This place was absolutely atrocious. I was out to dinner for a friend's birthday and was blatantly disrespected by staff. We ordered food and paid, and half of my party was capriciously kicked out with no due reason. The waitress was extremely rude, and after complimenting her outfit, she barked at me multiple times. The bouncer had no chill at all and was trying to start fights that I would definitely have beaten him in. Our food was absolutely terrible and the chef was aggressive and unprofessional. The flatbread wasn't even frozen pizza quality, the crab sandwich was completely cold on the inside, the "chicken adobo soup with chiles and avocado" was room temperature and contained no chiles or avocado -- was just plain chicken noodle. Plus, the smoked salmon plate on a bagel with capers, truffle, egg, etc., apparently doesn't exist. I only wish I had taken pictures of the food because it looked nothing like the food in any positive reviews here or elsewhere on the internet. Don't know if they changed hands or something, but do not expect your food to look enticing or presentable. When I sent the salmon back because it was not the dish I ordered for our brunch (this plate included cucumber, tomatoes, Parmesan, and a dinner portion of herb-crusted salmon, nothing else), the chef came out and essentially told me I was wrong, that smoked salmon was ALWAYS hot (which is plainly not true..what kind of chef is he?), and that this was the dish I ordered minus the bagel because they were out of bagels (which I wasn't warned about). Given that none of the other ingredients on the plate were correct, I tried to explain that it was simply not the right dish, but he interrupted me to the point where one of my friends had to say "Excuse me" loudly to get him to stop talking and listen. He was plainly accosting us. It was BY FAR the most bizarre and hostile interaction I've ever had at a restaurant. They did comp the salmon and the soup, and give us some percentage off the bill, but that's probably because it wasn't what we ordered and neither of us ate our dishes. On top of that, I have never been so affronted when all I've tried to be is polite at an overpriced restaurant. Please stay away at all costs. read more

Total joke. Ordered two drinks, an appetizer and two salads at a 7pm seating. Appetizer came after 45 minutes, main courses served at 9:25. Received no apology from the manager, who preferred to spend his time chatting with staff, looking at his phone and smoking his juul. Multiple tables around our party either left before receiving their food or received the incorrect order. Icing on the cake was returning to the restaurant after 10 minutes after accidentally leaving sunglasses at the table. I inquired with the hostess stand, one of the hostesses says "are these them?" and pulls them off her own head. Real integrity here, guess lost and found is a first come first serve basis for the staff. Management needs to revaluate every facet of this restaurant. Unsettling and unprofessional experience...planned a birthday dinner outside for 8 and decided to try Blu Mar after viewing their social media and seeing they had a happy hour and live band on Friday from 4-7. When we arrived at 5:30, a hostess noted that we had to rush because they changed their mind and the happy hour was ending at 6. With many waiters and the manager eyeing us for 5 minutes, another individual came over and said the restaurant decided not to offer the happy hour and there would be no live band. This interaction felt like a complete SCAM! They see a table of young girls and decide to completely dishonor what they advertised on their social media and on the phone when I called? The staff was sketchy and we should have left the moment we arrived. Our waiter was kind, but the food was some of the worst I have had at a restaurant. The pasta tasted like watery oil with no salt or flavor...GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. read more

I came with such high expectations, falling victim to the hype, and left very disappointed. The outside seating was pleasant, the service was mediocre but as expected from a restaurant season that only lasts three months, and the food was undoubtably low-grade, tasteless, and bland. Not farm-to-table, more like freezer-to-table, and definitely not Michelin rated quality. We came with a party of seven and ordered several appetizers which were pretty good and tasty. The tuna ceviche was excellent, so was the Greek salad and burrata. For entrees we ordered several fish dishes - the dorado, halibut, sole, and sea bass. We also got the seafood stew. Everyone said their dishes were tasteless with no flavor. When ordering the fish they grill the entire fish and then they can debone and serve for you. We all had asked our fish to be deboned (fillet) for us, and maybe thats why they all tasted so bland. We expected some salty, and slightly oily flavor when a fish is grilled but what we got was fillet that tasted like paper. When the waiter asked how the food was the table was silent. The entire table didn't know what to say and also didn't want to be rude to the waiter since he doesn't make the food. The chef in the back is the reason for the low review. We asked for the check (which had to be re-issued because they charged us for an item we never ordered) immediately and left before dessert. read more

Living in NYC, you are spoiled by having the best restaurants right outside your door. Since the Hamptons are essentially an extension of the City, you would think it would be the same, but it's the opposite. This falls into the category of overhyped, underperforming. Yes, the restaurant is helmed by a Michelin star chef, but I can tell you right now, he won't be receiving another Michelin star for Blu Mar. Everything was a total disaster here. We arrive to a nearly empty restaurant at 7:35 p.m. on a Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. reservation. Our table is not ready. Puzzled faced amongst our group. After hanging out at the bar for a whopping 10 minutes, we are seated. This reminds me of the clubs with the long line and you get inside to see it empty. Nonetheless by 8:00 p.m. the place is PACKED, so packed that things start to look frantic. There is not a huge bar area and people are standing around blocking the way of the servers. Speaking of which, the tables here are packed so closely together that they kick your chair nonstop throughout dinner. It wasn't just us, several tables had to rearrange their seating because they were constantly kicked. At this point, service becomes nonexistent. It took almost 45 minutes to get appetizers that were likely already prepared (hummus plate). Plus, this was after flagging down several individuals to ask what is going on. Our drinks were empty long before the apps arrived and no one came by to see if we wanted another. It's almost 90 minutes after we ordered when our entrees arrived and they were not what we ordered. We received the swordfish rather than swordfish kebabs. I hate capers, and the swordfish comes in a lemon caper sauce, which was why I didn't order that. I didn't send it back, because they said it would take at least 15 minutes and at this point I couldn't wait to get out of there. My husband ordered a medium steak, which was grossly overpriced at $68 for NY strip. Calling it rare is an understatement, it was nearly raw. The outside was still red. That had to go back and I felt terrible because he was STARVING. Additionally, the lamb was undercooked. Honestly shocking anything was undercooked considering the long wait for entrees. The silver lining was that at the end of the meal they didn't charge us for the swordfish, but really, that was their own fault. The rest of the food was average. The hummus was good, but the pita was hard and seemed like it was left in the oven too long to warm up. We also had lamb chops which were fine. The carrot side order was also just fine. I felt like they should have offered a free round of drinks or anything else to make up for the disastrous meal we had. With the long wait for food there were several conversations about leaving and going to the McDonald's in Southampton, and it all seriousness, they probably would have been a more satisfying meal, which means a lot considering I am not a fan of fast food. Clearly, they are just interested in being a seen and be seen restaurant in the Hamptons, which is fine, if that is your thing. I'll admit, it's a beautiful space. However, there are restaurants with both good food AND a scene, so you're probably better off there. This really makes me miss EMP Summer House. read more

