This is one of the few places on St. Armand circle that you can get breakfast. The food is great as well as the staff they are very attentive. Food is served quickly the location is a bit small but gives it a local dinner feel the menu has a decent amount of dishes and it is reasonably priced for a restaurant on the circle. My wife order a seafood omelette which is pictured and was huge and she enjoyed very much. Would definitely check this place out if you are on the circle. read more

Walked over the John Ringling Bridge to the Blue Dolphin Cafe. First time eating here and it was a great surprise to find great people working like Brandon, and great food. I had the Blue Dolphin Special - 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 pancakes (one was pumpkin - OMG), and home fries, and my girlfriend had the Blue Crab Eggs Benedict - she loved it. They use real crab and plenty of it. You can't miss with this place. Enjoy. 10/12/15 - came back the next day. I had the open faced egg sandwich and my girl had the breakfast wrap. My plate was great - she liked hers but said yesterday's meal was better. It had nothing to do with quality - just what she expected. I don't understand the higher marks for this restaurant. My husband had the cornbeef hash. It was dry and more green peppers than anything. The bacon was overcooked. They served water from the faucet with no filter. As wonderful as Lido Key is...the water is awful. This was mediocre at best and the service wasn't good or friendly. read more

Great atmosphere down home cooking, had breakfast wife and I got here little before 8 AM and shortly filled up. I had the Blue Dolphin special (eggs,pancakes, bacon and home fires) my wife country fried steak and eggs (homemade biscuit, steak, eggs, gravy and fruit with coffee cost $26.50. We were excited to find a cafe so close to where we're staying in the Lido area. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros, which I do wherever I find them. I was bitterly disappointed to be served what appeared to be scrambled eggs with a bit of green pepper inside, on half of a large flour tortilla (that's a foul) with a tablespoon of refried beans smeared on the bottom. Melted cheese on top didn't help. Served with a blob of avocado and some sour cream, as well as bit of salsa on the side. I ate most of it, not wanting them to throw it away, but I won't eat there again, and I don't recommend it, at least not for that breakfast item. While sitting there I Googled the recipe for huevos rancheros, found about 10, and not one of them featured scrambled eggs. Blue Dolphin Cafe, please take them off the menu until someone learns how to make them. I also found the restaurant to be dirty. They need to close for a day and deep-clean it. I hope they don't turn the ceiling fans on while people have food in front of them - the dust would be everywhere. My boyfriend enjoyed his over-easy eggs and slab of ham, though. read more

Blue Dolphin Café: Great service, satisfying food Blue Dolphin seemed to be the only option besides the hotel's continental breakfast in the immediate area. What first came to my mind was what a monopoly on the am shift this business had... it only occurred to me much later that I was hoping for some good food too. I split a bacon-and-cheese omelet for breakfast (I wasn't particularly hungry) with some additional whole-wheat toast, orange juice, skim milk, and coffee. The omelet was excellent! More on the verge of a frittata, it was ridiculously thick and packed with strips of bacon. As the fork sliced through the contraption, melted cheddar cheese oozed out of it which became an instant feast for the eyes and the stomach. The omelet, at $8.50, came with a side of chopped potato wedges and whole-wheat toast. Satisfying? Yes. Under $20 for the bill around St. Armand's eateries? Excellent. IN A NUTSHELL: It seems the Blue Dolphin gets it's adequate share of tourists much like the rest of Lido Key and St. Armand's Circle. However, it also seems to be a place of congregation for the locals that live in the few houses that still remain on the island. Customer service at the Blue Dolphin was great and it seemed all the severs work together to ensure that. Blue Dolphin is ONLY open for breakfast and lunch. Not only is Blue Dolphin one of the cutest places I've ever been in, it has amazingly friendly service and incredible food. I ordered the Spinach and feta omelet, which was not only enormous, but absolutely delicious. It had lots of fresh leaf spinach and huge chunks of fresh feta cheese. They also allowed me to substitute home fries or grits for a nice bowl of juicy, fresh fruit. It also had a side of toast or an english muffin as well. The omelet was so big, I was only able to eat half - and so I took half home for breakfast the next day! It was well worth the $8.95. I would come back here in a heartbeat! read more

