Went there with a small group on my grandson's 10th birthday. It was a Sunday and not overly busy in my opinion but we had to seat ourselves because there was no greeter and the service was slow. I ordered the perch basket and it looked like the perch had been in the fryer about 20 minutes too long. They were basically just hard, crusty, and flavorless and the actual fish part was pretty much non existent My son ordered a pizza and it was almost cold upon arrival. When the server brought us our checks she informed us that, because we were a group of more than 5 that there was an automatic 20% charge on each bill even though there were 3 different bills. I don't normally post reviews but this experience left me irritated. I really expected more from this establishment. We've gone here in the past and it's been pretty good but I doubt I'll be going back any time soon, if ever. read more

I really wanted this to be a cool fun place...with exceptional food...within lies the problem...the food was mediocre at best...I ordered a margarita which unfortunately I ended up sending back it was undrinkable. We ordered a grilled salad and onion rings. The grilled salad was basic lettuce with a piece of warmed up chicken...southwest dressing watered down and thin. The portion was the size of a generous side salad at most... The onion rings were OK..nothing notable You can not have food on the open level...and you can not get the same beers that are available down stairs...the only thing I can give a thumbs up on was the live music. It's been years since I've been to Blue Gill and I decided to take my parents here for dinner while they were visiting to reminisce. We had an excellent server, delicious appetizers, and filling entrees. We loved the grouper bites appetizer, but thought the shrimp appetizer was lacking a bit in flavor. I love my blackened fish tacos. And my family also enjoyed their entrees. We all felt the food was average+ overall, and the service was five star worthy. read more

Refused to serve us. We were in with a larger group and all at separate tables. They refused to give us different server when the server assigned to our group was overwhelmed. They refused to wipe down our table as well. When asking to be helped They told us we had to wait until they served everyone else's drinks before they would even take our order. Extremely disappointed in this place especially since our request was completely reasonable. It's been a long long time since I've had worse service in any establishment. We moved in to Haslett last summer and discovered this place. If you are looking for fancy, go somewhere else BUT if you are looking for great food and a relaxed atmosphere this is the place! This is a great neighborhood pub. The Blackened Salmon is killer! read more

I was very excited to try this place because the pictures online looked nice. We walked in and there was a sign to seat yourself but all the tables were dirty. We had to wait quite a while have someone come wipe the table down and it wasn't till we stood up to leave that we noticed that there was also a broken glass bottle under the seat with shards everywhere (we were in tall chairs and didn't look at the floor when we walked in). Our server took quite a while to take our drink orders and even bring us our drinks and she forgot my Diet Coke until just before the food came out and then I still had to remind our server that I had a salad with my food. There was also a server on a chair right next to me trying to mess with a ceiling tv for a large portion of the meal who was constantly dragging a loud chair around and getting up and down. I ordered a calzone for myself and cod for my boyfriend and the food was practically cold by time it got out to us. The batter on the fish was starting to get soggy and the pizza sauce for the calzone was cold. It was honestly one of the most disappointing restaurants we have been to in a while. We didn't finish all our food and we only tipped 15% while we normally always tip 20%. It's a shame because I was excited about this place but I can't see us going back. read more

