The whole menu is delicious and a huge variety. I have such a hard time deciding what to order when I go there. My go to when I stay Lanai. Hamburgers, tuna melt, chicken sandwich, patty burger, club sandwich, mahi burger - all ono and come on fresh baked breads. Nice variety of fresh baked pastries too. This place is great. I had the turkey sandwich and when they brought it out I thought, eh. But it was delicious. Toasted, thick cut, house made bread, carved turkey (I think, nit your usual lunch meat turkey), lettuce, tomato and mayo. It was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. Plus, it was only $6.00! One of our group had to he grilled mahi sandwich and said the fish was some of the best she's ever had. The other had a BLT and loved his too! Lunch for 2-$20.00! Unheard of! Cheeseburger and club sandwich were okay but service and attitude were bad. After waiting 25 minutes for our order and seeing that everyone who ordered before and after us had received their food, I inquired as to status. The younger man who took my order said "Sorry you can't wait for your food." We will be returning to Lanai in another month and will try to support the local dining establishments but never going back to Blue Ginger again. Service: No greeting as you walk in. If you don't know how the system works, that you order from the counter then find a seat, it's pretty uncomfortable. Fortunately it's not our first time. Food: Do NOT order the blueberry pancakes. They must use dried blueberries because the texture of them are hard and chewy. Who does that? I spit them out. Stick with the regular pancake as the pancake itself is good. Weird that we ordered omelets and the followup question is - rice, hashbrowns, or toast? We both said rice, but it was nice that it came with a slice of toast anyway, although I'm not sure what you'd get if you said 'toast' up front. Nothing special about the omelets. The main reason I am giving this only 3 stars is because of the extremely rude white dude behind the counter taking orders. The pleasant Hawaiian ladies were lovely and helpful but that guy was honestly rude and arrogant. Was very friendly to the locals but not others. Food was pretty good. Today was our last day in Lanai, and we stopped by for one more grilled cheese. Lol, I think I'm ridiculous, too. I mean, it's just grilled cheese. But for a pregnant woman craving something...it's SO MUCH MORE! Hubs got the chicken katsu this time. Too sweet for our taste, but he still swears by the fried chicken. Really, I wanted to thank the staff for such wonderful service. The son of the owner, Canoe was the best. He made my grilled cheese with over medium egg....and is my sandwich soulmate. Thank you! We also met a few gals, who of which only one I caught her name. Mailin (sorry, sp), thank you! There was also another girl who was working so hard though she's so late in her pregnancy. I give her mad props for that. There are some days it hurts to think about getting out of bed. This is a wonderful family run establishment, and I pray that when I return to Lanai, it's still here. Not too many options for food here but some solid ones! We stopped here for brunch right when we landed. We all ended up ordering the lanai omelette and most of us cleared our plates. The hash browns are not shredded potatoes like we expected but rather a single deep fried hash brown like the ones you get at McDonald's. The homemade bread is a nice touch. When you go in the back of the restaurant to use the restroom you get a glimpse into the bread baking process and it's adorable. It saddens me to say this, but this place isn't what it used to be. Instead of being warmly greeted, we were met with a stink haole attitude. The girl at the front didn't say "hello", all she wanted to know was what we wanted. Instead of smiling, she just glared at us. Back in the day, this establishment felt like a welcoming place. And now it sort of feels like any other McDonalds, Burger King, and/or Jack in the Box. However, they all have better customer service. The food used to be great here! One of the best, more reasonable places to eat on the island! They have a very good "healthy" menu and the proportions were generous. The staff was super nice and the food was fresh (at least tasting...which was interesting because the grocery store had very little freshness.) I enjoyed this little mom and pop shop and the baked goods smelled delicious! I had the grilled mahi mahi with salad (simple tossed iceberg with papaya dressing.) I'd venture to say that Blue Ginger's product is tasty Hawaiian diner food--if you're a raccoon. Yeah, it was that bad. I do not understand the overwhelmingly positive reviews of this place. The service was terrible. We were told the Loco Moco would take 15 minutes. We sat with our tongues hanging out for about 45. We could not even make it to the