My wife and I stayed on longboat key and as we walked the circle of downtown we noticed about 20 people waiting outside an inconspicuous little blue awning. Interest piqued, I checked inside and found that despot the relative size of the small diner-esqe interior the wait was only 20 minutes. That may be a put off for some, but for those of you that frequent extremely popular breakfast nooks you know the waits can be far longer than that. I went again Sunday morning and again at 9am the wait was 20 min for 2 ppl. The service is fast and prices are average for the meals but you're getting a good portion size for your dollar. I had eggs Benedict and was extremely satisfied, my wife had thier 2 eggs and bacon and couldn't finish it as she was stuffed. The omelettes looked ginormous. The only point of contention some might have would be the slight cramped feeling and the loudness attendant to such close quarters. Overall, the feeling is of a damn good, quick & friendly family owned diner. Keep a look out for this place if you're ever around! read more

Wish I could review the food but unfortunately I will only be able to comment on the service. First off, let me say that I understand this is a small dive like diner and so I went in expecting somewhat of a wait. I was not prepared for the lack of service exhibited at this establishment. I walked in with my wife. The place was not very full, only two other small groups were ahead of us. All three of our groups were waiting in the middle of the restaurant to put our names in or to be seated - it was not clear what system they were attempting to abide by. We waited 25 min. and not one of the three groups were addressed by staff. No jotting of names down, no wait time was provided, not a single group was giving seating after nearly a half hour! Obviously we gave up and decided to eat elsewhere after that wait. But this place was a huge waste of our time. If you are on vacation time and every minute is precious potential beach enjoyment time, then I recommend you not to even think of coming here. read more

Fabulous diner breakfast. The textures and are amazing. Way beyond just 'breakfast' food. They take regular breakfast food and make it better. They actually boil the breakfast potatoes before deep frying so you get this incredible crunch on the outside and a melt in your mouth, soft potato on the inside. Amazing paradox. The food was good or okay but not great or stellar. We will eat here again next time we are out in the area for breakfast. The French toast was thick and delicious, despite the heavy handed vanilla. They were good just too much vanilla for my personal preference. Gravy was fantastic! Biscuits were good but not great. Eggs, bacon, pancakes, and potatoes (home fries) were okay. Lack of seasoning or flavoring on the home fries left a lot to be desired. I was going to the St Armond's Circle Crafts Festival, so I decided to go here based on the reviews posted.Thanks to all for the spot on reviews. I got my name on the list and was given a 20 minute wait. It went by fast and inside the guesstimated time. I had an omelette with spinach, ham, mushrooms, and jack cheese at $8.95. Deelish. The home fries were good and not typically over paprika'ed. :) Side note: I found a lil tub of Smuckers Blackberry Jam in the jelly holder among the standard orange, grape, and strawberry selections. What a nice surprise. Yes, I believe it's a bit pricey but look at the neighborhood.I know I'll eat breakfast here again as it's conveniently located in THE target rich shopping area of St Armond's Circle. :) read more

If you get there before 9am the wait is usually under ten minutes. Arrive later and you could wait over forty minutes! The omelets are MASSIVE and delicious!!! I have a pretty big appetite and I still have a hard time finishing my plate! The home fries are average, so I usually get fruit instead. Other favorites are the banana granola pancakes, crab benedict and french toast! They did have a check-in offer, but like another yelper I got a very strange look when I mentioned it. This place was bustling for breakfast on a Saturday morning and my husband and I got seated at the counter after a 10 minute wait. I intended to get breakfast but saw mahi tacos in the menu, so I derailed to that because it was one of the few seafood choices I hadn't eaten on my mostly seafood vacation. My husband also opted out of breakfast and got the chicken quesadilla. The food came fast, but both my mahi and the chicken on his quesadilla were very bland. For me, the mahi itself was rather sparse under the pile of lettuce and tomatoes on each of the 3 tacos. And even though there was a huge dollop if Guac on his quesadilla, my husband's meal was still very under seasoned. Looking back, I think we both probably didn't make the best menu choices for a mostly breakfast cafe because we watched them making huge pancakes and crispy bacon from our seats at the counter and they looked pretty good. But all the same, seasoning is key in cooking and that's basics 101 so though fish tacos at a breakfast cafe may not boast the most fresh of fish or the best quality, it could still be better prepared. read more