Great atmosphere and bar scene. Very average food. Good pricing. Good Service. Really like the Blue Gill Grill for drinks and cocktails. The roof top bar is very cool. Great views of the park and the lake. TV's and bar make it a really neat place to enjoy a drink. The rest of the place it pretty cool as well. Nice bar. A little bit of everything. The food is underwhelming. I guess for bar fare, it is not bad. But as a sit down restaurant seems to be nothing more than a Sysco/GFS style cousine. Good service. Prices are very affordable. The only thing giving this place one star is the atmosphere. Seating is great, I love the open garage door concept. However the food is TRASH. I went with three other people and not one of us could take more than 3 bites of our entree's. The fish Reubens had multiple bones in them, and I couldn't even chew the steak given in the Street Tacos. The waitress also brought us the wrong shot I asked for a lemon drop and she brought back something with apple pucker, then on the bill rang it in as Johnny Vegas???? Went here last night with my boyfriend and two friends for drinks. I've been here before and its decent, but I'm not kidding when I say I went looking for a bathroom and I guess I looked at some girl the wrong way and she literally wanted to fight me lol. I decided to leave because I am in no way or form a confrontational person and as soon as I was leaving, this girl AND the waitress started talking about me¿ idk weird. The location alone gets The Blue Gill Grill and the Thirsty Perch (their rooftop bar) the most points. It is one of only a couple places in the Greater Lansing area with a view of water! That being said, it could be a great place, but they are so good at just being mediocre. The menu is mostly fried bar food and the rooftop menu is separate and even more limited. Some of the servers are very nice, and others can be really unpleasant. The Blackened Grouper Tacos are quite good. And the draft beer selection is decent. So we'll be back, since it's our neighborhood place, but I wish they would shift gears and move from mediocre to marvelous. read more

Fun restaurant facing Lake Lansing and it's park. Great in the warm months, when the upstairs deck bar is open. Downstairs, the garage door windows allow for generous light and ventilation. They were super busy, so I tried to overlook the terrible service. It took FOREVER to get a server to come to the table. When she did she told us it would be a minute. A long while later she came back. We ordered our drinks and food at once. She got my drink order wrong. And my food order was also wrong. The food and drinks I did get were not great. Bland and weak, but then again it's not what I like as it wasn't what I ordered. So I'm not sure if what I wanted would have been good or not. The waitress came by that one time to take our order. Second time eating here. We would come back but not a regular spot I would come. The specials offered are not what I would call specials. They are still high priced. The drinks were also priced high. The cheese logs are their speciality are good. The nachos were filled with lots of lettuce and black olives. Way too much of those. They could have used more cheese and chips. This is the second time in two weeks we've gotten the bbq chicken pizza at Bluegill. We love the place! It's a perfect summer eating spot, and their large pizza and free cheesy bread order is an insane amount of food, but somehow I eat it all. Great selection of COLD beer from chilled glasses. Demading a manager fell on deaf ears with this pos watress Bella... my rage grew from there. That little twit needs to sit home jobless. And ownership should take note that i will likely never return. The food was mrs pauls quality....if that.. and very much overpriced. To their credit... mgt took care of $40+ tab. Also note i am a generous tipper typically 20 percent for even mediocre service and food. This time it was a big fat zero. We keep going back becuase we want to support local businesses and the beer selection on tap is usually pretty decent. The evening started with a 15 min wait for our server to take our drink order. Actually another server came over and apologized that we had been sitting so long with no one stopping. We seen our waitress a few times walk past us we found out when she finally came over to deliver our drinks. We had to get her to stop from leaving and take our food order. The food is okay, the service is just so lacking. The fish had partial sections that were not cooked all the way thru and the fries well cool. I have decided that pizza is the only way to go here for food....Our waitress, Ayla, she was so underwhelming. We had to get her to stop everytime we needed anything. Drink refills were terrible. In 1.5 hours, we were able to have 2 beers. I understand that service the challenging right now but maybe some training could help. She spoke so softly we couldn't hear her and had to ask her to repeat herself, she looked so uncorncered abt her customers. She never checked back unless we grabbed her, the only time she stopped at our table was after we asked for the bill, then we seen her several times. It was not busy either, there were only 6 tables being used and 4 servers. We'll go back sometime but only sit at the bar and have pizza. Just an unfortunate dining experience. My colleagues and I came here from out of town and sat on the top deck, which was nice. Our waitress was a nice young lady (Selene) who tried her best to be of great service. She was not overly knowledgeable about the beers or ciders on tap and spent a great deal of time apologizing for much of what we experienced. They seemed to be out of various menu items. They wouldn't substitute out the coleslaw for anything else on the menu. I ordered the soup of the day and they brought me a different soup, which I sent back and was never brought what I ordered. My colleague ordered a rare burger, which came medium. My other colleague ordered the shrimp appetizer and asked for one of their sauces, but was brought the standard cocktail sauce. The Perch was fine, but nothing special and the meal did not come with everything listed on the menu. My colleagues and I will find other places in Lansing to try...... read more

