The food was exceptional I really enjoyed the king breakfast and my wife enjoyed the queens breakie (same dishes). Server was friendly young guy who told us to read the back of the menus and read the story it was cool. Ordered a pint and upon finishing half of it I notice sediment in the bottom of the glass and when I brought this to the attention of bartender on my way out she with a straight face told me "nope those are bubbles".....at the bottom of the glass which she didn't even attempt to inspect there was white sediment rolling around. It was most definitely not bubbles... I question the sanitation of the bartender at that point and leave it to my review. Would have been fine if she had actually taken a look and saw what I had mentioned but she didn't even care. Could have been worms in the line for all she knew. read more

So authentically British... Ambience is better at night and maybe with a bit of rain. Beautiful selection of beers on tap. Hoegaarten and Strongbow on tap! The Sheperd's Pie was served as a lasagna-like square. Fortunately, it wasn't drowning in gravy and each section was pleasantly distinct. What really stood out was the texture and quality of the ground beef. Ultra-fine and lean. The Fish and Chips are a must. The chips were ok but the fish was extraordinary. A thick brick of beautiful tender fish with a delicately fried coating so astoundingly thin that it seemed painted on. The Seafood Pie was ok. A little bit soupy for my tastes but it did have a crust with a really great, complex flaky-ness. I've been there a few times already. Sort of infatuated with this place. read more

Went here last night; had never eaten here, just had a few drinks here. I ordered chicken pot pie and my boyfriend ordered bangers and mash. Service was slow; I think there were only two servers and they must have been working at the bar as well since there are so few tables. The chicken pot pie was decent - it was similar to a Marie Callandars but with less flavor. I had to add a bunch of salt and pepper and that helped a little. The veggies were the frozen kind. The garlic mashed potatoes were tasty. My boyfriend, who rarely complains about food, said the sausage was very watery (frozen possibly) and not so good. He liked the baked beans and potatoes. I won't be dining here again but I wouldn't mind hanging out and getting a few drinks. Best spot on Atlantic! Having spent 20+ years in the UK, I can say this is about as good as it gets, at least in Florida!. It looks and feels just like the real deal, from the outside facade to the inside panels it is dark and dingy. The food is simple and great, and of course the beer!. As close to a true English pub as you can get. So close they even brought half the building from England. The beer selection is decent, the food is excellent, the service is top notch (and that says a lot about a bar for me), and atmosphere is chill. It's not one of those bars where the music is so loud, you can barely hear the person sitting next to you. The house band is always entertaining, playing rock classics from Britain and the US - Stones, Beatles, Tom Petty. All those classic songs we all can sing along to. If authentic pub atmosphere is what you are looking for, you have found the place. In fact, according to the owners, the whole of the outside of the original "Blue Anchor" pub, originally built in the 1860's, was dismantled in sections in England and shipped across the ocean to where it sits today. It hard to get more authentic than that! Solid pub food (fish & chips, meat pies, curries, roast beef with Yorkshire pudding etc) are served here. I have not been dissapointed yet! Prices are very reasonable and the portions are generous. Additionally, you will find atypical beers on tap here, such as Hobgogolin and Old Thumper. Service is ok and occassionaly dips, especially when busy. However, although you will get your food timely, you should probably order your drinks in advance of when you want them as the bar seems to get a bit backed up. read more

I love the Blue Anchor! Great English / Irish Beer selections, Pretty solid Food and always a great and friendly bartender. The place is great to kick it after a day of work with a few friends or to watch the latest soccer game. Outdoor seating also makes it a good spot for all my fellow smokers out there. The place has a ton of history behind it. They brought most of it over from England piece by piece and I have been told that the original pub in England was haunted due to a woman being killed by her husband up stairs. read more

Four stars alone for having Fuller's hand-pulled, cask-conditioned ales on tap. I haven't seen any hand-pulled ales in all of SoFla but I haven't looked very hard. Was there after the Delray Beach St. Pats Parade. They were busy. It did take awhile for the barmaid to find us but that's to be expected. This is not a trendy place. This is an old-school type relaxed pub with good food and beer. The decor is dark like you'd expect in a pub and appeared a bit old but I was surprised that it didn't feel old. In fact, it felt fresh and new and almost like it was designed to make you think old pub but feel fresh smokeless casual restaurant. Not sure if that makes sense but what I'm trying to say was that I kind of expected old and musty and that was not the case at all! We walked in at around 10pm on a Friday and a band was setting up. We were seated inside right away despite the place being pretty full. The band played rock covers and were very good. We ordered the potato skins, the Guinness pie and the fish and chips. All were quite good but I was most impressed by the amount of flavor packed into the pie. The pie came with peas which I didn't need but overall the food was great. If you're looking for a super relaxed good time with good food, give this place a try. read more

