Nice people and seem pretty knowledgeable. Decent selection given the size of the shop. Only thing that still bugs me is that when the guy sold me a bike there, he said it was new. I noticed a few scratches on the handle bars and the grip seemed a little dirty. I asked again if he was sure it was new. He said yes. I trusted him because of all these reviews here on Yelp. After a few rides on the lake front and general up keep and cleaning I noticed a few more scratches and dings. I've never dropped the bike and have only been on bike paths. Looked up the original model online at manufacturer's website, saw it had different stock handle bars. Honestly, I still got a great deal on a great bike and they really were nice people, but it doesn't sit well with me that he would tell me it's brand new when it really wasn't. read more

Bought a bike frame off eBay to build a tri-bike for the neighbor kid. The frame was a new take off, that is the bike shop removed all the components from the frame and was just selling the frame and fork. Once I started the build I notice that the bottom bracket sleeve for the nondrive side wasn't going in all the way. Upon further inspection, I could see that the threads on the nondrive side were mess up and needed to be chase out. Call around to several LBS and either they didn't do that type of work or they wanted an arm and a leg just to chase out the treads. Called Blue City Cycles and they had the tool to perform this service and if I brought it down, they weren't that busy and could do the repair that day. Since I only lived about 2 miles from Blue City Cycle I was at their shop in 15 minutes. Owen took the frame and had the threads chased out on the nondrive and drive side side within 15 minutes. Paid Owen and went back home to continue the build. The bottom bracket went in smoothly like butter. It is always good to find a shop that does good work at a reasonable price, whether it be a bike shop or an automobile shop. Will tell all of my bike riding friends that this is a great shop to bring their bikes in for repairs or a tune. read more

This shop is great! I am inexperienced when it comes to riding in Chicago and some bike shops can be a bit intimidating. Claire made me feel totally at ease when I came in to get a new tube and was super helpful. read more

I have had two very positive experiences with Owen, the bike mechanic at Blue City Cycles. On both occasions, I had gone to other bike shops and they turned me away! I needed a specific part for a tandem bike, and Owen ended up just making it for me. Recently, I needed another difficult-to-find part and three bike shops in my neighborhood wouldn't even go out of their way to find it. I was told I should just go on ebay myself to find the part. After calling Owen on a Friday, he had found the part by Saturday and my bike was in the shop on Sunday. It was worth the long Halsted bus ride down to Blue City Bikes.. and this place is cheap! read more

This is my favorite shop in Chicago, for sure. Glad they're in Bridgeport. Prices are usually reasonable, but not as good as Irv's in Pilsen. They do carry a little higher-end stuff than him, but I like his shop for accessories like racks, fenders, patches and tubes, etc. Blue City has more knowledge about bikes, though, with Owen even doing frame repair and modifications.. It's a major plus. Owners Owen and Claire are really nicepeople and they know a lot. They also keep some used parts and bikes around, so they can sometimes hook you up with a nice deal. They are not pretentious in the way that north side hipster shops can be. I usually do my own bike work, but short on time, I had the shop perform over $200 of upgrades and service to my main commuter bike. I was really disappointed with the way the work was done that one time (parts loose and out of adjustment), and I ended up fixing it myself since heading back over there would take more time. It was an anomaly and I'm sure they would have fixed it if I brought it back. I continue to go there and fully recommend the shop, but with 4 instead of 5 stars. read more

Owen the owner is extremely helpful. He doesn't look for opportunities to get money out of you the way some mechanics do. On the contrary, he tries to give you the cheapest option. And while he was working on my bike, I had a chance to see the other staff members interact with customers. They were polite and helpful with everyone, from little kids to ordinary joes. No bike snobbery, no chiseling, just polite, helpful service. The shop has a small but interesting selection of bikes and what appears to be a full assortment of accessories. I've been to Blue City twice now as I live right down the street in the neighborhood and love supporting Bridgeport in any way I can. However, the employees in this store sometimes make it hard to come back. My first visit was to just check out the bikes they had on the floor and to talk to someone about selling my current Fuji bike. I was met with attitude by a female employee simply because I didn't have pictures of the bike. It was basically me just inquiring on the selling process at Blue City and letting them know a little more about what type of bike I had. This was a couple months ago so whatever.. Moving on to yesterday, however... I ended up purchasing a Bianchi from a different store but needed a new lock. I was originally going to just order off of Amazon but as I said, I like to spend my money locally whenever I can. So I walk in, not greeted by anyone of course. I grab the lock I want and walk up to the counter and there is an Asian guy sitting at the computer scrolling through what looked like their inventory system. I figure he's working on something for another custom so I wait... And wait... And awkwardly wait a little more. Finally, another employee, looked like one of the mechanics says "Are you ready?" And I say, "yep, just need to checkout thanks." And the Asian kid whips around in his chair, grabs the lock and promptly tells me that will be 54 dollars. Ok, here's my card and before I can even grab my ID he's flipping my card back and forth and rudely says "Yahh I'll need to see your ID." Once the transaction is over my boyfriend and I both say thank you and get no response from anyone in return. I mean honestly, I went to the store and got what I needed so fine, the shop served its purpose. But the vibe the store gives off is that the employees are too cool for school and really don't want to help anyone who doesn't look like a typical, serious cyclist. I honestly almost changed my mind at the register and was going to purchase off of amazon instead. I see some other reviews mentioning this Asian employee so maybe this is a reoccurring issue? Idk, but I really don't want to stop supporting a local business but unfortunately probably will because it's not a great feeling dishing out cash to a place who acts annoyed simply because you walked into their store. read more

Clare was unbelievably helpful, knowledgeable, and patient, as she walked me through the process of trying to buy a cargo bike. She talked to me about options to best suit my family, and after a stutter start of buying one, I had to back out. This terrible inconvenience didn't deter Clare from remaining utterly professional and understanding, saying, "It's a big purchase, and I understand." I'll still buy a child bike seat, basket, and another accessory from them, and when I'm ready to dive into the big cargo bike (after a few more miles logged on Chicago bike lanes), Blue City Cycles is where I'll go! I recommend them in a heartbeat to anyone in any part of the city. I live in Andersonville, and will travel to them in Bridgeport for my future bike purchases, repairs, and questions. read more

prices are insane. 15 for fixing a flat, thats not too bad. they charged me 2 for a little bolt. wtf those are less than a dollar on amazon prime. everything they have is ridiculously overprices, and the staff is not extremely friendly, or at least for the price they charge. basically they are scamming people for their prices: if you're new to bicycles and don't know your prices,, this is a place you want to avoid read more