We have lived here for 4 years in the neighborhood adjacent to the restaurant. About 2.5 to 3 of those years, we frequented this place AT LEAST once weekly for the great beer selection, good food, casual atmosphere, quick service, and nice staff. However, we barely go there anymore because it seems to have steadily decreased in quality over the last few years. The service is slow. The food isn't as good. The final straw was the removal of a choice of grilled chicken for the sandwiches, if you don't want a burger. We don't and I don't want a fried chicken sandwich either. One of the local watering holes that is decent during the winter, but very good during the late spring, summer, and early fall. They open up the big garage door-style windows and you get the smells and sounds of the Lake Lansing park. It's a little piece of heaven. Everything about our meal, from the service to the menu to the food and drinks, was some of the worst we've ever had. I was really routing for them, but the service was awful, and the food tasted like it was from a microwave. We only ordered two items and both orders were wrong. It took forever to even get drinks and place was dirty to point of being a little concerning. We both did the all you can eat cod special and the cod was cooked well the batter didn't have much flavor the fries were cold soggy and didn't seem to be fully cooked. The tarter sauce was basically just mayo. For a place called blue gill grill expected a bit more from the fish even being that it was just beer battered cod. Everything was just bland. Our server didn't seem all that with it didn't really check up on us. Right after we placed our order she brought someone else food and put it down on our table. Terrible. Terrible food and service. My 10 year old son didn't want anything from the kid's menu. He ordered the potato skins appetizer and a water. They tried to charge us $1.50 for his water!! They said because they put it in a styrofoam cup. The rest of us all ordered water too (and weren't charged). The server said because he didn't order from the kid's menu we had to pay $1.50 for his water bc of the styrofoam cup?!?!? He is 10. He can drink from an adult cup (why did she bring a styrofoam cup?). His younger cousin (who was with us) ordered off the adult menu too, and got a root beer in a glass bottle. Our server never came back to refill water or check on us. The only part of my fried clam basket I ate (after a few bites) was the coleslaw and 1 hush puppy. It was so bad. The clams were tough and chewy. The fries were cold and stale. My 2 sons and my husband's food was ok enough for them to eat. We only asked for the $1.50 for my son's water be removed from the $53 bill. It took speaking to a manager to have that $1.50 taken off!! My cousin and his family (who were with us) had even more issues. Definitely not going back anytime soon. Sad, since we like to support Haslett area businesses. We were in on a Saturday night, so we expected to have a little slower service. It did take some time to get greeted, and a big party that came in after us was given menus first. Luckily our server made up for that. He was super polite, had great recommendations and apologized for the wait. The food was delicious. Grouper is my favorite, but I am used to Florida quality grouper. Let me tell you, they did not disappoint. My fiancé got the California Chicken Sandwich, that was also delicious. Honestly the food is so bad that any price they charge is over priced. Expect to wait at least 45 minutes on a slow night. Wait staff is beyond incompetent and they reek of alcahol, cigarette smoke and a half gallon of perfume to cover up the marijuana smell. Don't come here for the food. Extensive menu with many seafood options, all fried. Burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads and various fried baskets. Definitely come here to drink and enjoy the ambiance. Close proximity to Lake Lansing and the county park. Nicely done outdoor area and roof top. Service was good and I would not hesitate to bring my family here. My husband and I have decided that this place is only worth going to in the summer and fall because of their new thirsty perch. The rooftop menu and atmosphere is a great place to meet for drinks and for live music. It's just something different in the Haslett area. However, the food downstairs truly is disappointing. When I order a Philly Cheese Steak Calzone, I don't expect it to be covered in marinara and tomato sauce. It tasted like a soggy pizza. The cheesey crab dip is good but that's about it. read more
