I don't usually leave reviews like this, but this experience was bad enough that it needs to be said. I walked in and seated myself at the bar. After waiting about 10 minutes with no acknowledgment from anyone, I decided to at least check out the restroom while I waited... and that's when everything went downhill. The floors were extremely sticky--every step literally felt like my shoes were pulling off the ground. It didn't feel clean at all. As I got closer to the restroom area, there was a strong smell of what I can only describe as wet, moldy rags. The bathroom itself was dark, oddly designed, and just gave an overall uncomfortable vibe. What made it worse is that the place wasn't even busy--there was only one table and a couple people at the bar. So the lack of service and cleanliness really stood out. By the time I walked back to the bar, I had already made up my mind. No one had still acknowledged me, and based on the condition of the place, I wasn't willing to take a chance on the food. I grabbed my things and left. Later on, I mentioned it at another restaurant and was told this place is known for poor food quality and lack of authenticity--which honestly aligned with what I experienced just from being inside. I can't speak on the food since I didn't stay, but based on cleanliness, smell, and service alone, I would not recommend this spot. Went during the St. Patrick's special and it was packed. No hostess at the entrance for about 15 minutes. After we finally got seated (20+ minutes after our reservation time) we waited 1+ for our drinks and 1 1/2 hours for our entrees and appetizers. Food was good. I got the happy pappy, sugar daddy and swipe right tacos. We also got the steak egg rolls, guac and chips, elote deviled eggs and I ordered the queso birria nachos but never received that. Visited Agave and Rye for dinner before a comedy show in playhouse square. They weren't terribly busy as we got there a bit early but it did take a bit to get greeted and a table. We got the the Shrimp Rangoon bites as an appetizer and my wife shortly claimed they were her favorite app ever. We each got a flight of Tacos, she got the Crown Jewel, the Island Banger & the Bomb. Success. I got the Happy Meal, the Yoda & the Snitch. All amazing. The atmosphere was light and fun while being fresh and formal at the same time. The hubs and I stopped in for lunch right after Agave & Rye opened this morning. The ambiance was fun, and the seating was definitely comfortable. I believe our server's name was Faith, and in the realm of servers, she was EPIC!! Deftly helped us navigate the menu options, stopped by at just the right moments, and you just knew with her personality she could make even Scrooge smile. Our meal started off with the Pick 3 Chips and Dip; I can't handle too much heat so my husband had the ghost pepper salsa all to himself, and we shared the salsa roja and fresh guacamole. We loved the dips--they each had amazing flavor all on their own. We both did taco flights. He picked Bee's Knees, Gangsta and Love Shack; his fav was the Love Shack, he enjoyed the Gangsta, and he felt the Bee's Knees was the least impressive. My flight consisted of Crown Jewel, Island Banger and the Bayou Baddie. The Crown Jewel had the perfect balance of flavors for me as a lobster lover, and I also truly enjoyed the Island Banger. The only one that was lacking to me was the Bayou Baddie, but from having alligator in the past I know it's hard to impart much flavor into it. At the end, we told Faith if we lived here we'd be dining at Agave & Rye six days out of seven and my husband would have to get a second job to support our habit. Stopped in for lunch while in Cleveland. Love this place even though it is a chain. I have been to the one in Indy before. The three taco combo was very good. I have one with chicken and Mac and cheese. Very good. I had a regular also good. The third one was steak but can't remember the name. The best way to have them is double shelled with a hard shell and a soft shell. Parking is street but easy during the day. Service was good. The decor seems to be the same as the other one. At the end of an evening of exploring Cleveland flats I happened upon this spot. First I have to say the aesthetic is so beautiful and unique. So much to look at it and take in as you wait for your food. I ordered the happy happy taco, and it was amazing. I can't say enough good things about the food. I really regretted not ordering more. I loved the aesthetic of this restaurant. It was super cute with lots of fun and bright decor and cute knick knacks all around. The food was really good when you actually got it... but dont be surprised if its not hot. We sat at the bar and didnt get noticed until 15-20 minutes after arriving. We didnt care about waiting only because we had nothing to do and we were visiting the city. Once we placed our drink order, we waited another 20 minutes for our drinks and we ordered the Irish Nachos which had brisket. They were AMAZING. I didnt even care that the food was cold. There was so much brisket it didnt really matter but it made the fries worth it. We ordered the Irish Nachos with our drinks but the food didnt come out for about an hour. Hence the not hot part. Popped into Agave & Rye on a Browns game day. Great deal with $3 domestics. My buddy and I just had a couple brews and then we each got a side of Mac n cheese to get something in the system. They used bigger shells for noodles. Solid Mac n cheese nothing to write home about but it's a taco joint so no worries. Staff was nice a little slow at times but no issues was decently busy. I have not had mac and cheese on a taco but the way they do it was so delicious, I could have had a few of those and called it a day. There are Bourbon poached shrimp on top with a drizzle of chili & bbq jam, then chunks of carne asada on top of the Mac N Cheese (and I don't even like mac & cheese). It was a fun evening with something for everyone. My crew and I took a short walk from our hotel to check out Agave & Rye. We really wanted nachos, (which I dis get to go) but once we saw the menu and our new friend Bill gave us the breakdown, we decided to try the tacos. We had two taco flights, a single taco, and a dessert taco. The birria really is the star of the show. Both girls who got flights loved the Gangsta tacos the best! The flavor of that birrea is exceptional! I had the Alderman taco, which was also excellent! There was a little too much mac and cheese for my friend's taste on the Rooster and the Crown Jewel. So many different flavors to choose from, everyone in your group will find something to like. We didn't have margs, but the descriptions were sure tempting.....next time! Save room for dessert because the suga' tacos sounded amazing too! We tried a bananas Foster taco. It was delish like the best banana