I came in on Cinco De Mayo, probably their busiest day of the year. Despite the chaos, the staff did their best to keep the waiting list orderly. We waited for about 70 minutes for a seat and I wondered if it would be worth it. It was! For the holiday, they used a special menu with some of their most popular features. The grilled burrito was probably the best I've had with plenty of queso and seasoned chorizo. The Mexican rice was delicious. My friend had and order of nachos and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lunch time pick after visiting the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. The outside patio was packed and music was lively so it immediately drew us in. The host had an attitude from the very beginning and he unfortunately didn't represent the establishment on a positive way. Apparently you shouldn't ask if there are any items in the menu that he'd suggest. We sat inside at a small table top which was perfect for the two of us. Our server was much more pleasant and we followed her lead with every recommendation. Blood Orange margarita...YES PLEASE! It did not disappoint!! Started with queso and added chorizo. The chips were fresh and perfectly salty and we scraped out the dish. We weren't super hungry so we split the grilled fish street tacos and Mexican rice. There is not a thing I would change. As a downtown resident, I frequent blue agave. The food is usually good; service hit or miss can be a little aloof, but overall it's good. BUT now they are charging a 3% fee if you aren't paying in cash, and it's not written anywhere until your receipt shows up. WTF, yes, I know 3% isn't a lot. It's the principle of it. Credit card fees are everywhere banks charge 1 to 3% transaction fees that have been known for decades accepting credit cards, and transaction fees are the cost of doing business. It's a shame they now feel the need to pass it on to the consumer during a time no one is carrying cash anymore. I won't be returning. read more

Spent the night in Cleveland before our trip to Vegas.. We decided to give this place a try and glad we did. We ordered street tacos and of course margaritas. Food was delicious. Drinks were yummy. Great atmosphere. Staff was friendly bartender was pretty busy since he was by himself but took great care of us since we were sitting at the bar. If your looking for something other than burgers. My wife and I were in town for a surprise anniversary weekend. Although our advance plans were not until Friday, we arrived Thursday night so we could enjoy the city. After a few hours at the JACK, we strolled down E. 4th and came across Blue Agave, so we thought we would give it a shot. Wow, am I glad we did. Once we entered, the staff were kind enough to let us know they were short handed that evening (only 3 wait staff members). We understood and decided to stay anyway. The wait, honestly, was not too bad given how many people were in the restaurant before 9PM. We ordered a classic margarita, a margarita flight, and two types of street tacos (the Street Taco and Chipotle Chicken to be exact). Once we ordered, it seemed like our food was out in minutes. The presentation was wonderful and the flavor was exceptional. In all honesty, they did say the margaritas were heavy handed...and that was no understatement. All in all, it was a great experience and one we are glad to have given it was not part of our weekend plans initially. What a great place to stumble across. Keep up the great work. It's not that it's bad it's just not authentic. If you're authentically Mexican this won't be your spot. I don't say it as an insult but for us Mexicans that grew up with our grandmas or moms in the kitchen this place is a bit disappointing. I ordered the Cadillac margarita, it was okay. Taste like it was straight out of an old bottle of margarita mix tried the bowl with carne asada, it was okay but a little dry (this Mexican girl did not grow up eating sour cream- it's not authentic lol). Asked for salsa, and the waitress brought two different kind one spice one not as spicy- trash!!! The spicy one is tapatio seriously and the other was a watered down version of salsa. read more

Walked over the place a to go order at 8PM and the manager said they were closing early and not taking any more orders because they "already turned off their fryers". Second time in a row. We had a less than stellar experience during our visit Monday night at blue agave. The host got us seated immediately at a small table. We sat there for over 30 minutes with no service or water. Nothing. We watched another table get seated around the 45 minute mark and got service almost immediately. Someone finally noticed us and a waiter came over ~ 10 minutes later. We got drinks after an hour and food ordered at the same time. Food arrived an hour later with some issues as we had a food allergy and the original request not met. No refills were offered and we left after 3 hours. I do feel somewhat bad and I might try this restaurant again. They definitely seemed to be missing staff or order. The restaurant was full but they would not clean tables to make room for new patrons. Service did not really improve even when the restaurant started to empty. I doubt this was abnormal as it seems many other reviewers had the same experience we did. Pros: Food is pretty good and portion size is good. Prices are about as expected Cons: Service Server seemed disinterested in serving us. Amount of time spent at the restaurant Drinks are fine. I do not drink much at all and these tasted more like standard mocktails. Not exactly worth $14 for fruit juice. read more

Terrible experience and bad food. We didn't want to sit in the front of the restaurant because it was tight and crowded, so I pointed to a table in the back but where you could see out to the street, and the guy seating us barked No! at us and we got stuck in a corner where we couldn't see... to the front of the place and the street, (which on 4th you want... it's part of the ambiance ) so after barking at us, he first tried to seat us right next to a family with little kids... I said no and we sat us a booth away... within five minutes he seated a big party right next to us.... Mind you there were other tables where I first wanted to sit but ummm no I guess!? And there was a waitress sitting in a both NOT in the corner rolling silverware... why does SHE get the view and better booth? Weird. Then the waitress came over she was lovely but it was hard to communicate with her... my boyfriend ordered the nachos.... (Lots of chips very little toppings )... meat was over cooked and tough. And the chips were bagged not made fresh and thick and had no flavor. I wanted a little cup of queso to go with it... again the communication wasn't great so we got a big pan of the bad chips with the tiny cup of not hot queso... sigh! We had already ordered entrees or we might have left at this point... so the entrees came... I had the carne asada... which was a cheap cut of very thin "steak" tough and flavor less... a tiny dollop of sour cream and some weird floppy lettuce... the best part was the beans and rice... beans were clearly canned and thinned out and the Mexican rice could have been more moist. Tiny bit of crumbled cheese on the beans. But tasted ok. My boyfriend got the Ohio Steak... Same situation as my "steak" thin, tough and flavorless... he said the pico was ok.... he got the weird floppy lettuce etc too... best part of his meal was the shrimp, nice sized, plump, juicy and not over cooked! A tiny miracle in this mess! A BAD experience! all around... bathrooms are in the basement... oh! My BF got a margarita which he liked but it didn't have much alcohol in it... so we spent $90 plus after tip ( yes we tipped 20% because her service was ok and it's not her fault the food sucks) on a terrible meal... clearly we won't ever go back... a group was approaching thinking of going in to see the menu and I told them it SUCKED and they said thank you! And moved on... a place you won't ever "miss"! Just move on! Ambiance wasn't bad some pretty lighting etc... but then the walls that look like tile? I touched and they are PLASTIC! I came here last Thursday afternoon with another person for lunch. Hector, our server, was excellent. He helped me in selecting an entree, margarita and dessert. All fabulous. Had a grilled chicken bowl. My friend had a enormous burrito. I had a blood orange margarita and tres leches cake. The seats were like bar stools which were a bit difficult to get in and out of.