front to inquire as to the whereabouts of our food because it was so overcrowded the entire time we were there. Once the food arrived, we were so hungry we started shoveling the food down our mouths. We soon realized it was pretty disgusting. My husband pushed his loco moco away. I pushed my french toast away. The only thing we ate that OK was the banana pancake and really I only finished it because I was starving. Do not believe the positive reviews about this place. There aren't but a few choices for lunch in Lanai City. For a late lunch (after 1pm) it's even fewer. But anytime, Blue Ginger is a good choice. I wasn't expecting much from Blue Ginger Cafe after scrolling through the Yelp reviews, but my Sweetie said he liked it the last time he was here, so I went along with it. It's very casual inside, which I was glad for because I'd just finished running the route from Koele around Lana'i City a minute earlier and I was really sweaty and unpresentable. The first thing I noticed was the tray of pastries on the counter. I am normally not a dessert person, but I was eying the buttery, sugary ensemadas because they looked so soft and fluffy and fresh. I had to force myself to ignore them so I could look at the breakfast menu. My Sweetie and I both ordered the Lanai omelette filled with Portuguese sausage, bacon, mushroom, onion and cheese. While we were waiting, I must have been muttering "ensemada ensemada ensemada" to myself because he finally asked me if I wanted him to get me an ensemada. I tell you, those Jedi mind tricks really do work. ;-) The pastry was as delicious as it looked and by the time we were done devouring it, our omelettes arrived. Those omelettes were seriously tasty! I was so happy with every aspect of my breakfast: it was a good portion size, had great flavor, a generous amount of filling, and it wasn't too greasy. It's nearly impossible to visit Lana'i and avoid coming to Blue Ginger Cafe. It's a great place to get down with the locals and get a taste of Hawaii. We came here twice on our two day trip. It's got the most reliable hours and extensive menu. Everything they serve is large portions and hits the spot. Roast Pork: HUGE serving. Tons of gravy. Could have been a little juicier but still good. Bento: the fried chicken had a nice seasoned crust but the meat was a tad dry. The teri chicken was the best part-tasty and moist. Breakfast Burrito- delicious fried rice and the insides of the burrito were generous and ono! Turnovers- I mean how can you stand at the counter and not stare at the baked goods that are looking you right in your eye? Flaky. Buttery. Sweet. Amazing. The one thing I wish I knew was they don't really have breakfast hours. I could have ordered from the lunch menu for breakfast. Also, bring some cash. read more

This small cafe is one of the few eateries in town, given Lanai City is such as tiny city. We went there a few times for lunch, it was great. We got to have the most authentic taste of the local food. The food was very simple, yet very good. It's the typical Hawaiian styled food, say, a grilled/fried fish fillet, some simple veggie salad on the side, and some rice. This small cafe seems to attract tourists and locals alike. I suppose it's due to first, there aren't many restaurants on the island; second, they really have simple and honest food. It's a wonderful to sit outside of the cafe, having lunch while enjoying the nice weather in Hawaii. Right at that moment, I felt like life is simple yet relaxing and content. Blue Ginger is the place to go for lunch if you are at Lanai. It's a small hole in the wall restaurant, but has great food! The wait was a bit long but it was worth the wait. I had a club sandwich the best I have had in my life. They add lots of avocado no extra charge not sure if they make their bread there, at the restaurant but it's so good. Stopped by during our morning walk. I got an apple turnover. Couple of things: The staff, there were two girls manning the front, one who seemed friendlier than the other. Not really friendly, more like cordial - hurry up and make up your mind - friendly. Which is fine. The turnover, filling is like Comstock - type apple filling, and the crust, while good, had what seemed to be parchment paper stuck to it in places. Weird, I tried to keep chewing it and it wouldn't break down. Had to spit it out. It's been years since I've been here - don't know if I'll be back on the next visit, but anyone who has been to the isle knows that choices are limited. read more

The portions are large and the food is very tasty. The green salad was very fresh as well. Social distancing and masks are enforced within the restaurant and the patio. This was the only restaurant I tried in Lanai. It was pretty good, but the fried fish I ordered was rather greasy. The French fries were nothing to write home about and had no seasoning.