My husband and I go weekly to the blue anchor for the past 3 years. We started going just to change it up and have a little taste of home (we are English and Scotch) then fell in love with the homemade fish dip and HUGE chicken wings! The bonus was the family who owns it. The daughters are there lots and help all the time, greeting us with a big smile and our drinks! During COVID they started doing growlers so we could still get our beers, ales, and ciders without having to make more then 1 stop. Currently it seems they are adding back menu items weekly. We sit outside now. Plenty of space and tables! Last week they did have live music too. For a casual lunch or dinner with good comfort food try it if you haven't. We came a bit late for lunch, around 3 pm. Not sure if this played a role but our meals were pretty bad. My friend got the roasted half chicken and it was DRY and frankly, so bad he couldn't finish it. He ate the sides which were also bad but at least edible. I had the fish and chips and while the fish was fine, the chips were awful!! Dry and cold. Not sure but it looks like they just reheated leftovers from the rush several hours prior. We tried to return the food but the waiter wasn't paying much attention to us. Went to this pub with my husband, daughter in law and son we had 2 children with us. When we arrived we were told we could sit anywhere which was perfect. The bartender came over was very friendly and efficient. We ordered appetizers and drinks and it got very busy. We were not in any hurry but with 2 children they only last so long. The owner came over and took our plates which I had stacked and I politely asked if we could order. He said I'm sure you can took our dishes went around the corner threw them on top of other dishes so we could hear them crash. He came around the corner and glared at me as he walked. He made us sooo uncomfortable my daughter-in-law said let's go. Again the bartender came over said he was sorry and what could he do we left him a good tip and left. I knew they were busy and just thought he could tell the bartender we were ready to order. The owner is awful and I would not recommend this pub to anyone. If it was hot as hell outside, or you're in need for a warm and toasty atmosphere in the cold weather (maybe some holiday ambiance in an otherwise stark white, ultramodern South Florida aesthetic) - this is a welcome find. Fish and chips for $10 were fantastic, with a batter that was to die for. Menu of low priced but predictable pub fare, Chicken Pot and Shepherds Pies, bangers, lamb stew, meatloaf sandwich - but also some nice salads and cheeses boards. Super friendly and prompt service. Since I stopped for lunch, I can't comment on the bands that play nightly. So, I checked into the Marriott across the street on the ocean, and I'll slide back over tonight (Saturday night) to validate. My instinct it will be fun. read more

This is one of my have to go to restaurants whenever I visit Delray Beach. The service has always been pretty fast, we had a lovely woman last Sunday evening serving us by the name of Lori if I remember correctly. Food is always consistently good, my favourite is the Fish & Chips but their fried pickles and Bangers with mash or Shepherd's pie are all really tasty. The Blue anchor was great. I just moved to the area and this happened to be one of the first places on the Atlantic Strip I tried. I got a bit of the stink eye when I first sat down because I had biked there and was sweaty and casually dressed. But I was not treated poorly. I had about three beers and a $10 pork sandwich. Such a simple meal and not very representative of their menu, but the food was piping hot which is always revealing. What really made this place was the atmosphere. The bartender, the waitress, and 3 of the guests all had English accents. We were all watching "football" and once I mentioned that I enjoyed the English Premier League and would be back for that, the bartender introduced herself. I felt welcome watching with everyone on the far right side of the restaurant I felt very welcome and will definitely return to try some of their fare. read more

This is a good little British pub not far from the beach in Del Ray. Decent selection of beers with a few popular British brews. Our waitress was a friendly Brit who recommend food and drinks. We had the fish and chips. It was an ok portion for lunch. The fish was a nice piece of haddock with a good batter. The chips were ok. It was also served with plain peas. They have a great array of beers and the décor is vintage looking and gives the ambience of being in an old time pub. I've had the tuna melt sandwich and it was truly delicious! Wife and I had the fish and chips specials with a side of onion rings on Friday and it was wonderful. English beer batter style was great and portion size perfect. Got it to go due to Corona. Nice and hot upon pickup. Comes with a great coleslaw, vinegar and a good tarter sauce. Parking can be a bit tricky but thats the only downside I can find. read more

I've been coming to the Blue Anchor for years now, it's within walking distance from my place, but I'd drive any amount of time to come to this local treasure trove. It's one of the only places on the Ave to have a good time, while still being able to hear your friends across the table from you. Tommy is a fan favorite bartender of mine (like seriously, THE BEST), but Carey is the one who inspired me to finally write a review. She was so hospitable and friendly, despite the busy bar. She managed to carry a conversation with us while taking care of everyone around us, made us feel so at home. If you're into grabbing a drink, cracking a joke and making new friends, highly recommend the Blue Anchor. Oh, and the baked ham mac & chz + irish boxtys, just order them. read more

What a terrible example of an Irish pub. Terrible hospitality warm beer and rude bar tenders I couldn't think of any place to go in Delray Other than here. Bar tenders had an awful attitude and seemed like they were down each other's throats the entire night. Ontop of the fact the bar was sticky and dirty! I've seen comments from the owner saying he holds his staff to 5 star service. They were the best fish and chips we ever had . The fish was moist ,seasoned perfectly and the batter was delicious. We ordered the king portion and it was a huge piece of fish. Good grog, but not as impressed with the food, which is spotty. I order the plowman's plate which is my yardstick for pub grub. It was exactly 2 pieces of cheddar cheese and a hunk of Stilton for more than $11 . By contrast, I can go to the Australian of Lake Worth and get the same plate with so much cheese that I have to actually take it home, for the same price. The pours of shots are a little tight too. The tap includes a few English beers, mostly the overhyped and well advertised like Guinness. Boddington's or Murphy's Stout would be really awesome and show some urge to lure people into trying better newer things. Given the care with which the inventory is weeded, and the thrift with which the cheese was put out on the plate, one might actually think that this was a Scottish bar, and not an English pub. If you are not staying at one of the hotels, and you have wheels, Tim Finnegans is much more legit. With all the hotels around them, it is doubtful that the barmaid will stop socializing with her friends at the end of the counter ignoring the paying customers. Literally with the mass of humanity that now occupies Atlantic every weekend, it disincentivizes is any desire on the part of the management or staff of a lot of restaurants like this to improve because most of the people eating and drinking here are transient and won't be here next week, so does it matter if they didn't like it? If they want the locals business in the off-season, a little more attention to their A game might be helpful. read more

Gotta love this place! A British pub whose facade comes from a pub actually from the U.K., there is no denying this is the perfect bar to grab a quick pint of five. They know how to pour a Guinness and they certainly make a killer Black and Tan. The food is traditional pub food which is guaranteed to remind you of either a state fair or the U.K. itself, and the staff is personable and attentive. read more