pudding plus plus!!! We will be back next time we're in town and send more people to try alllllllll the tacos! We didn't even take pictures of the place. It's so cute. I came across this popping restaurant as I was walking around downtown on a Monday evening. Thankfully, it was not too crowded & I was seated quickly. Aaron took care of me & was super helpful with recommendations & what drink to order. I didn't have to ask him for anything because he was attentive. The ambiance was artists & chill. The decor is wall murals & chandeliers. Very funky & cool. I was dressed very casually & did not feel out of place. I felt like the music was a tad too loud, but that also could've been because I was sitting underneath the speaker. But not upset about their playlist. They immediately brought me water & told me about the menu. I ordered the Mac N Cheese Beignets to start. I didn't know what to expect with these, but they sounded delicious & I've never seen something like them. So I had to try them. I was initially hesitant because they were served with maple syrup. I tried them by themselves for the first bite. Hmmm, hit the spot. Crunchy on the outside & creamy on the inside. Very flavorful. The second bite, I dipped in the syrup & was surprised to learn it was spicy! Highly recommend ordering these! I had to do my best not to fill up on these & save room for my birra tacos. For drinks, I ordered the Strawberry Bombshell! It was so yummy. It reminded me a lot of an alcoholic version of the pink drink from starbs but a little more coconut. I ordered the birra tacos. I think I set myself up for this -- coming from Houston, an epicenter of Tex-Mex, Mexican, and Latin food, I'm often disappointed when I try it elsewhere. Ordered takeout here since it was one of the few spots open late near my hotel, so I can't speak to ambiance or service. That said, the food itself felt pretty average. The ghost pepper salsa was the standout (great flavor and kick!), the queso was fine, and the chicken salad was just meh. The first thing you notice at Agave and Rye is the fun and funky decor. Everywhere you look there is something different. They seemed to have two dining rooms and a nice outdoor bar/seating area. I imagine the bar will be very busy this summer. We went during the Taco/Tequila Crawl so the bar was very busy and there were people in and out quickly picking up a taco. We choose to be seated and order a meal. The Green Goddess was a very large vegan taco and quite good. I would have preferred my margarita in a glass as opposed to plastic, but that might have been because of the crawl. read more

I'm going to start this review off with the good things, because I think this place has good potential. Ambiance: the overall vibe was really cool, and it's a big place. It's got the great lighting and visually interesting stuff around. Big booths and big seating areas outside too. The food: overall the food was really good. It's different to have the hard corn shell inside a flour tortilla, and adds some good texture. Everything was seasoned well, and crispy things were crispy. Not pictured is the chips and queso which was pretty good as well. The margaritas were good as well. Now onto what was not great: everything else. First, the overall vibe of the staff was really off. We got there and the hostess was running around with a Togo order, and a line of 3 other parties ended up starting behind us waiting at the host stand. We saw at least 6 other people working that were doing anything they could to not make eye contact with any of us up front, even though most were truly looking for something to do. Once the hostess was able to come up about 5 minutes into us waiting, we got seated. I think it's important to note that we went yesterday (Tuesday) and they weren't crazy busy (plenty of open tables). I have worked in a restaurant before so I know that still may mean the servers are stretched thin, but throughout our whole 1.5 hour experience we continually saw servers basically hiding in the back area (we had a good vantage point of the back of the bar and the server station where they get the chips). We didn't get our server for another almost 10 minutes, and she took our drink and app order. We got our chips and queso, followed by our carne asada egg rolls about 15 minutes later, and I had to ask again for water. At this point the man at the table next to us got up and got his drinks from the bar, as they had been sitting there for quite some time. They were pretty annoyed, and it seemed like they had been there a long time before us and were still waiting for drinks and food. We got our margaritas about half hour after ordering them, and I had clocked them on the bar about 10 minutes before that. Our server was running around doing side work and hanging in the back corner, but walked by them countless times without grabbing them. This brings me back to the vibe of the servers- no one ran any food or drinks that wasn't theirs. It truly was baffling to see the servers go to the back to look busy, rather than check on tables or run food or do literally anything to help anyone. Finally a nice young lady who said it was her 3rd day brought our drinks. At this point our server took our dinner order. At this point one man had asked to see the manager a number of times and was being ignored, and we didn't see anyone who even seemed to be a manager. He eventually went back to his table. We're about an hour in at this point and the table next to us was super fed up. Their server stopped by once to give the bill and then never came back. Something was wrong on their bill and the man asked 3 servers for help fixing it and they all said they couldn't and that they would find his server. One saw him and turned the other way. The man was trying for a solid 15 minutes to get someone to help him. They finally just left without paying (not saying it is right that they did) and the server didn't even come to the table for another 10 minutes to realize they left without paying. We finally got our food, but man was it all falling apart in the restaurant. 4 other tables from outside and another section came over to near us to ask for a manager. The man from earlier went to the host stand and again was asking for the manager since they ignored him. A bartender came over to speak with him, but we paid and left about this time. I am generally pretty understanding about service issues since I was a server, but man, this place was a train wreck overall, which is a bummer because the food was yummy. read more

Got the three taco flight. The swipe right, gangsta, and the alderman. The swipe right was amazing with savory tender chicken and bacon. The gangsta was also delicious, if slightly harder to eat as the meat wanted to stick together. The alderman was good, but not quite as good as the other two.
