried the Nutella croissant sandwich and it was amazing.