Key Lime "Pie" looked and tasted like no Key Lime Pie I have ever had, and I don't mean that in a good way. We were excited to have a fun family dinner at Blu Mar on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. So much for that. I confirmed the reservation on the Thursday before, and the woman on the phone convenient,y neglected to tell me that they had lost their liquor license several days before due to multiple Covid-related violations. Instead, I found out through a bush-league, unprofessional move when they called 90 minutes before my reservation on Saturday to give me the news. They did that because they knew full well that we would have no other options at that point and would be forced to come. So that was true and we went. The lack of alcohol aside, the service was terrible. - Took an unusually long time for our waitress to acknowledge us - Three out of our five appetizers came, leaving the other two of us sitting for 15 minutes waiting. Then instead of my appetizer, they brought my entree, which they obviously had to take back. - Then, they brought my entree again, but not the other four. After ten minutes of me staring at my plate waiting for the other entrees, our waitress realized she should take mine back to the kitchen and bring them all out together - After all this, the one staffer who was actually over 25 brought a bottle of sparking water "on us" to make up for the service debacle. When the check came, a $10 water charge was on it. They removed it when I pointed it out. This is an amateur, unprofessionally-run restaurant that we will not be returning to. Even if the service had been great, the way they handled the communication about their liquor license was disgraceful. They accomplished their goal of making sure we came, but they lost what could have been a long term customer relationship had they been honest and up front days before when I called. read more

We went for dinner. 20 minutes in, the doors to the club opened into the restaurant. We were told if we wanted to stay for dinner, we would have to purchase a bottle. We gave the waiter a credit card to open a tab. Took over an hour to order our first round of drinks and when we did, the waiter said there was no credit card on file. Every 10 minutes $50 purchases were being added to my credit card bill, but "there was no card on file". They said that they lost my credit card, and in exchange, they would give each of us ONE free espresso martini. After hours of arguing with the manager, he said to just cancel the card as it's not his problem. Will never go to this place again and I suggest you don't too. They steal your money and the people at the "club" don't look a day over 18 read more

We went on June 16. Were concerned about reviews from June 15 that we would be disappointed. Restaurant was beautiful, food was excellent- monkfish like butter and halibut seviche outstanding. Desserts, Panne Cotta amazing. Service had one small glitch - white wine arrived a little warm but once cooled was terrific. Our waiter was professional, warm and accommodating. This restaurant is amazing. The service was top notch. The staff was very attentive. The food was incredible. I tasted several items on the menu and I was please with all of them. Personally I had the sea bass and I was not disappointed. The chef came over to greet us and offered us a free tasting of oysters which were not even on the menu. We were there to celebrate a friend's birthday and the management gave us complimentary champagne and a slice of cake for the birthday girl. Made reservation via open table, in which I received a courtesy call to see if I was gonna CANCEL MY RESERVATION!? Wait I think you call to CONFIRM A RESERVATION!! It wouldn't be that big a deal if this wasn't a MICHELIN STAR CHEF RESTAURANT...I's must be dotted and T's crossed. We were seated inside which is decorated with classic painting of Marlyn Monroe and Sag Harbor. As we sat I noticed that the window ledge was covered with dead flies and gnats...undercover of salt lid had a red substance on it...ordered a bottle of sparkling water with lemon and lime..lemons were mushy and limes brown. I am starting to be annoyed and if not for our waiter Nick I would of left. For starters we ordered the bruschetta and soup de poisson, which was a very gritty lobster stock...I would thick they would have a chinois or tamis. For dinner my wife ordered the Halibut and roasted cauliflower and I the Monkfish Osso Bocco. After apps were cleared it was 35 minutes till dinner arrived,which wouldn't be bad but there was only three tables in service. When dinner was served my wife's Halibut was so dry we could of used it for kindling!! My monkfish was missing only one ingredient....FLAVOR!! Not to mention it was served over risotto which was not stated on menu. Two dishes were not cooked to the temperature we asked for, one had to be sent back, and they screwed up the other entree and brought the wrong thing. What an amazingly accommodating staff and not to mention delicious food. I have severe food allergies which makes it very difficult to eat out. I called ahead and was connected to the head chef. He had a delightful disposition and listened attentively to my description of my dietary reservations and insured me he would take severe caution while preparing my meal. When we arrived we were great with smiles and seated. Once our food was ready we were served by the restaurant manager who reviewed the specifications of my order. It was so wonderful to be able to eat my meal with confidence that it was prepared correctly. My husband was equally impressed with how delicious his meal was and with the large portion sizes.
